Quick Charge 3.0 and USB C not working - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

So charging is extremely slow now: max 280mA showing in Ampere app. Tried different cables and chargers(QC3.0 certified), charging speed remains the same.
I can't connect to PC anymore. Windows doesn't even make a sound when I connect the phone to PC. Showing no device.
Headphones connected to USB port are playing only one audio channel.
I've been using LOS 15.1 since last summer without problems, haven't done any updates since. The problem with USB port emerged a month ago and I am almost convinced it's a HW issue. AIDA64 indicates no temperatures over 36°C in thermal section so sensors are working fine I guess.
Anyone tried these charging ports from Aliexpress? Comments indicate that they are not the same as the original.

It really sounds as hardware problem. I asume you already tried with the phone off, and after factory reset and the problem persists.
In my experience, the original lower board have fuses which are expensive and are replaced by resistors on chinese replacements. If you dont want to lose this, try going into a repair shop and have the USB-C port replaced or desoldered/resoldered from the board. Must be done by experienced guy or it will be melted.
I'd buy the replacement board anyway. As long as you don't use crappy chargers, you shouldnt need the fuse too much, and also, the phone have another fuse in the motherboard.
If you have not tried with the phone off, try it. I got the xiaomi wireless charger and it works like crap with the phone on. it disconnects/maintains chage/stops charging A LOT, but if I charge the phone turned off it charges without issues at full power (8-10W according to my USB meter). Maybe is just the firmware being an ass

Thank you for insights. I confirm that hard reset nor charging solved the missing QC3.0 functionality. It's clearly a HW issue.
The whole situation was caused by losing my original charger on a trip and then using certified QC3.0 charger (not from Xiaomi) and unfortunately - cheap Chinese micro USB C cable. I can't stress this more... Never use cheap cables (or chargers) they can literally fry up your port. In this case it was definitely the cable eventhough it worked fine for 5 months.
It seems (from comments) that beside fuses the charging ports from Aliexpress are missing the possibility to transfer data over USB as well. Which is not that crucial because FTP over WiFi is bearable. The real problem that I need to fix is quick charging because with 280mA on Ampere app it takes 5 hours to charge this phone.
The charging port I've bought on Ali is on its way so I will update this thread in a few weeks after inserting it into the phone.

Losing data over usb is quite a problem if you are into custom roms/mods on native miui (which resets the recovery on each update).
Hope that ali's board does have this funcionality. About charging, you can get locally a wireless charger for now, though for me it only charges fast when the phone is idle, using it always just keeps the charge (probably to avoid overheating).

So how the story ends? We're you able to solve the problem?

I had the same issue with my Mix 2. bought a replacement port from Aliexpress and Witrigs.com. As posted on most forums these replacement ports don't support fast charging (in most cases) and no USB data transfer (this is the case with mine).
I had dropped a message on the witrigs.com website to confirm if their supposedly 'OEM' replacement supports data over USB (it looks much more like the original board in the phone that the 'custom' replica one that is half the price).
but I'm not very hopeful of that being the case, given someone has already left a comment on the product page indicating they bought the OEM version and faced the same issue with no quick charging or USB data transfer

Got some problem when i lost my usb travel charger on a trip.
and now my phone was too slow and cant transfer data even if i buy the new authentic from xiaomi store.
i hard reset for 3 times and but no luck.
omg -___-

I know it's old, but I'll let you in on my problem.
I have the Mi Mix 2 and it was happily fast charging until recently. Still the original plug and cable
I have tried all sorts of theories to get it fixed and one person said to charge it while turned off
So I plugged in my usb cable and turned off my phone. Only for it to automatically fire up and go into fastboot. No charging. Just fastboot on the screen
Obviously I can get out of fastboot mode again, but is mine an option change in the settings that needs addressing?
Thanks

