So, I have AOISP on my phone, and TWRP was on it and it worked flawlessly. I performed an update to AOISP, which it installs like an OEM update, not simply flash in TWRP, but installs behind the scenes. Of course I knew TWRP would go away after updating this way. Now anytime I do the usual method to get TWRP again, you know, fastboot boot twrp.... you know the drill, my phone boots into TWRP, but twrp just doesn't respond. I'm used to the whole first couple of touches will say wrong password because of the touch issue, but it eventually works. Right now, it just doesn't respond at all. Anyone else face this and have a fix for it. I'd rather not have to use the flash-all.bat file and wipe everything. I'm sure considering I'm on AOSIP I can't just simply remove the -w and everything work just fine. Oh and I've tried multiple twrps as well. 3.2.3-3 and I've tried 3.2.3-5.
I don't have a solution, unfortunately, but I am experiencing the same issue.

I had this too. The fix that worked for me. Haven't tried the time to reproduce is. When you fastboot boot twrp.img and it loads. Touch will stop.
Then reboot via buttons and get to fastboot again by buttons (power and vol down). Select recovery and wait for recovery to boot again. Once that happened touch worked again for me.
I tried various other versions of twrp and none work. But this did.
Again not sure if I can reproduce this as I have not had the time.
Also have not had the chance to try rebooting into twrp from system after flashing it to see if the issue continues.

What are you using for your screen lock security? If something other than PIN, try either setting it to PIN or None. There is a dedicated TWRP thread where you may find your answer or at least get more visibility.

I experienced the same TWRP gone after the update, but I flashed it again with Fk manager. It then booted perfectly into TWRP version 3.5. From there, I reflashed Magisk. Now all is working perfectly.

So as the title says, after flashing cm14. 1 can't go into recovery anymore, it just a black screen. I tried to use flashify but nothing, a couple of apps show that I have twrp 3.0.2.1 but can't get into it... Help?

Same situation here. Neither booting the recovery via fastboot without flashing nor flashing the TWRP an then booting into it result in black screen. Flashify gives no results here. Please help.
EDIT; flashing this one via fastboot restores the access to TWRP, confirming it right now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=21065&task=get

Yeah man im in the same boat, if i get time ill try this twrp recovery. Where did that recovery come from?, it seems like the CM recovery for 14.1 nightly high jacks the recovery partition (i call it that,i dont know the term for it)

I would like to truly confirm that the direct link to recovery, along with the thread in which it can be found, repair the situation. I was able to restore the backup of Freedom OS and the return to CM14.1 backup. We should keep this one somewhere near, jsut in case.
Thanks a lot guys, that did the trick, and done with flashify

Just re flash the TWRP image via Fastboot. Apps like flashify actually use TWRP or whatever recovery installed to flash image file AFAIK. I recommend using modified TWRP,Flashing some roms break the access. But the modified one can withstand almost every new rom installs.
Hope it helps.
Why i have always mount decrypt data when i boot in recovery mode which is TWRP 3.0.2-22 aand ask me to input a password?
Edit: I found the solution, i had a pattern lock screen and i removed it!

At some point your phone data became encrypted. While booted up if you search for encrypt in settings you'll see your phone is encrypted.
Same thing happened to me yesterday after flashing 3.2.7 and booting up for the first time before going back to TWRP to flash AICP. Only way to decrypt permanently, as far as I know, is to wipe all data including internal and completely start from scratch.

After I got the recovery back, I flashed CM13 again and ARM64 6.0 Nano Gapps for my Oneplus 3, but I'm getting an error after the "preparing apps' screen is loaded saying that - unfortunately the process android.process.media has stopped one plus 3 boot and then the phone switches off.
Any solution to this? I've already tried flashing different versions of CM13.
Thank you!! I was looking for hours.

