Nextbit Robin
Code:
- Your warrenty is now void.
- You have been warned.
- Use at your own risk.
Introduction:
This is the Official Lineage OS 16.0 thread for the Nextbit Robin, codename ether.
How to Install:
Please follow the instructions on our Official LineageOS Wiki page here.
If you don't follow these instructions, please don't expect support here. We also don't support 3rd party addons (Magisk/XPosed/Dolby/Viper/etc.), so please don't seek support if you use these.
Known Bugs:
IMS (VoLTE/VoWi-Fi/Carrier Video Calling) cannot be made to work on any version past Android 8.1 (LineageOS 15.1) due to compatibility issues with proprietary binaries. To remedy this, we've opted to ship LineageOS 15.1 and 16.0 simultaneously. 15.1 will continue to get weekly releases, while 16.0 will get nightly releases. *If you need/want VoLTE/VoWi-Fi/Carrier Video Calling, please use LineageOS 15.1 found here.
ANT+ is currently broken in LineageOS 16.0, while it works in 15.1, use the builds linked above if you want/need ANT+ functionality.
Notes:
Official Lineage OS builds will not pass CTS/SafetyNet.
Download:
LineageOS Updater
You're also welcome to use npjohnson's personal builds, but these are experimental, and likely to destroy your data. These builds include GApps, and Pixel-Goodies, among other things -- you'll only find no support for these, so please don't discuss them here.

thank you so much, i´m flashing this ASAP
How is this official lineage os 16.0 ? Could we use for a dally driver?
Great work guy's! :highfive:
Out of curiosity, what's the difference between the twrp linked on Los wiki compared to the one on twrp.me?
I have performed the upgrade as per wiki instructions. I performed "sideload" to get the file and then "Install" to upgrade.
Afterwards all my data was gone as if it was a clean install even though I did no wiping in the recovery.
Using the latest official TWRP from the website, version 3.2.3.0.
Just to make sure, is IMS is needed to enable the phone to switch between 3g and lte for calls? I'm on tmobile, which uses Volte fro incoming call audio, but if I switch the phone manually(on other ether pie roms) to 3g, I can get incoming call audio, but no LTE until I switch it back. Is this the case with this rom?
Thanks @npjohnson for making this possible... I have reviwed the initial Pie release build...
Build Lineage-16.0-20190322
Overall a really good and stable ROM... Absolutely loved it!
All animations are smooth and the battery life is pretty decent...
I've not found any issues so far in my limited time of use, however it's very much suitable to be used as a daily drver.
p.s. - Installed the rom on top of Official Lineage OS 15.1 with Gapps mini for Android 9, wiped cache, dalvic etc.

It should auto switch to 3g when you receive or make a call. That's my experience on T-Mobile and pie ROMs

I tried to do that, but it didn't automatically switch. I used the latest aroma gapps as well

Didn't loose any data at all... However the initial boot took about 5 minutes... Had to be very very patient! ?
Anyone else having an issue with not being able to hear anything on the other end of incoming calls, and them not being able to hear you? Been having that issue for every incoming call, even after every nightly update.

So basically you just dirty flash the ROM and Android 9 Gapps, clear dalvic and cache and boot?

Thats what JayAbbhi is talking about. I had a similar issue and its completely 100% related to VOLTE. If you use 3g it'll work.
Took the dive, am now daily driving. It's quite attractive, and maybe a little smoother than 15.1. Calls/cell/wifi/notifications are all fine, not seeing any big change in battery life. The biggie for me (BIG plus) is that 15.1 always had this little glitchy audio thing going periodicially when streaming music to Firefox. It also had a sibilant timbre to all the music. On 16.0 the glitch is pretty much gone, and it also seems like the audio has lost some of that sibilance. A change to the audio change? Better filter defaults? Dunno. But I'm pretty happy with my switch to 16.0!
Other notes: I just used the old TWRP which was there from my 15.1 install. It worked fine. As instructed, I did the clear sys/cache, then install my zip plus SU.
One disconcerting change is that when you draw the unlock pattern, the first part of the pattern will disappear as you draw, which in the past meant it accidentally registered a finger lift. But they've changed the pattern unlock so the whole path no longer displays; just where your finger is and some segments before your current position. Your unlock pattern input is fine.

