Has there ever been a fix to the Wi-Fi/Late Notifications issue with Pixel Devices? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Almost every mobile and tablet device in the house does not have this issue, except for me and both my brothers.
I use custom ROMS and custom Kernels. My brothers are both on the latest official firmware and never root their devices or mess with them.
All 3 of us are using a Pixel 2 XL. All three of us, whether we connect to Wi-Fi 5Ghz or 2.4Ghz will always have notifications coming in late on whatsapp, emails, or other programs. The issue does not occur on 4G/Data at all, it does not occur with every other device in the house as I mentioned earlier. Just our Pixel 2 XL's.
We tried different router settings, and we tried two different routers, we tried static IP's for our devices, and dynamic IP's. All 3 of us, face the same issue. Late notifications, sometimes arriving only after opening the app (for example, whatsapp, and receiving the 60+ messages that have been sent over the last few hours all at the same time after opening it).
I am wondering if others face this issue? If it is common? If there is a solution for it?

Nothing similar here

How's are your notifications on your carrier service (without being connected to WiFi)?

[Q] AT&T Galaxy S III, WiFi 'authentication' issues and router question...

*EDIT* Posted in the wrong section; my apologies. i was looking in Q&A and hit 'new thread' in General. Move please? Again, sorry!
My GS3 will not connect to any WiFi networks. I have 13 days remaining to return/replace it. I have tried on 3 different routers; a Linksys WRT-54G, Belkin F5D8233-4 Wireless N router, and whatever D-Link router a local coffee shop had.
I have tried the special command *#0011# (or whatever it is). i have tried disabling WPS, changed router channels, disabled all security, switched between 20/40Mhz and 20Mhz modes, and reset/forgot every network and router probably 20 times last night, to no avail. From 2 feet away.
From what i have read, it appears to be a software glitch; pre-Sept 22 update didnt have the same problem, and the fact it keeps flashing 'incorrect password' and then gives me an authentication error, on fully unprotected networks, leads me to believe it is in fact software related.
Has anyone successfully connected to a router (if so, which one? specifically please), i am going to buy a second router to cover the rest of my house anyways (its big, cinderblock, steel, brick, and mortar with solid doors so WiFi doesn't penetrate very far), and i dont mind waiting for a fix (if its coming) for WiFi.
Its not a big problem because i have a grandfathered unlimited data plan, and i don't use data or surf much (average of 1.5 gigs a month for myself; 4-5 gigs when my girlfriend is home) so i dont actually need WiFi, but i paid for it, and i expected it to work.
As far as the routers I have, my sisters' my now-retired Motorola Atrix 4G, iPhone 4, my girlfriends' Blackberry Bold, my mothers' Kindle Fire, my fathers' iPad 3, and their iPhone 3Gs, three computers, one server, two laptops, and two printers all connect flawlessly. Even my *ancient* HTC Hermes and HTC Kaiser connect just fine, as well as any of our friends or guests devices. My friends' Samsung Galaxy Note also connects just fine (though i do not know which Android version she is using, or if they share the same WiFi chip).
So, in conclusion, how many others have this problem? did you have the same problem before the latest OTA update? and for those of you with no issues, which router models are you connecting to?
I just want this feature to work; we travel a lot, and rely on WiFi to communicate and do business abroad, so i will need it working in the coming weeks, and i would MUCH rather use take the GS3 over my unlocked Atrix.
Thanks in advance!
Sounds like a bad phone. Exchange it.

I seem to have stumbled upon a solution, mostly by accident. Even though i had repeatedly reset every variable and security feature, disabled everything and tried probably 20 times, with old and new firmware, i could not get it to connect and was about to return the phone.
Then my father came over with his new iPad; and it wouldnt connect either. I did a factory reset on the router, disabled everything (WPS, WEP/Security, firewall, etc) and both connected, seamlessly, and stayed connected.
Since then, it has connected just fine to any WiFi network; i never changed any advanced features on the phone, and i do not have to utilize the #*1100# trick; the signal is as strong as that of any other wireless devices. I believe there is a glitch or bug somewhere in the software on the SGIII, however, as it had been giving me authentication errors or 'wrong password' errors on completely unsecured networks. After i reset and factory restored the router, all is well. I havent set up security on my network at all, but i have both the iPad 3 and Galaxy S III here to play with, and i will go through different options until i identify what security feature, specifically, each does not work with.
I will attempt to post any errors and log dumps here so perhaps the community can fix it instead of waiting for Google, but i am unsure how to log and post them from the Galaxy S III, any pointers would be great.

