Hello everyone,
it's been 3 years ago since I've been rooting my Huawei P8Max and still have it and working fine. Although the stabilisator of my camer is out of place so it's making buzz sounds when using the camera and making bad photos. But also outdated too?
Anyway, I'm looking for a new phone and now it's between the Mate 20 and the Mate 20X. However... it's the same story again with the P8Max: not available for purchase here in the Netherlands.... What a [email protected]#*& joke! If I buy one from Chinese webstore, I may end up having Chinese apps with Chinese characters in lock screen and chinese characters in 'Configs - apps' which I cannot remove it despite I rooted it.
So what is the best place to buy the Mate 20X? German Mediamarks doesn't send to the Netherlands? Amazon? Or other places?
And what about the root possibilities? Has it changed much? Possible to root either the Mate 20 or Mate 20X? What can I do if rooted?

Can you explain more on how? I live a bit too far from the Germany borders so if I have to go over there, I can't. I don't own a car too.

Register on Mailboxde.com , they will provide you with their German address and a code. Order online from Mediamarkt.de and use the address Mailboxde provided, and in the name field put the code. Once they receive the package, it will be reshipped to your Dutch address for a fee. 15-20 Euros if I recall, depending on size and weight.
Read their website, it explains all in detail.
I believe you can buy it off clove and they are also including the m-pen and flip case cover. There are normally quite a few available from either Norway or Switzerland on eBay that have international shipping.
Why is that device so little spread with stores ? I bought it in the end at Saturn here in Germany, and I know its available at Mediamarkt. But then thats almost the same store these days.
But other than that, its hardly anywhere available in stores, local or online. How come ?
Is it that new ? I dont know when it was released here in germany. But since the above big local stores have it, why not more ? And especially online stores. Is that phone going to be one of those hardly introduced ones ?

Exactly my thoughts. I thought Huawei has learned from the Huawei P8Max which was way to hard to get it and yet it happens with the 20X too!
I bought mine on Chinese webstore and I won't make the mistake again as I know there are European, Global and Chinese version. I didn't knew that back in 2015.
Mine was Chinese and it contained a lot of chinese bloat and apps I don't understand. German Mediamarkt sells the Mate 20X but Dutch Mediamarks doesn't?? Wtf?? Now I either got the choices to get it from European eBay sellers or Amazon.co.uk. I am only worried about the warranty between the countries and some has reported they got problems with the OLED screen after 4 days of use. And another thing is, I thought the Mate 20X has theTwilight version too but nope, only in silver and blue and I've seen the Mate20 Twilight in real store and I like it. So after a week of searching lots of informations and all, I'm thinking to go for the Mate20 here in the Netherlands to save myself from lots of troubles and headache. Shipping also takes long too :/
After gathering the info, this is what I've been told:
AL-00 is Chinese version
L29 is Europer version or non-Chinese
I never understood why there is always these differences with smartphones. Its like here in germany, when there is a new Smartphone introduced, its usually that we dont get all the colors (why the hell not???) or we only get the 256 GB version or only the 128 GB version or this or that, the other versions are always available in other countries only. I dont get it. Nowadays its slowly getting a bit more in regards to colors, that its not usually only the black, white & silver (or grey) version of phones that you can get here. But still, with a lot of phones its still the usual "This Version is not available here!" or so.
People are tired of only the basic colors by now. From different-size memory on the phone models i dont even wanna start, you only always get one model or maybe two, while there are in fact 3 or 4. Who decides what amount of memory people here "would want" to have, or which color we can get and why.
I am glad i found the Mate 20 X in Saturn & Mediamarkt in town, so I had it easy in this case. I could simply go there and buy it, but honestly i would have preferred ordering online with Amazon.
I think I made my choice: I'll go for the Mate 20 Twilight in my country to save myself lots of troubles and headache and eventually shipping when something is broken or some problems on the OLED screen of the Mate 20X. Just the colors black, blue and silver are simply boring, all my family have the basic black or grey colors of their iPhone, Samsung and Huawei. It would have been an insta-buy if Huawei sells the mate 20X Twilight in Netherlands too but nope, their logic is flawed, big time. #@&* it.
Is the Mate 20 root-able? And what can I do with it once it's rooted? Or should I keep it stock? I do know for sure it will have no more the chinese apps and characters like my P8Max have when I bought it from gizok. My cousin has the P10 from our country and he has no gibberish apps and I also have seen the Mate 20 in real life in a store, so beautiful phone And 3.5mm audiojack too!!!
In addition to the very little availability of the Mate 20 X (whyever), there are also hardly any good cases for it. Already asked UAG (Urban Armor Gear) which I used a lot over the years for many phones, but even they dont have any immediate plans to make a case for that phone. I suppose Huawei f**** that up, with releasing the phone so little compared to the other Mate 20 models. I dont get these companies, I really dont.
Yes, I experienced that about hardly good cases indeed! I was searching for good cases and the ones I found or suits my needs or I like, are not available for Mate 20X.
One more reason to go for the Mate 20 non-X. It's really a shame :/
True, but that doesnt make me scare away from the phone. There are several reasons, for me, why i wouldnt go for the other Mate 20 versions. For me, that large display is simply awesome. In addition, something i really hate on all the phones that have come to use these "supposedly" fancy edge displays. Samsung started this, and since the S6 Edge I learned one thing, rounded displays are prown to being broken very quickly. And repair costs of those is always much higer than with non-edge displays. The other Mate 20s have, as far as I know, all a rounded display, and already for that they are not interesting for me. Also, and i know that seems to be something one sooner or later has to get used to (but as long as I dont have to, why should I), i hate Headphone adapters. And the longer I can avoid using them, i will.
But the size of this phone is what really attracts me. Guess I can only hope some better cases come out in time.

