As the topic states, is there anyway to change hte screen size on a FireTV Stick? I have a 720p plasma that doesnt have a disable for the overscan and since I cant resize the display size on a Stick anymore, I am kinda hostage to losing the sides of everything.

Adb you can. I use adblink. Open command and type this below. These are settings I used. Do it from a laptop in front of the tv and you can watch it change as you type in numbers. Few tries to get it right
wm overscan 42,40,40,25

If you like a tighter crisp viewing experience, I can confirm that adjusting DPI down to 540 is stable.
I use Texdroider DPI, works with 5.1 :good:

On a side note-
There are several Nandroid backup options available, I use online Nandroid Backup w Nandroid Manager

Yes.
By stable, do you mean LG camera works too!? I tried 520 over the weekend and it kept FC, didn't think there was a sweet spot!
@540 camera works great. I haven't taken it down to 520.
Good feedback thanks
Ok, so I did this like I have on any other device by adjusting the build.prop with root explorer and I entered 540. And now I am in a boot loop.. any suggestions?
2 hours later.. had to flash stock firmware.
This is mine at 580. 540 starts to make things a little too small for these old eyes.

thanks. The adb method causes weirdness like blank shorcuts. I may have to break down and root.
540 working great thanks
The only issue I have with 540 is you can no longer switch between saving to the MicroSD card vs internal in the LG camera app.
For the record
If you want to change to 540dpi I would without a doubt use Kernel auditor or Es File Manager. If you edit your build prop with Root Explorer you will boot loop! Root Explorer opens the G3/G4 build prop in a TRuncated mode because the file is too large and when you save that file it will only save the available truncated portion, BE CAREFUL AND PAY ATTENTION. Setting to 540 dpi will not effect anything on your device, all other posts and problems are due to other issues. Please read and save yourself the KDZ flash time, friends.
Thank you
It doesn't require root.
Enable developer mode, and usb debugging.
Use Minimal adb and fastboot
open the folder
shift right click open command prompt from there
type adb shell wm density 540
This works on any device without root
I did 540 dpi today and I have to say I really like it. Everything is a bit smaller now, it has more like a tablet feel rather than a phone. But you get quite a bit more content on the screen, and for myself it's the perfect balance between readability and usability.

Yup this is how I do it. Lowering the DPI was one of the main reasons why I wanted root. Now I don't even care about root. I love the LG software and tweaks so there is not much I would change. I do like some XPOSED Status bar tweaks to do center clock and hide some of the million icons (alarm, nfc, location, vpn, 4G/3G, Cellular strength, WiFi etc.). LG goes overboard with icons man. I just want a 4G/3G+Signal & Battery OR WiFi & Battery. 2 icons max. Plus a clock of course... an option for a Center clock would be awesome.
There is a big difference changing dpi with adb shell wm density vs texdroider_dpi app. For me at least, when i change dpi with adb shell, some apps don't work right, like:
ebay: the menu that shows your profile pic and links to home watching, etc is screwed up
amazon: product pics, when you enlarge, you can't zoom in & out, can only see the top left corner
tinycam: on a single camera view, the video feed is zoome in about 10x
with textdroider, all of those apps work properly. Did anyone else experience this?
I have done 530 with adb command, but not with texdroider, is it safe to change to 530 with texdroider?
They should both be the same output. Although not all density settings are equal. Some settings cause weird issues like what you posted. I think I use 540 and don't experience anything weird.
Hi
I'm trying to change dpi in adb. Adb finds the device but when I'm typing "adb shell wm density 380" it doesn't work.
Anyone knows why?
Thx in advance
Try going into developer options and enable the security setting to on.

I think Xiaomi controlled the dpi using another variable, its called persistent density or something like that.. hence changing the normal density variable wont have any impact

Are USB debugging & USB debugging (Security settings) both enabled?
If I recall correctly, enabling USB debugging (Security settings) is a bit tricky.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-mix-2/how-to/guide-changing-min-width-dpi-miui-9-t3736218
this can be helpful for you. My dpi is now 290. If you go higher google keyboard change tablet mode.
I was able to change it using Activity Launcher using the tutorial below:
http://en.miui.com/thread-1093064-1-1.html
Default dpi is huge even at the smallest setting. I am using 320 and it's perfect, can see a lot of content without being too small
Just make sure Developer options has USB debugging (Security settings) enabled and use adb shell wm density 320
Big difference. Would be a waste to not see more content on such a big screen but also understand some people's eye sight may not be as good so they prefer bigger objects
320 vs Small setting
I used this tool to change dpi:

yup changing dpi without root is tricky. u need to enable security usb debugging. u need to use vpn apps.
got usb debugging on.
whats vpn tools?
anyway guys, thanks much. yea i have noticed that there are two options for usb debugging. look passed the other one.
now its working.
I just upgraded from Max 2 to Max 3... LOVE that i can change the DPI without rooting... had no trouble with either phone doing this. With the Max 2 i had it at 360, but with the Max 3 i'm trying 290....i may go up to 320 just because i need my glasses to see things like the battery % lol . No clue why Xiaomi didn't drop it below 400 out of the box but thrilled i can do it easily.

