Can't update to Android 9.0 - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

I just bought samsung s9 SM-G960U but can't it won't update to android 9.0 manually ! it says processing failed
I did some researches I found that it's carrier-related . Some solutions suggests that I use odin to update but I can't choose the right firmware !
In fact :
- when I try to check the csc using *#1234# it show g960usqu2are6 ( I think it's Verizon using google)
- when I log on into samsung website and enter my imei . The product info shows that my carrier type is Sprint
- when I check "about phone/service Provider SW " on my phone the first line contains TMB after G960U and the third line is TGY/TGY/TGY
I'm confused but I want to update my s9 to android 9.0 . Help me

get the firmware here
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s9/SM-G960U/VZW/download/G960USQU4CSC7/265795/
get the most recent version of Odin (i didnt source you a link for that)
open Odin on your computer
unzip the package and get your phone into download mode, connecting it to your computer. Allow drivers to install and when Odin recognizes your device by showing a random number in the port field. Then place the files in their corresponding spots in Odin paying attention to which CSC file you use as one factory resets the phone and the other simply applies the update. It is recommended to use the factory reset CSC when changing from different iterations of the Android OS. Press the start button, allow it to full run the firmware push. It will then automagically reboot (yes, automagically), and youre done.

I don't live in US or America , is it okay that I use verizon update ? is there any risk that the the phone would be locked or something like that ?

Once a phone is unlocked, it stays that way forever. Firmware has nothing to do with a phone's locked or unlock status.

Depends how it was unlocked, seen a few members flash new firmware and the phone is SIM locked again, these unlock companies must use some modification to the firmware rather than unlocking it properly

Good to know. Wasn't aware that a phone could be unlocked with firmware alone. I guess it's a temporary overlay or something that "fakes" being unlocked?

Yea must be something that emulates the unlock somehow but once reset or flashed it's gone, always seems to be people who have bought the phone second hand unlocked, it has worked fine with their sim until they reset or flash different firmware, then it's locked again

No network on device after firmware update

i havent tried this method, but i did stumble across this
Boot your Samsung Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus
Activate then access the USB debugging mode
Sync your Samsung Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9 Plus to your desktop PC
Download this: EFS Restorer Express
Access the application and then open the EFS-BACK.BAT file
Choose a method in order to recover the EFS via Odin

S9 Bootloader, CSC, VoLTE

hi
i used to have VoLTE on my unlocked samsung galaxy S9 (SM-G960FD)
i was on stock rom (G960FXXU1ARB3) when i had both VoLTE & VoWiFi , i had to reset my phone for some reason..... i said why not update and restart ? so i updated to G960FXXU2BRGA and i lost both VoLTE & VoWiFi
i tried downgrading to ARB3 but had no luck since the bootloader was updated.... so its not an option.
can anyone help me to get VoLTE back ? i really need it :crying: and i dont want to lose the warranty

Hi, you may download an app ''QuickShortcutMaker" on Playstore. After that open the app and search for "lte call". You may find Enhanced LTE Services under Mobile Networks. Select it and select try, now you may turn VOLTE on. Sorry for my broken english.

May I know your Original Country code(CSC). And, what is your currently active OMC(CSC)? You might use Phoneinfo app for checking the currently active CSC.

Firmware contains multiple CSC. And, if you flash the firmware via odin sometimes the phone boots with Random CSC. Hence, I strongly feel the device applied a default CSC other than Iran(THR).
Once more please confirm it using Phone Info app, you can find it on Play Store. Or else, check whether the good-old secret code *#272*imeino.1# works or not.
If nothing helps, go for a clean flash of the latest Iranian firmware by putting CSC(not Home-CSC) firmware file in CSC tab on Odin.

Someone know how?? I have never used Odin.
Here is a tutorial on the web for an older version: https://skipsoft.net/flashing-a-single-partition-i-e-system/
If the baseband version/ids/content in *#0011# isn't there, try
restarting the device?
changing firmware, preferably with a newer modem?
wiping data?
For installing firmware, there's odin. Use odin, the stock rom (official firmware), and samsung drivers, Insert the usb cable, switch off the device, hold power+volumedown+home(the button on the middle), grant its permission, select the stock rom in odin, start. New firmware might require odin 3.13.1. The error "failed: device _ binary _" means that the firmware is old, somewhere in the middle of the firmware version code is for example U5 or S5, if U6 or S6 is already on the device it won't install u5/s5.
To check if the device is blacklisted, the code is *#9900# > run cp based log > copy to sdcard. Select nothing else. It is available in the folder /sdcard/log/err/ , sdcard meaning internal storage or device storage or internal memory. Open LitmusLog....txt and scroll down, look for the part that says reject info list, look for Cause:6 (basically this device can't be used); Cause:3 (basically this device can't be used with this sim). It is also available in /sdcard/log/err/ss_log/*/cp_members.txt , but the reject cause is in hexadecimal, and resets after a reboot, compared to the other file that keeps reject causes until it's replaced or cleared in another menu. For more info contact your mobile network operator.