No, only the Mate 20 Pro.
Even so, but the other Mate 20s dont have that appeal to me.
Ye, I really would love a huge display and that's why I've been searching to death. I don't care about what everyone says about the size. The OLED display is also really nice too.
Filtering the search results on eBay shows some sellers from UK and EU which is pretty nice. They shouldn't be Chinese versions?
These are search results:
https://www.ebay.nl/sch/GSMs/9355/i...te%2020%20X&_nkw=mate+20+x&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=3
And a phone without a 3.5mm audiojack means: a very big no-no, end of story. Adapters are prone to be broken very soon or to get lost.

It's the same in Hong Kong: I once found a shop selling extended batteries for the Dell Axim X50v for $280, but after a 10-minute journey I found another shop selling the same batteries for HK$240. Things tend to be cheaper on weekdays in the market place as well.
Do they sell complete body-sets (with keyboard panel and so on), including instructions ?

Sorry for being geeky but have you seen any HTC-branded housings? It'd be pretty cool to have one.
Hi everyone. Please recommend your best sites to get some original spare phone parts. Looking for a reliable and efficient CS as well. I'm located in France. Looks like there are lots of companies from HK to get what I need. Question is if someone out there tried one of them yet. With what results (quality, shipping, CS...)?
Thx in advance for pieces of advice.

I've bought a bunch of stuff from China and it's usually of very low quality..Yes, almost everything we buy noadays is made in china, but the knock off stuff coming from china is crap. I'd try to find a US seller. Yes, Europeans don't really care for American's but we make good stuff..lol

X2.... Bad quality in china
I've ordered spare parts for an old phone before through ebay (one of those being a screen for a Sony W580i) and they've all come from china or hong kong. Everything i've ordered has come in a week or two of ordering and while the pieces were cheap.. they got my device working again! ($20 for a new screen (with shipping) as opposed to $50 insurance deductible)
I feel lucky! I've bought some TPU case for my iphone 4g from China .And it is cheap but high quality..lol
I'd like to add eBay's a fairly reliable source of parts so long as you read the sellers' bad feedback first - if the quality is poor people will say so...
Got a lot of OEM stuff from china no major issues - minor ones dealt with very efficiently.
HTH!
M.S
Thanks, guys. However, I decided to give a try to one of those HK based companies I heard great words from, CNN.cn . I've just received the parcel at the end of last week, thanks to their fast delivery shipping option. Took only 5 days since the order was done.
I must say that quality of the goods is far beyond what most of people think when buying from China. I guess we all have to pay attention to where we order, that's why forums like this one are useful for everybody. I'm not disappointed with my bezels, housings, keypads... So I definitely recommend them to those who seek for quality items along with a careful customer service. And they speak French as well, what is a real plus.
I don't know if you guys are aware of this, but in case not and if you're interested, CNN.cn offer permanent discounts for professionals and those who order over a certain amount. Can help.

So, has anyone bought one of these? My HOX fell down on hard asphalt a few days ago and the white housing got dents on three corners. After I got a proper pouch I would like to replace it because I plan to use the phone for at least two years. To be honest, I feel a little uncertain about ordering stuff on eBay from Chinese people. But so far I haven't seen an alternative.

WOW...wat you got against the Chinese bro. I admit that China does make cheap ripoffs of the real deal. But if the titles says its legit, you can buy it, and if you dont think its legit, just ask for moneyback.. Why you gotta make this so racist
How easy is it to replace the back cover? I mean, does it just come off and the other one goes on?
Its so easy, find some videos on youtube about this.

