[Q] How come the phone does not sleep when charging?

I'm still relatively new to the whole android platform. Evo being my first. Why does the evo not sleep when charging? I have the issue of rapid battery drain when I unplug the phone from 100-90 in a matter of minutes. This bugs me to no end. The only way I am able to get around that is to watch for the phone to ding 100 and immediately unplug it and turn it off.
I believe that, and (correct me if im wrong), if your phone is awake, it is being used to its full capacity all of the time. CPU is running and doing whatever it does that drains the battery like it does when its unplugged and being used by the user.
Since the phone doesn't trickle charge it stops charging at 100% until it gets down to ~90% (all the while still reporting that it is at 100%). It stands to reason that if the phone doesnt sleep while its on the charger, its using this cpu power and this is the culprit of the rapid battery drain, and to that end, the culprit of a lot of people's battery woes.
food for thought i guess. that's my take on it.

There are numerous discussions about the charging thing. Search, or at least Google. The most intriguing answer I ever saw to this was that the charging system was set up to protect the Li-Ion battery from degradation by not cramming it full of charge all the time. (The OP on that was a bit more technical, but you get the idea.)
If it bugs you that much, you could root your phone, flash a ROM that is undervolted and compatible with SetCPU, install that, and then set a profile up so your phone is underclocked when it's charging / charged.

I searched xda prior to posting specifically about sleeping while plugged in. My query isn't neccisarily about charging bit rather the sleep function and awake state of the phone while its pretending to charge.
I'm curious as to whether this is hardware related or not. For example when the phone reaches 100% and stops charge could the phone then actually begin to sleep. Unless its physically impossible for the phone to sleep while there is a usb chord plugged into it.
A little test I did with this over the past two days. At night I charged to full and took the phone off the charge and went to bed. I woke up and only lost about 4% all night and was able to use the phone on the way to work never going below 90%
The next night I left the phone on charge all night. Wake up take it off the charger and within 10 minutes I'm down to 92%
Keep in mind I'm not blaming charging on this. The first night lasted longer off of the charger than the night on the charger simply because the phone was allowed to sleep through the night.

you can set the options it will say 'screen stay on while plugged up' or something to the like
or when you plug it in, just push your lock button (the top power key)

also you can get a brightness widget and put it on your home screen. that way you can still have your screen on while charging but it will be dimmed or whatever setting you set it too.

Your screen being on vs off while charging does not factor into the asleep vs awake time of the phone.
for an example of this, a freshly rebooted phone on the charger, with the screen off for 5 minutes, will have an "up" time of 5 minutes and an "awake" time of 5 minutes.
this is true while the phone is plugged in and the screen is on or off.
simply put, your awake time on the phone is always going up as long as the phone is plugged in, double this with the fact that the phone stops charging at 100% and you have constant drain even when plugged in.

the phone shuts off at 100% to protect the battery. If you want your phone asleep then turn it off at night. that is the only way to put the phone to sleep try searching app market. Other then that the only other way is to push the power/lock button at the top

[Q] Moto 360 drain while charging

Question guys... I just got my Moto 360, and I love it. For the past two nights, I';ve gone to bed with the watch being around 50% battery. I put it in the charger, it shows it's charging, and I go to bed. I wake up and the watch is off, and cannot turn on. I take it off of the charger, wait a couple of minutes, put it back on the charger and the white charging light comes on, and it shows completely drained.
Why is my watch draining while in the charger?

Is it paired with the phone?
Maybe some app is draining the battery...

Yes, it is paired with the phone and remains in the charger all night. Even if apps are draining it, it should still be charging as its in the charger, correct?

qi charging is like usb charging. its slooowwwww, so if a rogue app is on board causing mischief, the charge of the wireless charger may not keep up.

Make sure the light on the bottom of the charger is on. Because if it gets too far away it drains.

