So after some digging around i find there are two options
- Rooting
- unlocking.
As i understand it, rooting should not need any permissions from LG?

Right. If root were available, say via KingRoot, it would not involve any interaction or permission from LG. Regardless, as far as I know there's still no root available.
After sitting in the box for a long time I finally gifted it to someone. Just can't use a device that can't be unlocked or rooted.
ZTE Axon 7 A2017U, AospExtended v4.6 ROM, Radioactive v2.4 Kernel, microG (NoGapps), Multiboot, XDA Legacy
What about for earlier ROMS?
Not sure about the Q7. I had the Q7+ which is locked down and not rootable. I assume that's the case for the Q7, too.
LG G3 D851, Clean ROM v3.2, NanoDroid (microG), MultiROM, XDA Legacy

The T-Mobile US version comes unlocked. No one knows yet whether the other G3 versions will be able to be unlocked. The G2 was never unlocked but a work around where you could install custom Roms and kernels was eventually found. Its very much wait and see.

Looked at many forums that people opened about 1-2 months ago. It seems like very very difficult to unlock it. I have much respect developers whichones tries to unlock it. Hope they can be successful on this. I'm glad to have stock rom this is very smooth i can admit it not like laggy touchwiz. But want to give a try to CM or PA or any AOSP ROM's like this, because back in time i was used AOSP based rom on my S III I9300 and loved it. Only reason that i want AOSP ROM is i think im loving pure Android it gives me ultra-smooth performance and simple UI.
The Verizon and AT&T threads have a bounty over $5700 and it looks like a few devs are close to having a solution.

Locked bootloader is like hot beer. Seems and tastes awfully. I wish companies sends their flagships with unlocked bootloader like T-Mobile did. Without custom recovery we're not able to even do a simple tweak (The tweaks who requires recovery such as modified frameworks and SystemUI's) Otherwise there is another option G3 Tweaksbox. But it shows very limited options if you're poor to buy it.

HMMMM well ill have a look at what i can do tomorrow. Maybe i can find a small window here. I almost want to say that the abswer would be to adjust the bootloader to simply allow multi boot possibilities with partitions (at least in my mind that would be pretty cute).
I dont even really want the money. I just want to be able to do what i need to do. Multi OS's on one device.

Hehe ive also bricked this baby a few times now but lg has a cool restore tool that fixes all the issues.
Why cant we just copy the unlocked bootloader and overwrite the locked bootloader?
But nontheless. Maybe ill end upnrewriting a boot loader to work. But that might take some more time.

So you can say, i tried to modifiying build prop and ended with softbricking but so i got nandroid which is nice to me. Me neither. On my Note 3 i was tweaking build prop without any problem i've even enabled softkeys (I wondered a bit about how it will look etc.) But not gonna touch until this thing unlocks fully. Using stock rom & root with bloatware removed. With helper programs such as Greenify+Coolify. It's like science it's all about develop, try, fail, develop (or fix/debug),try, fail, develop try, success. It's alla about to hardwork and i appreciate all the efforts that developers given on this topic.

Variants have different bootloaders. So we cannot do a copy/paste on it. If it works like this the devices will be unlocked in 10 min. I almost softbricked too but won against my wonder and didn't touched anything. It now works good. I love G3 even its bootloader locked lol

Sounds good in theory, but FlashFire will ask for root privileges to do it's work. Thus you will need root to run FlashFire.

Maybe, try it and let us know. I wouldn't do it on a model that didn't have a KDZ available though.

Many of the H815 have bootloader unlock available now, so some development should appear soon. I'm concerned that the two Nexus phones and possible G4 pro being released will cause people to forget about the G4.
Not many just some and with loss of warranty its hard to just unlock. Even exynos phones see more development than this. If LG can remove loss of warranty probably it will jumpstart the development as more people will not be scared of losing their warranty. They also need to release a unlocked bootloader for all variants. Even rooting is a nightmare when looking at the steps needed

