Hi guys,
I have a android 8.0 head unit on my 2011 VW polo, I'm also using a carplay dongle,
The head unit has two knobs - a left knob that controls the volume and a right knob that controls the song currently playing (next & previous).
I would like to change the right knob's functionality - instead of moving between songs to act just as pressing up&down (just works better with carplay)
I've found that the knobs have the same functionality as the steering wheel buttons as shown in the picture below: (sorry for the bad quality)

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Yellow ones are the same as the left knob
Red ones are the same as the right knob
I want to remap the right knob without losing the functionality of moving between songs using my steering wheel.
I've also found on the factory settings a changeable value named knob mode:
As for my understanding, 8.2k/15k ADC ports correspond to the steering wheel buttons,
I guess the other next option corresponds to the steering wheel buttons on the other side of the wheel (I only have left side buttons, so that's a problem for me)
My next option is the IO Ports, but I have no idea how to set them as I wish.
The head unit seller could not help me.
Any help will be appreciated
I think you're wrong.
The Knob mode is not intended for the Wheel Steering buttons. For this you have to enable the option "Steering wheel key assign" inside "factory settings->others", Apply and exit (reboot may required).
Now you should see the option "Steering wheel keys" inside "CAR" settings, and moreover you should have the shortcut in your apps.
From this panel you can assign the actions to the Steering wheel keys, and obviously it works only if your original steering wheel keys system is resistive. Otherwise if you have a canbus system, you need for a canbus decoder which needs to be connected between your canbus line and unit cables.
The Knob mode, is intended for the type of phisical button's panel your unit have, specifically for the volume encoder (rotating) object. Some panel come with various resistors, calculated based on the encoder hadware's type, so you should never edit the Knob mode, since it's properly set-up from the manufacturer.
To re-map the physical buttons on the left and right side of your unit, you just need to go in "Factory settings->Key study->Panel key study".
Op joined, got answer, didn't thank poster who answered. Typical.

Hi,
How I have done this I don't know, but suddenly the back hardware button (2nd to the right) brings up the volume adjust screen instead of returning to the previous screen?

It is the same screen as when pressing the VOLUME UP/VOLUME DOWN button.
Regarding registry tweaks etc I have only installed Diamond Tweak and the Itouch sensitivity tweak, for the rest all official software but I can't find any relevant settings that could have caused this.
It's not really a problem, but pretty annoying as I was used to using the back button and now everytime this screen pops up.
Anyone knows how I can restore the original functionality of this button?
Thanks!
Doesn't look like the standard volume control app to me. Have you installed some other volume control application that may have a hardware key assigned to it?
Hi and thanks for your reply. I installed the following apps and software but I can't imagine which one has caused this:
- TP2 TF3D Neon Tabs - V1.1 > removed again properly
- MusicID
- Skype
- Emoze Pro
- Diamond Tweak
- MP3Trimmer
- ITouch sensitivity tweak
- S2U2
- Total Commander
- Sprite backup
- Fabliv Action Screen
- No bottom curtain (transparent T3FD icons)
- No top curtain (transparent provider bar)
- Custom top bar icons
- Spike's ~ 6.1 MicNeo TaskBar Varient
I installed all cabs and did not use any manual regedit...
Hi,
I had the same after installing S2U2. If you disable in S2U2 sttings the Volume Control option the hardware back button is working like it has been in the beginning. By the way the volume keys will work in standby so this option is not neede for the Rhodium.
Kind regards
I dont have a pro 2, but it is possible that the button got reassigned for some reason, if open the start menu, go to settings, then all settings, go to the personal tab, and then click buttons and you can reassign what all the buttons do, and you can select the back button and then choose what command you want it to do, and that should allow you to fix it.
BTW- the steps might not be 100% accurate because I typed this based off of memory and didn't actually go through the steps to double check but I think it should work, if you get to the button settings screen though you should be able to reassign what all the buttons do
hope that helps
I dont think thats gonna work because you cant reassign the back button.. Ive also installed s2u2 and have also volume control when i press the back button.. When i disable volume control it works again..

