Hi,
My girlfriends Nexus 5X is constantly getting a message saying she is running out of space on her phone. There is not many apps installed, and it seems that WhatsApp videos are taking up a lot of space.
However, I am looking for a custom ROM (currently on stock) which I can flash that will give her more space for apps and photos etc.
Can anyone recommend one? Preferably small and stable!
In the meantime she'll keep clearing WhatsApp videos.
Thanks.
@eoinzy: AOSiP or GroundZero, both Pie. No or minimal GApps. My system (no GApps) needs 8GB with pretty much unused space on system partition
The appropriate ROM for her Nexus is AOSiP (without GApps). But if you need "Play Services" (and the official Google Play Store) I recommend you flashing "pico" GApps from opengapps.org.

My MyTouch Slide updated to the most recent firmware provided by Tmobile.
After the update, I'm not able to install more than 3 apps before I get a notification of low memory, and I have to uninstall one of the apps.
I've tried to use the App2SD that is within the Firmware, but that doesnt seem to help at all. If I install 3 apps, move them to the SD I still get the same Error Notifications.
Is this standard after the most recent update?
3 apps I have installed: Facebook, GOOGLE+, Google Voice.
Nothing else will install
Unfortunately yes, you need to be rooted to free up space and memory.

I recommend using SalsaSlide (from the development section), but you should know that Bluetooth doesn't work yet.
AOSP roms give the most internal storage usually between 140 - 142 mb
Dalvik cache will use almost all of the internal space.
Root and move it to Extend and you're set
sent from my MT3GS running CM7 nightly
1) Root
2) Install CyanogenMod 7 a.k.a CM 7
4) Install Wi-Fi Fix or GPS fix if needed
3) Use ClockworkMod Recovery to make an EXT Partition at 512 mb (largest size you can make from within the ClockworkMod App)
4) Use a free app from the android market "S2E" to move apps and dalvich cache to EXT Partition
Hi,
I'm fairly new to all this "rooting" and "flashing" but I managed to HBOOT unlock and root my Wildfire S (GSM) and now I'm trying to find a stable ROM version.
Currently my phone has some pre-installed garbage from Vodafone like:
360 My Web
360 Shop
FaceBook
FaceBook for HTC Sense
Gmail
Google Maps
Music Shop
Peep
Qype
Since my phone is constantly full I decided to root my phone and install a custom or stock ROM. But my problem is I am not very familiar with all these different kinds of ROMs. I have done some research and I've come across the following ROMs:
Sense 2.1
CyanogenMod 7 (CM7.2 / CM7 NIGHTLY 2013)
CyanogenMod 9
CyanogenMod 10
CyanogenMod 10.1
I know there are plenty of threads with similar questions but they seem to be outdated to me and therefore I'd like to have some up-to-date info about this. I'm looking for a ROM with the least amount of bugs and possibly a little improved battery life. Currently thinking about Sense 2.1 or CyanogenMod 7.2 or CM7 Nightly 2013. I just want to install a clean ROM with Google Play and a few apps.
Could anyone help me? Thanks!
Hello. I flashed cm 10.1 to my gf's phone, but she seems not to be satisfited. I checked it than and it was pretty nice, some features might take a while but everything works fine after few seconds. Don't have much time for testing other roms, but as soon as possible ill let you know about progress. I hope my English is fine, apologizes otherwise
Sent with my One S C2 Sense 5 using Taptalk
It sounds like you want CM7.2.
I have been testing different roms and all of them have some bug. I'm now down to two:
1. KitKat_CM7.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525765
It is the only ROM I could achieve 2-3 days of battery life. Everything works, with every few bugs. It is very fast. Exactly what you are looking for.
2. Marvellous CM10 Reloaded http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2481155
This is Android 4.1.2 so it has more features, the interface is more polished, more apps work. It is fast enough for everyday use.
With any of them, you'll need to flash a Int2ExtV2 script after installation to trick the phone to use SD card instead of internal memory. Flash ROM, flash script, reboot, flash gapps. If you flash the gapps in the same session, your home button may not work.

Thanks for your input dawnckr! I'm currently using mod version: CyanogenMod-7-20120717-UNOFFICIAL-marvel with kernel version: 2.6.35.13eoghan-cryptomilk-alquez-r1-g0bb9087-dirty and I like it except the battery life.
Thanks for the tip on using the SD card as main storage, I've read some articles about it and yes I'm having the same lack of storage . I think I will try out cm7.2 KitKat you were talking about and install everything in the right order.
Thanks again!
What apps would you recommend installing on my SD card? I have read that some apps might cause problems when installed in locations other than the internal memory.
The following apps I use regularly:
Google authenticator
Keypass
Youtube
Whatsapp
Gapps
Browser
Dropbox
Maybe some games when I have some storage left
Is it safe to say that all apps will work without any problems when installed on the SD card? I know the apps won't work when the phone is connected to the computer because the SD card will be used by the computer at that moment.

