Boost Mobile s9 unlock - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

So I'm wanting to switch to a different carrier from boost Mobile but according to boost Mobile's unlock rules I've got to have my phone activated on my account for 1 fill year which is February of next year. Does anyone know of a way around this without waiting till next year to unlock my phone which is the Samsung Galaxy s9 sm-g960u or the Galaxy s8 sold by boost? Any help would be greatly appreciated

if its carrier locked, you could try flashing the g960u1 firmware from sammobile.com/firmwares via odin and see if that works, but if it doesnt, then youll have to go to a paid service. Ive personally used idoneapps several times on some S5s back in the day, and the devs are always quick to answer questions if you run into issues

on what carrier you are planing to use it? You cannot use sprint Galaxy note 4 on domestic GSM carriers like AT&T, T-mobile and their MVNOs (Straighttalk , etc). The phone can be unlocked for international GSM use (voice and 3G only, not LTE). Internationla unlock can be done officially through Sprint or unofficially via app in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...print-samsung-unlocker-unlock-sprint-t2928250
My question is how did you come across a Sprint Note 4? Did you not do your homework before acquiring the Sprint Note 4? Maybe you somehow got the phone for free? Why would somebody actually pay for a nice phone (released only a month or so ago) without knowing if it will work on a completely different network/carrier... then turn around and look for help on how to activate it on a GSM carrier? This makes no sense to me.
Im curious too.
Can a Sprint phone be unlocked and set up for use on ANY other carrier in the USA,
ie: Verizon?
No no no

I am pretty sure that if the phone had a clean ESN that you can activate it on Ting Mobile. I have also saw a thread where someone had flashed a T-Mobile Rom to the Sprint note 4 but they where not getting LTE of course I'm sure in time someone will come out with something stable.

Off topic here.
I came up for upgrade in June. I was gonna go Nexus 5 and then the Nexus 6 rumors started to fly. So I waited and along came the Note 4. After much research I ended up with arguably the best phone on the planet. Imo it is.
Unlock Code
I am in Canada, got this as xmas gift from my father in law
You can root and try Galaxy Tools 4 root users https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.idone.galaxymenu
Or you can use this app from the S5 thread you don't need root with this app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2928250
Hope this helps a little

1. No
2. Customers can switch devices by calling on a different phone to CS or going into store and switch devices, no unlocking necessary.
3. Just switch Sim cards and edit and tweak where necessary or pay someone if you dont know how.
4. Correct, but no unlocking necessary.
5. That depends on the person.
Thank you for your answers

Yes yes yes it can be used with other carriers in the USA. Are people forgetting about flashing of modems and firmware. What decade are we in 1960? Our maybe 1950 when phone were still two way radios. Remember sprint can't stop everything Samsung does in making their phone. Ask the right questions to right people get right answer. If someone in XDA hasn't figured it out yet just wait & keep on looking. XDA is also not the only place to look for answers to everything Samsung, sometimes Samsung is were to look or Samsung blogs. All I hear is everyone that talks about Samsung first thing everyone says is it CAN'T be done. When are the tech, crackers, & hackers of this world going to stop saying everything is impossible & realize we are the ones that make everything possible. If we are going to do that why do we become techs or crackers or hackers or even developers in the every first place?.... LET'S STOP PUTTING LIMITS ON OU OURSELVES & SHOW SPRING WHAT WE CAN DO! Sprint is not GODZ. We created what sprint & Every carrier in the world uses to try to put limitations one everyone with. Are we going to let the carriers use or phones against us or are we going to use them the way the phone manufactures wanted the phones to be used ( without restrictions of the carriers of the world.)
after unlocking your sprint device you can only use it with carriers outside the USA. If you are planning to use it with local sim cards after unlocking like at&t and t-mobile (gsm) then you cannot.

Umm if its not under payments u can
Yep once the phone is paid for per new laws that went active in Feb or March if you ask the carrier to domestic unlock your phone they are required to do it by law. Some models this will not be possible but the note 4 should. I think the carriers have a grace period to make this available. Not sure how long. I could quote the legislation but Id have to search for it.

