I see what you mean. In other words its not KitKat. But could this update be the first step in getting KitKat soon? Whan do you think tmo will release it?

The new NC2 firmware might be a reaction to solve this vulnerability. If we saw this little fella, then T-mobile is still interested in keeping our phone updated. Last month Samsung USA talked about their KitKat plans in the USA which includes the GS3. So it could go either way since it depends on the carrier (T-mobile in our case) approving the update. I read the international GS3 KitKat rollout starting between April-May in a leak released days ago, so we'll have to keep our eyes peeled.

Appreciate the heads up. I'm not rooted yet. But I'm thinking about rooting with root66. Do you think that if I update to this update now that I can still root my phone later with root66 without any issues?

I don't suggest CWM, it once deleted my internal SD without me touching anything and borked the internal clock back to 1970. I replied to your post here.

It didn't root mine, but it didn't brick it. Device status is custom.

Man, that is some shady looking **** right there. Let me know how it goes haha.
Tried root it failed on me.
My guess is as of right now it only works for the N920AUCU1AOGG firmware, it is the original firmware that came when the phone was introduced. Now everyone is rocking the N920AUCU2AOJ1 firmware that came out some time in between September - December.
If you search for the firmware available in chimera root tool, the one they have is the original one OGG. I guess the only way for this to work is to downgrade then run the utility.

Getting the same myself.
maybe I'll try the unroot option after my 3 hours runs out? don't see much harm in hacking this thing up anymore...
factory reset via recovery and restoring from smart switch did nothing. other than wipe away my screen and app drawer settings :'p

From what I know, they were supposed to release the update within the first quater of this year (until end of March).
Then, they said they'll be skipping Oreo 8.0 and going straight to Oreo 8.1, which is supposed to be released mid-late April.

I read in other thread that you can install a VPN app and connect to a US server, then check updates in Settings and it should let you update it
I can see that working el4nimal however I am in California/USA and still cant seem to get the update after reboots and checking.
Try connecting to a UK server as we are being updated, I send this from a freshly updated Razer Phone on Oreo

I don't know if it makes any difference but my device is a direct-from-razer Hong Kong import..maybe it's attached to a different server because if that.

Im wanting to de-Cricket my S9
Its a G960U, so i assume that all i would really need to do is flash the U1 firmware, correct?
and if that is correct, it will give me a Sammy splash screen and boot animation too, yes? Perhaps some sophomoric questions, but im just making sure.

Yep that's right, it will remove all the carrier crap (I assume splash, definitely boot), just remember about the bootloader/baseband versions that cannot be downgraded so if you flash to version 4 you can only flash v4 or above after that
You will also receive updates direct from Samsung instead of the carrier

damnit. thats just my luck too :/ thank you for affirming my understanding of how this works. I came to the S9 recently but i do recall the odin flash process for the t-mobile S2's that required the individual files to be placed in Odin before flashing, so this is all old hat as far as the process goes. Any idea on how long it might be before the U1 firmwares are going to be available for V5?

Only Samsung knows, but a lot of firmwares are now on v5 so if I had to guess I'd say the next update probably will bump it up to v5, they said the security updates included in the June update required it to be updated
When it receives the next update is anyone's guess though
And yes, all 4 parts of the firmware to be flashed together in the corresponding ODIN sections, HOME_CSC will not reset the phone, CSC will reset it, use one or the other in the CSC section

This time it's the real deal and not a beta/mfn version.
The update comes bundled with the January 2020 Security Patch and has the build number QSA30.62-24
As usual, the update is rolling out in batches... As by far, only users of the first batch of devices have received the OTA update.
The other batches (02/2019 and so on...) are still waiting in line.
My phone's batch is 06/2019... So I'll have to wait a little more
EDIT: As Of Today, January 13 2020, the OTA update, versioned QSA30.62-24 is out for All Users of the Motorola One Vision In Brazil using the Retail Software Channel (RETBR).
I just updated my phone and did a hard reset to start clean.
how do you know which batch is your phone?
