-ALERT- Miui Pie Beta (Official and Miui EU) breaking TWRP - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Questions & Answers

Good day everyone
Yesterday i wanted to test the latest Pie Miui ROM for whyred, i had 2 options , the official beta pie and Xiaomi EU weekly pie, i choose EU...
As always in TWRP, format, wipe all, and flash from OTG.... flawless clean install, tested the Rom (same as old 8.1 miui 10) few changes.....
Ok, i wanted to go back to Havok....
So.... as always i went to TWRP wipe everything, then format then wipe (yes i format and wipe many times always).... and that´s all , my TWRP can't read OTG or internal, i wiped the system so i dont have any OS... i always clean flash from OTG.
I always wipe and format data every clean isntall for custom roms (AOSP)....
Now nothing works in TWRP , even the vibration has gone(haptic feedback when touchscreen in TWRP)...
I tried some java tool app, i can change beteen official TWRP, ORANGE, etc, but every custom recovery has the same issue....
Cant read OTG, cant mount, cant...
I need help, im not very skill in this things my whyred is my main device.....
Please people, theres a new cancer and is more bad than ARB !!

Haptic feedback is broken on OrangeFox, but Recovery works well, Just flash any MIUI from MiFlash (based on Oreo), reinstall TWRP and you can restore your backup of Havoc if you have one

It's normal, It doesn't support MIUI Pie on our device, and data is encrypted, not a big issue if you use apps like Titanium Backup, if you Need to flash another ROM just format Data and you're good to go, at least it's not completely broken like TWRP

No problem I have booted it with TWRP flashed by micro SD on orange fox.
My RN5 soft bricked after flash the leaked pie with orange fox on unencrypted Arrow OS , the encription blocked my boot.
For fix see this:
1) Flash official latest TWRP from micro SD
2) Format Data
3) Reboot recovery
4) Reflash Pie leaked
5) Wipe data
6) Boot on Pie
You lose the TWRP but your RN5 work.
Now I have pie beta and fastboot not work , I am stucked on MIUI Pie with stock recovery and no-root.
Wait for a fix for return on ArrowOS , you have only a soft brick if you have not performed a downgrade.
Sorry for bad english.....
TWRP Read it 100% you have'nt bricked your RN5.
Buy a MicroSD and no worry , your phone its alive
Mi Flash not recognize it , you can boot only by clean flash by micro SD and you can flash only Pie Beta and boot it after a format data.
After boot wipe data from MIUI recovery for clean installation.
If you have TWRP and Pie beta , perform a format data and a factory reset and boot on Pie.
Copy Pie beta and TWRP on microSD and test my tutorial.

Reflash Miui Pie and perform a format data , for me work , but I have flashed only Pie Beta from Orange and no other 8.1 firmware based AOSP Pie Roms after this leaked.
Only my issue are on Encryption from orange , with TWRP format data and a clean flash from micro sd I have fixed it and booted on Pie Miui.
Fastboot and MiFlash not work for me with Miui Pie beta this is my only issue now
And I go back to AOSP ArrowOS.
FOR OTHER USERS DONT FLASH MIUI PIE BETA , AOSP ARE BETTER FOR NOW.

First of all as long as you're able to boot into TWRP then this is absolutely not a hard brick, hard brick means you won't be able to do anything even booting into recovery, so no need to worry.
Once you flashed this release you can't use any older version of MIUI OR even custom ROMs unless you flash an old firmware, for example 9.3.14 which is the latest oreo and i don't suggest you to do that because it's only a matter of time and you will update, even the custom ROMs will be updated to the new vendor, so it's useless to do that, i also had a useless device when i went back to oreo like no vibration, earpiece, camera....etc but i only flashed fw-less not the whole ROM.
My suggestion is to flash pie .eu since it has no encryption so you won't face issues and stick with this build and don't try to do anything, and BTW as you said there's no vibration on TWRP so don't worry, I've the same now, TWRP can read my internal and external without any issues but if you've exFAT SD card it won't work on the system, no support for exFAT yet but on recovery it's fine so again don't worry.
I know it's a real pain in the ass but it's a matter of time until the recoveries get updated, also pie is really awesome, the system is very fluid. Hope that will helps.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the TWRP isn't recognizing the PC, tried orange and the official.