B to the S. If you can unlock a 720t a note 4 can be unlocked!! Period!! It picks up signal just no antenna for that signal because the phone antenna is tuned in the wrong station or radius degree. I think if the people who can unlock 720t s can try the same methods with busy box or Verizon modems. Like guy said earlier " Si se puede"!! It can be done!! Just need to tweak frequency angles and remove face security options a little.
By law you can have it unlocked for a limited time, but that will not make the LTE radio magically work on your carriers band unless they support the same band. Or unless you know someone who can JTAG flash the radio to another carrier as well you will not be able to use the LTE/DATA band on a carrier that does not support the frequency. This is nothing something that can be done over USB or by a new kernel. This will have to be done with JTAG and by someone who has access to the various carriers radio firmware which is tightly guarded. So basically you will be using a Note 4 on 3G only. Might as well just sign up with SPRINT then, you will get the same service speed.

[Q] OE1 Update / Odin Back

So I have read alot about how to downgrade from 5.0.X to lower versions of android to4.4.2 and 4.4.4 just isnt possible. Well, I made it happen tonight. It took 3 days to figure it out and I will gladly share how i accomplished this, and upload all the files. I didnt mess with the boot loader because frankly, I dont know how. Everything was done through ODIN as well.
But I am in need of help/ questions answered first.
My phone is 100% paid off, and I am 100% paid in full with sprint so it was my understanding as of FEB of this year upon request they HAD to SIM unlock my phone per my request... So here are my questions
1 - If i flash AT&T roms, or any other carrier ROM over to my sprint note 4, will my phone still function properly? And if it will, does that give me a better shot at getting the phone away from INVALID SIM error and putting in my MSL code.
2- is it really NOT possible to domestic unlock a phone from sprint with android L? if not, why would sprint tell me they could domestic unlock my phone?
3- I have been given my MSL, been told by sprint my phone is unlocked, and cannot get a prompt to enter the MSL so I can keep my note4 when i move to a new carrier. All I keep seeing when i put the SIM card into my note 4 is "INVALID SIM" , I have seen the SSU unlock APK and tried to use it but the lowest version of android i can find is 4.4.4 for the note 4, and SSU states it only works on 4.4.2 and lower.
Can anyone help me get this stupid thing domestic unlocked?
OK here is the issue if I understand correctly.
You want to unlock your phone Sprint has provided you the unlock code.....
Since the Phone was shipped with 4.42 or 4.44 depending when you go it ........ that means you will need to be in that Android version for it to work not running lollipop(5.x)..... Then :
Switch off your Galaxy Note 4.
Take out its battery.
Pull the Sprint SIM card out of the slot.
Insert a new SIM from a different wireless carrier in the SIM slot.
Place the battery back in the mobile.
Power on the phone.
When prompted, type the unlock code that you received from Sprint.
It will complete and you are done

Sprint's policy for DSU (Domestic SIM unlock) is phones *launched* after Feb 2015 will be eligible. Unfortunately, as the Note 4 launched last year, it is not eligible for DSU. The MSL code allows you to edit the APNs to go to another CDMA carrier., but will not unlock the SIM slot for domestic use.
Sorry.
Sprint will unlock a device from Sprint's network under the following circumstances:
Any associated Service Agreement, Installment Billing Agreement, or Lease Agreement has been fulfilled including payment in full of any applicable early termination fees or end-of-lease purchase options
The associated account is in good standing
The device has not been reported as lost or stolen, associated with fraudulent activity, or otherwise flagged as ineligible to be unlocked
Generally, if you have a device that was launched prior to February 2015 and it is capable of being unlocked, Sprint will provide a bill notification and/or text message when you are eligible to have your device unlocked. The bill notification will direct you to Sprint Customer Care who can assist in efforts to unlock your device.
For domestic SIM unlockable ("DSU") devices launched after February 2015, Sprint will automatically unlock the device when it becomes eligible.
For inactive devices, customers must contact Sprint Customer Care to request that their DSU-capable device be unlocked and may have to take steps to perform an over-the-air update to ensure the unlock programming has been relayed to the device.
The note 4 is capable of being unlocked. Sprints policy is they AUTOMATICALLY unlock them if it was launched after FEB 2015.
Now, can you tell us how to Odin backwards from OE1?
thanks
Can't I'd back wait til oe3 is out I made the mistake and paid the price

Sorry to burst your bubble but you're wrong. Note 4 is clearly on their list of phones they will give you the MSL or the ISU (International SIM unlock), but not DSU. Read for yourself: http://www.sprint.com/legal/unlocking_policy.html
Moving on in 3 - 2 - 1.....
Just swap for tmobile or Verizon note 4 ..post an ad. Meet at the store. Verizon is unlocked out of box. It will work on all but sprint. Tmobile will work and I believe Att with Sim unlock but don't quote me. Just an idea.

