Change ROM after lastest update with lock bootloeader - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Questions & Answers

Well, after update via OTA to the latest stable build (Global Stable V10.2.2.0) I have a very weird problem with camera, it makes a buzzing noise so I wanna change the version, I dont care if its a Beta or previous version.
What is the simplest way to do that without unlock bootloader?
Thanks a lot in advance.

I went from stable to global beta using local update. Bootloader locked. Simply download the latest beta.

which rom is the best for OTA?

my Mi5s arrived yesterday, system says i'm running MIUI 8.0 Global 8.0 Stable 8.0.3.0 (MAGMIDI) rom,
Is this the best rom for OTA?
Is this the latest official rom avaiable?
are there any better rom options based on MIUI which receives ota updates?
thank you in advance
Matteo
Official global rom's dont updating....now the latest version is China stable 8.2.5.0....but global stable is stayed in 8.0.3.0.....xiaomis not updating GLOBAL OFFICIAL ROM FOR MI5S....but now coming Global developer rom 7.5.18....it is good for ota....but if you dont want dev Rom...you can Root your mi5s and flash Xiaomi.eu rom....its unofficial Global Miui....and very good and stable for use....Xiaomi.eu is based on China Stable latest version but without Chinese content and with more Supported languages....
Except that Xiaomi.eu stopped their OTA support.

except as you're on 8.0.3 you're s**t out of luck - you can't update, you can't root because you can't unlock - unless you use a deep flash cable and MiFlash a different Miui ROM with OEM unlock status available.
then you can unlock, and flash any ROM

On the first attempt error occurred in 50%, so I uninstalled the driver and installed again, That's it!
Edit: I used the software from Xiaomi.
I'm using official global 8.2.1.0, is it possible to install the global dev 7.5.18 without error ?
I mean, I tried to do it using TWRP but, again, it got stuck during installation. I know it's possible with a fastboot version, but we don't have it.

How often do you get updates?

I am new to Mi 6 and I am thinking to root. But how frequent are the updates? I want to know so that I can decide whether to root now or not. And can you get updates after root?
One extra question is that you use odin for samsung phones to flash stock firmware, what you use for mi 6?
Thanks
Depends on ROM you are using. If it's DEV rom - updates are every week (thursday/friday). If it's global - updates are irregular, made in long intervals of time.
I, personally, am using xiaomi.eu dev rom (MIUI 9.1 v. 7.11.16), and I have rooted Mi6. After update you are losing root and you'll need to root again. So, answering your question - you can update safely even if you have root, but you will need to root again.
When I was switching from stock global to xiaomi.eu rom, I simply unlocked bootloader (if you have agreement from Xiaomi), flashed twrp, then flashed rom from zip. After that you have OTA updates so it's simple and easy.
If you want stock rom - I suggest using MiFlash tool.

Hey thanks man. So even with root and twrp I will get OTA updates? I am on global rom
Sure, you have to unlock the bootloader of your phone before you can install TWRP and root.
Then you can install whatever you want... MIUI Weekly ROMs, Stable ROMs, custom ROMs .. etc.

Fake Rom V9.6.6.0.OEDMIFD questions

Hi, I bought Mi Max 3 with this Fake ROM V9.6.6.0.(OEDMIFD) and unlocked bootloader.
Is there any tutorial to flash chinese and then xiaomi.eu ROMS?
Is there a procedure to relock and unlock bootloader safely? it worth the effort and the wait of 720 hours?
I am thinking on flashing LineageOS when avaliable so i need the partitions and all things ok.
Thanks.

Something odd just happened
Ok, strange story to tell. Not expecting it on my phone.I'm running an unlocked 9.6.4.0 ..theoretical dodgy rom on my Chinese 128mb machine. It runs fine , i've had no problems with it...All of a sudden , just now, i got an official OTA update to 9.6.6.0. - the quote Xiaomi " Updates to improve speed and stability." Downloaded it ,fearing the worst and questioning my sanity in doing this.Anyways, I applied it , closed my Eyes and waiting for the reboot , visions of locking the device and going into a interminable boot loop , bricking the phone. Now pleasantly surprised as it's rebooted fine, seems to work correctly and more to the point.....it remains unlocked ! Just thought i'd let everybody know.
Does this mean the 9.6.4.0 was indeed not a dodgy rom in the first place ?
That's exactly what it means and some so called "experts" here still don't get it...
Your experience shows an important detail we wasn't sure about - no we know global rom is not restricted to global device version!
This week is a week of surprises.Spent just 24 hrs on 9.6.6.0 (see the Previous Post)...last night I got another OTA update from Xiaomi. It was the Official Miui 10 Global Rom (10.0.1.0 - OEDMIFH - Security patch 1/9/2018) .Again its working fine on my Chinese 128GB model....and again it remains unlocked.

