Issues with LineageOS 15.1 - Moto G5 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I just installed LineageOS 15.1 on my Moto G5 XT1677. While my phone boots up fine, I am having an issue with the camera. It works in the camera app and in Whatsapp, I can use the cam in the messaging area. However, if I open the Whatsapp web section to scan the QR code, the image display is extremely slow and I am never able to get it to scan the code. Is this a known issue and if so, is there a fix for it? Please help as I didn't have this problem in OS 14.
Another issue I noticed which isn't a major problem is that once the location is enabled, the icon in the status bar doesn't go away even after the location is disabled.
Also did the location feature change in any way between 14 and 15.1? I was using a cab hailing app that used to work fine in 14 but in 15.1, it fails with an error that it is unable to access the location even though it is enabled. Any clarification on this would be welcome.
Thanks a lot and let me know if you need any more information.

Even there are some workarounds for the camera in Oreo and Pie CustomROMs, I don't think it will be ever fully fixed (mostly due to the missing blobs).
In the WhatsApp, use the split screen mode to scan the QR code.
Idk about your location issues as location was always working fine for me. However, did you set your location settings to "High accuracy"?

Hey, thanks so much for responding. So is this a known problem with the camera? Is this because 15.1 is 64 bit instead of 32 bit or is it because of something else? I'd really like to know. Would upgrading to 16 fix the problem or would it still persist?
As for the location, I tried both modes, battery saving and high accuracy. Neither of them worked. Coupled with the camera issue, I think the only real fix might be to go back to 14.1

Mostly yes. Every CustomROM for Moto G5 based on Android 8.0+ is 64bit, while the StockROM is still 32bit only (both stock Nougat and stock Oreo).

Camera? Nope. There are still some workarounds for the camera in Pie CustomROMs though (e.g. this one https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/themes/perfect-gcam-5-1-moto-g5-cedric-t3890519).
Location? I can't tell, sorry.

Location inaccurate despite 10+ satellite locks

Hello friends,
since June 19th I'm having severe issues with location accuracy on my OP3. I'm running the most recent sultan Lineage 14.1 build from June 15th, flashed it on June 17th. On 17th and 18th location was fine, since then it became inaccurate (I'm a daily ingress player). I did not make any changes to phone settings or setup between flashing the rom and the location service going bad. Then I went through different firmware files from https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/radio-modem-collection-flashable-zips-t3468628 (Open Beta 16 through 18, 4.1.6 builds) without any improvement. Also cleared cache, reverted to the previous sultan build, all to no avail.
I have all possible location services enabled and I'm outside, consistently maintaining a lock with about 6 to 8 GPS satellites and 2 to 4 GLONASS satellites according to "GPS Status and Toolbox" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=de). I tried re-downloading aGPS data through that app as well as re-calibrating everything it allowed me to but even then and with those 10+ satellites, I'm seeing location error of +-70m or even more. Also, I'm moving around in an area with buildings not higher than 2 floors or even in small parks.
In Ingress, I'm drifting from one side of the street to the other, wrongly going into side alleys, not moving at all for several minutes, and so on. Before June 19th I could effortlessly navigate through the game with pretty much perfect accuracy, now I have problems accessing portals I'm standing on top of for 2+ minutes.
I'll attach some screenshots of GPS Status app from today. You can see errors of 30+ and 70+ meters with 14 satellites available. When taking those screenshots, Ingress was basically unplayable. I'd be grateful for any input on how to tackle this issue.
Does the same thing happens if you use the previous build? If the answer is yes, then there's something wrong with the June 15th build.
You can also try with the latest OxygenOS stable or official LineageOS to see if it's a ROM or hardware problem.
Download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&hl=de and then go to the 3 Dots> AGPS > Clear and update
Thank you both for your input!

I reverted to the previous build but the issue remains. I plan on eventually trying OxygenOS if I can't find another solution. This will have to wait until next week though. Not enough spare time right now.

I think that's the same thing that "GPS Status and Toolbox" does. Still, I'll give it a shot and test during lunch break.

