I can't seem to find a consistent guide on this. Any help to to get me rooted and using an unlocked bootloader is greatly appreciated. If anyone knows a great, recent guide or knows how to do this, please link it.

There's no OEM unlocking option in my developer's options. I thought it was weird but this phone is brand new as I just got it today

So its your carrier's problem then. TMobile to be exact. Are you on a contract or anything? Can you issue an unlock request if no contract?
(I dont know much how US-locked phone works~)
So I've got mine unlocked, almost absolutely 0 information on the product. Researched about 3 hrs now and still only got the info obtained from devcheck. Will provide anything required. Looking to root magisk, wanna try out lineage. I'll be a tester, i am a noob.

Yes did anything ever come of this? Also when you unlock it, does it you to root it?
So is there a way to get the OEM option to appear in the dev options or a way to install a bootloader without OEM?
I'm having the same exact problem with my phone. Same model and everything and I also do not have the unlocking option In my dev options. I've tried every exploit known to me and have no luck. I tried flashing TWRP theough Odin without the OEM unlocking and I get a fail because of a secure check fail which I'm not sure is related to the bootloader not being unlocked or something else. I'd love to get an answer to this so I can get lineageos on here
Has anyone found anything yet on how to unlock or enable OEM unlocking
As I understand it the OEM unlock setting is only available after owning the device for 160 days.

Firmware info of Samsung Galaxy J2 (Metro PCS) [SM-J260T1]
Android version - 8.1.0 (Oreo)
Build # M1AJQ.J260T1UVS6ATG2
There is no OEM unlock option in the dev options for this phone.
The most I could do is to get in to go into download mode, no bootloader came up.
I Used ADB Command: adb reboot bootloader
Another PC app I seen on xda forums is called "ADBAppControl".
There is an option reboot your phone with adb built in to do it too.

My J2 is new and No at this Point, One Reply in here said after 160 days of owning it the option opens up, so I will have wait for the 160 days are up to check again.
Update, it been Over 160 Days and still do not see anything in the dev options. I bought the phone 4-12-2020. So i guess it lockout code that releases the option i suppose. or it just not available with this phone.
Was thinking of flashing my old stock 4.1 on it. cause 4.1 i had no trouble rooting it.
Yes,I'm new to the forum. I also have the same model phone unlocked from the carrier(Metro PCS). I've tried several ways to root this device but I don't have access to a PC I also get the security error code to pop up when I tried to install custom OS. I can't seem to get the recovery backup or to actually Flash the proper image to the bootloader I've also tried kingroot, kingoroot, l root, and some other one click root options. My understanding of using team Win Recovery Project without PC is limited I'm also trying to use magisk with it.In A novice in understanding...Does anyone have any advice..

Hey everyone I'm looking to unlock my phone. The goal is unlock, twrp (or alt), Detoxed Rom w/ Root Magsik. The phone is from Telus and Telus SIM it's Canadian variant. Model # SM-G960W.
Links: Unlock Bootloader? , TWRP , Detoxed Rom
TWRP says it doesn't support W version, or is there away around this? Thanks
I would like to help you about this if you still having this problem
Unfortunately the only version of TWRP supported Snapdragon version of S9 is only for 9600. And I don't think that it will work for 960W

One more if your real goal is to unlock Canadian version of S9 you should know that in Canada all phones should be sold unlocked since December 2017 (you should be able to use any SIM card} . But if your goal is to root the phone (for example to remove all Samsung bloatware) there's no way to do this for now

If it have the ability for the BL to be unlocked then someone will probably make one for it.

That patch is generated for every phone, even ones with locked bootloaders, so it will work if you can unlock the bootloader but that will never happen.
I found one way to unlock the bootloader on my galaxy s9 sm-g960w
I used this firmware on this page, it's a crom.(combinat...), https://shell.boxwares.com/Download.aspx?L=8417
Although the page says it's for the sm-g960w, the filename once downloaded says it's for g960u. Nonetheless, after flashing using odin the patched version, you can unlock the bootloader in Developer settings. At least for me it's there.
So, using this crom enable to unlocked bootloader, firmware.mobi doesn't contain a CF-AUTO-ROOT file for this version of the firmware.(COMBINATION_FAC_FA80_G960USQU3ARG2) so I still unsure whether it can be rooted. When I visit the samsungfour.com website, it gives me a security certificate error and fails to load so I cannot say for certain that the tutorial on their website for the sm-g960w snapdragon 845 varient works or not. I'll try the website later tonight or tommorow and post back here.

im on G960WVLS3ARJ6 , no limitations on what build you have to flash?
I might not update to Pie when it comes out!
I was on the latest build when I flashed with patched Odin. which was G960WVLS3ARJ6
i wouldnt waste your time.. its not a "crom" more so your standard combination firmware.. combo firms have always had the oem unlock option in dev settings.. unfortunately all it will really do for you is disable frp.. the bootloader will still remain locked..
you can confirm this by going into dl mode and trying to flash a custom img.. also can verify in adb by doing a getprop..
flash lock and other lock will still be 1 and verifiedbootstate will still be green.