Now all we need is someone selling a deeper one with a high capacity battery

Hey, no offense intended. I've got nothing against the Chinese in general, e.g. I've got a very cool Chinese colleague. But I wondered if it is so easy to get your money back from a guy in China if he sells you a crap or fake product when you live in Europe. I would have asked the same if the housing had been offered by someone from Argentina or South Africa, simply because it's a different country far away and I have no experience with ordering from there. Calling this racist is nonsense.

Its not racist, the Chinese have form for knocking off everything and everything, even down to forging cancer drugs that instead of helping with the disease help to speed it up instead.... Those damn things have found their way into legit doctors surgeries.
So no, commenting on the fact the chinese regularly flog fake bunk is fact not racism.
Has anyone bought this yet?
I ordered this past weekend. I'm in Canada so it may take a week or two.
Hong Kong is not part of China so don't worry . I was told by a seller it was original by HTC so I should expected it to be exactly the same. I don't know whether to be assured or to find loads of flaws from the building process .
interesting. I've been waiting to see the inside of the case. Some places have been saying the body is manufactured by machining but that looks a lot more like an injection moulded part. Maybe a small mount of post machining / polishing.
the question is, how hard is it to apply it yourself to the device ?!
saw a couple of video's on how to replace the housing.....from the looks of it, scary
That's just me :cyclops:
Hi all,
From all that I have seen it doesn't look like the ZL will be officially available in the UK. As such the options for buying a C6503 model are:
Import from Europe
It's quite expensive at the moment, and the retailer which should have no problems shipping abroad (Amazon) had the highest price of them all last time I checked. I can definitely see this working fine, with the German version having en_GB locale support and playing nicely with the operators.
Import from Asia (ie HK)
From Expansys (http://www.expansys.com.hk/sony-xperia-zl-lte-c6503-unlocked-16gb-black-247249) the total works out cheaper by about £60, with the shipping not being much slower. The other positives are that in HK they use the same power plugs as in the UK (no need to mess with power adaptors), and en_GB would definitely come preloaded as a locale. The only worry is that the manufacturer model quoted is 'AP_C6503_BLK', where the 'AP' stands for the Asia-Pacific version. I'm wondering whether this could have any implications on the hardware and software. I suppose as software goes it should always be possible to reflash it to a German firmware, but I can't help but think that something could be different.
Also found this: http://www.simplyelectronics.net/mainproduct.php?pid=21943
Despite coming up on Google Shopping with good reviews, I found other review websites which seemed to suggest the opposite. They also claimed to have had it in stock two or three weeks ago (I've been following this page for a while), when it wasn't even released in Europe. Both of these make me think that this website is a bit dodgy, and make me wonder where the device originally comes from (HK, Germany, Russia?).
I'm seriously inclining towards the second option, but I'm wondering whether anyone around here has previous experience or some information that might be able to help make the best choice.
Thanks.
Amazon Germany and Amazon Italy now have it for circa €560.
Nooo!! do not buy from simply electronics! I had an awful experience and a quick Google will give you the same feedback.
I am in the UK. Love the phone.
I bought mine from eBay from a seller in HK. Took 2 days to arrive via FedEx $599
Seller: jetcodigital
Expect to pay import tax although they did send as a gift with value of $100 so you might be lucky.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured about Simply Electronics.
So presumably the device you have is an Asia-Pacific version. Did you notice any differences or oddities when it came to the software/hardware?
Thanks for the feedback, I haven't actually checked eBay yet but will give it a quick look.

Another 3 uk user here, got my 6503 for ~£500 after shipping and tax from the states seller: never-msrp.
Even works on 3's secret LTE
Only issue is the US AC adapter.
I am gonna buy a white 6503 version from the German site; Cyberport.de
They can send it to several countries and the prices for that aren't that high.
The phone itself will cost you €550,00 and the shipping to the Netherlands (where I live) are only €13,00.
They've got the black version in stock, and the white version (that I want) is gonna be there in several days.
If you want to check out other stores in Germany:
Geizhals.de: black Sony Xperia ZL
Geizhals.de: white Sony Xperia ZL
Geizhals.de: red Sony Xperia ZL
Well, I ended up buying it from Amazon.de, which worked out to pretty much £500 after shipping and currency conversion. While Expansys.com.hk would have been cheaper, I felt that the European warranty was worth the additional price.
The funny thing is that I ordered yesterday and I should get it tomorrow. Ordering a device which isn't available in the UK, from Amazon.de, and guess what? The device was in the Milton Keynes distribution centre! Seems almost ridiculous, really.
Let us know how you get on.

