Korean version - LG G8 Questions & Answers

Anyone getting the Korean version via Wonda mobile? Probably be cheaper than getting the region specific models and losing the extra camera...

I was thinking to get it from WONDA. the reason i I wanted to buy a Korean version because it has triple camera, but I will wait a little longer and see how it will look like with the g8s that should be released pretty soon.

US 3G Data?

So I'm looking around for a Rhodium to pick up, and find out that (at least that I've found) don't have the 3G network data for the US... just every other country >_>.
I *really* want this phone. I have a tilt and this is the next logical step. However, the ATT version has a crap keyboard, so I want the original model. So my question is: Is it possible to manually update the 3g network data for US usage? It's kind of pointless to spend over 600 bucks on a phone that I can't use to it's full potential.
Second, anyone know where I can pick one up less than 600 bucks?
usually it has to do more with hardware rather than software, so you're out of luck. Less than 600, more likely it will be a used one off of here or ebay.

No it´s not possible
I understand your concern, on my case is the same or buy the beautyful european version without american 3g or wait till some american carrier bring it and with the diferences like keyboard, color, etc...
I am just about to decide to buy the europe version, just will wait till July 22nd as that date aperently att&t will have it on sale.
As for the price, if you want to buy an european version there are plenty sites with good prices like clove uk
Let´s see what happens?

from what has been posted on this forum, the at&t version does not have a crap keyboard. your probably talking about that picture that shows a red one with a jacked up keyboard. That is NOT the at&t version. Somebody here on this forum saw an at&t version in person and said that it has the same exact keyboard layout as the unlocked version.

I think it's T-Mobile that'll have it on July 22nd, with their T-Mobile weird/specific 3G bands, not AT&T. I'm still anxiously waiting for AT&T to announce the release date...
^yep, the July 22nd date is for Tmob...hopefully it won't be pushed back!

Orly? Yeah, I was talking about the one with the red keyboard (the red was cool, the 10-key was not >_>). If that isn't the ATT model, then what IS it and why is that picture out there?
If the att version is standard keyboard, then I'm all about getting one from att with (hopefully) US 3g.
Thanks for all the replies!
That was a mock-up picture. If you look at the slide it says 5-Row QWERTY but the picture of the phone shows a 4-row QWERTZ. I also doubt they would keep that hideous red color.

[Q] Importing question

I really want to throw my money at someone to get the Galaxy Nexus, and since I'm on AT&T, I don't think I'll be seeing it officially supported anytime soon, and I'd have to buy it off contract anyways.
Is there a difference between getting the European and Canadian versions (in terms of software)? Would one receive updates faster than another? (The European Xoom is always slower to update than the U.S. version). Also, would a Canadian version be carrier-branded?

There's no difference between the two. And so far the only carrier branded nexus is the Verizon flavor. (Not really a nexus anymore if you ask me)
I would wait, because the Canadian Nexus will be cheaper and hopefully fix the volume bug before it ships. Also, warranty replacements will be much easier if you get a North American unit.
As far as updates, they should be the same for both units, only the LTE models will have a different update schedule.

[Q] SM-T705M

I'd love to get the Tab S 8.4 LTE (T705) but the LTE support in North America is severely lacking (only 2600MHz is supported by both my carrier and the device. I would also want 700 and 1700/2100).
I've seen mention of an "M" variant for South America (mostly Brazil) that also supports the NA frequencies but I'm coming up blank on a suitable source to purchase one. I've found a bunch of what look to be carrier websites but nothing in English and the prices, after exchange, seem to be significantly higher that what I can buy the non-"M" model for.
Does anyone know what the physical differences are between the "M" and the base version, if any?
Are they actually different or are they just using a custom radio firmware in the "M" to support the SA frequencies?
Would it be possible to flash an "M" radio firmware on the standard model to change the operating frequencies?
Thanks in advance.
Good questions, I have no answers, but the new AT&T model might be what you need. Carrier bloat beware.

Never mind carrier bloat, it's what they're taking away that concerns me.
It looks like, in typical fashion, they have disabled the phone features of the device. I don't see any mention of being able to use it as a phone on the pre-order page and the one picture of a home-screen does not have a dialer icon.
It's possible that's the SM-T707A, though. Time will tell; this is still a new device so we'll see what happens when it finally gets into peoples' hands.

