Hi Guys,
I have a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium which I wish to root.
I've never done it before, could someone please help me.
Model number: E6853
I've tried for six hours today, no lie, and I've made no progress.
You need to install a custom recovery such as twrp, then you can flash either SuperSU or magisk. Before doing this you need to unlock your bootloader. I don't recall the specific details on how I did it for this device, but I'm pretty sure there are guides here.

If you unlock the bootloader then its easy, you just unlock it through sony site here
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
then read this
[D550X] CWM-Based Recovery 6.0.4.6 + ROOT for Xperia Z1 Compact {KitKat!} [20140320]
Now if you want to backup DRM keys first, you must root it before unlocking BL, its a bit tricky but make sure you read instructions. Heres 2 thread for more info
Root and Dual Recovery for Locked Bootloader
[GUIDE] Back up DRM Keys & unlock/relock Bootloader (Noob proof)
As for roms I've only tried CM nightly, so far so good.

Rooting without unlocking bootloader is not hard (test point method to unlockbootloader on 2011 xperias is harder). It takes time though as you need to flash 3 times (z1f/docomo model, then normal z1, root and recovery, then z1 compact), continue to recovery then resore the whole system and do the re-root in recovery. (see link posted above). Rooting to kitkat takes more time as you need to get 4.3 root before update.
Personally I find the 4.3 (124) firmware very stable and relatively bugfree. Sony stock 4.4.2 have some bugs and minor update is reportedly incoming. If you buy and got one with 4.3, installed, my recomendation is to wait updating to kitkat until the updated firmware.
Thanks for the input guys I have decided to wait for z2 compact and hope Sony will give a better quality material also I heard they gave up on ASF so I will stick to my g2 atm since 4.4.2 is absolutely brilliant on it. But definitely be waiting for the z2 compact. Sorry if I wasted your time.

Xperia Z1C owners.. i have a question about the speaker audio output quality.. i was reading the review from gsma and they mentioned about weak audio output, so what im confused about (cos i heard in many reviews) is whether the audio quality is good or not? cos volume levels can be bumped up with all the mods..
Audio for me no problem, there is a thread of mod to boot volume (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2476498) if u r rooted. For music I used V4A and better EQ quality.
there is also kitkat fix soon from sony so hopefully will sort out the kitkat bugs.

At the end of the day it's a Phone speaker so it's as good as any other Phone speaker in my opinion.
Considering the phone is water resistant to IP58, I am quite happy with the sound, I expected less.
I am currently using build 14.3.A.0.681 on Xperia Z1 Compact. As we all know this iteration has some bugs which I am currently observing. e.g. playing sounds will suddenly disappear and will be playing inside the PHONE INTERNAL SPEAKER (used for call listening), Battery Drains...
I have been thoroughly searching for KitKat 14.3.A.0.757 rooting guide for Xperia Z1 Series but unable to find any on the web. All demand Unlocking bootloader and loading that DOOMLORD tainted ftf file which i Dont want to do... If there is any proper way to make it ROOT without UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER please kindly guide me through as I want the update ASAP. All of the tips and suggestions will be appreciated wholeheartedly...
Thanks to all.....:highfive:

First of all thanks to you for your kind suggestion. For your knowledge, I rooted my current 14.3.A.0.681 Build through this same TUTORIAL and let me tell you why I have some problems there.
1- I dont see anywhere clearly written ROOT your build number 14.3.A.0.757 in this whole tutorial.
2- When I use this FLASHTOOL for some crazy reason it doesn't even show me THE LOCK/UNLOCK ICON as USABLE (non-faded).. Its always faded even the device is turned on and/or in FLASHMODE.
So if you'll be gentle enough to elaborate even more about this tutorial that how can I unlock BOOTLOADER even if I would like to *which I doubt I would* and secondly how to ROOT THE LATEST BUILD 14.3.A.0.757 because I badly want this latest update...
thank you once again.:good:

How to flash ftf without flash tool
I have the latest build and android version and I want to root my phone.
I have searched through the threads and only found root for older versions.
Is there any root available for the latest build and android?
I know I can't "officially" unlock my bootloader but is there a hack to it.. maybe an "unofficial" way?
Build Number: 10.5.1.A.0.292

If there isn't a root method available for the latest FW, consider flashing an older FTF FW (that can be rooted), then rooting, installing recovery, then flashing a stock-based custom rom (that is based on the latest FW... or something close?)
As for bootloader unlock - if your phone says "no" to bootloader unlock allowed, there is currently nothing you can do to unlock the bootloader.