The instructions said to wipe system and cache, so that's all I did. After install all my apps and data were intact.
One app, when started, warned me that it might not be fully compatible with the Android version. but it worked anyway. Otherwise all appears fine.

Should have mentioned; I'm a non-gapps user. No problem with phone calls here, AT&T LTE network.
Third day as a daily driver, one freeze-up (when I tried to turn the screen on). I'm pretty happy with this ROM!

Yeah it was a legit ques man. I ain't saying no nothing 'bout it.
It's just that moto messed up whole this time. A build works on xt1643 n doesn't on other xt1643.
But yeah man..... It does work on xt1625 ..... Not as optimised as stock but mostly all things work cool.
As far as bugs.... If u encounter them.... Plz be kind enough to report with logs if possible.
Rest all cool buddy. Peace from my side if in any way u found me rude or in appropriately talking,
My apologies.

We're sharing same repo sources with @vache , so this ROM will be close to Temasek in terms of compatibility, bugs etc.

I can test on my 1644. It's not being used right now anyway. I'm all for helping get that model supported. You guys are great. I haven't really had to pull any logs before so let me know which app to use or your preferred method.

It's weird because I can MAKE calls. And I can get calls for short periods of time. I'm not sure if it's due to me manually searching for network, toggling airplane mode or some combination, but it only lasts for an hour tops. Very frustrating, especially for work haha. But it's still better than stock. If I didn't need to get calls for work, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But I'm sure they'll get it fixed.

I've been having the same thing with my xt1625, the only way I can receive phone calls is if I disable LTE and use only 3g and hspa then I seem to be able to receive calls, what network are you on? Try disabling LTE and see if it works for you

That's what usually works I think because I noticed it stays in 3G/HSPA mode. But when I first boot it up the first time, it works on LTE so I know it's possible. I'd leave it on 3G if I knew it would stay connected for me to receive calls, but I'm not 100% sure it would. I just got home. About to swap my SIM card to the Moto to get a logcat

I know that they had this problem with HTC phones when they would run custom Roms, it had something to do with US networks using HD voice over the LTE network and most Roms where built with international sources that didn't support the HD voice, not sure if it's the same problem.
Ye..! PAC PAC PAC for G4 Plus.
Thank you shreps for bringing this ROM. Hope to see it Official in near future.
I installed this on xt1622 single sim and all OK. The only slight issue is battery drain is a lot quicker than stock. ( Happens in both cm based ROMs we have so far). Is anyone else having bad battery drain or is it just me.... It seems to be not going into deep sleep.

Me too have same problem , but I think that I messed up by changing cpu frequency.
The best configuration for CPU is stock, changing it's configuration causes more problem rather than any good.

I don't believe I changed any CPU setup.. especially after fresh Pacman install, however maybe I didn't give it enough time. However I lost ~20% battery overnight so decided to go back to stock????
Dude you are the man installed this on my xt 1625 an runs flawlessly been waiting for more roms an of course the PAC man swoops in love your work many thanks
Took the plunge -XT1644
Took the risk and installed this on my XT1644. For the most part the ROM runs fantastic, definitely a little better than the CM13 build. Unlike many people here I seem to be able to send and receive calls just fine (maybe cause I'm on Verizon and it's using CDMA? I don't know how to tell if HD voice is working.) I have noticed one major issue (which is also an issue in the CM build.)
My phone ALWAYS shows that it is roaming even though I am on my home Verizon network. I believe it has to do with the APN settings. For some reason it is grabbing VZW Straight Talk APNs instead of just normal Verizon. I am not sure how to fix this, I tried to delete all the APN settings and then manually re-enter them, but it just went back to how they were initially.
If there is anything I can do to help let me know!