I want to pre-order samsung galaxy s9 and s9 plus for me and for my son. the both phones will be from t-mobile and I have a question. can I unlock them the same day for at&t ? we have a great at&t plan with cheap family calls so I want to use at&t instead t-mobile. It depends on the plan you get from T-Mobile. There is are two things you need to do before trying to unlock it. Once you get your phone check the following:
1. Check your T-Mobile folders if there is the Device Unlock App installed (by default it should be installed on your phone).
2. Check your phone's IMEI in the T-Mobile database by using their service here: https://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx
If your phones have the app and are not blocked it means that they are eligible, so you should be able to unlock them and even use a service like here: https://www.unlockunit.com/unlock-samsung-galaxy-s9-062472

As a policy, the device can be unlocked with the T-Mobile Device Unlock app 40 days after you activate the device for the first time and if the device is paid in full. To activate the device, the SIM card must be inserted into the phone and be active in the device for 72 hours for it to register in T-Mobile's system.
If the device is not paid in full or if you do not want to wait the full 40 days, you can pay for the device to be unlocked remotely through Android SIM Unlock or similar websites. http://www.androidsimunlock.com/phone-unlocking-service/tmobile-device-unlock-app-official-unlock/
Just make sure you're choosing the Device Unlock service since a standard SIM unlock service will not work since you are not able to insert a SIM unlock code into the phone.

Same.
What is the proper procedure to unlock an att s9 to use with another carrier?
The process is basically the same as any other smartphone. Buy an unlock code (this should work for you http://www.androidsimunlock.com/unlock-phone/samsung/galaxy-s9/), insert a SIM card from another service provider, this will prompt the SIM unlock screen, enter the code your purchased and the phone will be unlocked.
wait for few days. some developer will develop customer rome for samsung galaxy s9 then root your mobile and flash it and you mobile will be unlocked. s8 custom rom are available.
SamKey.Info supported directly unlock via usb cable !

T-Mobile S9+
So I purchased this phone from T-Mobile, and tried to switch to sprint. I had it unlocked but they still couldn't pry the phone. It seemed to have only unlocked it to AT&T. Has anyone else home through this or know how to fix this issue?
You can get any S9 or S9+ variant unlocked through Ebay including Sprint:
https://m.ebay.com/itm/SPRINT-SAMSU...?_trksid=p3984.m1561.l2649&_mwBanner=1&_rdt=1
Also can do Bad IMEI devices also. Look through items for other carriers. 100%guarantee.

If your buy your Samsung galaxy S9 or S9 plus from t-mobile and want to use at&t after unlocking, then you have to use the t-mobile device unlock app to unlock your phone. This is the only option to unlock your t-mobile Samsung S9 or S9+. Only phones purchased from other than t-mobile or metropcs usa can be unlocked using unlock code.
You need open the t-mobile device unlock app and select the permanent unlock option to proceed. you will get unlock successful message and it is unlocked. if you are getting the message "Unlock Failed: This mobile wireless device is not eligible for unlock. For Device Unlock eligibility details, please go online or contact Customer Care." then you have to submit your request for unlocking to any third party unlocking service.
You can can use the below links to submit your request to unlock your Samsung galaxy S9 or S9+ through t-mobile device unlock app
unlock samsung galaxy s9
unlock samsung galaxu s9+

You can actually just go research any of this in the Galaxy S8, Note 8, Galaxy S9, Note 9, or Galaxy S10 forums. They all work the same way.
Same hardware across each of the variants, but the software and the carrier will determine which features work. If you're on ATT and you want WiFi calling and VoLTE, you'll need to buy an ATT device. They check your IMEI and if it isn't on their whitelist, those features won't work, even if you flash the ATT firmware.
All the other carriers you can just flash their carrier firmware.
T-Mobile is the easiest. The only thing that won't work on TMO with unlocked firmware is video calling and RCS texting. WiFi calling and VoLTE work right out of the box.
That is what i figured searched the forums a bit but needed something concise appreciate the info!!

