As per aliexpress sellers they say chinnese version is sold with Google play installed and can't update.

I suggest that for the normal user, who wants notifications, no bloatware and a fully working global rom you should only get the global variant (EVR-L29) and not any chinese variant (EVR-AL00 / EVR-TL00)
Google pay / nfc only work on global variant and some report it doesnt work on the special rom for unlocked chinses variants
I have EVR-L29 and except touch issues, I dont have any problem whats so ever, google pay , nfc works and notfications are getting through
I bought my phone from a localized store for 830$
Buy AL00 and hunt the code for clouding. No problem with GPay, everything works as it should.
Wysłane z mojego EVR-AL00 przy użyciu Tapatalka
People keep chiming in and saying NFC/ GPay no problem BUT most people don't say their location. Maybe in some countries with some banks it works. Google apps are fine.
In USA, GPay does NOT work on the Chinese AL00 Mate 20 X. I tried many days to get it to work. Major banks in USA BLOCKS it. I returned the phone and have the International version which works perfectly with GPay.

It's a no brainer!
If you ain't Chinese or you don't live in China! You should get the L29; the International version to save all your troubles with the Chinese version of phone as time goes on and that Google Playstore would list your phone as an "Uncertified device" among other possible issues!

Even so .... Why would you buy a Chinese version while there is a fully working's Global version without the needs of technical-know-how to go about the problems, patches, side-loadings stuffs and fixes and etc and not to mention about **Unlocked Bootloader by some ****y sellers..
**Many local financial / banking apps don't work on an Unlocked Bootloader phones as part of their security measures and the numbers are increasing!

For me, it's not much different. I never use Google pay. I just removed almost all the Chinese system apps with adb commands. Only Google maps history and Google back up is not working. 9.1 updated three months early than the global version. I believe Chinese version will get Android Q update first too.

I understand you points of being a technical-know-how on Chinese version of phone models. :good: I used the Chinese version of Xiaomi phones for years too!
For a normal buyer who are not technically savvy and wants a phone and Apps that work 100% out of the box. It will be a big problem if he or she bought the Chinese version!
Pretty sure there is a rom for the AL00 (Chinese version) that has working google pay, etc... It's in the rom section of this sub-forum.

Hello guys! I'm from India and I got my honor 7x yesterday from Amazon. I read this post and did some digging into it.
So far, I didn't receive any updates and it shows 12 sensors available in the "My Device" app
Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.anu.main.myandroid
The model no in settings -> about phone says "BND-AL10" (Chinese Version)
However if you go to the "My device" app, it shows the board number as "BND-L22" (Indian version)
So maybe we got the right model and the update is coming. Can a fellow Indian please confirm this?

I know there is international version can be bought in Hong Kong, with all assets against Chinese.
However, it is much easier for me to ro get Chinese... Maybe it will be also cheaper, but it is second story.
My question is if will be possible to install global fw in China phone?
Thanks
Short answer. Nope. At least not now.
O must see prices of both. Generally, China phones localisation is not so poor, with some work, one ca adopt is enough. I have now honor note 10, same work...
I hope it would be possible to unlock BL and root and de_chinise it.

So I live in China. I was just at the Huawei store an hour ago. And I had the same question; Can I eventually put the International rom on the Chinese version?
All I can say is that right now, the easiest way to do that is to buy the phone in Hong Kong for example.
But the problem is that they sell the 128Gb/6G RAM for almost 200 USD more than the price you get the Mate pro 8GB RAM/256 GB version in China..
I think I'll go with the Chinese version, waiting to switch the rom at some point.
PS: If installing the google suite is not possible by allowing apks of unknown source
I afraid this will never work...
but thankes. key is price difference. i will also go on al00
Not to mention the global version only comes in the blue color. I didn't like that.

Oh yeah?
So just to be clear,
- DL the .apk(s) for the google suite and allowing "unknown sources" from the mate 20 will make possible to have the google apps?
It seems too easy to be true, but maybe you're right, I have no idea.
I just want to make sure that I won't buy it to realize that this won't work.
Returning anything here in China is a real pain, even on the same day

Don't need to download the apk.
Go into app gallery
Change country to China
Search for Google playstore.
Click update and open playstore
The usual setup will start
Done.
You dont need to install google suite apk. Just install play apk from apk mirror. It worked with note 10. And working with mate20x from china. Google services are already baked on rom by default.

I've always thought that ROMs were interchangeable, as long as the hardware was the same.

Technically yes. However Huawei made it harder for cross region rom flashing by locking the bootloader and rom region detection.

This article from the Android (non) Authority says (way down at the bottom) that (maybe) the phone's bands are not the same ... yeah, great journalism I know - especially when at the top they say the Chinese version of the phone is the same except for the lack of the UD Fingerprint Scanner

Hi guys,
I will get very soon my first china handy - the Mate 20 X - 8 GB / 256 GB - china version.
Now I read that Saturn / Mediamarkt will bring the Mate 20 X to Germany. Therefore I expect that an international / European version is on the way.
Is it possible to flash the china version with this international one?
No idea til now.
wbr
Johannes
I know only the china version can be unlocked and just now I saw this news
https://9to5google.com/2018/11/15/google-android-pie-project-treble-expectations/
Highlighted text from Google
"Going forward, all devices launching with Android 9 Pie or later will be Treble-compliant and take full advantage of the Treble architecture to deliver faster upgrades. Thanks to Treble, we expect to see more devices from OEMs running Android 9 Pie at the end of 2018 as compared to the number of devices that were running Android Oreo at the end of 2017."
What this means is that, whether Huawei likes it or not, Pie is already treble ready and there's a good chance that we are able to flash aosp on the device.