Hi I do have the same problem but I recovered from it .
Being stucked on miui pie i accidentally wiped system and I can't boot into system and because of decryption issue with recovery I don't know what to do
Here what I done
Flashed system ,userdata, boot, cache images from fastboot ROM after that I booted into system. There waits a surprise for me camera, earpiece and some other stuff are not working.
On that ROM from system update I chose choose update package and selected 9.3.14 beta . After the system updates to latest beta I got everything working fine .
Note: I'm on ARB4 and flashed roms with ARB4.

I have no issues, but I already had encryption with PIN so ?

Hey guys, I tried the SD card method but it not works,
Here's what I did
Put all my files into sdcard
Went to recovery
Installed orange fox recovery
After selecting advance wipe, then it gave me error that unable to wipe.

Internal memory loss - Installing twrp - Locked BL - Mi Max 32GB

Hi Guys,
I installed TWRP in my Mi Max (32GB) (locked BL) yesterday by replacing stock recovery.img with twrp image and flashing that miui8 dev build through MiFlash in EDL mode. After that my total space was showing nearly 8GB.
To mention, I followed all steps properly like clearing dalvik and cache as well as formatting system, data, internal mem but the same happened.
Again I completely removed mods and installed stock, 24GB space was regained. But now when this time also I installed Resurrection Remix CM13 in the same way as no other way worked for locked BL and unlocking bug has really frustrated me, same thing happened.
Somebody please take up this issue and help me. I wonder how people who installed CM13 RR on locked BL are not facing this issue..
hi karanhv post ur question in q&a forum that way more people will be able to respond to u . anyways from what i gathered ur trying to install global developer build over the global stable that came with ur phone so that u could unlock ur device so that u could flash custom rom like cm or rr . good news is that u can do that without unlocking ur bootloader just follow this guide here from step 1-17 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-max/how-to/guide-install-global-miui8-root-t3435594 . just substitute the rom with cm or rr(personally tested by me on global dev rom.)
but things get a bit tricky if u want to stay on stock miui but want to have a custom recovery and root.skip steps 12,13,14,15. and go thru steps 16 & 17.now u will have stock miui with twrp recovery . now if u want to update the stock miui.go to updater app> click the 3 dot button on upper rt side> click on "download update" > the update will downloaded to "downloaded_rom" folder in ur internal storage.now boot to twrp recovery by switching of phone & switching it on again this time holding the vol+ button while it boots up.now after u boot into twrp recovery ,install the zip file that has been downloaded in the "downloaded rom" folder, immidiately after the install, flash supersu zip.now dont reboot yet, using TWRP's file manager navigate to system folder and delete file named "recovery from boot" and then reboot into system thus u will be updated on stock miui while still retaining root and twrp recovery. hope this clears up for u .if u follow all these steps u wont be faced with any memory loss
easy solution

I had the same problem with 64gb version.
In twrp go to wipe
Click option to delete data partition
It will tell you all data will be deleted and encryption disabled.
After data partition gets deleted twrp will report proper internal space, and ROM will also report proper internal space.
Be sure to backup everything before.

[Recovery] TWRP 3.1.1 (unofficial)

I was looking for a TWRP for the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. I've found a chinese board where a user called YouLinw compiled TWRP for us. According to him and the users there (Google Translator) it seems to work. Can't test it by now, because my Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 isn't shipped right now. It was really tricky to register in this chinese board and then to download the file. You can download it yourself in the board and for all other users I made a mirror with no registration.
There's now a new english TWRP from Xiaomi.eu.
I don't take any responsibilities for this file. If you break or damage your phone, it's your fault!
The recovery is in chinese - but you shuold be able to use it with screenshots in your language.

Great find! Any idea what version of SuperSU can be used to root The device ?
In this chinese board there's something written like, that SuperSu 2.82 is suitable for the Mix 2 (without guarantee).

Can confirm, superSU 2.82 works on Xiaomi EU rom version 7.9.22
unable to mount /system after nadroid backup
TWRP installed fine and experienced no issues until I made a full Nandroid backup. After the backup I have issues flashing because the device is unable to mount /system . busy or in use error.
So now I wait until official TWRP.
If you are having any twrp issues just reboot into twrp and the issues will be gone. Try again!

