So i got the update to Android 9 on my S9 AT&T and messaging has been normal when it is to only 1 person. When I get a group message, the person who started it will have their contact name show normally, but my issue is that every other person on the message only shows their phone number, not their contact name. They are definitely people I have had in my phone forever and if I message one on one with them the contact info shows. It's just group messages that show phone numbers. If i press the number it shows their name, but just looking at the texts, I have no idea who is who (like i know phone numbers). Any fix to this?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
For starters, please excuse me for the title - I really don't know how to formulate this and it might be the reason why Google couldn't help me this time.
Everyone in our team uses a Galaxy Note II - and one of them has the following problem :
When we get a text message indicating someone left us a voicemail message, we get a number of 5 to 6 digits (5555xx, where xx is the following number of that message in your mailbox). He's the only one who doesn't get that number as a touchable link that would immediately open the dialer and allow you to call that number.
I checked if it worked when you send him a text message with an actual complete phone number - and that works well. If anyone of us gets a text message with in it a succession of numbers - the numbers are always shown as link, regardless of it being a phone number or not. But not him.
I couldn't find a specific option for that in the settings. I don't think anyone of us did anything special to get that behavior.
Is this clear enough ? Can someone help with this ?
Thanks in advance.
Greetings,
Mike
I received a text message from a family member. We both have stock Touchwiz (S4 and Note 3). In the message the sender's name was listed with a comma and a string of seven numbers, like this "Name, 1234567“. I'm trying to figure out what the seven -digit number is for.
I looked in the message details and the type is shown as a Multimedia Message and the to: line shows it was sent to me with my name and phone number in parentheses, followed by a comma and the same string of seven numbers.
The sender claims they sent the pic to me only. At first I thought the numbers were for a second recipient, but I thought that a group message doesn't show other recipients phone numbers? I would also expect a phone number to be in parentheses with a plus at the beginning of the number.
Is this another phone number, or is it something else? I would appreciate any help!
I see a lot of threads on this issue. I'm hoping since most of them are dated around 2012, maybe there is a fix for this recently.
I have ElectronTeam's dn4v2 rom on my t889. There are a few issues I'm having in the past couple weeks (since flashing) but the latest is a problem with texting.
It starts with the fact that I'm not receiving group messages in Samsung's SMS app. So, I don't really like Hangouts as an SMS/MMS app, but one good thing about it is that it receives group messages and displays them as such. However, when I try to send a message to a new contact/start a new thread, it gives me the option to send from my Google voice # or Carrier Number "Unknown". I'm assuming that means the recipient will not know the text is from me?
In one of the threads, I read that if my phone number is correctly listed in "About Device", I would be able to send and receive Group messages in Samsung's SMS app( a feature introduced after JB)
In About Device>MY Phone Number> Unknown.
In my contacts, the first contact listed is ME, and my phone number is correct.
I've gone into Contacts>Settings>Contacts>Contacts to display> Sim card and my number is there.
I put the sim card in my old phone running Cyanaogen, and went into call settings etc., and the phone # is listed.
So I believe that my sim card has my number. But for some reason it's not getting recognized. Perhaps this is a rom issue?
Hi Everyone, I was wondering any of you would be able to help me with an issue I've been having. I recently purchased a redmi note 5 phone and have been using it the past week and I have come across a problem that is really bothering me. If I send a text to a new contact that I have put in my phone the phone will recognize them and display their name in the text thread however if someone sends a text to me first and I try to put their name in the phone as a new contact their number will show up in the texts instead of their name. Then I click on the text their name will pop up in the message but then it reverts back to showing the number when I back out of the text. The only solution I have found is deleting the message and the person's contact number and resending them a text after I have saved their contact name and number again. If anyone is able to help me with this problem I would be so grateful.
Thank You,
Dear Community,
I hope that this message finds you all well.
I have recently purchased a second-hand Samsung Galaxy S20 5G which runs on Android v13. I am living in the United States and LycaMobile is my provider.
Everything works well with one major exception:
I cannot send any text messages. (Receiving text messages works however.)
Whenever I try to send a text message, I immediately get the message "Free Msg: Unable to send message - Message Blocking is active." This happens with any of my 700+ contacts in the address book. On top of this, I have made sure that no contact has been accidentally blocked in the phone.
As sending text messages worked perfectly with LycaMobile and my previous Motoral phone and as it also works well when I insert another SIM card (e.g., my European provider), I assume that it has something to do with the settings of the text messages on the Samsung Galaxy S20.
I have found out that LycaMobile needs the following number entered in the Message Centre:
"Go to Lycamobile SMS settings and check, MCN (Message Centre Number). It should be +61469000111.
In SMS settings, if you see other number replace it with +61469000111 and reboot your smartphone handset."
My key problem though is that I can't access the SMS settings where I would be able to change any number in the Message Centre (as described here https://deviceguides.vodafone.co.uk/samsung/galaxy-s20-5g-android-10-0/messaging/set-up-your-phone-f...). I can't click on the field Text Messages (as displayed under Step 5!) because it does not exist on my Samsung Galaxy S20 5G ). I can only click on Multimedia Messages there.
If anybody had any idea what to do, I would be eternally gratefully. As it is currently, the phone is basically useless to me.
Many, many thanks in advance for your kind support!
Warmest regards
Eichelober