Thank you so much
dirty flash didn't work for me so i flashed the rom cleanly. magisk and EdXposed work so well. the default wallpaper picker is limiting me from cropping an image the way i want to so i used wallpaper picker from GApps, battery life is as good as the oreo rom you just released recently. navigation bar menu wasn't found in the setting although i can search it and it shows where it is. currently running gravitybox and greenify on EdXposed and redmi note 2 tool to optimize my battery life. instagram still stutters every time a video and or a live feed is being played
update :
instagram stutter issue is not as bad as the one in the LOS 15.1, battery life is slightly worse than LOS 15.1's, substratum doesn't work as good as in the LOS 15.1
OMG... this phone still alive !! amazing, good work !!
The phone got a new life! Thank you!
But there is a serious problem - it is impossible to connect to a hidden wifi access point. In advanced settings support for a hidden access point is on.
if make AP visible SSID then phone may connected, but if make AP hidden SSID then phone not see this AP and not connect even if AP name was saved!
WiFi Analyzer application installed on this phone shows hidden APs without SSID.
I had this problem and with lineage-15.1-20200422 firmware too.
Please fix this problem! I need it very much!
Random reboot on my hermes
Hi friend, is possible to fix it.
want to share my experience using this rom.
previously i was using miuipro so more or less i compare these 2 roms.
PROS:
1 pretty good battery life
2 better performance
3 it's lighter
4 better than lollipop
CONS:
1 it reboots randomly (more than 10 times in a day)
2 the sim cards sometimes not detected, when detected the signal have X mark sign
3 confusing settings menu for me
4 not support non-mainstream icon app in status bar
5 can't play media (music, YouTube) from BT speaker
after all really appreciate your work
thanks
For random reboot i tested to suitch in development option the android system web view, for now no random reboot, continue the test.

it's still in beta so we may experience some bugs along the way. you might wanna try the more stable LOS 15.1 released by him as well last month. it has better battery life and it's easier to install magisk and xposed in that very rom. though i like how substratum works in this LOS 16, i still have better experience overall in LOS 15.1 as it's more stable and the only bug i encountered was some stuttering on instagram in both vanilla and modded app. i don't really use it though, so it's not a big of a deal for me
Problem with audio recording in WhatsApp, audio some time distorted
Please at least press 'thanks' to OP at first post as a minimal support !

Pls read 2nd post from dev, there's a fix by custom kernel.
Thank you so much for reviving my secondary phone.
I was searching and waiting for updates and now it is there! All problems with auto rebooting is easy to fix. Just flash kernel in thread bellow and ROM will run normally. I hope updates will rollout in future .
anyone done a dirty flash from lineageOS15.1 from the same dev??? if so how well did it go?

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 10 (Q), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

Thanks!
Hi Jleeblanch, I've been following your work since the unofficial twrp for this device many time ago haha, and I just made an xda account to say thanks for all !!! been using the ROM by 3 days now (came from havoc 2.9, also tested the previous lineage builds from your website) I replaced the stock apps with the Gapps and and everything works well and super fast (LTE, Bluetooth, multiple open apps, video, etc) it's a very stable rom, just some lag on the native moto camera app but it's almost imperceptible.
Great job and again thanks a lot!!
Oh boy!! Right now I can't flash it cuz I'm traveling, but next week I'll try it for sure!
What gapps variant do you guys recommend? Nano, pico?
Thank you
Thank you. Your work is very much appreciated.
Ill flash this as soon as I get home.
I have doubts before proceeding to install the rom about its operation, has someone already installed it? Could you inform me about what errors it presents?
Also if you can inform me of how the installation process is.
Thank you

I tried with every variant, but got error 70 in twrp from nano to stock, so I flashed aroma for replacing stock apps and everything works fine

Many have been using my Lineage builds for beckham for some time and we wouldn't be "official" if we didn't meet all of Lineage's charter requirements (exception being MotoMods in this devices case). As far as MotoMods go, support is more generic on Lineage compared to stock as Moto has frameworks && system changes that will unfortunately never make it into Lineage officially.

