Hey all!
I've been doing some searching and can't seem to find an answer to my question: is there a proper Pixel 3 modded/alternative launcher.
I'm looking for a launcher that is identical to the stock launcher (same app drawer, home screens, gap between the search bar and dock etc) but with some extra features like app hiding and custom icons. I've looked at CPL and Rootless Launcher but they don't seem quite right.
Does anyone know if anything exists or is this something I'm going to have to do without (for now) or try and create myself?
As always, TIA!
I believe that's exactly what Lawnchair Launcher is meant to be.

Lawnchair doesn't seem to replicate 3XL launcher the same but I could be imagining things so I'll have another look.

I'd not tried Ruthless so I'll give it a go.
Thank you both!
These were almost perfect except setting them as default launcher gets rid of the suggested apps dock and search bar from the regents/app switcher.
Also, I can't seem to get the Google Feed (swipe left) to install/work properly either.
At this rate I feel I'm leaning more and more likely to root to get my perfect Pixel but doing so within the first six month voids my phone contract Toss plus my s/o is a bit of a technophobe and doesn't want me "breaking a new phone".
Root also kills my banking app and a few games I play so...gah!

Suggested app dock when swiping up is something i miss as well. Just recently began using DU Rom again now that active edge is working. That is really one of the things that i miss while using the included launcher.

I'm using Lawnchair 2 and I have to say that it's the most similar launcher to the original one at the moment.
Pie recents, feed, even actions in the app drawer, plus all the customization. Usually when you change icon pack you see the original icon in the recents screen, with lauwnchair you have the new icon pack everywhere, even in the recents.
I too want a launcher I can
Hide Apps,
Folders in the launcher itself or groups like Nova.
That's really about it . i'm using nova right now but sometimes i feel it's too heavy

Try the latest alpha of Lawnchair V2. I'm happy with it albeit without the recents dock but the only fix for that is root which I'm not in a position to do at the moment but I guess I can live without of the trade offs. Sesame Shortcuts just got integration too which is cool as well as grouped app drawer like Nova.

There is a Magisk module I think called QuickStep that will enable the recents dock and you can get Lawnchair Launcher from either APK Mirror or I follow the Telegram channel.

I can't stand the round icons that the Pixel forces to appear, often times they're just the app icon in an ugly white circle, especially for third party apps. Is there any way at all to disable them?

July! Thanks
Here it is I had one made up for my mod pack. There's a couple of other tweaks in it. Faster led blink rate and no screen on for plug and unplug of usb cable. Clear launcher data after swapping out apk. You'll need root. Use a root file browser. Then reboot. Then clear launcher data and reboot once more. After that you'll be good to go.

If you try out the Android O beta 4 from Google that just released, it has 4 icon mod display options baked in....
https://www.google.com/android/beta
Try lawnchair launcher. Is the same pixel launcher with added feature. One of them is using ur own icon pack. Also found that using latest beta (which support weather). Is actually SMOOTHER than stock pixel launcher. The developer did some tweaking to eliminate any lag or stutter on scrolling or swiping to google now page.
I've never encountered any lag or stutter on the Pixel while running stock. The phone hardware and kernel have been optimized for performance. Are you running any mods on your phone?

Thanks for the option! I actually ended up decompiling the framework-res.apk myself and changing the boolean. I think it's good to learn how myself just so I don't have to wait for someone to make a patch every time an OTA gets pushed, but thank you!

Yeah, I just didn't wanna go with O due to even worse support for Magisk. Just wanna stay on a stable build for now.

Thanks for the tip. I use Nova, the problem doesn't necessarily lie with whether or not the launcher supports icon packs. It's more that most icon packs lack support for every single app I have installed, and in that case I want to fall back on the app's default icon. However even if you switch launchers, on the Pixel those icons still get turned into these ugly white circles which is dumb. I have no idea who in Google decided that it was A+ idea to force that on people without leaving in an option to disable it easily. I mean for example I use the Acorn icon pack cause it's pretty af, but it stopped updating about a year ago and doesn't cover many newer apps. I don't wanna stack icon packs when the default icon looks just fine when not in this weird rounded mode that's forced on my phone. It's bizarre that we have to decompile and manually modify a value of a system app just to get rid of a "feature" that's not even slightly polished but is forced on everyone who owns this phone.