For the life of me I cannot get this TWRP to do anything. My phone came with Global 8.5 Stable. I confirmed my bootloader is unlocked. I flashed the TWRP and booted it, it boots fine but trying to backup anything I get Failed to unmount "/system" (Device or resource busy). I tried to reboot back into TWRP still same problem, I tried to reflash TWRP through both fastboot and TWRP image installer. I downloaded the EU rom and tried to flash it and it also failed to flash. OEM unlock is checked, USB debugging is on. TWRP gets over written with the Mi Mix recovery whenever I boot back into system, it doesn't ask me if I want to modify anything when it first boots. Why is this giving me so much trouble I've never encountered this problem with TWRP. Any Advice?.
Thanks much

There is still no official TWRP available. I always do a full wipe factory reset and manual wipe everything before flashing anything. I also get the errors, but I've never tried to restore a backup because I usually just do clean installs each time because the ROMs available right now aren't stable enough for daily use.
The trick for EU rom is complete wipe than boot back into TWRP and try flashing. You will get 2 errors but will install fine. You can install USB drive or transfer EU rom through mtp via TWRP.
I'll do it like @allrockedout
It seems this TWRP is more beta than stable :-/
Also check the "Mount" button and uncheck the option to open all partitions readonly.
Then reboot TWRP. Last but not least before performing any flash operations (ROM or Magisk/SU-Stuff) check all partitions as marked - then do your flash work
i also miss some more partition that are available to other devices like EFS.
Did anyone know about another TWRP version or devs that are working on one?

I wanted to go back to the my AICP nougat after seeing how horrible the battery life became in 3.5.243ST_Deodex. To my nightmare, I got the fix encryption msg on first boot. So, thinking its clearly with hendi's TWRP alone, I flashed the TWRP 3.2.1-0 from TWRP website but all my stuff disappeared (encrypted perhaps). Had to format everything. So those who want to ONLY use 3.5.243 deodex and not to jump roms afterwards, this recovery is good. It's included by default in the rom so it gets overwritten anyway if u are flashing 3.5.243_ST Deodexed. Just a warning for others so that they don't suffer as me.

As i mention before dearest brother, if you read first post, zui oreo by default will encrypted and not allow you to access internal storage from recovery for security reason, if you using or flashing with official TWRP,
not because zui oreo deodexed,
if you want switch back to custom rom first
keep stay in unofficial twrp don't hurry to flash official twrp because you internal storage in state encrypted by zui oreo,
next wipe data/art catche, cache, and system, then you can flash custom rom,
after rebooting you can change to any twrp as you like, so your data still intact
Happy flashing
Can it also be used for the ZUK Edge?

+1 that that just like a magic!Ahhh
Flashing AEX wouldnt encrypt ur device but some treble ROM indeed.
But u can flash the universal decrypting patches after flashing a data-encrypted ROM in a treble-supported TWRP instead.
Can you please update the link, can't download the file with MEGA link,
Here's my situation, I can't flash anything with TWRP cause it can't mount Data & internal storage,
I can use OTG though, But, I can boot into my phone normally, IF I connect a charger while it's at White ZUK logo, but if I unplug the charger and try to play PUBGM (or any power hungry tasks), it shuts down immediately, I'm on deodexed ZUI 4 BTW. I can use the phone as long as it's connected to the charger without any issues, Just can't figure out if it's a software issue, or is it with my battery.

custom roms do not boot up

hi there,
i used crDroidAndroid-8.1-20180606-riva-v4.3 but there were color problems i didnt know 2 fix so i decided 2 flash a new rom resp. a newer version but no custom rom boots up.
when it tries 2 boot is freezes at the boot screen, then screen switches off and nothing happens. i can go 2 fastboot and recovery.
sometimes it boots up but after a few seconds it freezes 2.
i tried different roms and recoveries but nothing works.
i foolishly wiped internal storage once but then i flashed the stock rom again which boots up. then i unlocked the bootloader and flashed a custom recovery and a rom again but the same error is there (no booting up)
anyone got a solution for this problem? no unbricking suggestions plz
edit: im in the wrong thread i think. i wanted 2 post it in "Guides, News, & Discussion". cant delete it. sry for that

i also tried 2 log "cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kernel_message_log.txt"
and "dmesg > /sdcard/kernel_boot_log.txt" via terminal in linux but it only sais file or directory not found.
i hope sum1 can give me sum help now.