VoIP problem

At my job, we use an Allworx VoIP phone system that offers an app for a soft phone. I was using it for about 8 months on the 6p with no issues, then on the note 7 until I had to give it back. On the pixel, we're having some issues where the phone will stop being able to connect back to the server when on wifi after a day or less. If I switch to 4g it will connect, then go back to wifi and it still won't. Reboot the phone and it works... For a short time. I called tech support for the company and they acknowledged a problem with the pixel and said it is up to Google to fix, it's not a problem with their app. They didn't offer me much info aside from that.
Has anyone heard any specific issues with the network stack on the pixel or with anything else that might cause this on this device but no others? I'd love to find some other workaround aside from rebooting my phone every few hours to stay connected when I'm not physically in the office.

Google Chrome Pages Constantly Reloading/Refreshing

Don't think this is necessarily unique to the Pixel 2 XL, but that's the phone I'm currently using. Since I purchased the phone a couple months ago, every site I pull up on Chrome will automatically reload every 30 seconds to a minute. Even chrome:// setting pages aren't immune. It doesn't matter if I have one tab open or 15. I tried clearing all Chrome data and settings, but that didn't have any effect.
I've seen lots of reports of Chrome refreshing inactive tabs, but that isn't what's happening here. Anyone else experience this issue? Other browsers (i.e. Firefox) aren't affected. I'm currently on 8.1.0 with the December 5, 2017 patches. Chrome is currently up-to-date (63.0.3239.111).

I'm not seeing this at all. I can't recall the last time I saw a page refresh in Chrome... ever. Maybe it will shift a bit (or look like refresh) while loading a really graphics intensive page, but once it fully loads it does not change. Are you using an adblocker? Maybe you've changed a setting or flag in Chrome. Flags now sort by date modified, so you can see the ones you've changed at the very top. ie. chrome://flags/
I've never had a tab just refresh while viewing it. I did have an issue where pages would refresh if I switched away from a tab or from Chrome to another app. It was a pain in the ass if I was doing something like typing in a comments section and wanted to look at a different tab or app. I haven't had that problem since getting my Pixel 2 XL.
I've been getting this on chrome the most, but I've had it refresh/redraw on a variety of apps. XDA, Google Messenger, Facebook messenger, and Inbox are the other common ones.
Yeah, this has been driving me nuts. I used to stay logged into my company website for a couple of hours but this constant reloading logs me out and I have to log back in. Super annoying.
Sounds like you should look at RAM usage around the time that it happens. May be you're aggressively swapping between mobile data and wifi? Shot in the dark
YES!! YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I have this issue too! Both on my pixel 2 xl (I've owned 3 of them, it happened on all of them) and also my pixel 2 xl. RAM is definitely not the issue here. It even happened while I was in safe mode. So I'm thinking it might be something substratum or magisk related.
Here are the apps I currently remember being affected by this refresh issue.
Telegram
Youtube
Chrome
Tugabrowser
Gboard
Textra
Mozilla Firefox for Android
Perhaps we could all provide a list of applications that we have installed, cross-reference the ones common to all of our devices so we can narrow down our search?
In this thread they suggest it's a network issue. When your phone get's low on signal, people have suggested it is causing the refresh. Check running your phone with airplane mode on and see.
It's happening to me constantly on my Pixel 2 XL and it's maddening. I am sitting 5' away from my router (OnHub). I cannot even write this post properly.
Total shot in the dark, based on the network issues post, but remember the problem with Chromecast causing network issues a few weeks ago? For me the issue began just about the time that a fix was supposed to have been implemented. Just wondering if there may be a connection? I use Google Home, Chromecast and an OnHub. I also see occasional toast messages that I've lost WiFi when my Wifi is on an working fine on all my other devices.

Yeah man. I don't know about it being Chromecast related.. as i still have my Chromecast now, no pixel 2 xl and no stupid redraws.
I returned my pixel 2 and got a OnePlus 5t. Haven't had any of these problems since
Also Having this issue
I got in touch with support about this about a month after I got my Pixel 2. They had me clear the cache, then boot into "safe mode" which disables all 3rd party apps. in that condition the problem went away in chrome (the only app I had seen the issue in that I could access through "safe mode") so they suggested I so a factory reset, and add apps one at a time to hone in on the problem.
I was a bit miffed as I hadn't had any issues on my 6p, and I hadn't added any apps since I moved over to the Pixel, but I played along and started fresh.
I haven't seen the issue for about 3 months now, until yesterday. I have been adding apps slowly as I go, and the re-appearance of the problem doesn't seem to be tied to a specific app, since it has been over 2 weeks since I have added anything new to my phone aside from pictures and podcasts.

