LG mobile is not updating to the latest version of Android 9 - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Is it possible to fix the problem of LG g3 cat6 to update from Android version 6 to Android version 9
Which is the latest Android version on 18 may 2019.
This is specially because pressing update button not working, and even enabled auto updates don't work.
How to fix this problem.
Best regards.

It's not a problem and nothing to fix. Marshmallow is/was the last for the G3. There was no Nougat and no Oreo. Why would you think there would be a Pie? The G3 is EOL, plain and simple.
My favorite device and daily driver but that's the reality.
Essential PH-1, /e/ 0.6-n ROM, microG (NoGapps), XDA Legacy

@plo6g9, I forgot to mention, so even though we never got any stock past Marshmallow there were a lot of custom ROMs to enjoy. Pie included. Not sure of your variant but you can check out the G3 Development threads and maybe others specific to your variant.

Cyanogenmod 13 o Stock Marshmallow?

Hello! I would like to install a version of the new Cyanogenmod 13, but I do not know that release install on my device, can you help me?
PS: Cyanogenmod 13 is better than Marshmallow stock? Thank you!
U think between CM13 vs. Android 6?
Android 6 comes from LG itself with all feature to your Phone. Everything work gently, smooth, its stable, exactly for this device.
Android 6 the last rollout, this is it.
Maybe Android N (i think) is no longer supportet by G3. In fact G3 has enough Power so that upcoming CM 14 work very well.
So long, be glad to become the major update to your Flagship

I've tried both on a LG G3 16Gb and in both, if you don't touch the kernel or anything else you will maybe encounter some slow-downs in games. I don't think I'm the only one who have performance issue.
Maybe 'cause it's too early to change. CM13 is not a snapshot version, just an automatic build and official MM is not completely launched everywhere. Personaly I think it's to early to change.
So if you Realy want to try, you have to now that in CM13 (for me) you will mainly miss the stock camera and the QuickCircle (the one with Xposed is not as well as the stock) if you don't have one so it's not a problems and finaly you'll have also performance issue.
And in the official MM you'll have a better interface than in LP (look like LG G4) but (for me) but again slow-down.

Cyanogenmod/LineageOS support

Now that google announced to stop updating the device in September this year, will Cyanogenmod/LineageOS stay working on this device? So we will still get android updates? And if yes, for how long do you think? Thanks in advance
Hi,
I think we will get android 8, but if not, dont worry, there are a bunch of costum roms will available. Example my Nexus 7 stopped on MM, but i use N 7.1.1 Lineage on the tablet. And there are a lots of other 7.1.1 rom available. So the 5x will be the same.
And also, the nexus 4 started with 4.2, stopped on 5.1.1 but there are 7.1.1 costum roms for that and they works fine. So dont worry about how long we will gets the latest android. I think at least to Android 10.

Alternate ROM and system updates

Hi,
I'm really considering buying a P2 to replace my good old 1st gen moto g. At 300 € here in France, it seems like a really good value.
The only things that could hold me back now are system updates and alternate ROM support. I've read on Reddit that as the phone is only available in some parts of Asia and Europe, the developers community could not be that big. So two small questions :
I've read that the nougat update has just been made available. Is there a Lenovo commitment for Android O, too ? Are there regular security updates since the phone is out ?
Speaking of alternate ROM, if I understand correctly there's currently a LineageOS 14.1 basis that works well beside fingerprint reader and notification LED ? Do you know if there is a chance that the P2 could become an officially supported device for lineageOS ?
Thanks for your answer and all your contributions.
They barely released Nougat 7.0 and you're asking for Oreo? Even flagships like S8 will eventually get Android 8 in Q1 2018 given that Google will release the new OS version in Q3 2017. No regular security updates, till Nougat the phone was on MM with Oct 2016 security patch. Hell you can buy other phone till you're waiting for O. IMO Lenovo won't update P2 to Oreo, as at that time the new P3 should be already out and they'll focus on it and forget about the P2. No word for adding official support for Lineage OS, but that doesn't matter as the unofficial builds are working just fine.
Lenovo giving android O ?? only in dreams
but we have Good developers, and if you are looking official - then AICP is there, Lineage we dont have any info on it as our bro said in above post
if you have managed to use MotoG this many years you would like P2 very much and use longer, Only satisfactory thing in this P2 is BATTERY , other than that SAMSUNGS are better ;(
hate to praise samsungs in this forum but they are better if you have good money ..