As I've been living and playing in the area for years, I doubt this issue is about external influences

The app you recommended doesn't seem to be able to change the gps.conf file on my phone. I made the NTP server change manually, though. Sadly, I can't see any improvement.
I just don't get what's wrong. It has to be something about my phone or how it processes the data. I know that GPS has some leeway, but I have a lock 12 satellites and only 70m accuracy. I can't comprehend how this is even possible. :crying:

--> You must be to root. This soft modify without error my 'gps.conf'.
Despite an improvement, I remain decadent of the quality of the GPS. I do Geocaching and I can not rely 100% on my position (20M Margin with 20/25 Sat).
Here is a link from the ONEPLUS forum that talks about this: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/fix-the-horrible-gps.465819/
OOS 4.1.5 Beta have good result with GPS: http://downloads.oneplus.net/oneplus-3/oneplus_3_oxygenos_openbeta_15/
EDIT : I Forgot --> test to activate only hardware GPS without WIFI, BT, data.... Only GPS --> Go to setting - location.

The beter isue is to modify the GPS.Conf manualy, and fastergps make this change automaticaly just selecting continent and land.
I have the same issue with beta18.
If I select location only by gps it works perfect, but if I select high precision (wifi+network+gps) it see satellites but never get a fix.

Yes, same problem. I use only GPS and work good.
Interesting, I have been having the exact same problem and first noticed it with Ingress. Using a OnePlus 3T running open beta 18 Will try changing GPS mode to device only and see how that goes. I'm sure this only started a week or two ago, it worked well for a while after flashing open beta 18.
Sorry for abandoing my thread for so long. Been on vacation. While on the highway, GPS suddenly died completely, had to take a break to reboot the phone.
After that, I reflashed opengapps because I was bored one evening. Like two days later, it felt like it improved a bit. Playing ingress got easier again, but it's still... "wonky" up to this day, which it wasn't before.
I'll try GPS only mode asap.
i was on AOSPA 7.2 when this issue started, switched over to OOS beta 19 (freedomOS), and now updated to OOS beta 20 (freedomOS), and still this issue persists.
already tried clearing AGPS data once, has anyone figured out a permanent fix?
+1
ALL other GPS apps work.
Just Ingress is fussy.
P.S. Seems like Ingress has a slalom algorithm that manages to navigate around portals and avoiding them for hacks/capture...
Waze, Google Maps, etc. - are SMACK on location.
I'd like Ingress to constantly update it's location, even when screen is off.
Plus, force-keep internet connection alive.

Web whatsapp

Weird that I somehow can't seem to sign in to web whatsapp... No issue on my previous phone.
Setup my Honor8Pro today and got whatsapp running on the phone. Then tried web whatsapp... it just can't seem to scan the QR code. Anyone else having this issue?
Yes got that in my 8 Pro too
It may be because of your internet connection or may be some issue in your phone. But I am not sure about this.

are you still having this issue?
I somehow managed to get web whatsapp working on one laptop. will try on another laptop tmrw.
someone mentioned to me that it could be due to my earlier whatsapp installation. the friend suggested delete all web whatsapp instances from the earlier whatsapp before I setup on new device.
kinda late advice, I feel, since I'd already setup on new device (the Honor8Pro).. lolz..
from another forum, i can see that there are also users complaining that it's quite difficult to setup web whatsapp session. i had to try many, many times... i think like close to 20 - 30mins, over a few days... what worked for me was to use the phone in landscape mode. so, if anyone having issues, do consider this. i think it's probably a camera implementation issue.
Same issue here I grilled the support guy to get this issue to technical team cause its clearly a camera issue. The image is compressed from the sides maybe that's why whatsapp couldn't detect it. The support guy was adment that the problem will be solved if I reset the phone, finally gave him 2 screenshot and told him to send them to technical team. Lets hope they see may chat.
I got mine to work by turn the phone on its head!
Its very quirky, but the camera in whatsapp relies on the display dpi/size on our screen
I mange to login mine by changing the DPI
1. Go to Developer Option (Settings > Tap 7 Times on Build Number to enable Developer Option)
2. Change the Smallest Width from 411 dp to 350 dp (350 works for me, try bigger or smaller value)
3. Switch to whatsapp and scan the QR code
4. Switch back to settings and change it back to 411
Hope this works for you guys as well

Android Auto work ok for you?

Got a 2017 VW and my old Xiaomi Mi Mix worked great with android auto being displayed on the dash.
I'm currently sitting on the 8.8.9 chinese miui 10 beta rom on the Mi Max 3 and I can't seem to get android auto to sync to the car.
Anyone else run into this?

I always remove Android auto, Google, music apps, Google Maps etc from any battery saving restrictions in the settings and set them to have auto start permissions too.