Thanks for the reply.
I was going to do that but thought there might be an easier way out of it. I guess no

I am not quite sure if I understand what you are trying to do... FlashTool by Androxyde is working perfectly with C6506 (this is my phone, and I flashed it many times with no problems whatsoever). I don't know and don't care about official Sony FlashTool; never used it.
As for rooting, to my knowledge, there is no direct method for 283 and newer firmware (but I may be wrong). You need to downgrade your kernel to root. At least, that's what I did. There is detailed info on how to do that here on XDA, you just need to search for it. Here is a quick summary I outlined for someone else before. Guaranteed to work.

Thanks I'll get back to you if it worked or not
Similar problem
I also have this problem.
I have a Xperia ZL C6506 that has a bootloader that cannot be unlocked. (Bootloader unlock allow : No)
I am on 4.4.4 with the 10.5.1.A.0.292 kernel and a perma locked bootloader.
Did anyone find a way? Can I flash a new kernel without bricking my phone since I have a locked bootloader? Just trying to root the phone.
Thanks.
Hey guys,
I was just looking for a custom recovery for your XZ1 Compact, but didn't find anything.
The only thing I found is this (in my opinion: obsolete thread):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xp.../reference-xperia-debranding-rooting-t3667368
I think, this thread isn't really up to date, cause neighter TA / DRM Backup is working on our XZ1 Compact nor any TWRP recovery is out there yet, correct me if i am wrong.
So currently there is no chance to get root, even with unlocked bootloader on our XZ1 Compact, cause of a missing custom recovery?
Also xda developer [NUT] hasn't released any TWRP recovery yet:
http://nut.xperia-files.com/
Shame, let's hope some bright developer picks up a XZ1c and gets fed up with stock.
Look over into the XZ Premium forum, it's pretty much the same device.
From what I've seen, the XperiFIX, which comes with TWRP and root, works for the XZ1 devices as well. Don't quote me on that, tho.
There's also the LineageOS 15 thread where you can directly follow development.
here's a thread on the xz1 forum about root for both devices:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1/how-to/xz1-xz1-compact-lb-root-drm-backup-t3672176
the xperifix guy is considering doing a version for these devices but there's some debate over whether this would qualify for the bounty.

Yeah I know this discussion. Just wondering that there is still no root cause we have the ability to unlock the bootloader. Hoping that the lineageOS guy will get a working TWRP next week.

I think more people need to offer to 'dontate' to sToRm// 's pizza fund if he finds a root for our XZ1c.
Offer some encouragement.
The original thread is the best place
Actually I'm "remote testing" some things with users of the XZ1 Compact.
I will report details asap and update XperiFIX when it's done.
I have an Xperia Z5 Premium Dual.
e6883
Kernel 3.10.84
Android 6.0.1
Build 32.2.a.0.305
I've been trying to find a simple guide on rooting this phone. I don't want to install custom anything, just root. I already unlocked the bootloader, so why is it so difficult to find a thread on how to root this specific phone? Plenty for the Z5 compact, but that won't work here.
The only option I see is to reflash it. Problem is I have no idea which one to choose from this list
https://xpericheck.com/device/E6883
There are no options for United States. What do I pick? I live in the US.
Is there really no simpler option without flashing?
Thanks guys

if ur looking root to backup drm keys go use Backup TA v2 https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/universal-dirtycow-based-ta-backup-t3514236 this will give u temp root to get drm keys but if ur looking for device root then u must unlock bootloader because it affects system partition
