Is there any way to organize apps into folders while using the default Pixel launcher? I have various apps that I'd like to group together, rarely used apps, utility type apps etc. Wondering if there's a way to group them on the stock launcher.
Found the answer myself, now running Microsoft Launcher, tried Nova but did not want to pay for Prime just to make folders. I've used the Microsoft Launcher previously and been happy with it, so using that for now. Still, kind of stupid that Google do not include that simple functionality with the default launcher.
Thanks

So this might seem like a dumb question but I've honestly tried my best to come up with an answer before posting. I recently switched from TouchWiz to Nova Launcher which I absolutely love. I just have a small issue with it. In my App drawer I have it broken down into 3 sections. Apps, Games, and Tools. When I install an app from Google Play that app does not come up anywhere. I have a CM9 Touchpad (that I haven't used in a while) but I I remember it having a section such as "Recently Installed". Apps that I just installed would come here and I could then move them to the sections I wanted.
Does Nova Launcher have something like this. Or do I manually have to add it to the drawer?
Hi,
I've tried the same setup as you, as I'm already using Nova Launcher 1.2.2.
From start I only had Apps and widgets in the drawer.
went into Nova settings, and created a new tab in drawer group called "Social".
In that group I moved: Google+, Facebook, Instagram and XDA.
Went into google play, and downloaded Twitter app.
Back to drawer "apps", and it was there.
To put it into the "Social" tab, just go into drawer group again, and add it on the list, and hit back twice.
Hope it helps.
PS.: Remember to uncheck "Hidden apps" when you create a group.
I was wondering if there was a way to run a launcher other than TW but keep TW's style for applications rather than ICS's. I don't like having ALL apps in a complete list/grid. I like having multiple pages to organize specific apps to specific pages iOS/TW style and having a page for folders containing rarely used apps and other folders with apps never used (ie. settings; i use menu shortcut usually). I don't really like the hide apps way to do it. The themes I have come accross adw/nova launchers are usually the home screens...have I just not explored deep enough? TIA.

Thanks. I found folders in Nova launcher but is there a way to do a Customizeable Grid? TW offers your typical ABC grid, ABC list, and a Customizeable Grid. This allows me to put all my games onto a page, all my chats onto a page, all my groupon type apps onto a page, etc. Of course I could just put them into a folder but for semi frequently used apps, I want to just have pages customized with them.
My wondering is if fl16 laun her could rotate

If you use groups instead of folders it puts the apps on tabbed pages like the app/widget tabs

I know that Google default launcher in the Nexus series (not TouchWiz, not Sense) does not have the capability to create folders in the App Drawer.
Does anyone know any mods to add this feature?
PS: I know about "use other launcher", but I like Google default launcher. I tried Nova and the folders CANNOT be arranged. I tried Go Launcher and for some reason bog downs my tablet.
Since I received no response, I assume this cannot be done.
So I will change the question:
If I create folders on the home screen to group all the apps, I will have about 10 different folders. Since these are like "Widgets", will this have any impact on battery? Basically I will have 10 widgets (the folders) and 3 other widgets.
I need to have 3 contact groups, Family, Friends, Work. In the past I have used an old app called smart shortcuts, I could add a shortcut for each folder to my home screen, It works buts its a huge pain.
There has to be a better way
Someone must have a better way?
Thanks
Maybe try a different launcher, I have groups in Nova Launcher for contacts, media apps, social networks apps, etc.
I second trying Nova launcher. A lot of these kind of features are available and built-in. I was always an Apex user, but it just didn't seem to work as well/smoothly with Oreo and S9... they haven't updated it much in the past few years. Nova on the other hand is extremely smooth.
Have you considered using the "edge" feature? It seems to be designed for exactly what you're looking for, without having to put shortcuts on the desktop.
I do use the edge feature for favorite/family contacts but I have something like 80 work contacts I need a seperate shortcut for and another for about 20 friends
Stock Android is near perfect. However I have a strong dislike for it's launcher as it won't allow sorting apps manually or creating folders in the app drawer. I don't like Nova type launchers either as they still sort apps alphabetically despite offering app category functionality. Can anybody port Samsung's native launcher for stock Android?