I had this issue the first night I got my watch. It was quite disconcerting watching as the battery level decreased while it was on the charger!
I solved it by restarting the watch, switching to the default watch face and putting it in theatre mode while charging.
It hasn't had the problem since and I've now got the 500px watch face (it's beautiful!) and the watch charges in around an hour from <10%.

I am having this issue, however I had my watch at 90%.
I then try to charge my watch and basically it does not charge and it seems like it is discharging. I still get the charging screen with the blue circle.
I have try the charging on both the standard dock charger and another Qi charger i have and I get the same issue.
I have factory reset my watch and it doesn't work. I cannot charge my watch now and now I cannot set my watch as I am not at the 80% needed to set it up
I have turned my watch off and I am at around 40%. I have left the watch on the charger when off and I can get like 1 or 2% charge in per hour... Anyone has this issue?
I am on the newer 5.1.1 update.

I'd bet that's down to a bad lead

Update to my problem, the device can only charge when it goes down to around 25%. Anything above that it would refuse to charge.
I have informed Motorola and will be sending it in for repair or replacement.

Good luck with that! My battery is starting to act up like that as well.

I have the same issue. My watch charges, I can see it going up. But, if I leave it on the charger over night, I assume it reaches 100% and by morning has depleted and shut down. The charger as well is shut off (no light on the bottom). I have to unplug and plug it back in to get it to start charging my watch again.

I find this from time to time; I absolutely double check to see whether the light is on at the bottom of the charger every time I put my Moto 360 in the cradle. If it is off, I unplug everything, replug everything back in and make sure I have the LED lit. This seems to be a problem with some of the chargers. Also, I typically put the watch in airplane mode when I put it in the charger overnight. There's not point in it "talking" to the phone while I'm not awake. (I don't know what they'd talk about anyway).

[Q] Leave Galaxy Tab Pro plugged in?

My Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 is on a stand on my desk most of the time. I usually leave it hooked up to AC power while on the stand. What's better for the battery: to leave it plugged in, so the battery remains at 100%, and only disconnect it from AC if I'm carrying the tablet around, or to not connect to AC while on my desk and let the battery drain slowly and recharge it, so actually go through drain-and-charge cycles? I've googled this, but I'm finding conflicting information. Are there definitive recommendations in this area?

With mine I only charge it if the battery is 50% or lower, Leaving it plugged in with AC connected should be ok, I have a amper cable that shows power draw and when the Battery is fully charged the tablet pretty much draws 0mA with the screen off, and an occasional 20mA probably because of wake-locks or possibly trickle (unsure).
With that being said if the battery does fall below a certain voltage with it plugged it it might switch the charger back on to top the battery off and these micro charges can possibly wear the battery out though I'm not sure if it does this or if it trickles the battery (maybe ill monitor the logcat to see what the battery does when its plugged in)..
anyways key rules to lithium-ion battery's is never completely drain them, don't constantly charge them wait till 50% or less, avoid getting them too hot.

do you guys leave your g3 charging while you sleep.

I always been afraid to leave my g3 charging during the night. But is it true that it damages your battery.

Do it every time, with the device powered off. Power is disconnected when battery reaches 100%, so no problems.

night charge now is safe for your phone. The phone will not recharge until the battery <95% or 90% (still plug in )

I charge the phone overnight every night - with the phone left on. No issues.... As mentioned you can do this now with today's battery technology without worrying about battery memory, etc.

I have done this all the time with all my smartphones. No issues.

Just don't leave it on your pillow or on the bed as it may reduce heat dissipation. But perfectly fine to be left overnight charging.

I always leave it to charge when going to bed, but it gets fully charged only 2-3hrs in, so it stops charging as i have not noticed it heats up excessively. PS: i put it into airplane mode too.
The nice thing about G3 over many other phones (even G2) is the battery is replaceable. Even if you kill it over time, just buy a new battery. Voila.