Hey, guys. I'm pretty sure I bricked my phone and there's no way to get out.
So I was on CM13 official builds on my OP3. Then, on the OTA update system they have, I got moved onto the CM14.1. I downloaded from here and went into my twrp recovery to flash. I made a clean flash and then proceeded to go back to system. I thought everything was ok until I realised I hadn't flashed a gapps package which I pretty much need to survive as all my contacts backups etc. are on there. I powered off my phone and went to go back into the recovery after downloading gapps 7.1 micro. It went past the *You're device can not be trusted'* and then went to the oneplus screen. After that, it stayed like that for about 30 secs and powered off. At first, I thought I messed something up and tried again. I repeated that for about 3 times and it didn't work. I tried going into the normal system and coming back to recovery and it didn't work still. In fact, now I can't even get into system. Now, i can only boot up to fastboot, where my computer still doesn't realise my phone is plugged in.
Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? I wouldn't say I'm a noob at this because I have flashed many times before but I'm relatively new to the scene. I didn't see this thread before i ripped my hair out and i think wrecked my phone @JKMB888
EDIT: I sorted it out with help from Naman Bhalla's unbrick thread and this. A certain combo works and now I'm on CM14.1 enjoying life
Hello guys,
As stated in the title, I can not boot into recovery since I flashed CM 14.1. I already tried reflashing TWRP, booting TWRP via fastboot, using another, more recent TWRP image.
This is rather urgent, since, although I can boot CM 14.1 without any problem, I forgot to do a Titanium Backup of two apps, so I have to restore a nandroid backup to get those back, which is kind of hard, without access to TWRP. Using TWRP Explorer is out of question, since that, as far as I know, does not work with encrypted backups.
Flashing via Flashify does not work either.
I just tried with the most recent CM Recovery, that does work, but that does not really help, since that won't restore TWRP Backups..
Greetings

That did not work, at least not with the official TWRP. Flashing this TWRP gave me TWRP back, but now restoring the Backup somehow did not work as expected, the old CM 14.1 unofficial build that is in that backup won't boot.
I'll try only restoring the data part onto the official build, is there anything else you can recommend? Another firmware? Something?
Oh and by the way, thank you, for helping here and for you CM 14.1 builds, somehow I couldn't build CM 14.1 and 14, so having your builds was really helpful.
What version of OOS was you on prior to flashing CM14.1?

Directly upon receiving my OP3 I flashed CM13, that was in August, so 3.2.4 I guess, and I flashed the firmware of 3.2.6 before flashing Takers and your CM14 and later 14.1 builds.
TWRP behaves funny, the progress of restoring Data is already at 138%, 6800MB of 4899MB, the calculation is not taking compression into account I guess?
LOOOL, I have booted into the official CM14.1 with the old data, no fc or anything, but my pattern does not work anymore. same pattern as before, won't be accepted.
Never seen that issue before what happens if you reboot into the bootloader and then connect the phone to your pc and type fastboot boot <name of recovery> does it boot up?
Of course replace the < > with the name of the img file.

Yes, TWRP works now, but the backed up unofficial CM 14.1 does not boot.
But, only this TWRP works, booting the official TWRP does not work.
I could probably just use the TWRP file manager to extract the few files from the data partition that I need, but this is a workaround and not a fix, and that is not desired in most cases. Fixing it is hard without someone that still has a broken system.

Do you know how one would debug something like that? I have nothing but the splash screen in the beginning and then a black screen
I will just flash CM 14.1 and manually extract my OTP tokens from the data backup, so I don't really need to debug that, but it would probably help determine the cause and properly fix it for the future.
Ask for the link

Can you get into fastboot?
If so, you can sideload a working TWRP via there.
Hi all,
*I've unlocked bootloader
* Have tried fastboot boot TWRP.img, as well as tried flashing TWRP RC1 via the Skipsoft toolkit.
Every way I've tried the phone just sits at the TWRP boot screen and doesn't allow me to go any further..
Any help here would be truly appreciated!
Cheers,
I've been having the same issue tonight. Re-flash the stock image, go through the whole setup process and make sure you add a lockscreen pin, then flash TWRP. That is what worked for me. I still can't flash a Rom though for some reason. It's driving me insane.

You're braver than me. I haven't had my Pixel XL long but this is the first phone I've ever owned where I am afraid to try and install a custom recovery and ROM. With the dual partitions and what I hear about TWRP still being buggy it just seems like Google didn't want people to run anything but pure Android on the Pixels.

Same issue here, but no solution. Adding a lockscreen pin didn't change anything for me. I just get a teamwin image but it just sits there & doesn't actually open TWRP. My bootlocker is unlocked but thats as far as I can get 7.1.2 with May security. I have tried reloading everything and followed commonly recommended steps.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated. I would love to get this thing rooted and get some ROM flexibility - even to just get rid of the Nav Bar ....