Sadly this not helped, the imei is blacklisted, and modem update not fixed it for me. :/ I contacted the network operator and because I'm not in contact with the person who sold me the phone, they can't tell me anything, because I don't have the rights. So I think the only way is the imei changing method, but I don't know if it's even possible or how.
Sorry if my English is bad, and thank you.

- it is illegal to change imei- if hat means anything to you, lol
- it is against Ebay's policy to sell phones with bad imei

I think in my country it's not illegal, but not quite sure.. And i didn't know this, the guy wrote it down in the ebay ad even, so it went through.
Thank you, I will look into it, but I think I will sell the phone as a 'working display part'.. Motherboards are not cheap.

Imei is locked to the device as far as I know. This is why a device can be blocked after being reported as stolen. If it is imei blocked then you should get a refund or make sure Ebay is involved if the seller refuses to.

Need Android Pie firmware details for Unlocked T-Mobile Samsung S9

Hi All,
I have Samsung S9 Unlocked T-mobile from US and currently in India. Currently i have Oreo Version.
As all know, it doesnt have VOLTE option enabled which is needed for my sim network for voice calls to go through.
Somewhere i read Pie update will have VOLTE option and hence i am trying to update to Pie update.
I downloaded G960USQS6CSGB firmware for T-mobile, but before upating firmware using Odin, i got doubt if it will stick to T Mobile after update. This will make my phone not usable in India.
I tried to check online, but couldnt get direct answer and hence posting in new thread.
Can someone help clarify if it will lock the mobile to T-Mobile or will the phone be still in unlocked state?
Also i see two CSC files in the firmware folder. CSC and HOME_CSC. Which one to use?
If I should update with some other firmware for being unlocked and yet to get PIE update, please point to required firmware name or links.
Also will updating to PIE update will have VOLTE option ? Kindly confirm.
Thanks in Advance.

csc will factory reset your phone, home_csc wont
volte wasnt removed from pie, so that shouldnt be an issue
the firmware version you posted has the 6th bootloader revision, im betting here is a 7th available for your phone, but the 6th version should be fine as well
as far as the unlocked state of the phone goes, it shouldnt re-lock, but im paranoid lol. Have you looked into the U1 versions of the phones firmware? Theyre inherently unlocked firmwares and dont have any of that irritating bloatware **** in them

if it has no financial obligation to any carrier and the phone locks to that carrier, then the carrier it locked to would be required to release it. I cant imagine how it would lock to t-mob tho
Factory unlocked phones stay unlocked, no matter what firmware you flash.
Carrier locked phones that were properly unlocked by the carrier (they provide the code to SIM unlock the phone) will stay unlocked, again, no matter what firmware you flash to it - as long as it's compatible. Flashing the wrong firmware may just brick the phone. But, at least it's still SIM unlocked.
Phones that had some kind of software hack installed to trick the phone into thinking it's unlocked will lose the unlock status when you flash a firmware that also wipes the phone. Then it will come back as carrier locked again, because the hack is gone.
That last case is the only case I know of that will "re-lock" a phone. I've never heard of a carrier unlocked phone spontaneously re-locking under any circumstance.
Hi,
Thanks for the details. I tried to flash G960U1UES6CSG4_G960U1OYM6CSG4_XAA firmware. But while loading AP file in ODIN, it gave some error. Couldnt understand what is the error as its in chinese.
Then i loaded G960USQS6CSGB_G960UOYN6CSGB_TMB firmware which i downloaded previously. This got loaded in ODIN without any issues. And i am able to flash to phone. On rebooting, saw that phone moved to Pie version.
But i couldnt find VOLTE option (Enhanced calling) option. Does anyone know which version will enable that option?
Or anyother way to enable that please.
Thanks in advance.

if your Odin error messages are in Chinese, youve obtained a modified version. Itll probably work, but youll get that Chinese stuff whenever it needs to tell you anything. I dont know which versions have volte tbh. Sorry man.

yeah, sort of. The CSC's on these things are weird. Im starting to believe that these new versions of android are just like windows ISOs where they have all the versions compressed into one file and it uses a directory file to tell the firmware which version to install. Im sure a code writing dev can confirm or deny this thought, but at this point its merely a weak theory

CSC Change is still possible?

Hey Guys,
Just wanted to check whether any working methods are around to change the CSC of a Note 10+
Couldn't find any guides apart from the ones which are in Note 9 Sections.
Any support on this is much appreciated!

Im also looking for a solution for this. SamKey's paid service is apparently supporting this but im unsure of the method their software uses and its a paid service. Users in Australia (like me) are having issues with RCS services through Telstra (TEL) because the Open Variant bought direct from Samsung not having the correct CSC. Some users have reported changing the CSC through SamKey successfully.
I have tried flashing with Telstra firmware but no luck.

