So I'm coming from a jailbroken iPhone and am finding little on how to get modded Apps on android. I'm looking mainly for a YouTube app where I can download vids and play them with the screen turned off. Also maybe an Instagram with mods would be great. I used both instagram++ and youtube++ and loved them on iOS.
Any help pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure about Instagram since I don't use it, but YouTube vanced (download xda labs app (Google it) and find it in their app section) does the majority of what you want. Not sure if it lets you download, but I imagine it can?

Sweet! Is there any reason to use the regular xda app vs this xda labs app? Also it says to install MicroG to be able to sign into YouTube Vanced. Any help with that?
Edit: jk about the microG I figured it out! Thanks!

The regular xda app doesn't have their app store built in because Google doesn't allow other app stores in the play store. But xda labs does. Otherwise they're the same app, so o just use xda labs. Enjoy!

whenever I click a youtube link, whether its from facebook, or twitter, or anywhere else the link opens up the mobile web page instead of the native android app. this is strange to me. on both my two previous phones the mytouch 3g slide and samsung vibrant, a youtube link would immediately open up the app. This is not the case on our droid incredible 2's.
could this be a t-mobile vs Verizon thing? i don't see what benefit verizon could gain from preventing us from launching the app from a link though.
Thanks in advance for your help
Go to settings, applications, internet (if you're on sense Rom, browser if aosp) and clear defaults. Next time you try to open a you tube video it will ask you what you wanna open it with
Edit: it doesn't work. I checked permissions for you tube and they're the same as the browser' s. I re installed the app and still doesn't come up as an option.
"the relentless pursuit of the perfect ROM "
I've seen this behavior even on my CM7 Inc2. I have to scroll down to the bottom of the mobile page and hit "Desktop" which launches the YouTube app. Silly, if you ask me.
?
No matter what my YouTube app opens when I click a link.

I wish i knew what the problem was on my end then.
A little bit of insight....
I clicked a YouTube link from Google, the YouTube app played the video. I shared the link from the app to Facebook. I then clicked my own link in the Facebook app and the YouTube page came up, not the app.
So, Facebook, why aren't you opening YouTube links with our native app?

Maybe Facebook's use of https routing affects the phone's reaction to links and default openings. I doubt YouTube supports secure browsing like that, so the native app won't trigger when redirected out of a secured server.
Just speculation.
Hey, I am searching for an app with lets you play youtube videos in a popup window like locally stored videos on the SGS3... is there a "hack" for youtube App / TouchWiz so you can do this or an external app?
THanks

Grateful to know what's better? I'm always on the lookout, especially if it"s free to download. Couldn't find anything on the Playstore that reliably allowed playback of YouTube vids outside the YouTube app. I'm running a stock ICS rom, so would have to count out any apps that required a rooted device..
Is there a way or a good app for playing games such as skylander? Both the stock browser and chrome both say flashplayer is needed. Thanks

Check out this thread for the flash player APK.

Flash doesn't work on Chrome, also.
Beat me to it! But ya, pretty much what he said, but you can still use dolphin, firefox, opera and such. They have varying compatibility though.

Do I need to b rooted for that apk to work?
Nope! You just need to allow non-market apps to be installed.
And as said above, make sure you install a flash-enabled browser.

Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of the unofficial YouTube apps on the Play Store. The official YouTube app I use is terrible. Always buffering. Even on a strong wifi connection. YouTube through the browser works alright, but is less convenient. Anybody have any recommendations?

Ima register my interest here - since getting a tablet I've found i cannot watch HD vids due to buffering issues that don't exist in browser or on other devices using the same connection.
I never play strictly audio from YouTube as there are plenty of OTHER audio options I use on the M. When I'm on YouTube it's for videos. Heck the website works from my phone better than the app.

I know it's been a few months from the last response, but I feel like I should still reply in case you/someone else is still interested in a better Youtube app.
Viral HD Youtube Popup Player is the best Youtube app I've found for Android, far better than the official app. You can actually choose what quality video you want instead of HQ/HD and not HQ/HD, which is something about the official app that really annoys me. Also it doesn't shove recommended videos in your face when you start it, it instantly shows your subscriptions. The player interface also has much more usability (eg. changing the brightness/volume and being able to lock it) and it also has a neat feature to play the video in a popup window while you do other stuff (which isn't very useful in most situations really and you can disable it in the settings if you don't use it) or you can just have the video play in the background (which is really useful in case it's a podcast/music video).
It does have some bugs and missing features, which I'm sure will get fixed eventually, but in general the app looks really good and polished unlike most other unofficial Youtube apps.
(I was going to put a link to it in the Play store, but since I can't just search for Viral HD Youtube Popup Player and you'll find it)
PS. I've no idea if it fixes the buffering issue, I just had to share it since it's fairly difficult to stumble upon it in the Play store and it's just so good that it deserves far more than 100k downloads

Never been to big of a fan of Google photos. Don't know about anyone else but I think the layout is awful. I'm using this quickpic mod that I found today on here by wstxda. You can find the app here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/mod-gallery-quickpic-based-4-7-4-t3790425
I also don't use yt music for music that I have on my phone or at all. I have Spotify for streaming and I use Poweramp because I bought the pro version years ago. Found a nice free app that's almost as good I'd suggest called, Musicolet which you can find on the Google play store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.krosbits.musicolet
Figured I'd just leave you guys a couple suggestions for better apps that don't require root [emoji6]