I have never had a problem. Make sure your using the rc1 fast boot TWRP. Should be fastboot boot twrp.img. I change file name to this or copy and paste. Then you install rc1 or rc2 zip.
I know you will have problems if you try to install the wrong file.

That strange. I just flash a factory image from Google
Set up a security pattern
Enable adb debugging
Fastboot boot twrp 3.0.2-0 rc1 IMG
Make sure it asks for your security pattern if it doesn't reboot to bootloader and fastboot twrp again, and keep repeating until it does
Install twrp 3.1.0.0 rc2 or rc1 zip
If your using may bootloader's fish VBS 6 zip
And it should stick, if you flash. Anything else that messes with boot flash that VBS zip at the end again

Fastboot boot twrp 3.0.2-0 rc1 IMG
Make sure it asks for your security pattern if it doesn't reboot to bootloader and fastboot twrp again, and keep repeating until it does
Install twrp 3.1.0.0 rc2 or rc1
If your using may bootloader's fish VBS 6 zip
And it should stick, if you flash. Anything else that messes with boot flash that VBS zip at the end again

Hmm, maybe this is where I've gone wrong.. I thought the need to create a security pin/pattern was only if coming from a previously rooted state, or from a custom ROM. I will try this as well and report back.. thanks!

If you download the offiial april firmware, you can manually extract it from the .zip then you would do this command in fastboot :--------- fastboot flash bootloader PUTFILEHERE.img
EDIT: Are you able to get into TWRP by any chance??

Unable to get into twrp as previously mentioned. I flash the IMG file, then it just hangs on the TWRP boot screen..

Alright, try doing what I mentioned. Download April firmware, extract the bootloader.img from it and flash using command above.

This seems likely to work. Thanks for the suggestions, and I'll report back! Cheers!

I'm no expert but it's seems like a decent suggestion. Let us know how it goes.
@mazubo
You keep stating that you just flash the image. Are you flashing it from the bootloader then trying to boot to recovery?
You have to boot TWRP from your PC first. Then from TWRP you can then "flash" TWRP.
Just wanted to make sure that was a step you were taking!
Just wait. It will take little longer

Yes, I have tried fastboot to flash the TWRP img, as well as skipsofts toolkit. I guess I've been using the term "flash" for fastboot, as I haven't been able to use twrp yet.. I understand that you need to flash the TWRP img via pc and then flash the TWRP zip, then SuperSU or magisk, whatever your poison may be !
I flashed the February via fastboot last night (no wipe), unlocked phone just fine. Then fastbooted into latest twrp, but twrp does not recognize my pattern!
When I adb side loaded the latest romaur via twrp, the phone itself wouldn't recognize the pattern upon reboot.
I deleted the (only) fingerprint file in data, and that just broke login completely.
I then clean flashed Feb Ota via fastboot, set up the phone (single account), then fastbooted into latest twrp, but twrp still did not recognize my pattern!
I was able to add sideload magisk via twrp, but don't know how to decrypt in recovery.
Any ideas?
TWRP is currently broken for the February update so the only way is to completely remove your lockscreen.

So...disable lock screen, fastboot to TWRP again, do Kernel, do magisk, reboot and redo lockscreen?
EDIT: The above worked. I was able to see my files...however ElementalX is taking a long time to install...it says it's finished but just sitting there. No button to hit okay on, etc.
EDIT2: Kernel is fine. Something with TWRP possibly. I flashed TWRP instead of booting to it and tried again and it went fine. My phone is back to working lol.

That's what I did and it worked beautifully! You can check some of the kernel topics in development and they talk about the issue. Same with the TWRP topic they talk about the issue.

Do you mean disable screen lock? I don't know how to disable lock screen.

Yep, screen lock is correct. Just set it to swipe before you begin.
Without fail, when running the latest twrp, I get an error when flashing different rom zips. It's always the same error during step 1 and sometimes during step 2. I am on slot A when flashing the room, by the way.
The error just says it can't flash, there is no error code or description or anything like that.
When I was able to flash a rom, I tried to reboot into B for the vendor image, but none of my files were viewable, only folders with numbers and letters.
I'm confused, and I'm not a noob. I came from the regular Pixel and I was able to flash no problem.