I think it is as safe as can be. Just follow the instructions properly and you should be good. I just did that. I removed the browser and a few other apps such as Hivoice and Hiboard etc. I didn't remove everything chinese as many of them do no harm.
I currently have the mate 20 pro and it has the green screen issue. So... Sadly I'm sending it back, I was going to swap it for another though amazon advised me not to. They also refunded the accessories I purchased which supprised me. I now don't know whether to try to import a mate 20 X or settle for the 6t. I would be grateful if anyone with the 20x could help me decide and answer a few questions?
I haven't seen any threads about it. But has anyone had any issues with the screen?
I've read some people have had problems with the Chinese version, when looking at adverts how do I make sure the phone I'm buying is the international version? Most don't say they just give the model number.
Is there an 8gb/256 version of the international model? Does enyone have an ebay link for where I could get it sent to the UK?
Does anyone have any reasons why I shouldn't consider getting this phone?
Thanks for your help.
I don't have the phone (at least yet) but i'm following closely all threads because i'm very interested too and i never see anyone complaining about the gluegate, even a reviewer frankytech thinks its only targeting pro series because of the curved screen.
If you want to buy international version you need to check if the model is named EVR-L29, china model is AL00. There's no international model atm in 256/8GB variant. About sellers to the international, there's splendor, wonda, funkyhuawei, expansys and ebay. Probably more but i forgot.

Would you recommend the Chinese model?
Is it easy to add the play store? Are there any issues with Google services? e.g. Google pay? As I use that a lot.
I bought an xaomi tablet and that took a lot of effort to get Google app store and services working properly.
Also I was wondering does face unlock work OK on this phone? I know it doesn't have the 3d scanner.

I came from a OnePlus 6. Definitely get the 20 X if you like large screen phones. The X uses a Samsung AMOLED panel and is free of defects. I would buy the Global version if root isn't important to you. If it is then buy the Chinese version. I bought the Global version and have no issues with it. The 6gb/128 Global version is plenty fast. You won't see any difference between the 6gb and 8gb versions as far as speed or apps in memory goes, it's all pretty much a gimmick unless you're buying the 256gb/8gb version just for the storage size.

The storage was the main reason I ended up going for the Chinese version.
I'm worried about Google pay not working on Chinese phones but I'm hoping the rest will end up working OK.
Hopefully someone will work out how to rebrand it so I can have the best of both worlds.

Please let me know how it works out, the 20X is my next phone just trying to decide which one I want. The China version is like $200 cheaper than the International one or the same price for the 8 gig versus the 6gig international version.

I have the China 8/256 version. And although I was worried about getting it once I changed the language, keyboard, got Google play to work it's a great phone.. my wife is laughing at me saying it's too big but personally I love it. It's fast and smooth and the screen is amazing.
I've not tried Google pay yet. I was able to add my credit card but not my bank card strangely. I will try Google pay tomorrow and let you know.

So it's pretty much the same experience as a American phone?
Hi All,
Am in the confusion in selecting MATE 20X international / Chinese version?
Please help me.. am interested in getting 8gb 256gb version but it is Chinese version.. Am from India.. Don't know Chinese.. I saw in YouTube video people are showing many Chinese apps.. whether can we remove it?? Thanks in advance...
Regards,
Arularasu N
Get the International version.
The Chinese version will most likely end up frustrating you. The international version just works, no tinkering or rooting needed.

Looking for more ram and space for future proof, so thinking much..
I have 2 units Mate 20 X AL00 ... just use the ADB method to debloat all the bloatware apps... Honestly, i don't feel the need to get the International Version of this phone... All of my phones were Chinese version, since they update it much more faster ... also, i don't use any of my phone in other language rather than english... so basically, chinese version is what i have been buying...

I have also ordered the 8/256GB china version so I will be following this thread
I am interested in changing the stock launcher to nova prime and getting the Google apps and WhatsApp notifications working properly if possible
Most of the other stuff wouldn't really bother me but if I can debloat the chinese stuff that's even better!

Ordered from shopee to the Philippines
Should be delivered shortly
The global mate 20 pro just went on sale today and it's cheaper to buy locally with a warranty than the 20 X is to buy from China
I thought about cancelling but the mate 20 pro doesn't really appeal to me ( except waterproof + 40w charger aspect )
I prefer the 7.2" screen, capacitive fingerprint reader and 8/256 over 6/128 ,bigger battery and flat screen (don't like curved glass ) so I think there isn't anything else that can compete with the m20X right now and there may not be for awhile
I wish there was 8/256 EVR-L29

There might be for the M30X but I didn't want to wait that long and ordered the China 8/256 one
Get rid of the Huawei/Chinese crap and install Google equivalents and you will have a great phone regardless
If you're in China then get the Chinese version. However, if you're living anywhere else then get the international version.
You won't notice the difference.
You're welcome!