I'm guessing Xiaomi.eu must do something different with gapps then as Android pay also works with EU ROMs when it's based on Chinese miui which normally doesn't support that.
All I can tell you is that on this ROM Android Auto is working perfectly. It also did on my old mi mix 2 also running the EU ROM.

I can't get it working consistently on any of the EU roms newer than 8.8.9. I have filed a bug report for it in the standard MIUI forum, if it gets fixed there it should then get fixed in EU.
What you guys can do is register for the MIUI bug forum and then you can Confirm my bug report. The more people that Confirm it the more attention it is going to get so it gets fixed..

I have done joined your bug reporting. I hope more people voice their concerns on this topic.
Just to add some info to this... I am on MIUI 9 Global rom 9.6.8.0. I can get Android Auto to work by toggling the USB debugging in Developer settings. It doesn't seem to matter if its on or off, I just have to toggle it and android auto fires right up and connects to the car.
Very weird indeed, there is still some work needed to be done with these roms and Android Auto it seems.
Potential AA solution for Mi Max 3
Hi all - I've just signed up to post this reply, which I hope is helpful to someone at least.
Similar to a number of you, I have struggled to get AA working on the Max 3 (I received my Max 3 last week and it is updated to MIUI 10 Global Stable).
I profess to having no coding/coder/engineering background, but I have solved - with consistency - the lack of compatibility on my Skoda Superb (VAG unit). Where other phones are fine, this wasn't playing nicely.
Essentially, the car would see the phone, but when pressing one of the options on the touch-screen in the car (you choose Android Auto or Mirror Link), it would say that there is an error and to check the device was Mirror Link compatible.
After rebooting/fiddling, I managed to get it to link up once or twice from maybe a dozen tries. What I hadn't done is recorded my process of getting it to work.
Turns out it is pretty simple.
Clearing all apps from the system RAM via the menu button (three lines in MIUI 10, or, swipe up and hold for gestures) makes my Max 3 connect first time to the car without fail. I have read something about apps in the background conflicting with the messages/instructions sent and received, but hey - my layman's solution seems to be doing the trick.
If it works for you, excellent. If not, I apologise and hope a permanent solution comes along! MIUI is a strange beast with some options - some superb (individual data access via 4G and WiFI for example), some really backward (no merging of external SD to internal is criminal!).

I am glad this thread is getting some attention, hopefully Xiaomi sees it....
I just went out and tried your method and unfortunately it didn't work for me, but I certainly appreciate you adding your workaround to this thread.
The workaround for me is to plug in the USB cable to the phone and then toggle the USB debugging and it connects as soon as I either turn on or off USB debugging. So as usual with these Chinese phones something is running in the background that is looking for Android Auto connections and the task managers on these phones are killing it. (toggling USB debugging must start whatever service is needed and it instantly connects) At least that's my theory anyways
Xiaomi.... Android does not need task killers! Please stop trying to "Optimize Memory", Free ram is totally wasted ram! The ram should be full of cached stuff for optimal performance, LOL

Ah sorry to hear this.
Mine won't stay in USB debug mode anyway, but shame it hasn't sorted for you.
If it's an issue with other applications though, it would be good to figure out which one upsets it being detected right away.

For many reasons.. They changed it in some very bad way for my opinion.. like the auto turning on WiFi by some apps, like some apps that don't have widgets, the call recording issue and many more very annoying unreasonable changes they did on A10 on.. saw also they only allow FBE encryption instead of FDE which is much better [That i can see for huge 128, 256 or maybe 512 Gigs Storages but still it should be up to the user decision not forcing]
So you say it's completely impossible? even if flash universal / rooted ROM? no way at all?! cause man those are really annoying stuff especially to the tech Pros and/or savvy's like us, and i know that since i saw many threads and posts in other forums about those issues too.. Maybe some giving up or thinking it's advancements, but really, maybe big money involved, espionage, and many more possible reasons they doing it.. It's bad, really bad..

To be honest I don't understand none of your points.
1. Wifi can be still turned on by apps, you just need to enable the permission (allow always vs. allow only when app is running in foreground).
2. Call recording is working in regions where it's not forbidden by privacy laws.
3. FBE is much better because it allows you to start the phone with basic service without using the password. Not sure why do you consider FDE to be superior.
4. Well, you can try to build your own Android 7 ROM from old sources, but you're going to have a fun time adapting to vendor partition/proprietary files created for Android 10 or 11. Also using several years old code which is not supported or patched anymore is quite interesting approach to security.