It seems like Google might have come to the conclusion that forcing round icons on people isn't necessarily a great idea since they added the ability to switch to square icons in Android O.

Good stuff. I immediately installed lawn chair so I never even looked. Good looks pointing that out.
I am having a really hard time finding a launcher I like, and it seems the only one that gets the closest to what I want comes with Oxygen OS, but thats not avaliable on other ROMs as far as I know. I would like quick pulldown for notifactions anywhere on launcher, pull up on app drawer, again anywhere on launcher and ability to change icon packs, hide apps. I found Lawnchair was pretty good, but it lags a TON.
Nova paid version.
Agreed, Nova Prime is by far the best. It gives you so many options you can make it look and act like anything.
Add some icon pack and you're covered 100%.
Even free version of Nova is quite powerful so it's still a good choice if you're not willing to spend money (you don't get gestures with free version though).
P.S.: it goes on sale every now and then so you can wait a bit to get it cheaper. Holiday season is coming, sales are to be expected.

Yes, Nova Prime, or (as odd as it may seem) the Microsoft Launcher. The thing is free and with some surprising little nifty features like pulling up on the app drawer to reveal some hidden shortcuts for controls like Wi-Fi, bluetooth, flashlight, a tiny bit reminiscent of the iOS Control Center.
You ALSO have the quick pulldown.
I'm amazed myself to be pleased by a Microsoft product, but there it is.
EDIT: If you decide to try it out, make sure to not forget to switch the search engine away from Bing, they're still trying to promote that. -.-

Hi you can get the app drawer swipe from anywhere on screen from below steps.
1. Open nova settings
2. goto Gestures & inputs -> Gestures
3. select Swipe up gesture and assign App drawer to it.
Hit thanks if it worked for you.

157 update allows you to change default launcher here's how I've not messed much cause I'm happy with huawei launcher let me know how others get on with other launchers.. Always force stop huawei launcher when you clear default to begin as on video
Screenshot i missed
You could always try to reset settings so you can choose your launcher , I'm sure people will mess about with it for those interested in using a different launcher
I don't use ADB but I'm sure if you delete huawei launcher you can then set any without any bugs if any

Thanks for trying square home :good:
Progress, but I'm still seeing the launcher switch back to The Huawei home launcher every time I try to access recent apps. In Nova I set a gesture to "pinch out" and I get to the recent apps list, then when I swipe up to go home it crashes back to Huawei app. Maybe in the next update this will be fixed. These updates seem to be coming out pretty rapidly.

Yep - nice that /i can see the default launcher option... Not nice that I can't change it.
Hope that it gets a FIX (yes, Huawei, it is not cool at the moment), before I get my break over December and can have NOVA or other launcher before then - I guess, otherwise, it will be looking at ADB option and deleting the HOME app as per suggestion.

On the plus side, i've had my EVR-TL00 for only 9 days and in that time had THREE updates from Huawei. They must have sold millions of these things in china to get that kind of update frequency. This could in theory be fixed in less than a week.

There is definitely an upside to this phone. I am extremely happy in almost all other aspects of it. As a user in China, my battery life suffers massively form using a vpn constantly. I have never had a phone that could last a whole (real) long day - ie from 7am to 1 or 2 am.
This one delivers. The camera is also a massive upgrade form S8+
It is awesome!

Was weird, it was working for me initially for like half a day after switching via Twist - but I managed to break it. Ha ha - so XDA of me. Despite it sticking and working in NOVA, the swipe up gesture wouldn't take me back to the home screen and I really liked that. So I then went into gestures on nova settings... and the rest is history, I guess I probably updated some permissions or so forth... changed the gestures through NOVA. Bing-ba-da-boom. No longer works
PLEASE HUAWEI - READ THIS AND GIVE ME MY LAUNCHER FOR XMAS/FESTIVUS/HANUKKAH/DIWALI/HALLOWEEN/ETC.
Well as for me. I removed stock launcher via adb. I like Apex launcher, it's simplicity and the things that it can do. I don't use the default gestures and nav bar. I use Pie Control and I'm happy.
Don't know if everyone has this issue, but I've installed Nova and every time I rebooted my first home action went to the pixel launcher instead of Nova. After each reboot I was having to launch Nova, go into settings and set it as the default launcher again to make it work right. Freezing the pixel launcher disables the recent apps.
Doing some digging I found something that solved this for me. It has something to do with the broadcast receivers the pixel launcher is requesting.
I used SD maid to disable all of the pixel launchers broadcast receivers and it works great.
Hope this helps someone save some time as it wasn't straightforward to search for.
Never had this issue and I've been using nova since day one. And gestures work perfectly
Doesn't Nova break QuickSwitch recents though?
I've not had issues using the native gestures together with Nova Launcher. QuickSwitch works too. What I did was set the default launcher as Nova Launcher from the Pixel Settings app, doing it from Nova Launcher settings doesn't seem to make it stick for some reason.