Is this when you fastboot into twrp, or do you have twrp already installed? Have you tried disabling screen lock before you enter twrp? And I assume you've run both bootloader unlocking commands as well?
This is when using skipsoft.
Do I need to run the critical flashing command manually or something? The reason I ask is because I'm not sure skipsoft does that.
I'd love to be able to flash alll this stuff without even using twrp but I'm not sure that's possible.
So I boot twrp, wipe and flash the ROM. But it fails right there. Is there a step I'm missing?
I do know how to flash individual images thru fastboot by the way, like when going to stock. Here is where I did do the critical flash command.
No I haven't tried to disable screen lock.

Typically you need to have fully unlocked the bootloader with these 2 commands...
fastboot flashing unlock
and.....
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
Especially the critical, or else you won't be able to flash any roms. I don't know if skipsoft will do this. I know the Deuces scrip will. To find out what is/isn't unlocked run.....fastboot getvar all....
Then you'll know. If you have to unlock critical, which I think you will, it'll wipe your phone completely. So backup your files and such before you do :good:
Any manual methods that work? I mean to flash the roms.

I believe there is, but I can't find what it is. I think it's adb push (name of file) or adb sideload through twrp, butI could be wrong. Either way, you first need to be sure your fully bootloader unlocked before you can flash anything.

Ok I almost forgot.
When I first unlocked the phone I was able to flash Nitrogen, both the ROM and twrp. But when I rebooted recovery to get to slot B, all I saw were various numbered and lettered folders. Looked like registry folders for Windows.

Well that changes things a little. You at least have unlocked one partition then. And you can update factory images via fastboot? If so, then your fully unlocked. So you've got a twrp decryption error on slot B. You may want to disable screen lock security, and try again. You could also try fastbooting into twrp as well with screen lock also disabled.
Thanks. I'll try that out later.
But after I was unable to get into Nitrogen, I flashed stock manually and tried it all over. From this point I kept getting error after error in twrp.
After the errors, I got the Device is Corrupt screen, and freezing on the Google splash. From there I'd have to again start all over.

Alright. I'm all unlocked and I disabled any sort of screen lock. I'm trying to flash Nitrogen now and seeing what happens...
and it failed again. I'm at a loss, I've never experienced this before.
The error is "updater process ended with ERROR: 1. Error installing zip........
Trying again because why the hell not. Maybe I'l try another TWRP version.

Are you using the latest twrp from here? https://dl.twrp.me/taimen/
Also, you might want to try fastbooting the factory image with the -w removed from the flash-all.bat file to slot B. Then fastboot into twrp and try again. You will not lose any data by doing this.

I've read up on how to flash stock images without formatting data, but how would one flash directly to a particular slot? The only way I know how to get into a slot is through TWRP, but aren't there adb commands for this as well?

In fastboot mode run...fastboot --set-active=a or b...
In your case select b.
Then, fastboot reboot bootloader
Now your on slot b, and can fastboot the factory image :good:

Jesus christ. I'm in a cmd window right now, with the latest platform tools installed.
I ran the command just as you typed, (I'm in bootloader, bootloader version tmz20j by the way). Also, my bootloader version has changed a couple of times during all of this. It was tmz20bb, then tmz12g when I flashed the latest June image...now it's this 20j version.
Anyway, this is what I'm typing and this is what I get in return:
fastboot --set-active=b
fastboot: error: Device does not support slots
I'm at a real loss, obviously this damn device supports slots.
EDIT: OK hold on, when I flashed the June image bootloader version, ran the slot command in ADB, I was able to navigate to the right slot.
Little update.
Followed this guide:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/how-to/slota-b-how-to-flash-roms-magisk-kernel-t3754175
Rebooted into slot a and the touch screen stopped working. So now I'm going back to stock yet again. Just leaving it that way for now I can't deal with this crap.

Fwiw, after you flash a rom and twrp, if it doesn't boot up, go back to twrp and flash the rom and twrp again. Flashing roms or taking OTA's automatically switches slots on you. Always best to keep screen lock disabled until you are done.
