official pixel experience - Xiaomi Mi 6 Questions & Answers

PE has became official but never got updates
any devs could resume this amazing official project

I think you either haven't seen this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-6/development/rom-pixel-experience-t3892351/page12 or you want your rom to show "OFFICIAL" with uppercase bold characters.. ? If you're looking for the second case, then either ask the new maintainer about going official or edit the strings on your own lol.

[Q] Official Cyanogen Mod rom. How soon?

Hello, everyone!
Dunno if it was asked before or is it thу right place to ask this, but anyway:
Is CM team going to release official CM rom? May be even someone know how soon it will be? I don't like samsung stock rom because of the bloatware it has, but I think I am not the only one.
Thanks in advance!

Don't know if there will be an official build, but unofficial build by crpalmer works great.

Yup, I saw that, just wondering if we will get official anytime soon.

I've never quite figured out why people get so hung up on "official"... When there is an official build of CM, it will still be me maintaining it and the only differences will be that:
* you'll get nightly and M builds which makes them more frequent
* you'll get slower device specific updates to the core software (right now I change it and build it, when it's official it can take weeks to get a change in the frameworks approved and you won't see it until it's approved).
that said, it will be official but doing so takes effort from me and from other people that are very busy and so all I can say is it isn't official yet.

Actually before creating this thread I saw your "unofficial" build thread and checked your profile to see if you are somehow connected to CM dev team, but you have no information in your profile. I don't like unofficial builds because often they have something tuned\installed\uninstalled, but I like how CM works and I don't want anything else, this is why I want official build. But in this case I think I should try your build, as you maintain official ones anyway.
Thanks for clarifying this!

Not necessarily having visibility into any framework changes I've made is a pretty reasonable concern. There's only one change that I have already submitted for review so nothing too magical going on behind the scenes. Everything else is available in my public git repos for anyone to verify.
Most of the time official builds start out as unofficial builds. At least that's what I've noticed.

Older versions of LineageOS?

CyanogenMod was brilliant for old devices. You could take CM9, tweak it around, and install it on something like the Galaxy Ace GT-S5830. You could breathe life into an old device.
Will there be older versions of LineageOS to accomplish the same thing? For example, an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean LineageOS? Or will it go no lower than Nougat 7.1?

Any device that was actively being developed when CM ended should be picked up by Lineage OS. If the device was no longer supported by CM, it is not likely to be supported now.
It goes back to 6.0.1 but no further.
It will do both, apparently.....
Someone appears to have updated the cm-12.1 branch, FWIW. I'm wondering if they're slowly working backwards.

That would be my assumption since it's probably a lot easier to find people with knowledge to build CM13/12.1 than people with building knowledge for CM7 per say.

Funny you should say that, because I had to do just that very thing. I own an old phone (Motorola Atrix 4G) that never officially got support beyond CM7, so I've created my own custom CM7 for it (I'm using it as a glorified media player, but it's also allowed me to hone up on my Android ROM tinkering skills). When CM became LinOS, I created a Github organization (https://github.com/CM-Archive) to preserve the CM "gingerbread" branch, and found that there were a few things that need to be changed in order to make a clean compile. I'd offer to bring the "gingerbread" branch on LineageOS up to date for those few people who really need the CM7 code, as I've already done the work and know what needs to be changed, but as I've never made any contributions to CM or any ROM project, I don't know how to go about it. Can anyone tell me what I need to do? Something easy to follow, not "Get the frimfram and keloplotz the FTL missengibble on the gonfropple."

That's pretty epic dude! I have an LG Lucid vs840 from that had a CM9 out fot it was considering doing the same thing. As for helping them with their efforts I have no idea where to start.
But I do have a question, do you think it'd be very hard to update the cm7 cm9 or cm11 to Marshmallow devices? This might sound foolish but im still curious lol
The CM repo is moved wholesale to LineageOS, so if you know how to build, you could still build any version you like from the new source, provided that the older version was there previously in CM. I've built Lineage 13 (CM13) for several of my devices just now since I still need Xposed.
You can't expect any useful updates for <CM12.1 though, as CM had stopped working on them long ago. Not worth the extra effort of maintaining them, plus unfixable security holes.
Not looking to maintain them, simply to update them to compile from the LinOS repo. Specifically, the default.xml in the android package needs the references to CyanogenMod changed to LineageOS, and other references need to be changed as well. Once that's done, nothing further needs to be done.

You say that, but there was CM for my old 2011 LG phone but I would be tremendously surprised if a LOS ROM ever shows up because there doesn't seem to be any active development for that device anymore. Makes me sad because I would love to have LOS on it (and security updates newer than 2012) but I wouldn't bank on it... the newest CM ROM I can find for it is from 2015.

No Official Lineage OS 15.1 for MARLIN :( Because of no Developer...

I just chatted with someone at Lineage OS and they are looking for a Developer for Marlin for Lineage 15.1. He is stating there will be no Official Builds because they have any Devs with the device and i told him i would help find someone who would like to take over Lineage OS for Marlin. If your interested, this person is asking for your gerit username i'm guessing to see your work. Please let me know if your interested in taking over Official Lineage OS builds for Marlin at your earliest conveinence or you can contact Lineage OS yourself from the information below on how to become a Developer...
Thanks in advance,
TJ

To contribute, you’ll need to be able to produce builds for your device. Pick your device from our list of supported devices to get started.
Once you’re successfully running your own build, you can begin to make your changes. All the apps included in LineageOS can be found in packages/apps, and core parts of the system can be found in frameworks/base.

