out of curiosity,
is there no ported android 5 (L) coming or is available for the m8?
Not yet. I wouldn't get you hopes up too high for it coming any time soon, it might be a while. Once full source is released we might see partially functioning aosp based versions pour in. Other than that, I'd say cm and other aosp roms have got a long way to go. Same story with sense. But no one knows for sure what google and HTCs plans are so I'm just speaking based off of speculation and past experiences. Expect many "L" themes though

just give HTC about 90 days from source release and we will get official Android L :victory:
assuming L comes in November with the new Nexus, then given the 90 day guarantee from HTC, expect an official OTA by February. they lived up to their promise for the M7 owners this year for 4.4 kitkat.
I hope not, because I just upgraded my 72 year old mother from a Nexus 5 to a OnePlus 3. Well, it's on the way.
I may not modify anything on the phone. However, I do have a question: Does OnePlus update their phones to the latest versions of Android often, regularly, or will she be lucky to see updates at all?
Thanks!

They are generally quite good regarding monthly security updates.
Regarding new android versions, it's not exactly the same. Oh, they will definitely update the OP3 to Android Nougat. Android O won't be out and you'll already have Nougat on your phone ! Amazing ! So fast !
Oneplus are certainly not the best regarding updates but they are probably not the worst.
Don't expect fast updates like Nexus.
Monthly updates are nice, if there're bugs , you may get 2-3 update per month. You surely get the Android N update, but with my experiences with OP1 and 2, you will have to wait 3-4 months after nexus, simply because you are running on a custom android- Oxygen( quite nice now) so they are worth waiting.
and remember you always have HUGE deverlop community here, OP forum &chinese forums( which you could have strange ROMs port ) , so dont afraid ,

The OP3 is a shift for them. I think they're potentially going to change the game up on their whole paradigm simply based on the success of this phone. The public and media seem to be pretty fond of the OP3 at present, and Oneplus will need to maintain that momentum and keep their client base happy. If they're smart, they'll push Android M no later than Q4 of this year.
Does any one know when will this latest flagship from asus is about to get Android P.
As the direct compiters of this device is far ahead of the game in providing updates(but with my exp of using this device couple of days it's Sw is pretty stable).
As a android user I will be always eager to use latest updates from Google and see how the performance and innovation is getting improved.
My past exp with using custom roms is very bad and my openion in custom roms is full of bugs and instability.
Instead the device maifacturer has the competency to build and test the rom which is reliable enough. So depending on the OEM is far better. This is just my openion but unfortunately OEM's are not dependable and greedy these days due to completion and other things in market.
Bottom line when is the Android P expected to this device. Or in your openion should I shift to a good supplier who provides faster updates.
Thanks.

Thanks for replying.
Let me think. I am a bit worried as I have a latest flagship from asus but running 8.0 still
Anyway thanks.
Why are people so hung up on the getting the newest update immediately? There are usually bugs that need to be worked out, such as the Android P fast charging bug.
I'd rather get it a little later after it's smoothed out.
I'm expecting it at end of Q4/18.

This is not a flagship from asus point of view. They treat ROG series as one

Dude calm down. My LG V20 still has Android 7.0
1. Title says it. How are updates for this phone? Phone was released in Q4 2018. How many updates did you receive so far?
2. What is The current security patch?
3. Are there any noticeable bugs? Has the auto-brightness bug been fixed?
4. Which variant do you have? Global or Chinese?
5. Does Google Pay work?
1 - Updates are ok, usually they release an update/month i could say...
2 - I'm on security patch v. 195 and i won't update to 198 for now... battery issues has been reported regarding the 198 Update...
3 - I can tell you one of the bugs i notice... the square virtual button ( from all 3 on-screen buttons ) dissapear in some apps and i have to get back to Home Screen to have it again on-screen... Auto Brightness keep activating after every restart of the phone...
4 - I have 2 Mate 20 X Units, both of them AL-00, i choose AL-00 since several people have been saying they are much more stable compared to International Version...
5 - I don't use any of the Google Services, except PlayStore and Youtube... So for me, there is no point in buying International Version of any phone, since i don't use G Voice, G Pay, G Mail, Google Search, G Assistant etc...
Cheers

I have the L29. Updates for the global versions are still abysmal but better than they used to be. Every new EMUI release fixes a few bugs but brings a few more. It almost seems like the head EMUI team are a bunch of thirteen year olds with not a lot of common sense. A few bugs that I see:
-Notifications on the Always on Display are pretty much non existent (in 2019 that's just not acceptable)
-Set the DPI (Minimum Width) setting in developer options and it resets after every reboot (stupid)
-After a reboot auto brightness turns itself back on. This should be a simple fix right?
-The whole interface needs an update as it looks like the interface from Android Honeycomb, the pulldown toggles and interface are awful in 2019. Why not just have a stock like interface with the rounded toggles?
-After an update is approved it sometimes takes weeks to get it
-Notifications that you can normally turn off in settings for some reason on EMUI they don't work or the options were just removed
The actual hardware is second to none but the phone really needs an AOSP custom ROM or Lineage. Imagine if we could run something like Pure Nexus on the 20 X? I think then it would be the perfect phone but EMUI definitely holds it back. For me the hardware is so good that I can kind of live with these annoying bugs but if they aren't fixed in the next EMUI release then this will be probably be my last Huawei device. Then I still have to hope that another manufacturer has the balls to release a device with a large screen like the 20 X.

