Adaptive brightness too bright after reset - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

I was pretty happy with adaptive brightness since the pie beta but now I had a factory reset after messing up with my device the screen is really bright every time I unlock my phone and I have to manually adjust it every time. Anyone knows how to reset the adaptation or something?

Auto Display goes to really dim setting sometimes

I leave my phone set for Adaptive Brightness.
First, it's annoying that setting the manual brightness to max and then turning on Adaptive Brightness means that I can't achieve super dim display in dark.
Anyhow, so I leave my phone set to Adaptive Brightness all the time.
And it usually adjusts my display bright or dim(ish) as needed.
Then randomly it'll just go to the absolute dimmest setting and stay there even after a reboot.
I have to toggle Adaptive Brightness off and back on again.
Anyone else seeing this behavior?
I think it's time to give Lux Brightness app another shot.
Hopefully they've worked out the bugs since the last time I used it.

I've not had any issues with mine, do you have a tempered glass screen protector that covers the sensor on the front of the phone? It may be detracting light confusing the sensor.
Nope, no covers. Nekid phone here.

Brightness issue

My friend got this watch as gift. Its fully dimmed and changing brightness level doesn't fix the issue. It has like 5% brightness of my lg g watch at level 1. It gets bright only when it boots up (on sony logo only then it gets dimmed again). Is there any fix for it? I reset it and wont work.
Hardware problem I suppose but it's strange the watch is bright while booting up...
If it's dark when set to auto and brightens if you manually set the intensity, then the photo detector is probably bad. It sees no light, so it sets it as low as possible. If it's always dark (after boot), you've probably got bad hardware or a bad configuration file.
If it's the latter, you might want to look for instructions on a full reflash of the watch's firmware.

You will have to keep the feature on and keep on correcting brightness when it's too low, until the system finally understands your preferences
It took me almost 2 full days constantly playing with brightness slider, but now it's all good :good:
Seems that brightness artificial inteligence is a bit lazy....

really? that's a lot of work for someone who unlocks the screen too often. i prefer older auto brightness where you set a base amount and forget it.

I agree with you, I think that the learning is a bit long and I don't understand the need to always go back to zero (it's painful)
But I must admit that once the system is calibrated, it is more efficient than the older one
This is because it is based not only on the ambient light, but also on your personal preferences.
Give it a try, If you unlock your phone very often it should take less time...
Pixel ambient services
I did not have this problem at all after updating to Pie. I never had to manually readjust.
Maybe try to train you light sensor by placing it under bright light (it should then be on the highest brightness) and afterwards in complete darkness (brightness should be lowest now).
After having witnessed very bright light and complete darkness, the sensor should already have it's baselines and should actually switch accordingly.
However if you for any reason still don't like the low brightness in dark rooms you would obviously do that manually.

Adaptive brightness

Hi
Does anyone else find the adaptive brightness feature useless on the OnePlus 7t? It is supposed to learn how you like it and I adjust it to where I want but it always seems to forget this settin and goes too dim on an evening. I adjust it again thinking it might stick this time but then goes at back to being dim.
Cheers
Same issue for me. I decided to keep it manual.
Apparently it takes a few days to learn the brightness you like. I'll give it a week or so and adjust it manually when needed to see if it sorts itself out.
I've opted to use velis auto brightness until they hopefully fix it. I gave it 5 or so days and it still dropped too low in dim light even though I was manually moving the slider up each time.
Velis auto brightness seems to work pretty well on Android 10 so far. I'm don't think it works on the lock screen and some of system settings screens but everything else seems fine.

Question Adaptive Brightness stuck.

On the 12L BETA.
My adaptive Brightness often gets stuck. It ramps up when I go outside then when I come in it stays bright. It is happening very often. I have cleared cache/reset the adaptive brightness under Device Health with no change.
Anyone else having this issue and does any one have any ideas on a fix?