Sorry to answer hours after but I didn't got any notifications...
So, download,
platform tools : https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
Latest 7.1.2 build : https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/bullhead-n2g48c-factory-45d442a2.zip
Then exctract the content of the 7.1.2 build in the platform tools folder then connect you smartphone to your PC in bootloader mode (vol down + power button).
Finally in the platform tools folder you will find a file named flashall.bat, simply execute it and you are done, your device will be on stock 7.1.2
PS: This guide was done assuming you know how to lock and unlock your bootloader if not...tell me ? (kidding happy to help ? ).

NOTE : unlocking bootloader will erase all your data!!!
NOTE 2 : If you lock your bootloader without the factory image flashed you will brick your device so no more usable!!!!! So personnaly I don't recommand you to do that because you don't need that to return on Android 7 it's just a "security" for your data.
NOTE 3 : read this guide too because it's more complete and what you are going to do is a bit risky(I speak for locking bootloader) , really! Don't want a message saying "you forgot this line, my device is lost ? ...".
So let's start fun things ?
Go in developer options and enable oem unlock and USB debugging.
Then reboot in bootloader mode and connect your device to your computer.
After that open the prompt command from the extracted platform tools folder by right clicking in this folder with the maj key down.
In this command windows write the following line:
fastboot oem unlock
Or .\fastboot oem unlock if your are on windows 10 (windows is blue instead of black).
When the bootloader is unlocked you can flash a custom recovery then instal a ROM/kernel or flash the factory image.
When you have flashed the factory image (stock ROM...) you can lock the bootloader with this line(same method)
fastboot oem lock (add .\ for windows 10).
Tell me if you need further help ? .

I have read comments from developers to advice users whose apps are not functional that the devices should not be rooted and generally should be stock.
Anyways..I will think it again if I continue to the procedure..

Just keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader and flashing the original rom will NOT result in a rooted phone. If you do the this and relock the bootloader, then your phone will be in a totally stock NON ROOTED state. So any concerns that you have regarding root don't apply here.
I am still on 7.1.2 too because of the performance/lag issues in 8.1
... I never upgraded... Is it still really that bad in 8.1 ? Or better with latest patches?

Hi,
my device got bootlooped. Warranty expired 20 days ago and the cost was too high to repair.
So, I followed an online tutorial, flashed my phone and came back to life.
The issue is that the bootloader is unlocked and I cannot use android pay (it says that the device is somehow altered)
Although banking apps work normally.
Is it ok to relock the bootloader?
(what if the device get bootloop again? / is it possible to brick my device? / could I use another way to bypass and activate android pay?)
Thanks

Firstly let me tell you that I am assuming that you have flashed an official stock rom, if you didn't then just ignore what I am saying!
I never heard of anyone bricking the device just by locking the bootlader. The worst thing that can happen is to get a bootloop indeed, but if you just unlock the bootloader again then it should be fixed. Bricking the device just by locking the bootloader sounds totally impossible to me at least. I don't know if there is another way to bypass this and activate android pay but even if there is personally I will not have trusted it.

Which phone variant do you have? What is the status of the "Allow OEM Unlocking toggle" under Developer Settings? That has to be toggled on first. It should be clearly "on" and not greyed out. If you have the 2XL, you can run the IMEI through this link to verify the variant you have. Under Buyer Name It should say "Google_Open_64GB" or similar.

Well unfortunately there is your reason. Your bootloader cannot be unlocked because your variant is Verizon. Verizon's are bootloader locked and this cannot be overcome. As such you will not be able to flash a custom recovery, flash full Google factory images, or root the phone.

Sorry to say but it's not new for Verizon variants of Pixel or Nexus (or almost any other phone Verizon sells with very few exceptions). Verizon refuses to allow their users to unlock their own bootloader- including Google phones. Your Verizon phone is bootloader-locked and there is nothing you can do about it. Verizon phones are sometimes sold at deep discounts with the hook of a multi-year service agreement. Have you ever heard the term "The Red Devil" used for Verizon? It's not new either. Sorry to bring you the bad news, but it is true. There are many threads here on XDA which will confirm this. Best of luck.

It's no big deal, my gf took the upgrade to Pie and hates it and I was just gonna root mine before it started prompting me. Someone will get it unlocked in a year or something like always. You may not have unlocked critical. There are two separate commands. Anyway, since your RMA is on the way just wait until it arrives, update it to Pie and then do a data transfer for all your settings/data. Once your new phone is set up, just do a FDR before sending it back. You do NOT need to relock the phone. They do not care. Just FDR to wipe your personal data off the phone. Lastly, you want to de-register or remove that old phone from your Google account before sending it back. Best of luck.

Thank you so much dude. I know you're right . I used the toolkit and nothing after unlocking ever worked and I'm assuming it's because of that .... I've been telling myself I need to learn it the old fashioned way but have never been able to properly install adb and all that stuff..