Mate 20 X holds a monopoly in terms of 7-inch screen flagship.
Wish there was at least an Android One device with this screen size. Or from a manufacturer who doesn't block custom ROMs.
Only next large phone to look forward to is the Mi Max 4 but that's a mid-range with sub-par screen...
A 7-inch Pixel would be bomb.

A 7 inch OnePlus device would be great too.
The international version lacks updates tbh, I'm stuck on 184 still
For me those small bugs doesn't matter.
I love this phone and i dont care small updates, works great for me really.
But still strange they cant fix some minor fail... But like it a lot... Still
1- 1 update since December (.184)
2- 1 January 2019
3- I get a 'ghost' vibration/notification from time to time, still haven't figured out what causes it (app or OS). No big deal.
4- European (C432)
5- Yes

With the bezels disappearing I honestly think the world is ready for a 7.3''-7.5'' screened phone.
They should have 2 versions, a 7'' MAX and a 7.5" MAX+.
This phone is the best I ever saw and had, but lack of updates for C636 is annoying

What is the C636?
Do they update it by according where you live or which version of phone you have? Like UK, Global, CH, HK and so on.
C636 is the international version, they update AL00 which is Chinese version and C636, regardless of your area.
I have the C432 (UK version, unlocked) running 9.0.0.172 (December 2018 Security Patches) and I've received no updates for the phone at all.
Checking for OTA updates and via HiSuite - both report back that the software is up to date.

Same for me in the UK too. Bought an EVR-L29 from Currys yesterday and was disappointed to find out that it didn't come with the M-Pen and flip case like a lot of other retailers in the UK do, and then it seems to be stuck on release .172 when I have been reading about .195 upgrades being available for quite some time.
I keep checking the software update and HiSuite in the hope that it will eventually trigger an update, but I am disappointed considering it was not a network branded phone.
Fingers crossed for an update soon.

I have ordered the phone from Clove UK so I assume I should also expect no updates. VERY disappointed to hear that and exactly the thing i was afraid about since my Mate 9 received only ONE update in 2 years (was Asia version i think as it is 636)

EVR L29 here. The only update I had was when I first booted up the phone when I bought it over 2 months ago, but had no updates since. I'm on 172. Huawei needs to up their game, the software is so buggy compared to the Samsung's I had previously.

I have two EVR L29 c636 phones. Both updated to 187 a few weeks ago and then one updated to 192 last week. Why only one got the most recent update is beyond me. When I plug them into my desktop computer HiSuite says they are both running the most recent firmware.
Hi all,
I'm thinking buying Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro and wondering if it still a good phone, since Mi 11 came out today. this would be my first Xiaomi phone so hoping there are stable ROMs around (recommendation welcome!) which let you use all the phone's features and helps remove all those annoying ads. My usage is pretty light weight generally but I'm gonna go for the 8 gig RAM.
Should I still go for this phone? Anything else to keep in mind? any to watch out for? I'm still go thru all the threads/comments but feel free to reply since I wanna buy and root asap
Also how long does Xiaomi release OS updates and security patches for and does it actively block rooting like OPPO?
Cheers in advance!
What comes on your phone depends on the version. The global version I have has had no ads at all and no annoying pre-installed apps. It did aggressively close apps at first, but that seems to have settled down so I don't notice it any more. The most annoying thing: on Android 10 gestures worked with any launcher. Now with Android 11 gestures are only available with the stock launcher - and Xiaomi.EU still has this problem as it's based on MIUI.
There are only just custom roms appearing, mostly on Telegram. Don't know why it's taken this long. Rooting is possible once you've unlocked your bootloader, which you have to request from Xiaomi and usually have to wait something like 6-20 days. Whether you can still pass safetynet and allow banking apps seems a bit variable.
I'm very happy with the phone otherwise. The global version is a bit slower getting updates than CN or EU. Global just got Android 11 about a a week ago.
There's no ads in global and eea version. Unlocking is not blocked, you just have to wait 168 hours like for almost every other xiaomi phone. There are stable roms (pe, fluid, evox), but development seems slow because only few people know what they're doing, others just kang stuff...
As for xiaomi updates, it should cover at least 1 more year of updates, but you'll never know with them...
Only thing that matters is that camera isnt that great. It's good, don't get me wrong, just not exceptional which I expected at that price range... Gcam fixes a lot, though...

So, I bought the phone and loving it! I'm on currently on MIUI Global 12.0.5 and have an update to update to MIUI V12.1.1.0.RJDINXM, should I update to this ? I don't want my gestures to stop working since the 'what's new' says 'Stable MIUI based on Android 11' or is it just a UI update and nothing to do with bases OS. I'm currently on Android 11.
Cheers!

Cheers mate! I do like MIUI overall, I don't see any ads but i did revoke authorization for msa so unsure it's cause of that. my current versions is MIUI Global 12.0.5.
I love the fact I can game of it without zero lag!
thanks for helping me buying an awesome phone!

Well I did it cause I got trigger happy, so on android 11 and MIUI V12.1.1.0.RJDINXM - noticed some lag/lock screen freezing issues occuring randomly, nothing too bad. I think with my limited knowledge it's the launcher ****ing it up! but I could be wrong.
