Hello
I just got a refurbished Moto Z2 force. The screen has scratches on the topmost layer. I'm not able to get a hold of the shattershield lens and I've a few questions regarding what I should be doing further.
1. Can I replace the outermost layer with a spigen screen protector?
2. After peeling of the outermost layer, can I clean the residue of the adhesive with rubbing alcohol?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you.
Hello,
1. Yes, you can use any screen protector you want as long as fits the device.
2. I have not tried alcohol but I think it won't work, try some "Goo Gone" and you should be able to clean the residue off your screen. That is the method I used. You may need a heating gun to remove the shattershield, as the adhesive is very strong and won't come off easily.

I removed mine without a hot air gun. I would advise no one attempt to do it without a hot air gun. Goo gone, credit card and my finger did the trick to remove the in he says. When I initially saw all of the adhesive on my screen I started looking for a new phone.
I finally decided I was tired of the scratches and some deep gouge marks in my shatterproof shield. I purchased a Mr. Shield 2-Pack of tempered glass screen protectors and installed one last night. I did use a goo-gone type of adhesive remover to rid the screen of the leftover adhesive and then used alcohol to do a final cleaning before installation of the tempered glass screen protector. I only wish I would have done it sooner.
Here is the Mr. Shield tempered glass screen protector on Amazon.

Go into a cold bathroom and turn on the hot shower. The damp in the room takes care of all the dust and the moisture on the screen (DONT PUT IT DIRECTLY UNDER THE SHOWER THOUGH!) makes the protector a little easier to apply (u can still move it a bit when the screen is moist).
But it still will be a bit of a hussle.
Sticky tape
Cover your screen with strips of sticky tape...
Then, get your protector, and make a little 'tab out of stick tape at one end ...
Remove the tape from the screen to pull off all the dust with it.
Then, stat to peel back the backing off the protector, right accross one end. Hold the protector with the tab you made. Position it at one end, and gradually roll back the backing underneath it. Use a credit card or piece of firm cardboard to smooth out the protector as you apply it.
Once done, use a credit card or firm cardboard to push any air bubbles to the edges - start form the middle, of course...

First, I steam up the bathroom. Steam will settle ANY dust. 1 piece of dust is all it takes to make a bubble. With the steam settling the dust, I put the whole screen protector on with front and back. I line it up, then use Scotch tape and tape it along the left side. Then, fold it back, remove the sticky back, then fold back onto the phone. I've got many phones perfect with this technique.
Hope this helps.

Here's what I did to install tempered glass... Everyone says it's much easier than a plastic screen protector but I found it much more difficult lol. It's hard to remove with out damaging the film underneath and once you chip the film it won't lay flat. So I ended up ordering another one.
Clean screen, alcohol wipes if needed.
Take off shirt (to prevent dust), go into bathroom and turn on shower as hot as possible, door shut, no fan, Windows shut. Once you get it as steamy as a sauna you can turn off water.
Clean screen again with microfiber cloth make sure there's no dust on it.
Remove plastic cover to reveal adhesive side of protector. Line up protector on top edge of screen first, once you have it perfectly aligned, hold the top of it with your thumb. Then guide the bottom into place. It should stick to the top of your screen first and work it's way down.
Then exit steamy bathroom, use microfiber cloth to push out any bubbles around edges.
You'll see some moisture trapped under the protector from the steam, don't worry it will go away after a day or so.
So that's how I did, the extra cautious way to ensure I didn't mess up again and have to order another one. Good luck!
Wont the steam enter the handset via speakerholes, charging slot.... I won't try this... The mist might spoil the phone... But i applied nillkin the way mentioned in the guide coming with the package., the only thing i did different was to align it from the right side vertically... And worked in the first go
Well, I didn't want to mess up and waste 9$ so I just went to a nearby mobile store and got the service guy to put it on for me
Thanks for the insight though, guys.
Much appreciated.

I was concerned about that but I found the steam doesn't move downward onto your phone if its laying flat on a counter. Hot air rises. You could put tape over the speakers if your worried about that.
Does anyone have instructions or information on the replacement of the factory screen protector?
I know Motorola can replace the screen protector and some folks have had it done for free. Does going this route requires any proof of purchase or other requirements.
I've seen a youtube video, talking about removal but it wasn't complete.
I have also read threads mentioning that removing the screen protector can cause the digitizer to stop working.
I talked to a guy at ubreakifix and he wasn't forth coming about the screen protector removal. He insisted it would be a screen replacement as opposed to just removing the screen protector. From the video the screen protector removal looks to leave behind a much thicker than normal glue. Not sure how this would be removed, some have suggested alcohol. Also, if the screen protector is removed, would it be possible to replace with a glass or other protector that would be easier to deal with?
Any info. on the subject would be greatly appreciated.
I removed the screen protector on one of my Z2 Force. It is difficult and you might pull the screen out. After removing the screen protector, you need to use Goo gone to remove the glue (quite difficult as well). I then installed a glass screen protector.

Don't get Goo Gone near anything plastic. It melts plastic.
Better to use Naptha (e.g. lighter fluid). This is an all purpose solvent that is as good as Goo Gone for removing adhesive, and won't eat plastic.
isn't that plastic that's installed to keep it shatterproof? from what I was told they said not to remove it or it would void the shatterproof warranty.
Just a warning. I just opened my Fold, and my finger slipped. My nail then caught on the edge of the front screen protector. Now has a tiny scratch, but loads of bubbles and a couple with speck of dust (so impossible to remove). It's not a massive problem, but it is annoying.
It's really easy to do, so please be aware of that when opening.
Is this a screen protector you applied?

No, factory installation.
take it off and install a new one
If you are careful, here is what I did...
Removed the factory protector
Rinsed the screen protector under cold water
Used a lint-free cloth to dry
Used Scotch Tape rolled inside out (sticky side out) and removed any lingering dust particles (Phone and Screen Protector)
Used a small spray bottle (that, interestingly enough, came from another screen protector install kit) and sprayed a small amount of Rubbing Alcohol on the screen
Placed Screen Protector back on phone
Pushed all the alcohol/bubbles out
Wipe with lint free cloth and let sit for a few mins to really dry out
Was it worth it? In the end? No, I ended up replacing it eventually anyway (about a week without issues initially), but once you try this, the screen protector never adheres to the phone the same again anyway. So forget all that mess and get a new one and put it on.
IF you try this, just know that it will, probably, last you long enough to get a new one and install it. Great in a pinch if you have the time to do it.

If you install one yourself do it in the bathroom after running hot water through the shower (Suggested to me by another member).
Or otherwise jack up the humidity in the room to help reduce static and get dust out of the air.
Wear cotton.
I like to use wet apply hydrocell screen protectors (Gorilla IQ Sheild) on my N10+'s but any dust can screw up the installation. Cleaning clothes have to be 100% lint free.