I went to the receiver manager, clicked the three dots in the upper right, checked other and they showed up.
I also found that if I wait a bit after the home screen comes up before using it it doesn't have the weird launcher behavior. So it might have been a matter of waiting long enough for initialization too.

You are most probably using 3 rd party Launcher.?
As "more options" is only to access Android /Google swipe
navigation or choose Samsung swipe gestures
This is greyed out as Google gesture is not compatible with 3rd party launchers eg Nova Prime... etc
If you go to your stock Samsung launcher and from stock launcher, back to Settings /Display /Navigation.... "more options " is enabled.
Good luck.

Problem is not solved. You still can't use Nova with Google gesture.

I think you misunderstood OP.
The problem solved was the issue, that he could not access
"more options" in Navigation. It was greyed out.
I advised him to go to Samsung stocked launcher
and within Samsung stock launcher
"more options" will be enabled.
This is what he meant with "Problem solved"
He now knows how to access relevant
"more options" in Settings /Display / Navigation
His thread heading basically says it all.
He has solved his issue.... on how to access "more options"
Good luck.

as per, my previous post explained .
It only works in Samsung stock launcher and if you go to your stock launcher ,
SETTINGS /DISPLAY /NAVIGATION the "more options " should be accessible and you should be able to enable it and access the following/ next menu .
Take note,
You can only use Google 's navigation in Samsung's stock launcher .
Overall , no 3 rd party launcher is supported unless you root etc .
Apparently ,eg Nova Prime launcher dev , stated they are waiting for Google to fix issue .???
That apparently is going to take time ....if Google will fix it .
good luck

Yes, I'm aware of users saying /claiming it works
with Lawnchair.
With root or not, i personally cannot say.
You obviously know more .
To me i have tried Google navigation.
Personally it's.. nothing
special to stress about., if not working.!
With Samsung gestures and Samsung One hand operation + combined
I can basically achieve same gestures plus many more.!
Actually even better results.
Anyway thats my personal opinion.
Good luck.
Dont know why folk are saying this is googles problem?, 3rd party launchers work with the new navigation on Pixel Phones, Also my Asus Zenfone 5Z with android 10 works with 3rd party launchers with the new navigation. I would say this is Samsung has not updated their base to include googles fix.
Can we still use gestures on the Navigation buttons? This used to work with Android 9. I dont want to hide the Navigation buttons but still want to be able to swipe on home button to switch between apps. I miss that dearly.

Why I'm saying it is Google issue, is because i read on the Nova, reddit
sub forum , Nova 's dev, indicating, compatibility can only be fixed by an Google update etc etc.
So for me as I'm using Nova Prime, i accept his explanation..!
So if Google has already patched it
and Samsung sitting on it, fine. !
For me personally i could not care less, who 's responsibility
it is... or if "they" fix it or not.
I only assisted OP. to solve his dilemma /question
I rather use Samsung Gestures combined with One Hand Operation +
But that's my personal preference. .
Good luck.

I would suggest if you really want Navigation buttons and swipe.....
Use combo.....
Firstly
go to Device./Settings /Display /Navigation / and choose the navigation buttons option.
Combine it with Samsung One hand Operations + app,
(Should find it in Play Store ?, as i always updated it from Play Store)
if you haven't got it installed.
Install and set your swipe preferences.
So now you got Samsung navigation buttons enabled and swipe gestures of your choice, all in one..

Thanks, what's the app called? I don't use the One Hand mode. My hands are big so I can easily use the normal mode.
I just want to be able to use swipe gesture on the navigation buttons.
Thanks again.
