Can't restore my TWRP backup - OnePlus 5T Questions & Answers

Currentrly using twrp by codeworkxx 190427 version and on 9.0.5 firmware base.
Backing up has no problem, but everytime I try to restore data, twrp just gives me error 255.
I've searched google and found some soultions (eg. deleting user-999, which I don't use multi user and disabling screen lock) but nothing worked.
Also tried different twrp (blu_spark and twrp official) but still same error occurs.
Is there any solution?

[Q] Error Restoring Nandroid

Ok so I am currently running the newest version of MIUI. I just got it a few hours ago and I want to go back to my old ROM (codename android) to back up all of my apps to titanium backup. I make 2 nandroid backups before I installed MIUI. Every time I go into clockworkmod and try to restore one of the backups. I get an error saying "error while restoring /system." Is there anything that I am doing wrong? I tried wiping data/cache/dalvik and then installing the ROM, but I get an error saying "some symlinks failed." Any help with this? I need all of my apps back.
Titanium will allow you to restore apps from a nandroid backup. You could also pull them out yourself -- the nandroid script stores them in a tarball.

Just redownload it and flash it, no? After that you can use TB to extract your apps, or you could even just restore /data in CWM -- if I remember correctly, it should allow you to restore each partition individually. So if you are having problems restore the nandroid as a whole (because it fails on /system) just restore /data and /boot.

[Q] Nandroid backup not restoring

So i exchanged my phone out today but I kept a backup of the nandroid backup on my computer. After placing it back on the phone it says "error restoring /system", then stops. I have two other older images and they both say "error restoring /data" and stop. Anyone know how I can fix this?
I am wiping data/cache/dalvik before performing this
EDIT: now it seems I cant get my phone to boot up anymore. It just get's stuck on the galaxy note II screen. This was done with a brand new phone.

[Q] Cannot install from zip

Hi,
I have a problem. i currently have Codename ROM and I tried to flash new clock app from 4.2. I kept doing force close, so I wanted to restore my backup and it does not work - it says "MD5 mismatch", I cannot even make another backup, it looks like recover reboots. When I wanted to flash Codename again it said to me "Installation aborted, symlink: some symlinks failed (status 7)". Any idea how to get it all back to work?
Thank you!
EDIT: Great! Now I cannot even boot the system.

Do you have a working Nandroid on your computer that you can push back into your phone and then restore (after wiping and formatting everything)?

I managed to flash Codename ROM again but it seems that my recovery has problem with backuping and restoring. In fact my backups has around 25MB. It is a problem with backing up. I found this thread but I absolutely don't understand how to fix it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=714114

this has been covered in several threads.
the newer version of CWM (6.x +) create BLOBS and use a combination of BLOBS and your backup data to perform backups and restores.
if you deleted the BLOB folder from clockworkmod directory, that would be your problem. stating that you think the reason your backups are broken because of the filesize is just plain wrong.
also, md5 mismatch usually has to do with having invalid spaces or characters in the backup name.

In fact I do not know what BLOB folder is so I suppose I did not delete it. i did not even give my names to the backups. Sooo... what shall I do? I mean, I have wiped out the ROM and now getting everything back from scratch but I think I won't be able to make backups Thanks
Try the non touch versions of cwm or twrp.

[Q] Can't restore /data after 4.3 update

Hello!
I'm in a bit of panic. Since Google pushes their stuff over OTA and my custom rom PAC somehow didn't deal with that correctly, it caused to use all my data, so I wanted to give stock 4.3 a try.
Rebooted into CWM, made a backup of my current ROM, free unused backup data, did a factory reset like always and flashed the 4.3 image. Wasn't happy at all with stock 4.3 so I wanted to go back. To my horror, restoring that image failed. Error while restoring /data!. I tried booting up anyway, maybe only a few settings were lost, but it started like the first time I flashed the ROM with the gapps log-in thing and all my apps are gone.
I tried getting back in CWM, manually restored /data, but that didn't work either. It starts restoring /data but then halfway through it stops with the error.
Previous backups (AOKP/CM/PAC) didn't restore /data either.
Installing Nandroid Manager to restore individual apps to a fresh ROM fails too. It sees all apps but it can't restore anything at all.
I have come to the discovery that apps won't even install. Apps manually extracted from the backups are 0kb and I can't seem to install some apps from the Play Store either. Unknown error code during application install: "-24"
Does 4.3 change anything about where the /data partition is? Or what happened?
What's the problem and can I even restore the data? Or do I have to start over?

have the same story with galaxy note 2..
Flash backwards first
not an expert here, but isnt the general protocol to try to flash back to the same version of the os first (i.e 4.2.2), and then try the CWM restore?
Are you able to try to track down the same os version you had before?
Have the same issue with my i717