Hello Verizon V30 Users,
I am providing the full KDZ file for the Verizon V30 software version 10C, the latest available for the VS996.
You can download it from HERE!
Coming from the V10, I've noticed the KDZ for the Verizon V30 is almost 3.5 GB, compared to just over 2 GB with the V10.
>> NEW DLL FILE REQUIRED TO FLASH!! <<
You must use LGUP to flash this. If you haven't upgraded your DLL file for LGUP, inside this same archive, you'll find a dll file named LGUP_Common.dll. Place that DLL file in C:\Program Files (x86)\LG Electronics\LGUP\model\common. Just as a precaution, change the extension of the existing LGUP_Common.dll to .bak or something in case this doesn't work for you. After you put the new DLL file in that folder, open LGUP and in the very lower left hand corner of the window, you should see DLL Version 1.0.31.9.
Enjoy! If anyone has any questions, feel free to hit me up!

There are rumors someone cracked the bootloader and rooted a Verizon LG G6, but for their own reason chose not to publish the method. Knowing the person who told me, I have no reason to doubt it. But, no, I don't know how they did it, as I am not a dev.
This of course leads to a bunch of questions. Is it possible some of the 2017 LG flagship (G6, V30) carrier models have ADB flash commands if you can get past the bootloader? We know the T-mobile LG G6 and LG V30 do not, because the bootloader is easily unlocked and they are ADB crippled. We just assumed all the other carrier modes were the same way, because no one has cracked the bootloader and published the results.
Or this person cracked the bootloader and found some other way to root. They didn't go any further than that, but they did unlock the bootloader and root a Verizon LG G6.

That link above discusses it more, but other than that I'm not interested in "proving" anything. I'm not the dev, and he can release what he wants to release. I encourage everyone to buy the "open market" version of the LG V30. That will have guaranteed root, TWRP, ROMs, kernels, etc.
If you want to read where I got it from, read back through my posts. It was discussed in open thread about three weeks ago.
The only reason I'm mentioning it here is it might be relevant to the LG V30, to let people know a carrier branded LG G6 was bootloader unlocked and rooted. If one person can do it, others can.

Dirty Santa exploit cracked the bootloader of the V20 (December 2016). And here (June 2017).
DirtySanta Exploit Unlocks the Bootloader of the LG V20 H990 -- XDA article, June 2017
And the 2016 V20 still had all the ADB flash commands. So, once past the bootloader, you had free reign. That has changed with the 2017 LG flagships, where LG has removed most of the ADB flash commands.
Even this LG V20 method, in a thread started END of August 2017 has as a first step -- RUN Dirty Santa! Even though Dirty Santa/Dirty Cow exploit was now patched, you can swap out modules in the phone, so it will then still run. So, I do not know of any LG V20 that were rooted where the bootloader was not first unlocked -- even if you are replacing out modules with "Engineering" modules or whatever to allow Dirty Santa to still run. If you have other information to the contrary, I would be interested in hearing it.
Now back during the LG G2 and LG G3 era you could root and install TWRP without unlocking the bootloader, but that was back when signed packages were not required.

I'm not a developer, but I research a lot and I have knowledgeable people tell me stuff.
I keep up with LG phones, and I know V20 bootloader was unlocked by Dirty Santa exploit. Which was why I corrected the misinformation that the V20 was rooted without unlocking the bootloader.
Maybe there's another method of rooting V20 of which I'm unaware, but in V20 forum all I see are the links I posted above - which all involve unlocking the bootloader.
But the v30 is too new to have a dirty santa version anyway. And no adb commands.
Unless this makes it on to the lg list for unlocking I dont think it will happen.

It's up to you, your phone.
If you do really want a root access without losing warranty or bootloader unlock counter goes up. There are plenty virtualization apps which emulates root access, or even xposed system without altering your actual system. I saw on YouTube, someone using that to cheat pubg mobile. Before mid-2018 only those V30 variants (H930, H930G, secretly Open Market US998 -- but only the 64GB variant) approved by LG could have bootloader unlock code and thus root, but thanks to people here on XDA, ALL V30 can have root. We don't need some "fake" gimmick like this. Maybe for other phones something like this is OK, but all V30 variants can actually be bootloader unlocked and rooted.
For everyone who doesn't know,
Root Sticky, post #1.
