Odin fails at "Custom Modem Binary", pulling my hair out here. - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I thought I'd relive a bit of nostalgia and I ordered a phone I used a lot back in 2012/2013, the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 (GT-I8160), on eBay.
It arrived, but it was already rooted and was definitely sporting some custom rom. Seemed a bit odd. So I searched through my computer backups and found an Official 4.1.2 Stock Firmware for the I8160. Cool.... I'll just flash that with Odin.
NOPE.
When Odin gets to flashing the modem.img it fails, and on the device screen there's red writing saying "Custom Modem Binary !!". Weird. I decided that maybe this phone was from another region so I downloaded another official rom but it came up with the same error. i have now tried over 10 different region roms, including one for the I8160P. All failed. You can see on the device it clearly says "GT-I8160", so I really don't get where I'm going wrong.
I tried using emergency firmware recovery in Kies but it doesn't even recognise the device. Or at least it doesn't show up on the list of devices requiring firmware recovery.
Does anyone know what the hell I'm doing wrong?? It's almost as if I'm flashing the wrong device model. I'm stumped.
(PS. The 13 counts of custom firmwares in the image are from all the different roms I've tried to revive the device)

[Q] Odin hanging..how long is too long?

Hey guys,
I just got my phone back from repair (broken power button) and I want to get back onto CM10. I went about my usual flashing business, flashing the CWM 5.0.27 ODIN tar, then I usually flash a CM ROM to install root and change my target from SGH-T989D to SGH-T989. That enables me to install GooManager and flash TWRP. Unfortunately, my phone was stuck at the CM splash screen for a good 10 minutes, after having installed sk8erwitskill's CWM Touch (latest version, 1/11/2013) so I tried a reflash and it didn't work. I then reflashed CWM 5.0.27 and flash from there, and it still got stuck at the splash screen. I then went back into Download Mode, launched ODIN, and proceeded to flash the stock Telus tar to begin from scratch.. This is where my issues lies. Usually the Tar will take a little while, but slowly the progress bar moves along. This time though, it isn't moving:

I know that you aren't supposed to pull the battery or unplug the phone during Odin flashes, but I don't think it's even doing anything anymore..
What are my options?
TIA!
Nevermind, I did the riskiest possible thing and I pulled the plug, and tried on another computer. Way too stressful!!
Mods, please delete, thanks!

Can i safely flash a custom rom on this?

I bought this phone as a used phone from a local market, as i love custom roms it'd be great if i can safely flash it on this device? I'm confused because i know Htc is the most complicated when it comes to rooting. Im Currently rooted with twrp installed on this phone. Just wanted to know if the supercid and everything is on point for me to flash any custom rom? Also im not interested in stock roms and the im also worried about losing cellular signals. Because i dont really know of this device was factory sim unlocked or not. Thanks in advance.

Update: i safely managed to flash Insert Coin nougat custom rom on this device. I took the chances and got successful.
Gonna leave the thread in case somebody else gets in the same situation.
Please read the ReadMe thread for finding out why you shouldn't use the SCID on this phone and why you need to be careful with flashing RUUs (hint: you own a CDMA device). In addition, I'd recommend you getting back to a stock state and installing all available OTAs before you flash a custom rom. The needed guides and files should be available in the ReadMe thread, as well.

s9+ doesnt want to update firmware/software

Greeting
I recently bought a phone from a second hand website a galaxy s9+ after confirming the IMEI that it is authentic I still am unable to update the software or firmware on the phone using the about phone menu.
I get the "registering device-process failed" error in the software update menu.I am currently residing in Namibia Africa but the phone is a SM-G965U American version. Also in the about phone section it shows United Arab Emirates TRA ID, how can I work around this to get the phone updated? it is still on android 8.0 on September 2018 security update.
thanks for the help.

Flash with Odin

Flash with Odin
Click to collapse
this is the first post the OP ever put up, might need some more guidance with odin
but you are correct IMO
OP go to sammobile.com/firmwares and get the files for the american carrier version your phone is for and flash them via Odin. The Odin process can look intimidating, but its completely doable and will likely fix your updating issue and also get the UAE stuff off the "about phone" section. Odin flashing is probably what got it there in the first place

Bricked Kernel
Hi, did you try something like custom ROMs, Magisk Modules, messed up with system files
Possibly that the kernel is dead
And if is not, your phone is COOCKED, its even OVER-COOCKED
And i little tip, try reboot in fastboot and try to get somehow your internal storage files

My phone got Hardbricked while trying to reinstall the stock ROM from MSM tools.

I got a T-Mobile 7T that I converted to Global with the help of several guides in here, and everything was working ok. I rooted and flashed a custom kernel to OOS and was happy, but I wanted to try the new Android 11 update, but I wasn't sure if uninstalling Magisk and flashing the stock boot image would it be enough to flash the new update without issues, so I decided to flash the stock global ROM as clean as possible, and I used the MSM tools of the latest version: 10.0.16.HD65AA.
At the moment of putting the phone onto EDL mode and preparing to flash the stock ROM, I clicked start as my phone got recognized, but I ran into an error while flashing, which was saying something like "tgr id error" or something like that.
The phone turned off and bricked, I have no access to fastboot nor EDL, and the worst part is that now my PC doesn't recognize the phone now when I plug it in, so now I can't use othe MSM tool and try to flash stock again.

Try to reinstall qualcomm usb 9008 drivers or another PC or another usb cable/port