So right now ATT wifi calling doesn't work with Note 10 Plus but it does work for S10 Plus (and previous models). I am pretty sure this is because the Note 10 is still very new and their system needs some update. I will wait a couple weeks and see what happens.

I would use it, but I use a Google Voice number as my primary number. We used to do Hangouts video calls all the time, but not so much anymore. I guess the romance is dead.
If you flash carrier firmware to the unlocked phone, don't you basically just end up with a carrier phone? If the answer is yes, then what's the point of buying the unlocked phone?

So interestingly, there's another thread and people who are flashing ATT firmware to the unlocked version can no longer get WFC to work. They said it works for a few minutes if they give ATT an old IMEI number, but the system will automatically update to the new IMEI and WFC will no longer work. Read page four of the thread to see what I'm talking about.

If you flash carrier firmware to the unlocked phone, don't you basically just end up with a carrier phone? If the answer is yes, then what's the point of buying the unlocked phone?

There's a few reasons:
1. This year the Note 9 is worth $600 towards an unlocked model, but only $300 towards carrier models.
2. The U1 models generally maintain their value a little better than the carrier branded models. Even though it's the same exact device, that little "1" makes a difference for some reason.
3. It's factory unlocked. T-Mo, Sprint, ATT, and now Verizon all come carrier locked. Verizon stays locked for 60 days then automatically unlocks. T-Mo you have to pay it off, or pay cash up front, then wait 40 days with it active on your account before it can be unlocked. ATT again has to be paid off or paid in full up front and then you have to request an unkock and wait for the code. I believe Sprint automatically unlocks it once it's paid off.
4. I've heard conflicting stories, but at least in the past, Sprint was weird about their BYOD program. You could only bring devices with whitelisted IMEIs. That was Sprint devices and factory unlocked devices. If you just got your ATT Galaxy S8+ unlocked and brought it to Sprint, it wouldn't activate, even though it was the same exact device hardwarewise. The IMEI wasn't in their database. So the Unlocked version is more flexible.
5. That ugly ATT box. For some reason ATT will often take the phone out of the nice Samsung box and throw it in a cheap ATT box. See the USA Pre-order thread on here. There's already people complaining about that box. And I'm a packaging guy.
So you might as well get the device that's cheaper up front and holds it's value the best and is the most flexible carrier wise. If you want carrier features and firmware, you can still have them, and no worries ever about a SIM lock. Well except with ATT apparently. If you need ATT WiFi calling and VoLTE, you may be stuck getting the ATT model, from what I'm reading.
Now that said, if you don't have a trade in device, and your carrier is offering a better deal on their model...then by all means get that one.
Resurrecting and old thread rather than starting a new one.
I'm on T-Mobile and looking at either an unlocked Note 10+ which is $200 off right now from Samsung and Amazon or the Note 10+ 5G from T-Mobile. I know this is a bit of an apples to oranges thing, but what I'm wondering about is data roaming. I've heard, but have not been able to confirm is that an unlocked model will not data roam on partner networks, while a T-Mobile version will data roam. I do know that my current phone, an unlocked Essential PH-1 does not data roam, but is this true for all factory unlocked vs. carrier phones? Or at least T-Mobile phones?

T-Mobile customer here. I had an unlocked S7 Edge that would roam just fine on partner networks, in the US and internationally. Haven't had the opportunity to test roaming yet with my brand new unlocked Note 10+ but I suspect my results would be the same as with my S7 Edge.

Sprint Note 10+ Unlocking Question

Please forgive me if this question has been asked and answered before. I was able to do this years ago with an older phone but I haven't been keeping up with the tech for several years.
I have a Sprint Note 10+ on contract. I want to switch my service to Verizon as the coverage is much better in my area. Sprint will not unlock my phone until it is paid off. Would it be possible to root the phone and flash a Verizon firmware or software to it and have it work with the new Verizon sim cards that would come in the mail in a few days? Also, if it isn't too much to ask, if it is possible could you please link the software that would be required to do this? Last phone I tried to flash was over 6 years ago and I bricked the phone.
Thank you in advance,
Edit: Typos
hi no you cant because vzw is cdma and cant flash because yours is n976v and sprint variant is n975u

Flashing a Verizon ROM won't work because the phone itself is locked. Verizon will pay up to $650 to pay off your phone from another carrier. You will have to pay the balance.

Verizon shuddered its CDMA network. It's no longer activating CDMA phones for new lines.