Maybe it's regional or SROMs based issue, but the vendor of the app said it's not allowed on Android 10 and on, and i did confirmed the permission to turn on WiFi automatically, but maybe there's some other settings that i missed and that guy was wrong, i'd love if you can show how to enable it globally and/or to just the auto file sync i use, cause i tried many times even with manual syncing [by clicking the Sync button when WiFi is off, it started and turn it off automatically on Android 7.0.. Of course also for time interval based sync]..

Hi.. Thanks for your reply.. i did that already before, but still it doesn't work.. i use FolderSync, that currently in my old Android 7.0 device, does syncing when i click Sync from within the app, while i was totally offline [Data and Wifi] so it turned on the Wifi connection [Specific home network], and also on Scheduled i inserted the Allowed Networks SSID [Which BTW when i turn on WiFi manually and it does sync it with GDrive, it say on top 'Unknown SSID' for case it matters {Had the feeling that it very much does}], I also switced it on in Data and WiFI limit it does on that Security app, which i guess is kind of firewall, and BTW i remember like 5-6 years ago i had the Lenovo A8 "Golden Worrier" has that same kind of Security app built in with firewall and all that, but still manually at least, as i checked, it doesn't turn on the Wifi via FolderSync app.. Got a strong feeling it's due to that Unknown SSID stuff or that Security app.. Could it be?..

FolderSync doesn't turn Wifi On automatically, this feature seems to be missing in the app. But I've just tested with Tasker and it is able to turn Wifi On and Off, so it's not a problem of Android version.
For Allowed SSID feature in FolderSync you must enable permanent location access.
Btw. I see no point in turning Wifi Off at any point, it uses so little power that there is next to none benefit in doing it. If you insist on some kind of automation, use Tasker in a fully controlled manner.

Well your first argument is actually not tru, FolderSync does turns on Wifi automatically as i do for like 4 years with my older Galaxy s6 [Great dev BTW, Samsung's first 64 bit device i thinks] running now Android 7.0, and also the other day and im sure if ill try this right now it will actually turning on WiFi from off mode and also automatically closed it when done syncing, but no matter what i did it doesn't doing it on the XM10T5G, and it both updated to the latest FolderSync version the one with those tiles.. so it must be something with the operation system.. again it's some kind of Andro/MIUI OS so it has to do with one of them..
About the SSID, i did confirmed the location access all the time [not just when it's used] on the Security app, is there any other place that i should enable location or any other settings that may be relating to this?..
And really? you don't see the point in using Wifi? It's much more faster, secure, and reliable than data.. of course i don't care if it'll be 4G or 5G even better to sync, but obviously not any connection, but thanks for the Tasker Tip, i'll try that.. i've heared that somewhere i think from the gut of FolderSync..
And BTW, the call recording is legal in my country, so i did also many years but here only after trying several apps i found Cube ACR working good.. And also, some apps ask you if you confirm that Call recording is legal in your country but of course if you flash custom or different ROM, the system obviously can never tell..
Peace..

I see no point in turning wifi OFF.
Anyway, good luck finding/building your perfect Andoid 7 ROM.

Again security and energy reasons.. Think about it..
Anyway i barely know how to flash ROM, so i'm very far from building a custom one.. But at start you said it's impossible to install / flash an older Android ROM to it [XM10T5G], so you say it's possible with custom ROM?

Again - not possible, such ROM doesn't exist.

Question Problems with app permissions, Dev mode, Autonotification - Color OS

Hi All,
Just upgraded from LGV30 to OnePlus 9 Pro. I'm in China so running Color OS and actually hoping to stay on that (I think).
Google account, play services and play store all working fine.
I have activated Developer Options but the phone then deactivates it, with a warning that it might not be safe.
App permissions (and accessibility permissions) that I set manually are revoked.
Autonotification doesn't seem to be consistently getting access to notification contents.
I believe autonotification is not getting the info because of permissions.
It's been so long since I was on an up to date version of Android, I don't know if these issues are due to the OS, Android 11, or OnePlus.
Does anyone have any light to shine on this?
Also, please let me know if I should post this in a different forum.
That's why we hate ColorOS. Maybe you should contact OnePlus directly to fix these "bugs".

I believe a system update fixed it. Dev mode is now persistent, as are permissions. Autonotifcation has passed its first test and that leads me to believe my issues are now gone.
COLOR OS is literally '****'