[SOLVED] SM-P605 (kitkat) battery charging problem

It is solved! Some 3rd-party usb chargers have same issue.
Samsung standard charger works very well.
I have a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition (Hongkong, TGY).
Yesterday I updated my device to 4.4.2 (P605ZSUCNE3_P605OZSCNE3_TGY) with Odin.
Upgrading was OK, everything works fine except a battery charging problem.
When device connects to a usb charger, the battery stops charging after 1-2 minutes although not 100%.
I tried something but nothing helps.
- Changing charger/cable to another
- Factory reset (Recovery mode)
- Flashing P605XXUCNE2_P605OXACNE2_NEE (Nordic) Firmware
- Power off mode charging -> It works. This is the only way to make device 100% that I found.

I've got the same issue following the 4.4.2 update, all my third party charges that worked fine before the update no longer work. Battery management software show the device getting the same mA of current to the battery but the device is not charging (it says that it is!).
Original charger does work but is not a valid solution for me, why are the non-oem chargers not working all of a sudden and how do I get them to work again?

I'm having the same problem, trying to fix with some charger mods (shorting data pins of USB) or fast charge kernel. The kernel hack did not work yet, but shorting the d+ and d+ pins of usb cable on device end works. (although I could achive max 1.5mah)
According to this
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...t-on-the-note-3-but-there-is-a-root-solution/
Samsung denies any intentional blocking and a connection between KitKat and third party accessories.
I tried my third party chargers and they too didn't work. Charging stopped when the screen turned off. However, my Motorola and HTC chargers do work. Maybe the third party tings have inconsisten voltage output or something like that.
I had the new Tab s 10.5 and some of my usb chargers would not work. I found a deal way to good to pass up so I returned the Tab s and THOUGHT I was getting a Note 10.1 2014 wifi. Yet lol I didnt I got a 605 which is AWESOME ..I just always wanted the SnapDragon chip. It was a tad over $400 32gb NEW.
Anyway so I turn it on set it up and it was downloading 4.4 already I wanted to stay with 4.3 after reading around here. Yet so far it works flawless. All my usb chargers work. I can be doing ANYTHING and it keeps charging. Like I said the Tab s I could ONLY use Samsungs.
In my case Android 4.4 for P605 is way better than 4.3. Great battery live, great performance, no or very small lags. But I had initial release of 4.3 ROM which was never updated.
I have a third party charger and it goes well. It is Chinese no marks.
If it is just shorting the data pins, then it will charge. But you will be limited to 1500mah.
I think it needs an Apple compatible charger. Only the Apple standard supports charging over Usb 2 at 2A, for the Ipad.
The Anker 5 port 8A charger is fantastic.