Solution for battery drain on Tab S 8.4

Hi everyone.
Just to write a solution for the commonly problem on the battery of this tablet; I had the problem that battery ran out almost on 1 or 2 hours! of use after it turned off I turned on again and the gauge showed for example 30% or some cases 40% of battery I was crazy about that and had to do some research; tried to bring the tablet to warranty but they did not could help me (I don't know why) after that I read there were more users having this problem; some of them suggested to bring the tablet to a repair center or open the tablet and do some technical reparation; the solution is pretty simple that it seems to me; my solution was to open the tablet with a spudger (I don't have one so I made one by sanding a piece of plastic) after that just unplugged the battery conector and reconnected it again; rebooted if recovery mode and erased batterystats.bin, turned off and charged until 100%.
At this point I have been using the tablet by 3 days and the gauge seems to show a more precise battery percentage.

Anybody that is having battery problem, and have checked that a app is not causing the battery drain, should try the battery calibration method below, before opening their tab
Try apps like watchdog or an wakelock checker app, also any apps like alarms and weather check apps or any apps that sync the tab can keep the tab from going to sleep.
On my tab s 10.5 i only charge to 70% and never unless i am doing a calibrate drop below 20%, I use my tab for video, ebook and internet.
I use an app like Gsam to sound an alarm at 20% and 70% when charging, and i dont charge to 100% as it can cause cumulative damage to the battery, check the link below for more info on how to care for lithium based battery`s

You can calibrate the battery like this before you decide to buy a new one
Fully charge the battery with the phone on and when the phone is fully charged, unplug the charger and turn it off.
When your phone is off, plug it into the charger and let it charge to 100% again. The green LED light will indicate when this is don
Next unplug the charger, turn on your phone and set the option to ensure that your screen doesn’t turn off, if you have this option. Then reconnect to the charger and wait for it to charge again to 100%.
Once charged to 100%, unplug the charger again and do not charge until the smartphone turns itself off after reaching a 0% battery level. Once off, fully charge it again and it should work properly. The screen setting can put back to normal again (meaning turn off after a certain amount of time).
phones with oled displays should not show static images for a long time as it can cause burn-in

I might have to give this a try. Like my battery has no problems with its connectors or anything since I have never had that problem. Recently, every time I charge my device, when it charges up to 97%, it immediately jumps to 100%. Rebooting still shows 100%. So when I turn off the device and charge it while it's off, it shows its at 98%. So I know it's an calibration problem. This only happens when charging up to 97%. So I might need to recalibrate again.

You should not discharge to 0% too often, as it can causes curative damage and the battery could actually fail, you would not want that to happen if you are out of warranty, I rarely discharge below 20%, a couple of % inaccuracy is not a problem really.

I hardly ever discharge to 0%, I usually charge it when it tells me my battery is low (20-15%). Well, I bought this tablet in July so I have reached probably 300+ charge cycles. I read some threads regarding battery skiping and it happens when either it's uncalibrated, or battery is slowly going bad, and something else I forget. But thanks for the tips on the battery stuff! I never knew charing and discharging fully could do such a thing!

I bought my device from Kuwait so it's firmware belong to united Arab of imarats.
At the beginning , I faced some issues with my device such as. After about 3 weeks I found the the battery stay only for 10 minutes even if it charged to 100%
I had to put my device in charge all the time so I can use it.
I send it to repair center and told them that I need to replace my battery.
After one day they call me and told me that it just asoftware problem and we solve it.
I got it from them use it for just 3 days and found anew problem that the home,back and multitask buttons dosen't work very well . That I need to but it on it's back or use the desktop cover to make it work.
In that point I tried another country firmware with kitkat 4.4.2 and that dosent solve anything
And when I found that the lolipop came to galaxy tab s with France and Canada and sanghfore , I installed it
I found that when I connect the wall charger , the device immediately turn off and give me the sign of battery with out any process in charging and dosent want to turn on.
And when the device work , it give me ablack screen when I shake it between my hand or but it on it's back (such like ablack screen flashing)
I don't know what to do.