Maybe because this is still in Beta stage.
The official stable version is still not released they sent out OTA update of the stable version to some devices for testing and after the feedback it will be officially sent out to all devices, so be careful that with the official release it might lock the bootloader.

Open beta general help

Hi. So I'm a new op7t owner and came from the op5, I'm familiar with stable and open beta versions on the op5 but this is not the same on the op7t. I have attached my info screen which is the version the phone came with so it may help to answer my questions,
When I try to install the open beta 2 from the official op pages it's saying the open beta 2 is a downgrade so I can't do this... however there is no ob3 or ob4 for me to install on the official web !!
Ob2 is the only version download available and also the stable version on the official op is an older version too to what I have now.
How am I supposed to switch over to the beta when it's only showing ob2 and Where are the ob3/4 versions ?
Very confusing compared to how easy switching from beta to stable and vice versa was on the one plus 5 !
Any help is appreciated ?
Regards

Thanks for responding, is this an official updater from OnePlus ? Excuse my ignorance but why would this be any better than the official oneplus software update pages ?
Thanks
The issue is that you have an EU handset likely with EU firmware if you haven't messed around with it yet.
For whatever reason EU updates are pulled back and regularly get behind the global and Indian versions.
I have absolutely no idea of whether there are issues introduced by flashing global firmware but I have had to do so today in order to get to beta 4.
So you have to download Oxygen Updater, go to advanced settings and change your phone to Oneplus 7t (not EU - this will switch to global), switch download option to full beta, download it and flash it as a local update.
There is absolutely no documentation or answers from OnePlus regarding the differences between firmware versions from what I can see.. only speculation from those whom have delved into the update packages and users whom have noticed subtle differences.
Long story short, if you want to try the betas you're better off switching to global at the moment.

I don't know why they don't update their website. I guess the easiest way is the updater app.
Thanks for the replies, very helpful. I just can't understand how I'm on a higher version that is actually listed in the UK official support upgrades pages !
Because the website for whatever reason hasn't been updated.
The latest stable EU release on the website seems to be 10.0.7, where in fact your device should have done an ota update to 10.0.9 out of the box. You also can't install Beta 2 that's listed on the site as it's older than 10.0.9
As suggested, Oxygen Updater is the best way to see what updates are actually available and the global firmware is the only one that seems to be updated regularly atm.
It's not an official OnePlus tool but the firmware is referenced and downloaded from OnePlus servers.

The Beta was available for a short time for EU and Global, and then it was pulled for both and put back up but not for EU (according to my Oxygen Updater)
https://www.xda-developers.com/onep...14-4-ambient-display-clocks-may-2020-patches/ (See update #1)
I just double checked and even through Oxygen Updater (with Advanced Mode turned on), device set to OnePlus 7T (EU), Open Beta (Full), Only Oxygen OS Open Beta 2 is available (I'm currently back on 10.0.9 EU as I didn't want to be on Global not knowing what the differences are)
Moral of the story is though that there's either inconsistencies across devices, or you received the update before it was pulled, or OnePlus are just utterly useless at update cycles... I believe the latter lol.

Haha I love that end analysis ? yeah checked the updater app and experienced the same. I'm okay with the version im on so can wait until they release a beta officially on the UK support pages to try. Again thanks for the responses along with all others that took time to reply. Appreciate it.
different to mine too ![/QUOTE]
Use oxygen updater. Did it not work?

Unable to update MI 10T Pro to android 11 (12.1.X - 12.5.X)

Hi,
I received yesterday a new Mi 10T Pro and tried to update to newest MIUI. I'm on 12.0.19 MIUI and system doesn't see any update. I tried to install via zip file (3 dots etc.) but every file i download (starting from 12.1 an ending to 12.5.7) ends with package verification: "You cannot flash this stable firmware".
Like I said - phone is new, EEA. I tried lot of files, option with VPN, change Regions.
Can you help? I don't want to send for guarantee cause problem with update...
I sended for guarantee and they updated phone to the newest MIUI (but I don't know details where was a problem and how they solved it). On Monday phone should return to me and I will check with next updates if it helps. I hope there will be no problems with update to MIUI 13 when it comes.
Hey bro, same is happening to me with Mi 10T normal version, is stuck with miui 12.0.11 and i cant flash stable roms or get any ota i don't think is a unit problem, if you have more details that could help me it will be appreciated.

Apparently Xiaomi stopped the OTA from A10 to A11. You'll need to unlock the bootloader and update the rom, then relock it if you want.