Hi.
I'm looking for some help regarding the functions available via the steering wheel on my Mondeo MK4. I've read numerous threads that touch on this topic but I haven't found any definitive answers so I thought It would be worth starting a specific one here.
Background
I replaced the original Sony 6 CD Head Unit with an Auto-Pumpkin (MTCC RK3188 KLD6 V2.91) which has an external CAN bus decoder.
What works (the left steering wheel button array):-
Volume Up/Down
Track next/previous
Function button to cycle between AM/FM Radio, DVD, AV-IN, Video, Audio App
What doesn't work (the right steering wheel button array and indicator stick additional functions):-
Ability to select mobile phone options (answer/end calls, call list, address book)
Voice commands button
I never used the voice controls so that's no great loss, but I did use the mobile phone controls often, so would like to explore the options of regaining them.
I am aware that varying levels of CAN bus functionality can be achieved by selecting different configurations from the settings menu on the head unit, and some people have even re-wired for improved function but not on a MK4 Mondeo (that I can find via google).
I'm assuming the phone issue is CAN bus related because when I select any function that is based on the SoM (DVD, FM Radio, Video in etc) the Convers+ shows more options, including phone (although it is greyed-out - I'm assuming because no phone is paired). I also noticed that the Ford bluetooth module is still active as it shows up, but only when this menu is available. Unfortunately I can't connect to it because the Android HU doesn't display the PIN for pairing like the original Sony HU did.
This is a picture of the Convers+ when the Android HU is operating with only Android apps running (e.g. DAB tuner, Rocket Player)

}
This is picture of the same Convers+ when any of the SoM apps are running (DVD, FM Radio, Video in etc)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it would seem that the CAN bus controller activates only when one of the SoM apps are running? I only understand the basics of CAN bus and how it interacts with the HU so this is very much a wild guess.
What I would like is to have my phone controls available via steering wheel buttons, in whatever way that is possible.
Any help, advice or suggestions are, as always, greatly appreciated.
p.s. these are the HU details
I'm new to android radio, having looked but not touched for a long time.
I have a 2015 Jetta and for my birthday my family got me a Burger Motorsports JB4 (Piggyback tuner), and an XTRONS radio (PX5 8 core 4GB unit.)
The JB4 unit uses the CANBUS to keep track of engine parameters while it modifies signals between the engine and ECU to control boost, fuel pressure, and timing. Officially BMS says it won't work if you have other devices connected to the CANBUS and say it is due to bandwidth issues. If the JB4 detects that it isn't getting enough information across the CANBUS it defaults down to a safer tune.
I've discovered that as long as the radio boots after the JB4 they seem to play nicely together, for the most part. But this means the XTRONS software loses lots of settings every time I start the car.
I'm looking for a way to control what and how much the Radio uses the CANBUS for, I think if I could limit it to steering wheel controls and reverse camera I would be happy, or even just delay the CANBUS connection in the car for 30 seconds. The other path would be to flash a ROM that keeps all its settings when it is rebooted but I haven't seen that issue addressed in the HAL9000 or Malaysk threads.
Is there a way to modify what the CANBUS module is looking for? Would other ROMS tolerate being rebooted better?
Hi Profsnakes,
I am currently working on modification of some images in canbus.apk file
I am not sure you can get more from your car by just modifying the software, it depends mainly on the canbus adapter you are using
Have a nice day

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I don't know or understand much about the development side of this stuff. I've worked as an electrical technician for years and have a good understanding of how a Canbus works but not the programming or design side of the stuff attaching to it.
Rather than getting more out of it, I was hoping actually to be able to limit how much it used the network somehow. Even just reducing how often it polls the network. The other device I have attached requires a constant data stream from the ECU.
At this point, I have narrowed the problem down. While it would still be good to limit the bandwidth used by the radio. It seems the error I was having was being caused by the USB connection between the radio and the tuner when the car was starting up. So far disconnecting the USB when the car is off and reconnecting after it turns on seems to keep it stable. I ordered a USB "KVM" style switch that I'm hoping will keep me from having to open the glovebox all the time.
Heres what I've got going.