I would encourage you to just "install" adb/fastboot. It is literally opening a zip file and extracting everything into a new folder. Then adding that folder to your path statement (Windows) means you can use the command from anywhere. For example I created a folder c:\adb and just dumped the files in there. I see you already have opened the flash-all.bat script and are poking around ... so in the beginning you can just cut and paste those commands if you want to do things manually -or- just run the script. You can always get the latest standalone binaries direct from Google. Ditch the toolkits and you will be glad you did. It is just not that hard, and you will know how to get yourself out of a jam later. :good:
I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was cake. Thanks for the awesome directions. I just opened up through cmd insead of your second step, but dude! clutch . I relocked it.. took 2 seconds once my buddy helped me tpye my first command. But thank you again! Now debating getting more into it. This is the first phone i haven't installed a custom ROM on because the unlock and root stuff absolutely failed...
hi,
A70 is now widely sold, i try to buy one soonest but just waiting for root and twrp. it is still empty here on xda...
i found a link show how to root and install
https://myphoneupdate.com/samsung-galaxy-a70-twrp-recovery/
can i ask if some one already tried as above? looks like a copy method for all kind of phones ...
tks.
Most likely fake, the article was published a month ago. A70 only got released on 26th March.
I would definitely wait until someone posts a technique here; I tend to trust the experts here, but not so much everywhere else on the internet. I would prefer to wait a few weeks and put with an unrooted device, rather than possibly end up with a bricked (or hijacked) device.
Andre
ok i will wait...
it was like this, waited for s10+, came twrp but didnot like camera hole and waiting for A70, then waiting for twrp, then oneplus7pro release, then wait a bit for its twrp, till then note 10 pro comes soon, then wait for twrp of it....
and after 2+ year still using note8 LOL

First thing I tried ofcourse, rooting the A70, but... follow the steps in the manual yourself, and you'll see that you get stuck on step 3:
3.) After That Download TWRP Recovery https://twrp.me File On Your PC And Renamed The Downloaded Recovery File Name To twrp.img.
But there is no TWRP Recovery available for the A70
I also tried the A50 manual, but that also fails (stuck on OEM lock). I can install CROM Service, but it crashes.

don't follow some clickbait website's...
wait for a proper and trusted dev to release twrp. the phones has barely hit the market it will take a few weeks (if not months) at least till someone builds an twrp. one think you could provide us with would be some information. is the bootloader unlockable?
In devsettings is a possible to unlock oem. Try this before flashing twrp. If twrp flashed ok, I think need to wipe all data, include internal storage, then flash DM-VERITY, FORCE ENCRYPTION, AND DISC QUOTA DISABLER
zackptg5.com/android.php
I don't try it by myself. But you can try it, if you just buy the phone, and have not important data on it
What about this guide is it worth trying or not really possible? https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html

Mine (bought direct from Samsung UK) has the OEM Unlock option in the Developer Options menu. Not tried it yet, not really much point until there is a reliable and tested root out there.

Samsung account
Hello. My dumbass bought used A70 with samsung account. I can't make a factory reset, because it needs password from old owner account which i don't know. But I have my Google account on that phone and Google find my device enabled. Will I need to enter samsung account information when I make a reset via Google find my device? So when reset is made, phone will be locked only by FRP? And then when I login in my old Google account can i create a new Samsung account or do I need to login in existing that was on that phone first? Sorry for offtopic.
Any news about TWRP? SuperSu or Magisk?
Hello All, still can't find TWRP for sm-a705fn
Can I flash TWRP for another Exynos phone, like Galaxy 9, to my A70 ?
Also, can I still use SuperSu with Pie/A70 ? I failed to root my previous Galaxy Tab8 with custom Pie using SuperSU, had to root with Magisk instead,
it worked just fine, but the link to topjohnwu mentioned in previous posts, tells scary things about Samsung/Pie/Magisk -
like, I have to switch between two recoveries... Is that really the case?
I haven't noticed any issue with Tab8/Pie/Magisk, but SuperSu would be still more familiar to me.

No, you can't use twrp for a different device, and don't use SuperSU neither. It was sold by chainfire to a Chinese company years ago and have been basically abandoned since 2017. I'm pretty sure Magisk is the better choice on any device running android 5 - 9.

Hello,
The problem with the post you mentioned is that there is no valid twrp attached. And I noticed that only Odin detects the fastboot mode of this device. If you enable USB debugging let's say, the command "adb devices" will detect the device and list it; whereas, if you reboot it to bootloader mode(fastboot), the command fastboot devices doesn't detect the phone. So in fastboot mode, only Odin will detect the device. Meaning, that the post of fake and not tested.

Wael

That's weird. I do have the Bootloader unlock option in the developer settings and can do/undo it just fine. Looks like Samsung is using different Firmware versions on the A70?
In km looking to root, install twrp and flash aftermarket roms AMD custom kernels, but am extremely confused. I already bricked one sm-g960u. Now that I have my new phone, I don't want to screw this one up and have to go back to my S5.
My replacement came fully updated to latest android 10, no OEM unlock option in developers options. Phone is a sprint locked S9 on Boost Mobile. Not sure if it helps.
Any help would be awesome. I attached some pics of system info to better help anyone guide me correctly to my desired goal (or as close as I can get).
Thanks in advance for your time and any help provided.

You have a locked bootloader. If you want Roms and twrp you need a different device.