No, I did that mistake and bought a dual port 4a charger. Samsung somehow detects Apple charger and stops charging when screen turns off. I had to make an adapter for shorting data pins, like this, I can at least charge with 1.5a
while i was on vacation my p605 starts having the same problem. It is just loading while the screen is on. After getting black/off it takes a few more seconds till charging stops. This problem is accompanied by the symptom that the tablet won't be recognized by the pc anymore. It is just loading ('til the screen gets black). i have no idea what to do. i am not sure, if the different voltage on vacation could be a reason. based on the fact that i can't get it back to stock, i guess i can not get it repaired by warranty (or is there any way to get it stock? unfortunately mobile odin is not supported). i would be glad about some good hints and thank you in advance
Your cable or charger might have a problem or you may be using a different charger than original one.
Hi everyone,
I've found a bit different issue - my P605 (LTE) does not want to be charged when plugged into USB port (so, no charger is being used).
I tried both using laptop and stationary PC
//ok, nevermind. I've just found somewhere else, that it has been always like that (not noticed that before)
Exact same problem here - charging stops as soon as the screen lock kicks in, even with the original Samsung charger. Brought the tablet back to the tmobile store and had them connect to another Samsung charger - still happens.
Has anyone found a fix for this short of shorting the harger pins?
I don't follow my own advice, and never had this problem. But charge with the original cable where the two GND pins are connected. In most cables one of them is open.
My old Garmin Street Pilot with mini usb used the second GND pin to determine whether to remain operational and charge, or go into pc connectivity mode and do nothing else.
I have the same problem . After upgrading to Kit kat just a few days ago it would stop charging moments after the screen turns off. No matter what cable or charger
This happens to me only when I'm not using original 5.3v charger and original cable. Check your cable and charger. (although I think it works with 5v Samsung charger of my note 3 as well)
My last charger had 4.9v with no load, and certainly lower with a 2A load. No Problems. But if a charger is badly stabilized, it may drop too much, and the Note is very demanding, with twice the current of a typical phone.
I had a DIY adapter to charge my old Nokia stuff via USB. The Nokia chargers have a 5v spec, but one provided 6v, another 7v. And USB voltage seemed too low, there was sort of sporadic charge, with the connection dropping after a short time. But all connections were fine, must have been a voltage thang.
So i still have to keep a Nokia charger ready, only to charge my Nokia BT headset.
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition Charging Fail
Has anyone discovered a fix for this:
When I plug in my tablet...Samsung Galaxy Note 2014 Edition...Using any plug (I have tried factory charger, and multiple alternatives including Ipad Charging adapters) when the screen is on the charging occurs, but When the screen closes about 2 seconds later the screen turns back on the way it does when charge is complete, only its still at same battery level as before! I have tried closing all apps and still the same, Used Task Manager to close all apps and clear the RAM and still nothing, Gone into app manager and closed running processes and still the same results! I am operating KitKat (OS since purchase) and the only actual way to charge it is to leave a plug in all day with the screen On, or shut off the Tablet!
Is there a fix for this or what?
Its bad enough that I cant find a good bluetooth keyboard that is compatible with this tablet! Im on the verge of trading it in and going Apple! Someone please help...Keep me from turning to Apple!
Is there a fix for this even if it requires manually adjusting chargers or the tablet itself (the internal components)?
thank you all for your help!

[Q] Nexus 7 won’t charge

Hi I bought my Nexus 7 2013 used in February. It came with a 3rd party charger and usb cable. It’s worked fine since I got it and it use to charge fine. I would use different usb cables and they would all work. Within the past 2 weeks or so it has become increasingly hard to charge it. Also this started happening on the stock 4.4.4 rom with root enabled. Today I installed a custom chroma 5.1.1 rom just to see if anything changed but it’s the same result it doesn't charge. The chroma rom says it has the Franco Kernel. Not really sure what that means but the stock rom's kernal wasn't changed.
I've left it off and connected charging to the AC for hours and would turn it on and it would have not raised at all in battery charge percentage. When it’s on and I can better see the percentage in this battery app I have installed I noticed if I jiggle the cable at all it will disconnect and connect again. So it might not be making good contact. It does this with every usb cable I have tried on it. However when I don’t move it and have it charging in sleep mode it does see it as connected and it says charging in the battery monitor widget app when I wake it, but it doesn't charge stays at the same percentage or lowers.
There is sometimes where I get lucky and it starts charging but it’s becoming increasingly tougher to get that to happen. I haven’t had any luck since last night messing around with it with different cables. I've even tried charging it on my PC but it’s the same result. It says charging but it doesn't charge. However if I do connect it to the PC I can view the files on the Nexus 7 fine as long as I don’t move the Nexus 7 much. I've also tried the AC adapter on my phone to see if it works and it works fine and charges. I've tried a kindle fire 9w charger on the Nexus 7 and that doesn't charge either.
Any idea what’s the problem? If I buy the official AC charger do you think it would work? Am I better off buying a Qi wifi charger? I rather not waste money on the AC charger if there is a good possibility of it not working.
Hi,
I seem to have the same problem recently. I am running on 20150519 CM12.1 nightly right now but this problem started to occur about 2 weeks ago i.e. with an older nightly version running...
It really feels like the USB connector is broken. I have to move it the same way headphones jack has to be moved when it is broken. Have you tried more different chargers? I did but no solution.... Now I got it luckily charged to 90% and I am making a quick backup.
Do you have still warranty? I technically do but would need to get back to stock and lock the bootloader back.
I found threads on how to get back to stock via USB connection but is it possible to lock the bootloader without being able to connect USB to computer?
No unfortunately I have no warranty since its a used item. I tried the 3rd party cheap charger, amazon kindle fire charger and my phone charger on it they all don't charge. I think you can replace the USB board on it but that would require opening it up and doing the repairs yourself. I think I will just get a Qi charger and see if that works. I kinda don't want to spend money on that just to find out its my battery that doesn't work. I am not sure what the problem is since I can connect the nexus 7 to my PC and it will see it and its files fine. So I know the USB port works at least a little bit.
It's a sub-board (usb-sim-touch module) issue. I would reccommend using a wireless charger as a quick fix since the wireless charger module is located on the motherboard itself so you should be good.
I may have a few sub-boards for the 2013 lying around but i'm not sure if they're 100% okay - as in calibrated, tested and fully functional. Also, i'd need to know if yours has LTE or not.
I have a Nexus 7 2013 32gb wifi edition. Thanks for the info. I put in an order for one of those wireless chargers.