If you use CronMod-INT2EXTV+ , the phone will think it has very large internal memory. I had mine set to 2GB of internal storage. All apps will work. The down side is that you can't swap cards in and out - but if you use one fast and large card, you just leave it in the phone forever.
TO use Int2Ext, you need to format the card to two partitions 1) FAT32 2) Ext2 . You can do that from clockworkmode recovery or on a PC (microsd with adaptor plugged into the SD card slot). Download the script at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124 Flash the script from recovery (you'll need a fresh installation of your ROM).
so I was trying to install a rom (broken) on my gnex...I have twrp...the rom installed but gapps keep failing...I get an error message saying the device requires 37xxx of space and I have 35xxx of space...I deleted my 5 gigs of music and still get the same error...so what am I doing wrong?
I tried a smaller version of gapps and it worked but somewhere in there, I was unable to get google now to work...any ideas?
thanks

PA Gapps FAQ #3 My install of Google Stock (or Full Modular) GApps failed with the message 'Insufficient storage space available in System partition'. What does this mean?
It has nothing to do with your music, that's on a different partition. It needs space in the system partition. If you are using something like F2FS then you have less space in system and will have to use a smaller gapps package. Also its a GNex, so the "older device" portion of the FAQ comes into play as well.
I would use PA Gapps in either Mini or Micro flavors, they have Google Now included. They released an updated package today, I would check to see if they helps. If you are switching Gapps please see #6 in the FAQ as well. I had issues too before I realized I had to wipe System and reflash my ROM when switching to different gapps.

Hi.
At first, I don't have a clue if it is a good place in forum to write about this. But let's stat.
I have Paranoid for my Galaxy S Plus i9001. I don't have any of google things on phone. I used official Google items from internet, it stopping work. So i decided to install Gapps again. Again because i've tried it. It is always the same. I mean that i can't install any of GAPPS from XDA, because i haven't got space. In TWRP opinion of course. Here's the photo . I've got SD card with 10GB free space and something about 5GB free in device storage.
How to do it?
Thanks for replies.

Weird, twrp is saying you only have 4kb left... Can you give me a picture of your storage? (in settings ---> storage) Have you ever backup/install a rom with twrp before?
As explained in your error message in the TWRP window, your system partition has only 4kb left, so you won’t be able to flash any app there. In your current partition configuration, you will need to install all google applications from Google Play. This is further explained by TKruzze in question 2 of this FAQ:

Hey guys,
The default Chinese ROM does not come with WebView & if you tried to add a Google account with opengapps the whole thing would crash so you couldn't get very far. I thought Nubia was being deliberately difficult with getting Google onto the stock ROM but it turns out if you installed Google Stock it would work fine but wipe out a lot of the Nubia apps (Messaging, phone etc) and I rely on the messaging since I'm in China and it formats messages quite nicely if it recognizes them.
The reason Google Stock would work is because googlewebview was installed by default, whereas in anything below (pico, micro, mini etc) it wasn't. The solution was simple, take the micro gapps and ensure webviewgoogle and chrome are installed, so I've modified the installer script slightly and added the two apps to the 'must install with micro' list and also added the apps into the Core and GApps directories.
Maybe not too useful to you guys, especially those within the Google ecosystem, but all I needed was Google Play since it's mostly blocked here unless I use a VPN anyway. Having more Google Apps just causes more pain than it's worth.
Here's the first package, Micro Gapps with Chrome & Webview: https://mega.nz/#!nD5FRABB!fn2eduFXkHXk9LhL7mMwSOhIEDoXU14EBkkoexDm7ys
I will add an even smaller package (pico) later with the required mofications to get running under stock China.
Note this has been tested on 4.30 and 4.34, it should work on ROMs below if they're on Android 7.1.1
It will not work on the beta (开发板) as it's on 8.1
How to install?
Thank you for your reply!
Is this the full amount of GAPPS?
Install the same way you would install opengapps (install TWRP, root with TWRP, boot into phone, reboot into recovery, install the opengapps package above)
It's just micro with Chrome and Webview, the stock gapps from opengapps works without any modification!
Oh nice, good work! Thank you.
Does it still stuck sometimes on "downloading"?
Thanks for contributing. I actually want the contact and calendar sync to work. I ended up using opengapps full and it works. I don't need webview for the playstore but for some other apps. I ended up copying calendar provider and webview to /system/priv-app and everything seems to work except WhatsApp recognizing drive. It may need to be copied there too, the source is the less of options to set permission. Hope this helps.