Hm, iirc error 70 is a lack of space on system? I personally use opengapps nano and haven't experienced any issues regarding installation. But either way, glad you sorted it out.
Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk
The 11/18 ROM is stable. I also was using the unofficial 11/03 ROM which was also quite stable.
Recovery program:
I have not found a recovery program that yields consistent results. If I flash GAPPs (nano, pico) using the built-in recovery, with no errors, sometimes after flashing the ROM & rebooting the ROM doesn't have GAPPS installed. Same experience with using the TWRP recovery (fastboot loaded for boot only). Very inconsistent flash results. Suggestions?
Phone Volume:
A little lower than desired.
Voice to Text:
Voice to text does not work really at all well with AOSP keyboard. If you replace with Gboard, voice to text works better but still seems to hang sometimes. Playing around with that to see how to get it to work best
Google Setup:
When using Google Setup with the ROM, on initial boot the WIFI connection screen never shows WIFI connected even though the WIFI icon on the status bar shows to be connected.
Pretty much all the other features I use work fine. Will be fun to see this ROM get better and better each week.
The only issue I have experienced with this rom is the same I experience with every custom rom I have used for Motorola devices over the years. The wave to wake, or I guess, approach to peak seems a lot less sensitive then stock. With LOS I need to be a couple inches from the phone to get it to engage while stock my display comes on 4 or 5 inches from my phone..
Seems trite but my phone is my clock in my room and muscle memory has me waving my hand over it to see the time.

I just installed this one. So great experience!!
It seems to me that the sensors next to the Motorola logo are not active.
By now, I miss the face-unlock..

The Z3 play must have a way other then the proximity sensor to determine proximity.
the proximity sensor is to the left of the speaker on the top of the phone but the peek function will activate at the bottom of the phone.
Maybe noise via the mic?
Installed it yesterday and loving it!
Did someone tried Magisk?
Just one considerations: notifications volume gain is super high, it's loud! The minimum value is still loud and annoying; is there a way to change it?
And I do miss the motorola clock/weather widget...

Awesome to see lineage support! Really appreciate it. Moto mod support is limited? Does the phone at least charge and run off the battery mods?
Super excited to finally see an official ROM for this phone. Would it be possible to get the Moto Display working?
I made the update for today version 25/11, nice and easy, i had to reboot manualy i did not prompted me to do so, but no problem at all. After reboot a popup showed finishing instalation and i was at new version loke it was supposed to be.
I vê been using for the last week, the only reboot, was after finished a call received while changing, i unplugged to answer and when i finished the call it rebooted.

Wow, this is unexpected, I'll try it ASAP and share my experience here.
Thanks a lot!
I just installed this on my 1929-8 as well. Everything seems good except I have no speakerphone. Other than that, great job! I'll let you know if I run into anything else.
Ok was able to get speakerphone working. I had google dialer installed and switched back to android dialer and working good now.

New version uploaded, changelog available in the download directoy. I was unable to boot just dirty flashing this, So clean flash is needed.
I'm not sure if this would be considered a bug or not, but it happens on all android 11 ROMs I've tried and haven't gotten any way to possibly fix the issue yet. Bluetooth when connected to my car stereo, I can't hear anything when I try to answer calls by either the stereo or the phone. It works fine for outgoing calls however. Now I noticed with this ROM I was able to get it to answer twice but that's it. I'm sure it's something simple I'm missing just not sure where to start. Any help would be greatly appreciated. And again great job on the ROM. Glad to see someone got this going for the moto Z3 play.

BTW I tried on my car with just bluetooth and no android auto and it worked fine, so maybe it's a car problem. I have no idea.
Are you using the latest crdroid version?
Tried to re-pair with the car?