perhaps you did that already, but from experience i must say that in 9 out of 10 cases it's the cable and 8 out of 10 cables are mediocre as compared to how it could be. no why i say that ist because i tested something between 50 and 60 cables during the last 2 years because i had similar issues and bought a special ampere and voltmeter with with the correct usb ports to measure the flow, same device, same power source, thus as empiric as possible result most cables charged between 0.9 and 1.1 A while about 10% were half of that and only few charged at 1.5A while 3 charged at between 1.9 and 2.1A. understand me right, same device, same charger, sam place all same condition, in car, on motorbike, on wall plugs. only significant difference were the cables. so check those first before taking more costly path which then only remain workarounds.
BTW amongst the bad ones were many that came out of the box with the devices and from different oems but many samsung original cables.
what i did i painted the ends of each cable with red for bad, yellow for ok, green for good and the outstanding ones already had a color, it were the stock cables from the oneplus one which had the best charging rate. good luck

My phone is not fast charging

Last weekend my phone was working perfect then the battery reached 1% i put it to charge and i saw that it was charging but it said 6 hours to charge, which i found strange, i tried multiple chargers, etc. and none of them worked, so i thought that maybe the usb port got damaged because the same thing happened to my old note 4 and i fixed it replacing the usb port but i changed the usb port and it didn't work, so i thought that maybe the replacement was broken too, and i order 2 more from different places, and they didn't work. So I think that maybe is a software issue, I have the OF8 room rooted with AOU Kernel and TWRP and using the engineering sboot but there is no way for me to flash to stock because the phone is not being recognized by the computer as a usb device, so when i connect it to the computer is only working for cable charging. What do you guys think? Maybe i got all the replacement port broken, or maybe the sboot is affecting the port, or worst case scenario, the mainboard is faulty (which i don't think so, because the wifi, bluetooth, gps, screen rotation, everything else works)
Computer USB ports generally cannot fast charge unless it's USB 3.0. The phone doesn't need to be recognized by the OS. Fast charging is different from quick charge, where you will need to buy a compatible charger.
Thank you for replying back. But the issue is not the fast charging with the USB computer, is with any kind of fast charge/quick charge wall adapter. I think that i found the issue, and it was an external battery pack that it was damaging usb ports, because i got a brand new LG G4 and after i connected it to the battery it started to behave in the same way, so looks like the usb port gets broken every time i connect a device to that external battery.