Yeah it will be white for me, only little thing is that the notification led is better to see on the black one I think...
But I don't like the shiny sides of the black one, and when I first saw the white version I fell in love, so that's why.
And I think the notificationbar and bar with the buttons will look better on the white, on the black ZL it looks so greyish.
I got mine today, and man... it sure looks good and feels nice. It feels a bit heavy, compared to my S3, but I'll get used to that. The screen also looks good when looking at it directly, but gets worse as soon as the viewing angle increases. Although I suppose this is a good thing, as other people trying to look at my device shouldn't see as much as on my S3! The bezel on the side looks a bit bigger than on the pictures, but it's not a big deal. Overall when looking at video or pictures fullscreen it looks stunning, since there is so little bezel.
Now, since I'm a power user, I'm wondering whether I want to unlock the bootloader or just root. I actually don't mind Sony's customisations that much (barring Chrome instead of the stock browser, and the standard Gallery app), however if CM becomes stable enough I might put it on. Perhaps just the root for locked bootloaders will be good enough for now.
Nice to know some others in the uk have one. It's an exclusive club!)
Great phone so far for me. No regrets and no disappointment. I feel the same about the viewing angles. I'm stock all the way for once so will enjoy the factory experience.
I'm trialing the battery saving features at the moment. So far today I have had some good results. I'm not one for these features normally but I thought a the phone has had them I would give it a go.

Or is silver really available for EVR-L29?
Available in silver right here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Huawei-Mat...cdecb9854:m:mbmVlXzSrP9-WyZWmeS0z2w:rk:1:pf:0
I just bought a blue from him. I've purchased a mate 8, p9 and p9 pro from this seller before. I debated hard on buying silver but for every picture I saw where it looked silver, I saw two more where it looked too purple.

Yeap, that's the one I was going to buy but I was certain only blue is available for EVR-L29. All the other sellers online (ebay, amazon, wondamobil, etc...) only do EVR-L29 in blue. He's the only one doing silver. Interesting.
Got it in silver bought it from mobyshop Singapore they have international shipping methods.

Ye you often see the blue one or china version in silver, there are some reviews from South Asian regions youtubers where you can sometimes see a view of it.
Not really good at photos and still have the back film on the phone but you can get an idea :

Exactly my thoughts
It depends on the region it's sold in. I know in Malaysia it's sold in both blue and silver, while in Hong Kong it's in blue only.
Silver does exist, it's just more rare.

it is not rare .. on aliex all sellers selling both colors ..https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesal...SB_20190105155045&SearchText=HUAWEI+MATE+20+X

I'm referring to EVR-L29, the global model.
Not EVR-AL00 the mainland China model. EVR-AL00 comes in more configurations. Silver, blue, 128G, 256G.

Rebranding a Chinese Mate 20 series phone isn't possible. They will probably add play store, but that's the extent of what they can do.
who cares about the color? I assume you will throw a case on it anyway... ?

Don't say ''not possible'' everything is possible !

It's not. Trust me. My full time job is reverse-engineering Huawei devices.
Many of the Chinese resellers who rebrand phones are my customers.
If someone tells you it is, they're mistaken. They're either scamming you, or they don't realize the changes in oeminfo for the Kirin 980 generation of phones. The oeminfo is encrypted/signed for each individual device, and modifying the regional branding isn't possible. Having a fully rebranded device isn't possible. Nobody has developed a way to do it, and sadly, it's looking unlikely to be able to fully rebrand the phone.
I'm only telling you to help you not get scammed. I'll be very impressed if you prove me wrong.
Do you have such a device in-hand? A screenshot of the About Phone screen?

I don't think they lying.. chinese can do anything .. and u can buy any tools and readers .. They will be probably removing chip on the phone flashing it with global rom with special tool connected to laptop using windows ..

It's not an issue of being able to write to the memory of the phone. Anyone can do this with an unlocked bootloader. The issue is the regional branding of the phone, and the inability to change it from all/cn to something else due to device-specific signing/encryption.
It's fine if you don't believe me, but I think you will be disappointed with what happens if you trust they can do it.

man absolutely no .. huawei /honor just making one production line where motherboards goes through the manuf. process and at the end of the line
they have PC and already set which firmware will goes to which piece or batches .. and worker just will flash it he has 3 ROMs global /EU and china ..
branding or region that is irrelevant..

It seems that you have been very, very badly misinformed about both Huawei's production process and the relevancy of region/branding. Still, I'm very interested to see what the reseller ends up doing, so please let us know.
I did a quick search for EVR-L29 Malaysia and did come up with a midnight blue or phantom silver for sale on Expansys.
Ye Malaysia and Singapore are the only known regions that i know of which have both color EVR-L29, I'm not sure about 3rd party sellers, if it's true or not but since i bought it from an official seller/store, i have the phone and it's legit EVR-L29 phantom silver but not sure about the others. You're also covered with the 2 years Huawei warranty + mpen and smart cover free (maybe a limited time offer).
Most EVR-L29 from resellers are coming from HK supply and HK only have Blue for now in global version, that's why you see most of the time Blue ones.