I initially did *#272*IMEI# and was able to switch between CSC. When I switched to XAA, I was stuck and could not able to use the *#272*IMEI# anymore.. So I had XAA/XAA/ATT.. I saw many were stuck.
Found a solution that worked for me is as follows. Try at your own risk.
Downloaded the tool from
https://www.mysterious-dev.com/2020/05/changecsc-all-samsung-free-tool-android.html
and downloaded the ChangeCSC Software tool.. . watched the video couple of times.. The process lets you install custom THEME.. I was getting "Update" "Delete" and "Buy" ..
What did was
install another random theme
then went back to the program and clicked change CSC again
this time when I choose the custom theme pack, I saw the "Try now".. after that I followed the instruction to about phone->legal and clicked on CHANGE Carrier Android 10 and VOILA!!! I got that CSC change page.. I saw XAA was selected and I changed to TMB... after that "Sales& Network Code Change" and clicked ok.. .The phone restarted and saw the T-Mobile logo!!!!
I even tried the *#272*IMEI# and this time it worked and showed me the CSC screen!!!
Hope this helps anyone who is stuck...My phone now says TMB/TMB/ATT!!!

Hello,
Prior to doing the process. I used smartswitch and backed up my phone completely.. I also did factory reset the phone.. *** Since I was going to use a new method/tool, I was not sure so wanted to make sure it does not interfere with any existing account/app on the phone. Once I was able to get to the CSC screen and changed to TMB, I went back again to make sure do a factory wipe and start complete fresh out. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Thanks, but I am wondering if the tool wipes out the data on the phone?
The Mysterious Dev tool that you mentioned, when the tool was changing the CSC, did the tool factory reset your phone and wipe it?

hmm.. don't recall if it wiped.. I already had T-Mobile sim inside.. so when I saw the CSC selection page and as soon I choose TMB it restarted and came with T-Mobile splash Page, at that point I know it worked, so before even finishing up the boot process, I rebooted in recovery and did the factory reset

I had to do the CSC changing today and it simply rebooted and displayed the new CSC logo. It was with AT&T and when I change it to TMB. I get the T-Mobile boot logo.. I was able to get back in to the device without loosing any data.. The CSC showed TMB/TMB/TMB.. But I noticed the ringer/notifications sound still remained the AT&T settings. So to answer your initial question, my phone didn't get wiped out when switching the CSC.
Thx

I have found *some* Samsung models can still change CSC via firmware flash in Odin by following these pre requisites...
- disable find my phone
- sign out of Google and samsung accounts
- developer mode .... enable oem unlock
- flash a single CSC stock firmware in odin (do not use home-csc)
- phone will be completely wjped but after first boot and running setup, CSC will be change to match new firmware
Have any one tried

Emergency calls only. HELP!

Hello
I bought a used s9 a few months back. It had dual sim. In "about phone" it said G960F and was on android 9. A few days ago, I wanted to flash android 10 so I downloaded firmware for G960F, booted my phone in download mode and SURPRISE. The whole thing was in Korean and of course it was a G960N model. So I downloaded firmware for G960N this time and flashed it. Everything went perfect but when the phone booted up, It had no sim service.
I've tried everything I've found on the forums so far related to emergency calls only or no sim service.
Any kind of help would be appreciated. I have no sim service for 5 days now.
Things I've tried so far:
Flashing my phone again with android 9 stock firmware, which I can't do anymore as I've updated the bootloader lol.
Flashing custom roms
Changing csc from SKC to KOO
Flashing OXM CSC as I live in Pakistan
Flashing different modems and basebands
Nothing worked
Try flashing back a G960F android 10 firmware.

Done all of that. No luck
OK, let's go back to beginning: you've bought the used phone. 960F never was (as factory leaving) dual sim phone.
so, let's start from the beginning:
contact the seller and ask what the hell have you bought (if it was any variant of the S9 at all.. somehow I doubt it).
2nd: write down the IMEI and serial number, and check with Samsung if this configuration ever existed (if not, what I suppose, the IMEI/sn info about the REAL model can give you a hint what have you bought).
Having the above info in hands, find the "service firmware", 5 files ROM for your device and try to flash it.
If it will not work still, I'm afraid you have two options:
1. check IMEI against stolen devices with your carrier.
2. Go to Samsung service asking for help.
(if it was any variant of the S9 at all.. somehow I doubt it).

Well mostly it isn't a fake mediatek phone as it will not even have a download mode.
Probably he bought a shi**ily refurbished phone with it's internals mixed from multiple versions of the s9, in the best case.(a Frankenstein variant of the S9)

I'm going to solve this mystery for both of you. The phone he bought is indeed an S9. Here in Pakistan, 'software' guys in shops can convert these to dual sim models with some z3x and Chimera f*kery.
As for why his phone isn't working - it is because the phone had a tampered IMEI to bypass local custom charges levied on all imported phones (insane charges, doubles the price of these kinda phones). Once he flashed a new image on his phone, his IMEI status would have become NG instead of OK, which prevents the phone from accessing any networks.
Solution is to visit the same 'software' guys, ask them to 'patch' the phone. It is a 5 minute process, requires root (which these phones already have).