cmon guys. i can impossibly b the only 1 who faces this problem.
i dont think its a hardware thing cause stock rom and android 7.1.2 (viper os) work. maybe a vendor problem? could flash another vendor img solve this problem? can sum1 send me his?
i got sum more logs after flashing rr 7.0:
logcat 1st part: https://pastebin.com/EBZAgbhF
logcat 2nd part: https://pastebin.com/qaMFrvxi
dmesg: https://pastebin.com/Gg8bYkJy

Fastboot flash latest miui 10 stable using mi flash tool and use the rom after setting up. Then flash custom recovery and do a full wipe.
This works for most cases.

Crdroid is my choice because aex and rr are very early builds. I like pixel experience but the devs not updating it so crdroid or havoc os.
Like i said use Xiaomi flash tool and flash miui 10 stable via fastboot method(there are 3 options in the bottom select flash all instead of flash and lock to avoid unlocking the bootloader again), don't flash anything else, setup and use the phone, flash recovery wipe all and format, install rom, don't flash gapps yet, boot into rom and see if its fixed.
Use vendor based recovery, if using batik recovery you have to flash batik recovery again after format.
This is my solution.

i did it several times before but 2 b safe i did it again like that:
i flashed riva_global_images_V10.1.1.0.NCKMIFI_20181029.0000.00_7.1_global_f444c158ed.tgz using XIAOMI-TOOL-MiFlash-for-Linux-by-IceMan-master. im on linux mint 18.3. i have 4 options:
flash_all_lock.sh
flash_all_lock_crc.sh
flash_all_except_data_storage.sh
flash_all.sh
i chose flash_all.sh
i booted into the stock rom and set it up, enabled dev options and adb.
then i switched it off, went into bootloader, flashed twrp-3.2.3-0-riva.img via fastboot.
after that i entered twrp, flashed OrangeFox-R8.3-riva.zip and rebooted into recovery
i wiped everything except external sd and usb otg (i dont have these)
after a reboot intorecovery i formatted data then rebooted in recovery
i flahed crDroidAndroid-9.0-20181002-riva-v5.0.zip
then reboot into system
no success as i expected! wtf is wrong wtf. this cant b true!
but thank u very much for ur efforts! perhaps i would try 2 restore a vendor img from sum1 which rom does work. i know its a great demand but could u send me urs? ;D i dont know if there r sum personal info..
best regards
Don't give up there might be a solution.
Pray to God for some help.

Currently I am using Xiaomi.eu beta rom. You can check their website for all the features. Its smooth, stable and can update without needing to got the recovery:victory:
This should work for you because unlike other roms this is based on miui for riva. That means you will get updates till Xiaomi ditches support for riva.
I recommend you use this rom over the global rom until you fix the problem with your phone.
Some things missing:
Choice of region is limited( India is not available)
There is no custom kernel available for miui oreo as of now.
Magisk safetynet not passed
If you're going flash this rom you need to be on latest global beta fastboot rom and need a recovery that supports oreo base.
I use batik recovery base oreo.

dont u have 2 wait 2 weeks or so till bootloader is unlocked?
what exactly do u mean with won't boot up? bootloop? or stuck at boot logo?
after flashing a custom recovery, did u boot directly into the system or did u try 2 boot into recovery? sometimes the stock recovery overwrites the custom 1 when stock rom boots up
my problem is solved. i remembered that i made a full nandroid backup with twrp before i flashed a new rom and the problem appeared. so i restored everything i backed up with twrp (incl cust) and voila, rom booted up. and i can wipe system and data and flash every rom i wanna and it still boots up \o/
i really could have tried it earlier but i didnt think of this untill yesterday ;D
well, thx for ur efforts anyway buddy @NaAnBcEhEuL9A8K7

Try the lastest TWRP in this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p8...wrp-3-3-1-0-huawei-p8-lite-2017-t3953122/amp/
After installing system.img, u need to resize the system partition, until see the used space ~17xxmb and free ~18xx mb,
after that flash gapps
and MUST flash Magisk Phh 19.3
the flash the patch file.
After first boot, you need to, format data in erecovery
Everything works smoothly except......can not make and receive calls, ooopss
update, i try to roll back to emui8, and start the process again. it works now.
recommend to update, lets teach the old dog new trick
A big job ahead ?. I will try and I will tell you if it works thank you for your answer. One last question is there a way to keep a custom recovery because sometimes magisk's module causes a botloop (sorry for my bad English ?)