G4 Charge/USB port issues

I've had my G4 since almost launch day and within weeks the supplied USB cable stopped charging the phone. I thought it was a cable problem, but it worked fine with other devices.
I tried other cables with the G4 and these still charged it so I thought nothing more of it until charging degraded with every USB cable I own to where the phone would only charge 20-30% during an overnight charge and the phone would frequently not recognise it was plugged in at all. I contacted LG who did a repair under warranty and all was fine.
I've now had the repaired phone back for about 3 weeks and the same problems are starting up again and it's only a matter of time until I am forced to return again for a repair.
Is anyone else having similar problems? I thought I may have just had an unlucky manufacturing problem, and the LG reps confirmed that to repair my phone they basically replace all the internal circuit boards and components rather than just replacing the individual component that is faulty (in this case the USB/charging port)
Basic debugging includes asking stupid questions, so please forgive but still answer any of those
Are you using a different charger? If so, check if that one is within specifications and if you do send in for repair again, use a different charger.
Are you propping up the device at an odd/weird angle or in a dock of some sort with the cable attached?
(As they replaced the entire print, it's probably not this, just the USB-micro port bent or broken.)
You could double check the wall outlets being used, there might be some kind of electrical problem there.
Either using all kinds of fancy electical testing gadgets, or stick a USB light into the hub or charger, does it flicker?
When sending it back for repairs, did they check the stock charger as well?
Hopefully these questions help you find any logical or plausible cause.

Hi FreezyExp,
1. I am using the standard charger that came with the phone, but this has not been repaired/replaced. I have tried other chargers too, but all the same issue.
2. No weird propping up or anything like that. If I hold my phone while it is plugged in it is constantly vibrating as the charger connects and disconnects, and if I place it on the desk to charge I have to ensure that I have at least 3-4" of cabe "on the desk" to give it enough support to make the connection.
3. Wall connection is fine and I have tried it with a range of outlets around the home, both with extension sockets used and plugged directly into the wall and there is no different. No flickering light when using a USB light either.
4. When I sent it back all they asked me to return was the main section of the handset - so no battery or rear cover, no cables or chargers etc
It does seem to be the same issue as last time, a USB connection becoming loose from the main motherboard, but it seems weird that I have had the same issue twice in the space of 4-5 months.
I've been having some sort of problem with my G4 usb port. If I plug it in to a computer, it will lose connection and get a connection again if I barely touch the end of the cord at the phone end. I've tried many different cords and different usb ports on my computer, but it still has problems.
I can't fast charge, either. When I plug it in to fast charge, it actually starts discharging even faster. I've had some extreme battery life problems, too. It drained from 100-36 the other night with everything disabled, and it's been doing that kind of thing a lot lately. I'm guessing that the charging port is what's messing up my battery life because it won't charge correctly.
Never dropped it or anything.
I got my G4 on January 24 and my USB port has also failed. I am getting a replacement from Verizon, but am concerned that a six month old phone has this issue.
I also own a G4 H815. A while ago the phone started not receiving any charge from the cable and I would have to prop it up from right under the cable's micro usb end. Thought it was because it was bent inside the port and not making connection with the cable so I had the port replaced. Now I'm experiencing the same problem and I think it might be the cable that's already gone kaput and is effing up the port itself. I took the phone to the same place to get the port replaced again and bought new cables (I lost both the original adapter and the cable, which were charging slow anyway. Now using a 2A Asus adapter which works great) and when I asked the guy at the repair shop, he says it's a chronic issue with G4 devices. I don't really understand how it would happen twice in just a few months even with a new charger port. What should I make of this? Did they replace my port with an already faulty one, cahrged me full price and now trying to sell this bogus or am I really doomed with this phone?

Is my Pixel 2 XL charging port damaged?