Yep I'm using the latest version. I haven't tried to repair yet. It worked when I was running android 10 ROMs, and I think if I remember correctly it worked when I first installed lineage 18.1 I'll try to re-pair the device and see what happens. I'm gonna try my ear buds too and see what they do. Haven't tried them yet.
M8, what about SafetyNet, does it work?
Edit: I tried it already, everything seems fluid enough, awesome job!
Buuut, here´s the catch, I´m using the recommended Gapps, clean wipe, and everything, but SafetyNet fails, any idea how to workaround this?
Have you tried LineageOS? I have XT1929-8 too and I am using it in Europe. Unfortunately it's quite slow, I am sure with Lineage or your distribution it can work fine.
I use the Battery Moto Mods (turbo power and the one included in the package). Have you had the chance to try them?
Thank you so much for your work and your time!

No idea on why safetynet is not working tbh, never been able to pass that f*****g test in any custom rom. BTW I haven't found yet an app complaining so for me it's a tie for now.

This rom is based on LineageOS btw.
For the mods, I tried the incipio offgrid and the moto power pack included when I bought the phone and they seemed to be working fine. Funny thing is that I completely forgot of having them for something like a year and a half, so when I connected both I got something like 5 seconds of charge before they went flat. SOOO I'll test them in the future, but I think they'll work fine. They worked fine in the past on LineageOS.
speaker is not working
ACan anyone tell me if the kernel is customizable, if you can overclock it?

Reboot and enjoy

What's working?
Everything else?
Known minor issues:
Rarely, opening the settings from quick settings can crash the system-ui. This issue is not persistent and if it happens, only happens after a reboot or restarting system-ui(like changing ui elements from customization options).
Opening a notification will solve this issue until the next reboot, also this problem didn't happen when i had a password/pin protection.
ROM OS Version: Android 11
ROM Kernel: Linux 3.10.108
Based On: AOSP
Android Security Update: September 5 2022
SELinux: Enforcing
Status: Stable
I made this rom for personal use and can't regularly update or maintain it. Don't have enough time or storage space on my drives for it. So, if you find some other bugs feel free to report it for other users but i probably won't be able to fix them. Apart from the hotspot problem i didn't encounter any major issues...
I made 2 roms for these devices, crDroid and ArrowOS, wanted to see if ArrowOS was more lightweight and faster compared to crDroid... didn't see much difference in terms of performance. and ArrowOS dropped android 11 support so the security updates are a bit behind. anyways, since i already built it why not share it? so you guys have a vanilla rom option as well... personally i'll stick with the crDroid for now. but it's a personal preference.

@OP It just so happens my Z00T JUST got her cracked screen as SERIOUSLY bloated battery (seriously, it pushed the screen up 1mm bottom right corner... Till I popped the back cover that is, lol!) Replaced!
I actually beta tested for a dev way back when these where new, lol
Gimmie a day, I'll report back, if your still wanting Laser feedback?
Cheers either way!

yeah would be nice. i'd like to see if it works on Z00L and if the same bugs are present or if there are more bugs... i don't have any way of testing that variant but since every other developer built roms for these 2 devices together and both had similar experience i'd assume Z00L would be fine as well...

Thanks for the great work and effort to keep these devices alive.
Today I only tried the installation on ze550kl z00l and everything went fine. Twrp 3.3.1-0 is nikgapps core arm64. I haven't been able to test it thoroughly, but the basic functions work very well. The audio is also great, unlike previous versions of Android 10 where the audio sometimes worked and sometimes it didn't.
Immediately after, as recommended by you, I installed CrDroid, so I can't say about this rom.
A thousand thanks