So I came back (finally) to emui 8 and I tried to install the recovery custom but I still cannot access the internal storage memory.
I think it comes from my model because I have a Huawei GR5 2017 which is supposed to be a 'copy' of the honor 6x but all the roms which require emui 5.x installed do not work.
In any case thank you very much for your help! [emoji106]

The trick is you need 2 twrp.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-iErvJefoFri7HKNEU8uSnYo8kmIyVd9/view?usp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MnFBplsp3nZ3b0BiJ764cV67kHXeRzL4/view?usp=sharing
use twrp-3.3.1emui8v2.img for everything
In the last step after everything flashed, you flash the other twrp huaweitwrp.img
reboot into that twrp
chooose advances; fix encryption
reboot system, then you can access internal memory
the same process with android 10.
mine is also Gr5 2017 and now running 10, no bug

Has anyone tried these github projects to unlock the bootloader of his Honor (6X) or Huawei Device?
Maybe it is possible to accelerate these programs by using cuda cores on nvidia graphic card(s).

I managed to find a compatible recovery but when I flashed everything and I did a factory reset from the erecovery the phone restarts and it displays the logo lineageOs for 5 seconds then it restarts and the screen remains black then it restarts and displays the logo then it restarts in erecovery telling me that the memory has been seriously damaged.
I think I will give up here([emoji28])but anyway thank you for your help [emoji106].

at first it says encryption unsuccessful then i was told to format the date from twrp, now it stuck on boot animation, i have left it overnight and it reboots to bootloader with code BFM_S_NATIVE_DATA_FAIL 211 NA

first thing first in case you mess everything up, i found out this guide to be some sort of remedy for all problems regarding honor 6x, because from here you will install stock emui 5 which you can use to upgrade to stock emui 8 from this guide
use the guide above if you want to go back to stock rom because every single custom rom will require you to flash from the stock rom
next i follow the guide provided here, after flashing the patch go back to stock oreo recovery which is available on the emui 8 folder you downloaded earlier
do factory reset and wipe cache after that load to bootloader again
finally flash huaweitwrp.img provided by lusci on the post #7
boot to system and enjoy

These are the steps (thanks @DunoCZ) I followed if an Honor 6X user want to install this ROM:
- *Upgrade to EMUI 8!*
- *Remove the saved fingerprints and Google Accounts just in case*
- Flash the TWRP recovery from @Dil3mm4
- Format cache, dalvik cache, data and system: TWRP -> Wipe -> Advanced Wipe
- Flash the ROM via TWRP (you can try with fastboot but it already works with TWRP): TWRP -> Install -> Install Image
- Resize the system partition: TWRP -> Wipe -> Advanced Wipe -> System -> Resize (DO NOT FORMAT!)
- (Optional) Install GApps, Magisk
- (Required) Install patch
- Reboot and wait

Yea, i cant get it to work. No matter what i do after
- flashing system.img
- resizing the system partition
- installing opengapps
- installing magisk
- installing the patch
followed by either:
-straight up booting it.
- doing everything i can in every bootloader.
evenm if i freshly format /data the system get stuck in a boot. Have tried all of the recoveries in this thread. All are basically the same, from what i have observed.
Edit: Figured it out. apparently my gapps was somehow broken. Downloaded a fresh arm64-ogapps and all is working now

Ok let me make it simple for you.
1. Flash stock Oreo Rom (no need to boot it)
2. Flash TWRP by Dilemma in fastboot.
3. Go to recovery and wipe data by typing yes to decrypt data partition (if not already decrypted)
4. Go to fastboot and flash system.img
5. Reboot to recovery and resize system partition
6. Flash GApps
7. Flash los patches zip
8. Flash disable Dm verity patch
9. Flash magisk-phh zip in the end.
10. Reboot and wait.
I used these steps to flash different GSIs/ROMs and it works perfectly.
I managed to flash the rom but without flashing the gapps because I don't know exactly which one to flash should I flash gapps for android 10 arm64 or gapps for android 8.0 ??
try both and it gives me error 20