I noticed that my Pixel 2 XL suddenly stopped connecting to the car via the USB cable (Android Auto). When I connect the cable, the phone charges but nothing happens on the monitor. When I try the same cable with my OG Pixel XL it works fine. I also tried connecting my Pixel 2 XL to my PC, and it didn't work either. Windows makes a sound, and then I get an error message saying "USB device not recognized. the last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned." Nothing shows up on the phone screen and I can't change the USB-connection type. I tried factory resetting the phone but I still have the same issue. I have tried many different cables, and all work with the OG Pixel XL but not the Pixel 2 XL.
Also the time estimate for how long a full charge will take is gone as well. It only says "charges rapidly" when I connect it to the charger that came with the phone.
Is my charging port damaged? Can I fix it somehow? I tried carefully cleaning it with water and a tooth brush and drying it, but still have the same issue. Could it be corrosion? Should I try using PRF TCC on the charge port?

Cable could be going bad or it's missing the 100ohm resister the phone just went into protection it will work again at some point but I recommend getting a new cable direct from Google
Tired of buying ones that should have the resister but still not having quick charge work and issues like that.

Check for these options, see if it got changed to charging only.
Unfortunately, I don't have these options available. Like I said, nothing happens. The phone only goes into charging mode. I've tried a bunch of different cables that works with my OG Pixel.
in developer options check to see if under "select USB configuration" you have it set to charging only.
I have also started to notice a weird charging issue with my Pixel 2 XL. First, I thought that it was the original cable - ordered a replacement via Google Support but today I started noticing a very similar issue. Basically, only 1 way of the reversible cable can charge my device, so if I turn it upside down it won't charge at all - no matter which of the sides I plug into it. When it's plugged in normally, it'll charge for a few seconds then off and on again - all of this at a very fast speed, so it'll keep my screen on at all times. I've noticed this as I've left my phone on the bed for half an hour to charge it then spot that my screen was on for like 5 minutes - when I picked up the phone, it was pretty warm and would charge and disconnect and then charge again - in a loop.
Meanwhile, if I plug in my Anker (a third party) USB-C cable, it will charge just fine - no matter which of the reversible sides I try it with. So having checked that, I thought it was the wall plug going crazy or something, so I plugged the USB-C cable into my computer (Thunderbolt 3) and it was the same issue - it would charge normally only with one of the sides, so when I turned it upside down, nothing would happen.
Also, what's weird is that the Pixel cable, both the old and the replacement one works fine with the Galaxy S9, but not my Pixel - so I assume it's a hardware (charging port) issue with my device, so tomorrow the UK team should get in touch with me to discuss my options :/

Tried doing it. No change.
I tried using some contact spray to see if it's because of rust/oxidation of the pins in the charging port, no change.
I still think it's an hardware issue though. Like I said, not even factory resetting the phone fixed it. I'll just live with not having android auto and USB, not super important for me anyway. Thanks guys.
I wonder if there is a defect in the charging ports of these. I just got a replacement because mine wouldn't charge on any c to c charger (I have two factory chargers). It would only charge when connected to a computer with an A to C, or using the same cable type to a wall charger. It was really weird... This is also the second or third post in the last week or two I've seen about something pertaining to the port.

It would only charge when connected to a computer with an A to C, or using the same cable type to a wall charger. It was really weird... This is also the second or third post in the last week or two I've seen about something pertaining to the port.

There probably is .. I've read a lot of posts about people having similar issues.
Ok... So something weird just happened. I connected my phone to the charger as usual, and suddenly I could see the "estimated time until full charge" notification again, for the first time in weeks! I tried disconnecting it, and connecting it to my computer and I could browse the images on my phone! I thought my issue was fixed, so I disconnected it and connected it to the outlet again.. And now it is the same as before again. No estimate until full charge and windows says the device malfunctioned... What the hell happened there for a couple of minutes?
Pixel 2 XL and having the identcal issue as OP.
Phone charges only in car and computer. Once for just a few minutes the Android Auto just starter working and on PC I was briefly able to access phone storage. Then nothing. Went to dealer thinking it was car USB port but the technicians Samsung plugged in and Android Auto started right up.
Swapped cables, same isssue.
Wondering if I should even bother with factory reset or just pursue repair?
My Pixel 2 XL is from Verizon, anyone have any experience with warranty repairs?
(btw, checked in the developer sections and usb is set to MTP)