Hi, I bought Peugeot 508 with factory integrated JBL 5.1 sound system with already fitted Andoid (A-media, RK3188, 5.1.1, MTCE_MX ) already canbus decoder (no brand, just sign for 2008) connected to the unit.
All signals from the steering wheel and buttons are working. Wipers, fuel level, volume, clima, etc... So the canbus is doing his job, except for the audio.
I tried different ROMs factory, Malaysk, Hal9k, with different versions of MTCE_MX from 2.96 to 3.30, but the same result.
I found a video having totally the same behaviors as mine:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Eb2N_9NF2c
If I move the volume control I got perfect sound for 3 seconds than cuts off....so if I'm moving the volume up and down contentiously I'm never loosing the sound, but it will show on the screen volume up-down all the time.
I tried all manufactures and types in the CANBUS sub-menu but all has the same result - no sound or sound 2-3 seconds and cut out.
In my mind the canbus adapter doesn't send sync signal to the JBL amplifier and then amp is cutting the sound, but I'm not sure.
Cannot be too high levels of the signal, because I can turn the volume up to the end and still is keeping perfect sound for 3 sec and cut off.
I also tried to change the type of amp with lexia there are 2 types "other" and "RT5", both has negative result.
Observations:
1. Without canbus module is no sound at all when the unit is connected in the car.
2. With Lexia diagniostic utility test of the Amplifier is completed without any issues, I can hear all speakers and sub.
3. I tried to connect the Android unit out of the car with directly connected speakers without Canbus, and all is working fine.
So for me is 3 solutions now:
1. Check with different canbus module box, but looks like every different manufacturer is producing its own canbus modules... My Android device is having brand A-Media ((MX) MAI_XIN Shenzhen Mai Xin Da Technology Co. Ltd) and there is no any support I found.
2. Find diagram for the AMP to catch where the signal is expected
3. Find app in google play to emulate up and down volume every second
4. Find the file responsible for CAN audio and change it with working one, if any.
If someone knows what can be done, or just ideas... please lae me know!
Thanks in advance!
Angel
I have the same car with same setup. I had the same problem when installing the head unit. It's easy to fix. Just go to the "Factory settings" and select the same settings like on the picture.

Thanks a lot. I will test and reply ASAP.
I'm using same:
Canbus 61
Left Rudder
8 508 H
With Amplifier
Key mode NO
The difference is:
Aircondition : type1
and you have MTCE_MX_V3.41_1 and I have 3.30.
I will update MCU and revert.
Also mine is RK3188 and your is RK3368.
Thanks a lot again, I will keep you posted!
Any news?
Is it working?
Does anyone know how to change the audio output to device instead of bluetooth without turning off bluetooth if there is no media controls? Why would they get rid of something as simple as the old output switch menu on the volume control.
Hit the volume up or down button. Then on the slider hit the 3 dots under the volume slider. It will bring you to another screen and then you can select where the audio comes from.

The option is only there when there are media controls. If I'm playing something through Chrome or reddit is fun there are no media controls and thus no option to change it. I have to start playing a song, switch it, and then go back to chrome.
So was an answer to this -- something that used to be so easy seems now impossible. I am watching SlingTV and want to change from Bluetooth to speaker. Nearly impossible.
EDIT Never-mind -- hit the 3 dots, 2nd option is "P;ay Sling Tv ON..." hit that and then you get your choices....
Why can't you turn off Bluetooth? I feel like that is the fastest way to change the audio output in your situation. It takes about two seconds whereas swapping the audio output devices in the three-dot volume menu takes around six seconds.
On second thought, I suppose that time difference is too miniscule for it to even matter, haha.