I use Font size 80%, Display size Custom (289), Smallest width 597 dp.
597 or 289dpi is the smallest dpi you can set before tablet mode is enabled in portrait mode.
If you rotate your phone watching a youtube video in full screen tablet mode is already enabled so the notification drawer is opened by swiping down on the left half side of the screen otherwise nothing will happen.
Setting Smallest width value is the easiest way to change dpi in the latest android versions.
Setting it to 596, 598 and 599 won't do anything.
It will either default back down to 595 or jump to 600 because it must represent a whole number in dpi.
It is crazy that pretty much ALL phones comes pre-configured out of the box at factory state with a dpi so large you can barely fit two words across the screen..really...I don't think anyone have this bad eyesight, if so then you need to get new glasses or lenses.
There are high index lenses out there that go to 1.9 and even beyond 2 if you really want to pay a lot if your prescription is crazy high to be able to enjoy a thin and light pair of glasses.
Like what is the purpose of getting a phone this big if you gonna have it display just as little as your old phone with third the screen size..isn't that why you wanted a bigger phone in the first place to get more screen estate, at least that's what I wanted..

I can't agree with you more. Just thankful it's so easy to change
On a side note...and i'm not sure it's related because I didnt' try before changing the dpi(i use the adb method)... my TSN app won't stream any channels. It gives me an error... i'm not sure if that's the DPI setting that caused it? Only app that doesn't work right. I'm going to have to play with that when i'm home from work as it worked on my Max 2 set at 360 no problems and the only main difference i can tell with the 2 phones is the version of Android.
Edit: nevermind it wasn't the DPI setting... i allowed TSN GO to work in full screen mode and that did it.
Love the phone!
I tried using the adb command and while it does adjust the DPI, the keyboard will shrink to a point where its impossible to actually type, but the size of the screen elements are to my liking.
I didnt see ro.sf.lcd.density in my build.prop so I added it in but it doesn't seem to be doing anything on a reboot. On my 6P I was able to adjust the DPI with this line and the keyboard wouldnt shrink so it was still usable for my thumbs.
Has anyone found a way to adjust the DPI outside of the adb command that would give more screen real estate without compromising keyboard usability? Maybe some values you guys are liking that you can suggest to me.
Thank you

Oh i should have mentioned that as well. Shrinks the keyboard like crazy. Ideally I want a way that shrinks everything BUT Swiftkey. Today in a different thread I found you can shrink everything and scale up GBoard which may be what I end up doing but Im a bit stubborn since on the 6P I was able to shrink everything but swiftkey.
Are you talking about Swiftkey specifically? I changed the display size in Display settings, and the default Gboard keyboard stayed the same size when the display size was both Default, and then when I went up a size. It stayed the same. I expected it to get bigger, but it didn't. Unless it did, and I didn't notice, but when I put the display size back to default the keyboard stayed the same size cause it looked almost too big compared to the rest of the display. Does your default Gboard keyboard get bigger/smaller when changing the display size?
Hey guys,
I've purchased a projector for my room however the wall i'm trying to project onto is too small and so it projects onto the walls beside it, and from what i've understood Amazon removed the video calibration feature so i'm unable to set the screen size unfortunately however with kodi it works fine and i'm able to shrink the screen size
I was wondering if theres any way to shrink the screen size like sideloading apks or anything
I tried using ADBlink and using wm overscan however it cuts off half the video
For the sake of fun I enabled USB debugging and used adb to change the density of the display window from 420 to 320. Looks great on the large display and the amount of info you see compared to the default value might be interesting to some of you.

I used this trick in the past on many of my devices and it's now a habit.

In dpi, bigger the no., smaller the things on screen. So you ha e more stuff to see..
Mine is 1200 so everything is Tiny. I actually have to increase the font size to read everything

I tried 1200 DPI in developer settings which was fine for everything except the lock screen when I unfolded the phone while locked. It cut off the numbers on the left and right side of the keypad for entering my pin to unlock it. I use fingerprint recognition 99.9% of the time.

Yes. That is the only issue I have seen so far. I mostly use face unlock or finger as well.
I would like to just increase the font size on the front screen I've already adjusted the minimum width settings from the insider screen but the outside screen fonts are still to small . I've noticed that when you go in the minimum width settings from the front screen the numbers are different then when u go in from the inside screen and if you try and adjust them from the front outer screen they won't stick they just default to there original numbers ?
My sweet spot is 744dp and Font size in the middle.

Maybe you can adjust the font size to fit outer screen, then change the minimum width on inner screen until the font size is comfortable.