Same exact problem here with XL2. The phone will charge anywhere with any cable but can not access phone storage from laptop and Android Auto no longer works. It worked fine last week, now no go. I called Google as I bought phone from them and they are are sending a replacement to me which will be here this Monday.
Has to be hardware issue as my XL works perfectly.
Hey i have the exact same problem. Cannot access the phone with usb cable. The problem for me is, that i have Lineage OS installed without root and it installed its own recovery, so i'm basically unable to go back to stock. The google support told me that because it's not the original software on the phone its out of warranty and i should just reflash the factory image, but i already told them that as long as i can't access the phone with usb i can't do that. Will see what i can do else. Maybe i just have to pay to get it fixed. I'm very sad about that.
Also same here. I contacted support and signs indicate that this is a warranty issue.
No USB data for me anymore. Charging only. The interesting thing is although the USB-C is symmetrical only one of the two possible orientations is actually charging the phone.
Same problem just happened with my pixel 2 XL. I believe this was some kind of a weird update that Google did last night that screwed everything up. I've tried hard factory reset as well as resetting the phone changing cables Etc. Nothing works
I was one of those people that cursed out Google regarding this particular issue. I was getting windows 10 errors "device not recognized", the USB-C audio adapter didn't work for my car, not did the audio adapter, so I was gonna chalk it up to the fact I got a faulty phone, that was until....
I had searched around and saw some articles on how the USB-C port was a dust collector. I used s toothpick to knock out some of the lint that was trapped inside the port, nothing changed.
Just about to RMA my phone and I decide to try one last attempt.
1) find the thinnest cardboard / oaktag you can find that can fit in either side of the port without having use force ( if you have an old Google fi data sim card cardboard laying around, it works perfect )
2) Get some rubbing alcohol and dip about 2 to 3 cm of it in the alcohol
3) Gently move the cardboard against the connectors in a left right motion, too and bottom side, when you hit the corners drag the cardboard up to remove any additional dust or lint. I ended up extracting more lint and dirt that rolled off both sides of the connectors
I let the USB-C connector dry and cleaned again in the same method.
Now when I plug in my device it's recognized by my PC, all USB-C peripherals work, even my SanDisk USB-C flash drive.
Before you quit after all your efforts, give cleaning the port a shot. You can't really do any damage because the phone is moisture resistant , and alcohol evaporates quick.
It's very easy for dirt to get lodged in the port, and when you plug in your phone to charge, it's just going to compress and smear the dirt all over the connectors ( possibly fuse the dirt on the contacts ). This happens with all USB-C ports in similar situations.
If you guys are still reading this , give it a shot if you haven't returned your units.
ugh .... just happened to mine. While the bootloader is unlocked. hopefully i can clean or replace the port.

I had this exact same problem. I had never heard of anyone else having the issue. Both the original charger that came with the phone and a replacement from Google had the issue but the chargers I got with Nexus 5X phones worked fine.
During the same time period I also had issues with the phone only detecting the 3.5mm adapter one way or not at all. Others had reported this issue.
At some point recently, as randomly as it seemed to stop working (charger and 3.5mm adapter) both started working again.

Indeed, recently it has started working again, although I am still waiting for an original response from Google (been waiting for half a year and really doubt they'd come to a conclusion after all....)
I had contacted them and they still told me to wait... Really disappointed about the way this serious issue was handled and it is still being handled.
Anyways, everything seems to be working out of blue, that's what matters.

The best guess I have is that the issue was caused by some bug in an update (the April or May update if my timeline is correct) and was fixed in the November Update.
Now I have a new issue that stated with the Pie update. Music metadata no longer shows up on my car's audio system when playing over Bluetooth. Many people are experiencing the issue. There is a work around but it's annoying.