by audio do you mean the loudspeaker issue during calls? or was there another audio bug in the 10 roms? i didn't actually use 10 on this phone. just tested briefly and loudspeaker issue was big enough for me to just walk away. don't know all the details about previous roms except for groovy nougat.
Con l'audio intendo che non si sentiva nulla completamente, suoneria, musica, ecc...
Questa versione tuttavia non sembra avere questo problema.
Hi @selfie zenfon.
With the little time I have available, I tried to do some tests on ze550kl z00ld.
As mentioned in the previous post, I installed crDroid, with twrp 3.3.1-0, but after doing a factory data reset as the operating system and after the first recharge, the smartphone went into bootloop.
Then I installed Twrp 3.7.0_9 and Arrowos. I also tried doing a factory data reset with this rom and it has been working fine for about 3 days without any bootloop.
I can also say that it is about 10% smoother than CrDroid.
I would also try CrDroid with Twrp 3.7.0_9 as soon as possible to see if it will bootloop again.
Also I want to compliment you: I don't know if you are a developer and I don't know how you compiled these roms, but I can tell you that they work very well and I can say that they are among the best custom roms for these devices.
Thanks so much for the great job
last and probably the final build is up!
hotspot fix applied to the arrowos as well...
enable blurs option is removed.
face unlock wasn't working on this rom so removed the relevant packages and it won't show up in the settings anymore.
duckduckgo browser won't be pre-installed as a system app as it's available on playstore.
this build doesn't have a pre-installed browser right now, but as i said i made these roms for my personal use first... i won't be using ddg and not having a pre-installed browser isn't a problem for me.

tried 3.7.0_9 again, no matter what... i can't install any roms with it. either it says factory reset on the first boot and reboots to the recovery. or system boots up but can't do anything... can't install apps, take photos etc. my storage becomes unusable. if i wipe the partitions using older version and install the rom with the latest, then it works. but if i wipe my phone with the new twrp is causes that problem... @str4610 also used a newer twrp without any issues but i don't know. i can't make it work
don't know anything about the crdroid bootloops, i didn't have that problem yet. but if this rom works better for you that's fine. applied the hotspot fix now this one is a fully functional option as well...
also it would be nice if you can test the latest builds for both if you have some spare time. i can test the z00t but i don't know if the z00l builds even booting up should work but can't be certain without actual testing.
edit: ah twrp was fine. my phone was messed up lol had to resize my data partition and everything is ok with the latest twrp now.
Thanks so much for the great job.
I confirm the installation of the new version of CrDroid and ArrowOs (It's a pity that this rom has been abandoned..).
TWRP used: 3.7.0_9-0.
Installation:
1) Format the data
2) Wipe system, data, cache and dalvik
3) Reboot into Twrp and install CrDroid+NikGapps Core
To speed up the system a bit, enable developer options and scale animations from 1 -> 0.5
I confirm the following features:
-Bluetooth
- Double tap to turn off/wake the screen
- Wifi
- Torch
- Camera
- Basic functions.
Not using the smartphone as a daily driver, I can't say more.
Thank you so much for your time and effort to maintain this device.

thanks for testing it most of the custom rom groups stopped developing 11 long before arrow did. it's still not that far behind and security updates are not "that" important on such an old phone. and i can't promise to update crdroid or lineage either. i don't have enough storage on my drives so i was using an old sata 2 hdd from 2007/2008 lol
can't regularly set this development environment for just the updates.
120gb off brand ssd hanging for system/swap/cache and 640gb old af hdd with some badsectors is for android source code not ideal... all my actual drives are almost full...
final update is released... applied the last patches i made for crdroid, all cores should be online for all the devices now. didn't get any bug reports for arrowos but since my device sources were the same, i assumed it would have the same issue.
Last time I checked the previous update prior to the latest one didn't had the Smart Orientation. Rest was all good.
Is it implemented now???

I made this rom for personal use and can't regularly update or maintain it. Don't have enough time or storage space on my drives for it. So, if you find some other bugs feel free to report it for other users but i probably won't be able to fix them. Apart from the hotspot problem i didn't encounter any major issues...
I made 2 roms for these devices, crDroid and ArrowOS, wanted to see if ArrowOS was more lightweight and faster compared to crDroid... didn't see much difference in terms of performance. and ArrowOS dropped android 11 support so the security updates are a bit behind. anyways, since i already built it why not share it? so you guys have a vanilla rom option as well... personally i'll stick with the crDroid for now. but it's a personal preference.

zenfone selfie works fine with this rom. its my own test device. maybe your download failed? or file corrupted while copying to the phone? what's the error you're getting?
if the phone was encrypted it might require a data format(not wipe)