I tried the same thing. It still happened in safe mode. I'm inclined to believe it's a signal issue as others are saying
I posted this on another site, but thought I'd post here as well since I was looking for the answer here previously, in case anyone else is searching:
"Had been noticing this issue for a while, with Facebook, Chrome, Messages refreshing constantly. I have the Pixel 2 and a Skagen Hybrid watch. After reading this thread, found that the refresh was occuring every time bluetooth disconnected or reconnected, which was occurring frequently because it was at the edge of bluetooth range with the watch in another room.
Used IFTTT to log bluetooth connections and disconnections with the watch while the watch was in another room for an hour, followed by an hour wearing the watch with the phone nearby.
In the hour tested with the watch in another room, I logged 32 connections & 31 disconnections - would cause 63 refreshes. In the following hour testing with the watch on my wrist, I logged 0 connections & 0 disconnections.
If you find the same, disconnect the watch/turn off bluetooth when you're not wearing it to avoid the refresh issue. Might be the same with other bluetooth devices, didn't test using any others."

This is not a fix. I have a Withings Steel HR Sport (and previously a Misfit Shine 2) and I have that permanently connected, I also use bluetooth for the car so I don't want to be turning this off and on all day. I didn't have this issue at all under similar conditions, it only started popping up around July for me and it is infuriating when apps, videos and webpages are refreshing whilst reading them. I have factory reset my phone once and that didn't solve the issue either.
Is anyone else still experiencing this issue?

Netflix and other apps not working over home WIFI?

Hello Ladies and Gents...
I have both a Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Both phones are experiencing the same problem. At my home wifi, I'm not able to login to login to my work office 365 emails, and login netflix. Both apps work just fine over LTE and using work Wifi. I have other android and Apple devices that work just fine at home doing these simple tasks. I have a netgear R9000 router and Netgear Orbi mesh network. I've tried both 2.4 and 5Ghz bans and even tried different encryptions (WPA and WPA2). I've also tried creating separate wifi networks from each wifi and mesh devices. One of the phones i tried doing a factory reset and that didnt work. It still has the same issues. I'm at a loss at this point as it seems ive tried everything short of doing a hard reset on the phones.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys, just wanted to post an update.
I was able to figure out a fix to this problem affecting me. Hopefully this will help others with similar problem. Rather then posting on multiple threads i will post my findings here as it looks to be affecting multiple users.
Here are some of the post i've found concerning this issue.

From my extensive troubleshooting I've done, this wifi\app connectivity issues lead me to find the culprit as being the modified MTU settings on my router. I have yet to find the reasoning as to why the Pixel 3\XL or Android Pie in general are more sensitive to packet fragmentation. My other PCs, android (8) and Apple devices had absolutely no issues with in my mesh network. Keep in mind that MTU settings can be Internet provider specific. You will need to find the optimal setting for your home network. Mine on Spectrum Cable has a default 1500. I've made modifications for gaming to assist in bufferbloating which in turn caused issues with my Pixel 3 phones. Once i reverted back to the default MTU setting, all 3rd party apps began working again. No more Netflix login issues, or office 365 Webmail issues, or not being able to access encrypted sites. All working again. We are back loving our Pixel 3's again.
I hope this helps you all. Good luck.!
Thank you so so much for this !!!

Question SM-F926B sporadic "freezing" data connection [with O2 Germany]

Hello together,
since I couldn't find anything about that issue in detail beyond the usual vague articles (where one copies the mediocre content from someone else, it seems) such as this one, I'd like to share the following:
Using a SM-F926B which natively came with Android 12 (F926BXXU1BVA9 preinstalled and also after having it updated further to F926BXXS1BVB3), I have the issue that the data connection using 4G(+) (APN-wise and nowadays the lovely internet access of course) although staying connected, doesn't pass any traffic anymore at some point. The small "arrow" in the upload direction is periodically showing up then but nothing in the downstream direction, rendering the whole thing effectively offline, both directly and any tethered device connected to it, which is very annoying. Only quick resolution is to toggle the famous airplane mode.
While it is on one hand appreciated to occur not all the time, it also makes it more difficult to narrow down the error. In conjunction with the German provider O2 it occurred maybe every 1-2 days. During the last time it happened, I had a SMS being sent to the Fold which got successfully delivered so the mobile connection itself stays active (neither does the service monitor available though *#0011# shows anything suspicious) so it seems to be an issue with rather the APN-related connection. A problem with the provider network can be ruled out though as a Netgear LBR20 with another SIM from the same contract runs perfectly fine since ~ 180 days.
Meanwhile I downgraded to Android 11 (F926BXXU1AUJ7) to see if the same error occurs as well, hinting on a hardware issue (a very interesting one then, though as the overall data throughput performance of the Fold 3 is amazing) or some incompatibility with Android 12 (which would then however also raise the question why not all exemplars are affected the same way, which suggests hardware differences even within one model line such as that very F926B).
Has anyone of you experienced that or a similar phenomenon?