What's the point of rooting this phone other than using lucky patcher o just can't see it.
What are your essential root apps.

First and most important possibility of Ad blocking - which saves your: time bandwidth and money.
There are some other apps which work only with root but this is beyond this discussion.

I need root for many things. On MM for Xposed, Titanium Backup, Kernel Auditor, DualBoot Patcher, Adblock and more. On Nougat the same arguments without Xposed.

Still on stock android 5!

So my wife’s lg g3 still running stock android 5. She complains on bad battery life. I replaced the battery but I think it is the rom. Before I factory reset it,
Any new faster battery friendly recommend rom?
Thanks
Is the ROM rooted? If so you could run a utility like Better Battery Stats to determine what's draining battery while asleep. Stock ROMs usually have a bunch of stuff running that can suck down the battery. Some unneeded items can probably be turned off or controlled in some way.
If she prefers stock you could probably update to Marshmallow which may or may not be better as far as battery. There are some custom stock ROMs based on MM like Fulmics and Clean ROM. The latter still maintained/supported I believe. It's leaner with less cruft than standard stock.
As far as AOSP/CM/LOS ROMs go there's a lot to choose from. From Lollipop up to current Pie. I wouldn't know what to recommend. I run old stuff but there's no support so Oreo or Pie would be the choice as far as dev support. Maybe Nougat, too.
I'm sure other users will have some good recommendations.
Oh, and don't forget to specify your G3 variant.
LG G3 D851, AOSPA-L ROM, Nebula Rev9.3 Kernel, microG (NoGapps), MultiROM, XDA Legacy
All stock d855
Update
So the phone has no root and I see that the OS and the kernel is taking a lot of battery.
Any suggestions for fast and battery friendly ROM?

Since the phone is not rooted you'll have to tackle that first before looking at any ROMs. Could be wrong but I think the D855 has a locked bootloader. If so it's gotta be unlocked, get TWRP recovery installed, and rooted.
Over the years I've only followed the general and T-Mobile (D851) G3 threads so I'm not sure exactly of what methods to use on your phone.
LG G3 D851, Mahdi v2.9 ROM (4.4.4), microG (NoGApps), MultiROM, XDA Legacy
I can install kingsroot and after that autorec and then twrp
Question is: what best rom do you recommend?
Pie or 15.1?

I have not tried Pie on any device since I multiboot. Due to hardware issues (failed sdcard slot) on my previous G3 I only recently tried Oreo, crDroid 4.6 and Liquid Remix 9.1.3. I am way late to the Oreo and Pie party so I can't recommend anything.
Check the G3 Development subforum and see what folks are saying about the various ROMs.

Thanks but there are so many...
I would probably install lineageos 16 and see.
I will update when done

Stable Custom ROM for XT1952-1?

Hi,
I'm a beginner to installing custom ROMs so forgive me if I'm asking dumb questions.
I'm thinking of buying a used G7 play and would like to install a custom ROM on it. It is the XT1952-1 version and I can't seem to find much information on running custom ROMs on it. The LineageOS page only lists XT1952-2 and -3 as supported models.
Is there a stable custom ROM I could use on this device as a daily driver where everything is working (including VoLTE and fingerprint sensor) and I will get security updates?
Thanks a lot in advance,
Tobias
I am also interested, because I have got an XT1952-1 phone which gets no system updates anymore. :/
I've got an XT1952-3 (US version) with Lineage 18.1 and it's fully stable, way smoother than with the stock firmware. It still receives system updates, despite the Motorola security updates are stuck at some mid-2021 version.