The photos don't show an earset opening, so yes, no phone features in the ATT model. Well, I'm at the point of waiting for the Nexus 9 anyway before I make a decision on a new tab. I really like my Note 10, but would prefer it without touchwiz/magazine/etc.
Any luck on finding a place to buy it from yet? I can't find someone to ship to the us.
I just purchased mine a month ago. The only place I found it availible was on ebay. If you want the phone version of the Tab S make sure you purchase SM-T705. This is the phone I purchased. Tab S with phone capability, and factory unlocked.
I have the t705m bought in Brazil (unlocked) however I regret the day I purchased this tablet. I can't get along with Samsung useless apps I can't uninstall and couldn't find an alternative ROM for this device.

UK Release?

Does anyone know for sure if the G8 is coming to the UK? If so, will it be available on carriers or will we have to buy it outright? I've heard very little about the release of this phone.

Huh?
I've heard of a mid-April SIM free release date - probably from Carphone Warehouse as they also did the V30 & G7 SIM free.
Probably no VoLTE or VoWiFi support in the UK due to carriers not officially supporting the phone - LG seem to prefer to turn the options off / remove them from firmware completely rather than leaving them as some other manufacturers do.

LG really make some confusing decisions. Why would they disable features that make the phone infinitely better. Urgh!

They've done it on the last few handsets - you end up having to root the phone and then hack the firmware to turn (core) features back on.
Based on this alone, I think this is going to be the first year in the last 10 that I won't be buying an LG phone!

That's really sad, for both LG and you. I really want this phone so I can play with the sound display and air gestures, but not at the expense of standard tech which even dumb phones are starting to ship with.
What are you likely to switch to?

It's nonsensical and incredibly disappointing.
What an absolute crock. All we got is a watered down version that I won't be buying. Looks like you've lost a loyal customer LG.
It's official, the LG G8 isn't getting a UK release.
That said, Wonda Mobile is importing and selling the Korean version.
Is it safe to buy a Korean version and then using it in UK?

It is indeed.
The LG G8s LMG810EMW is the same as the Korean version and if available in a few weeks might be better to get this option. With the Korean version it will work but there will be some quirks with it.
There is no information about G8's at all ....
The reason i wanted to get g8 from Korea because it has a triple camera
Of course I'd rather buy the EU version.
I dont know why LG does not make the same models everywhere.
Just get the G8 from Wonda
I would consider selling my Canadian variant. I'm a Brit living here in Canada at the moment. Let me know if anyone is interested. Dual camera unfortunately. I only got it 4 days ago but thinking about going back to my s7 for the time being. Too much phone for me.

Question Rootable S22 available in the US?

I know the S22 variant made for the US market does not have an unlockable bootloader. But is it possible to buy a rootable S22 that will work with a Verizon SIM? Order it from overseas maybe?
yeah you can get a Korean 908N version on eBay with a very reasonable price. I got mine several days ago.

Awesome, thanks. I wasn't sure which country to look for. I prefer a pocket-sized phone and it looks like SM-SS901N is the small one and it's readily available.
I'm still running SABS on my old S9 (installed before Samsung killed it) and I was afraid I'd have to switch to a Pixel to get root, but the smallest Pixel 6 is bigger than I want. The small S22 from South Korea seems like a perfect choice.

No problem at all. I always got the Korean Variant instead of US one. Works for me all the time. I just didn't understand why they didn't provide an option of unlockinh BL on US variant. I feel like it's not even necessary.
are you looking for exynos or snapdragon? there is a large performance and compatability difference. Hong Kong and Singapore are where I got my last two phones from, bootloader unlockable snapdragons.
I'd have to say Snapdragon, which is also the South Korea variant (I'm guessing this is why it's popular for US buyers). Would there be any reason to consider an Exynos for use in the US? According to the reviews I've read, performance & battery life on the Exynos vary between meh and unusably awful.

Hello, may I ask what carrier you're using this with in the US? On Ebay, it says that it doesn't work with Verizon (due to CDMA).
I'm aware that Verizon does a little bit more than CDMA these days, but their base is still CDMA from what I understand. Thanks in advance.