Submit your port!
If you unofficially maintain a device, and think it’s good enough to go live, follow our instructions on submitting a port. One of our developer relations staff will reach out to you, and we’ll work to get the ball rolling on official builds for your device.
Thanks again!
*edit*
If this developement stops, so will the few custom ROMs we have being they are LOS based so if there are any free and no tied up at the moment, or wants to take on another project, PLEASE do this for the Pixel XL Custom ROM Community! Not only I would gladly appreciate your hard work but so will many others in the community. I will even donate $$$ if thats what it takes for the build and for at least weekly updates.
Invisiblek is a dev who already has unofficial builds up and running

Yea I contacted him via PM and let him know the situation with Official Builds are that they are looking for an Official Builder.
I hope you all understand the work it entitles to take on a rom project.. you really shouldn't ask people to take over someone else's work unless this dev asks themselves...

I was informed by a Lineage OS Developer that there will be NO MARLIN Official Lineage OS Builds going out any time soon, it happens that they dont even have a Dev for our Device and i;m guessing they dont have our device either... I am just putting it out there, and there may or may not be someone qualified with the time to do it. But if we get official Builds, we'll get alot more Custom ROMs...

Android Q is possible, but will require a tidious rewrite of some parts of Android, most noticable is RIL (sim card, radio and so on) and camera.
You can experiment around with different versions of Lineage OS 16.0 as a base, and then some Android Q Gsi, but depending on the Gsi you choose and LOS build you based on, it may boot, but things may not work.
For more Information, you may want to visit the Guide I made a while ago in the, well, guides section of the G5s.
In the meantime, consider joining one of the telegram groups (the main one is mainly Portuguese, idk why)

Okay, a new release of CAF (Aosp optimized by Qualcomm) got released, but it uses some new Repository structure. Thaaaaats annoying
Im Going to GSI port Havoc 3.5, just wait

Hey! Remember Me?
Yeah I did it
"MotoX Project
idk why i choose that name, but this is a place for my "creations" mainly android Q Gsi development and maybe some OOS updates
Everything here is distributed in either .zip files or .img files and with permission by the owners"
https://t.me/MotoXProject
You should get telegram for this if you don't have it already
not nice these motoproject people on telegram
thought they was helping me change OS on a moto Montana G5 and i get muted for typing too much. and they gave me a dodgy OS to run on my phone essentially bricking my phone.. so luckily i backed up the stock OS before doing anything so whatever you do guys don't trust the team on telegram. they only there to wind you up and destroy ya phone

Question Will there be a Custom Rom available in the future ?

Hello colleagues and friends
I am thinking about buying this phone but before that I would like to ask if anyone has information about the work on Costum rom for this device?
I've started reading about how to build Lineage OS for a new phone. I've never done that before, so don't hold your breath. Maybe I'll succeed, maybe I'll fail. I've ordered my phone almost a week ago, but it hasn't shipped yet. Custom ROMs generally only happen for popular phones, so while I hope developers will join in here, I'm not super optimistic.
No
And even if there was it would be very very very buggy
As Kernel sources are not released
maybe we are writing petitions to nubi with a request to make the sources for this model public
Lol! I went to help.redmagic.gg and opened a chat asking for the kernel source code. They asked me to be more specific, so I said that in order to build Lineage OS (and other ROMs thereafter) I would need the kernel source code for the Redmagic 8 pro. They said they have escalated my request, and I should watch my email. I give this a 0.05% chance of success.

Customer support is garbage. I am using the OS set to Hungarian. The language is not officially supported so most things are in English (which is ok for meg), except for 1 thing. The update page is displayed in Spanish for some weird reason. I reported this 3 years ago.
No fix in Red Magic OS as of yet.
Well, it didn't take RedMagic long to tell me no:
We would like to inform you that kernel source code has not been released now, once it is released we can provide it for you.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us back.

Let them know it will boost the sales like moto edge s pro did if redmagic 8 would be the first 8 gen 2 phone that allows to install custom rom.
Red magic 8 has unique design, useful cooling fan. It is a good phone but branding is not popular.
I also send a really long text maybe if enough people asking them, they will finally give up lol

I'd recommend going for Paranoid Android (PA) as it's CAF (basically Qualcomm patches to AOSP). It also was built for Asus Zenfone 9 (8+ Gen 1), so similar steps for RM8 Pro could probably be followed. Maybe you can ask someone from PA team (or the Zenfone 9 maintainer) for help.
Also asked support for kernel source code, but most likely we could use one from Qualcomm (but it's not public, unfortunately, so we need to register there somehow)
Can someone write such a request in English and post it here in the thread and provide a link where I can send it to anyone who wants to copy it and send it Thanks

There are also OnePlus 11 kernel sources available, but they all might have different device trees (same GPIOs are used differently). In worst case scenario one could fry the phone.
AFAIK we could extract GPIO information from boot.img, but I'd wait for official source code to be released. They published 7s Pro sources, so there is a high chance that 8 Pro will be published as well (GPLv2 obliges them to do so, but who cares)

Looks like the 7s Pro was released on July 11th, and the kernel source code was released on October 27th? So a 3.5 month gap maybe. The 8 Pro was released the last week of last year, right? So optimistically we're talking about mid-April?

I guess we are not getting kernel source code unless zte wants to release it somewhere in the future. Their support refuses to publish it (not that they have sources, but still), seems that this comes from their management.
BTW, there's a kernel for NX711J (Nubia Z50) here, maybe it could be used.
UPD: I just got an email from support. They finally agreed to provide source code, it will be uploaded soon. I'll publish a link as soon as I get it. No EDL package tho.

Now I propose to write a firehose public request for the edl package he can give too
Well, in my opinion, you should ask people who make costum rom to be interested in this model
