hi,
I'm on arb3 since whyred switched to arb4. since then I always updated with non arb firmware. right know I'm on non arb pie firmware while having an oreo based rom. I noticed all the talk about new pie based roms and how need pie firmware, while oreo based roms doesn't work with pie. so I got confused because my roms work with orea based. then I read this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79630538&postcount=1586
now I'm wondering what to do. keep arb3 the way I always had or should I update to a arb4 oreo firmware for a oreo based rom, maybe it will fix my long lasting wifi dc problems.
switch to arb4, i mean we have may 2019. Theres also oreo arb4 firmware out there. Trust me, you will never switch back to Nougat. Go with the progress.

I switched the moment arb4 came out and never had single issue.. Always laughed at paranoia ridden individuals here avoiding arb4 at all costs lmao.

No use sticking with arb3, it's so outdated now, i litterally have no problems with arb4 fw, for pie based fw, battery backup is probably a bit worse than oreo fw based.
Yeah, you won't have any problem with arb4 unless u want to use few month old roms (which is stupid anyways). Arb4 appeared in 8.7.6 global beta/9.5.19 global stable, so u have high range of roms to choose between.
Alright I switched to arb4 latest stable oreo, now I will check wifi for 1 week and report if it changed something. Phone seems more smooth but could be just a placebo.
With this wifi issue are u sure it's not at ur end? I never had something like this, tho i only use wifi at home.

I have updated to oreo but the phone has terrible battery life even after trying to disable some wakelocks , using greenify , forcing doze etc. I was wondering if I could flash lineage os or let's say resurrection remix on the phone while it has oreo firmware .
I also would like to know

Of course custom roms can be flashed after stock Oreo update.
BUT:
You need to read the requirements in the thread for the specific rom you wish to flash.
There is no single answer for all cases/roms.
Each rom is going to be different, based on whatever blobs were used during rom compilation.
If the rom was built using Oreo blobs, then Oreo firmware is required.
If the rom was compiled using Nougat blobs, then it would require Nougat firmware, despite the actual version of android it is...
So...., read the OP of the thread for the rom you want to flash.
If that doesn't answer your question, then read the last 5-10 pages of the thread.
Still no answer found, then ask in that particular rom thread, what firmware is required.
It's actually pretty simple and typically requires a little reading.
(eventually, all Oreo based custom roms, should be using Oreo blobs and would then require Oreo firmware)
Things are in what I consider a transition phase currently....
TL;DR: LeeDroid 5+ is your only option ATM.
Hey, when I got the notification for 9.5.19 Global OTA I switched to custom ROMs to not get Anti-Rollback 4 but to be honest, I miss MIUI so is there maybe a modded version or so that has the rollback stuff removed? While some ROMs like AEX have edge gestures they are not even nearly as good the MIUI ones and I absolutely hate one screen keys.

I tried 8.7.12 and no problems so far
Try masik miui. Although, it is still 8.7.9 but it is without anti rollback . They're going to update to 8.7.12 soon.
As Like Going to Android O after Instaliing Android P is a downgrade too, So I was just wondering if I can checkout Mokee Android P Rom, Can I get back to MIUI 8.7.12 (Oreo), Or even Anti Rollback Policy will Restrict me from doing that. I finally manage to download and flash TWRP on my RN5 Pro so far. I love MIUI but Even love to Check Another Roms. I'm at MIUI 8.7.12 currently.
I'll be glad if some MODERATORS will reply me about it, As I want to check Android P, biut without Bricking my Phone lol.
******HELP ME with that.

miui 10 8.7.5 is ARB3
this only applies to MIUI roms if AOSP or LAOS it doesnt apply.
but when going back to miui go back to 8.7.5 or global stable 5.9.17.0

I am on Pixel Experience rom, and want to try another rom. I was on MIUI 10.02 and I unlocked bootloader and installed PE rom. Now I want to try another rom, but am afraid of bricking phone. Is it safe to flash another custom rom? or what?

Flashing Custom ROMs is safe leaving aside MIUI based custom ROMs.
Go from Oreo to Pie or Pie to Oreo without a doubt in any AOSP or Lineage OS based ROM, but if you ever want to go back to MIUI or any MIUI based ROM just ensure that you install the latest version or the version higher than the one you had previously.
Only the firmware found in MIUI ROM is responsible for bricking. So you can also try firmware-less MIUI ROMs. There are many relevant threads regarding it.
Just do a search.

Ok what are roms that based on miui to avoid them?
It's easy to find by the nomenclature.
Their names include MIUI or a variation of it.
Some are: Revolution OS, MIUI Pro, MIUI Eu, Masik ROM.

I mentioned that you should always install a MIUI build that is of higher version than you previously had to be on the safer side.
After MIUI 9.5.17, ARB protection bumped to ARB4 from ARB3.
So, once you update to any ARB4 version and then make a mistake of installing any MIUI build of ARB3, your device will be bricked.
That's why I mentioned that always ensure that you install the latest build or the build with version higher than the one you had previously installed.

I believe his question was about custom MIUI roms which have firmware update removed so that risk of bricking is non existent. I believe reading that Masik does not contain firmware, but I'm not sure.
Other than your good explanation about ARB4 vs ARB3, one thing to add: anyone on ARB4 can flash any ARB4 rom since the bootloader checks for anti rollback protection index but not the MIUI version specifically. So any rom starting from Stable v9.5.19 if I remember and Beta 8.7.6 are safe, until ARB5 comes (if it comes, and if it requires ARB5).

as long as they tell you in the rom features or installation that doesnt affect ARB or doesnt touch firmware its ok.. but not sure if not all miui based roms have firmeareless. so you need to read rom intructions.

PE Extended. Also depends on the Kernel. But nothing like MIUI gives you better battery life.
try mcaosp rom... you won't switch to any other rom ever... best custom pie rom in my opinion. or if wanna go for miui based go for masik x1.7

Hi, I've seen most ROMs recommend firmware from MIUI 12.5.x and not the latest is there any reason for that ? Does the latest firmware could break something ? Or lead to weird bugs/new bugs ?
A11 miui based roms have hit their end of life for the most part (12.5.19) almost all the bugs have been worked out and is very stable. Imo, as well as many others, the A12 based miui roms are sometimes if not always missing import features such as face unlock (at the time of writing this). The A12 based roms, imo, are not the most stable roms for the poco f3 atm (I've tried both, and ended up sticking to 12.5.19 xiaomi EU stable)

Oh interesting so we're kind of a lab test for the new firmware in EEA, I thought China would have been the test case first and then they would deploy it to others ROMs (Indian, EEA, Global, etc.) once it is stable enough
