[RR] Pie - RAM Management - Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro Questions & Answers

Is it normal for Android OS to use this much ram?
This is a 4GB variant, I have like 2.1 to 2.5GB of free ram on boot. After using the device for 3-4 days (without reboot) the phone used to become extremely slow. I am using Kernel Audiutor to manage the heap now. Still, is it OK for Android OS to use this bytes?

[Q] RAM usage.

Hello guys,I'm using BioHazard_W v.4 ROM, and the RAM usage of it's pretty high, how to lower the ram usage on it?
It's always over 240mb from 350, I wan't to tweak that RAM usage to 150-200 normaly, any advice on that?

240 MB used out of 350 MB ... that means 110 MB free.
That's a respectable number.
Now let me tell you one interesting thing about Linux : free RAM is useless RAM.
Whenever possible, Linux will leave you with as low free RAM as possible, and use the rest of the RAM for caching. This will not only make the system goes faster, but -- in case of portable devices -- reduce power usage as most of the most-often used data is kept in memory, saving the device from having to access a storage media (which consumes more power than accessing the RAM).
So... if your system is not suffering from endless lags and redraws... just ignore the RAM usage.

Btw, my phone had 40mb of RAM free right now when I checked, and I can't multitask successful, when I minimize something and open something else, then, when I decide to open the previous app, it reloads again, and I just wan't it to be on RAM and minimized.
Any suggestions how to make the multitaskin way better?

In that case, try cutting down on apps that continuously run in the background.
In my phone, apps that run in the background are : Google+, Avast!, Pulse (update every 3 hours), Tasks+, Widgetsoid, and CPU Tuner. All other apps I prevent from starting using AutoStarts.

Ok, will try.
But I found another solution for that.

That pimp tool is awesome, you can tweak multitasking, RAM, toucscreen smoothness.
Almost everything.

How much free RAM are you guys getting?

Im on 10.5. 4.4.2 NFB. Debloated rom. Stock kernel and touchwiz. Most services frizes. Even samsung accounts.
Omly get 1gig Free RAM.
WHat the heck is the rest of the 3gig RAM being used on?:silly:
It is used for caching etc. Same on Linux.

i have about 60% free , maybe about 1.5gb in use ?
Yes, after fresh boot mine shows 2,71 GB total, 1,6GB free, 0,98GB in use.
But after launching (and closing) couple of apps it should use all RAM for caching finally. You do not get it back free even after killing the app. So this number doesn't say anything. What's in the cache depends on what you have been doing so far.
Don't forget a considerable chunk of ram is used for the screen's memory. The Nexus 10 has the same screen resolution as the Tab S and it's overall free memory is reduced due to screen resolution.

1 GB is reserved for swap. Usage can be viewed with disk info app.
mine varies around 1GB free however not all the time and why i feel that 3GB of my S allows it run much better than my Pro 10.1
i really dont care about the status of free vs used etc.. UNLESS like i experience on my personal computers it becomes clear a device just needs more to function smoothly.
my example i have a Mac Mini that was running sluggish and with 4GB ram it generally had about 800MB free during my workday. i installed 8GB ram and now it generally sits at 5.7GB used all day where when it had 4GB it sat at 3.2GB used
point is the Mini wanted about 5-6GB Ram to settle in around but would run on 4GB if it had to with constant work to keep 4GB limitation working.
i find that with having a 10.1 Pro and 10.5 S that more than 2GB is needed and 3GB seems to be enough but can tell when the 1GB is missing on my Tab Pro.
Using clean master, genic and disable many Samsung applications I've reach 1,37 Gb used of 2,7 total.
No lag using games and chrome beta.
Some application is possible to disable only via the drawer.
Correction... 1,33... :silly:
I get 18xx after cleaning with task manager

Can you lower the ram usage?

Hi there,
I have the ZF2 with 4GB of ram. After a couple of days of usage, it seems impossible to lower the ram usage below 1.8GB even when I clear the cache of all apps.
However, when I restart the device, my ram usage is below 1GB.
I have uninstall or disabled every app I could without rooting. & I don't want to root now.
Nonetheless, I would like to keep the ram usage of my device as low as possible (2GB of ram use seems a lot to me, especially when I have one or two apps open)
Did you find a tricks or ways to keep 2gb or more ram free at all time ?
Thank you.
Simply, there is no clear way and those numbers are normal. The best memory management is with native linux, not yet available on zenfone 2.
What's the point of always having 2gb of free ram? RAM is completely useless if you aren't using it.

It's not a question of useful or useless. It's a question of is it possible and if yes, how.
Yes, keep the phone in deep sleep with all apps closed and disable everything in autostart , better yet, you can just power off the device
p.s: not even custom roms will run that low, I had cm12.1 with lg g3 3gb ram, I disabled basically everything and phone will still boot with at max 2gb free ram, maybe 2.2gb if you start killing launcher and sytem apps lol
4Gb ram with 2.2-3Gb free Ram is plenty for a cellphone. Its even plenty for a desktop unless you run hard core 3d games like crysis.
The lowest I have seen is 150Mb/1Gb usage with Nexus 7 v1 tablet yet it was hell slow. Note that the more Ram you have, the more the system will use it and cache in it. This will increase apps loading speed since they are directly loaded from Ram vs local storage.
I would love to have an app that lets you select what to cache in Ram, e.g. large high-resolution PDFs that take forever to open and load :crying: I have 300-800Mb PDFs that will take 1 min just to open.
Indeed, an option to decide what to cache would be great.
Can we expect less usage and caching with the 5.1 update or with a custom Rom?

A simple comparative for 4 roms [OCT][CM13][AOKP][RR]

Hi there.... i have been testing and trying some roms. I am trying to compare ONLY RAM-HDD usage, i would like to make some bench and some about the battery life, but it is too large...
My model was:
Install ROM + NANO GAPPS
install some apps for a dialy use (line, telegram, malmath, mathsapp, opera mini, tigo shop, "root uninstaller", WPS, fiinote, keymonk, mega, sd insight, and finally T UI).}
uninstall all the "useless apps", i mean, those that i guess that really does not give anything. All about the wallpapers, google play app and services, google sync, etc. Having a minimal functional rom. Even uninstalled the default launcher of every rom and changed it for t ui in evey case.
Closing all apps and rebooting the phone, what i got was
FOR CM ROM: (i did not got ROOT by default)
HDD usage 872 MB
RAM T UI 952 MB
RAM android 793 MB
FOR RR ROM:
HDD usage 3.87 GB
RAM T UI 1003 MB
RAM android 749 MB
FOR AOKP ROM:
HDD usage 1.17GB
RAM T UI 1005 MB
RAM android 807 MB
FOR OCT ROM:
HDD usage 1.26 GB
RAM T UI 1005
RAM android 684
The RR HDD usage is really big, i am not sure why... there is a 200MB difference between the t ui ram and android ram shown.
AOKP, RR and CM all of them are kinda the same with almost the same things. About OCT... it has not so much thing, i mean, some apps that i saw in the other are not in oct, ex. audio FX
Finally, who got the bigger aparently better perfomance was AOKP, with a decent HDD usage, pretty high ram used in t ui and higher ram in android.
I would like to ask... what do you think? what was the best rom for you and why? (perfomance pls, the aparience does not worth a ...)

MIUI 12 Ram management

I have a 4gb variant. For some reason, about 2gb RAM is always free no matter how many apps I open. What tweaks can I do so that RAM is used completely?
