Hi all,
I've been going thro' the rigmarole of upgrading the Radio and the ROM. Tinkering with the device, making it a power users dream machine.
But, I tell you, my device sucks as a phone!
My friends are fed up of my calls breaking up while I talk to them. I thought it was my by bluetooth headset (a Jabra 250v) but even without it, while I hold my beloved brick against my head the calls keep breaking up! I thought this new imate ROM (dated 20 Feb 2006) was the answer to my prayers, but frankly I think the call quality has deteriorated.
Sure it's faster than before but I paid for a phone too, damn it! It's degrading into a sad joke. And I paid a handsome amount for a joke I don't find funny.
So tell me, am I alone or is anyone else suffering like me?
The ROM installs, and Extended_ROM customizations etc are all fun, but pointless if the phone doesn't work!
Yeah, I've had a pda and a phone for years. I thought this would be a truly convergence device. But I read on the forums of ppl (true Power users) carrying a 'real' phone and a universal. So did this $1000 investment fail?
I don't know, but I miss my Eten M500.
I am truly disillusioned. And yes I've upgraded to the new ROM version JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship.
But it hasn't solved my Radio/ Bluetooth problems.
ok, rant over. I'm headed off to a bar for some drinks.
FWIW I live in Mumbai, India and use the Hutch network.
Fellow suffers pm me so I know it's not my device, since service out here is non existent and I'd just have to flog it on ebay. And it's a shame because I just love the screen.
peace

Hi,
It is Hutch network not the phone, all SP'S in india are getting choked due to the cheap tarrifs that they are rolling out.
The rom upgrade is nothing to do with voice breaking. Try 1.09.0 Radio upgrade it is awsome with out any issues.
Cheers, Taurus
Thanks for the reply but the upgraded ROM includes the 10900 Radio.
ie. JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_wwe_ship
the hutch network sounds fine on my ol nokia 6600, no probs.
and the jabra 250v works flawlessly with it.
I could use it and my trusty ol palm pda. Keep the "brick" at home.
sheesh! I put down a $1000 to get the latest technology, and i'm considering my old nokia and palm, because I have it (wouldn't cost me anything) and I know it works!
I had the version 10800 Radio before this I feel it was better, but then it's just my subjective observation.
boy am I in a dark mood.

I have the same combination i mean Jabra 250V + Dopod 900. I am running with 1.13 Rom + 1.9.0 Radio Version. In singapore i do not have any Voice breaking problem it works flawlessly.
When i travelled to india with the same combination it was the worst. Especially with Airtel / Hutch.
Probably 6600 is a strong one & manages well for indian scenario.
I can confirm that mine works flawlessly as a phone in the UK with a motorola HS850 headset - maybe it is the Hutch network??
ive never had a call break in the middle ...my jasjar is working flawlessly (in asia)
Tauras - i was in Sing for this new year - the voice calls break in Sing. I had raoming - so I used both the netwrks (I forgot Sxx was giving me UMTS I think - it was worse than the other). When I was on ship - my siemens worked flawlessly but Imate was without netwrk. Same in Malaysia where Imate spent most of the time searching, my nokia and Siemens were dead on clinging to their netwrks.
In Delhi - I switch netwrks a lot - but on GSM - few call drops. I was given UMTS by ... Airtel? Call drops.
I think all this problem is UMTS radio not being stable. In GSM mode - this is at least as stable as other cheap chinese made phones. But cant touch the stability of calls of Siemens/Nokia/SE.
Yes - This phone is useless. Its more of a beta device - The BT device never works as designed. Looses netwrks more often that other phones. And the problem of BT having its own mind was never solved.
jasjar works fine with any bluetooth any radio version...even Exec...in India in Mumbai...in Pune...in Bangalore.....with any provider...also with BSNL
Just to confirm ...
Mine too is absolutely fine after the Radio upgrade
Although I admit I had some issues with the phone with all the previous Roms
hello
i can confirm that i am having no issues with the new imate rom on my exec.
all is working fine and good voice clarity on the hcb300 SonyErricson bluetooth hands free carkit, used yesterday for about an hour whilst driving home no issues at all except the usual signal loss on the hilly area of the M1 motorway!!
cheers
EDIT:Signal loss meaning phone reception and not bluetooth. Sorry for not being clear

You obviously are not aloof with the fact that Bluetooth switches itself off after some time.
And
Whats BT got to do with the network?
Think before you talk. We are discussing here the shortcomings and faults of the phone. I mentioned BT becasue it never wrks reliably. Exactly like the radio of Universal.

Do you use handsfree profile or Headset? Headset profile never had any problem. Its the easiest profile to implement.
My bluetooth and phone functions work perfectly.
I've never had any problems with mine at all. Bluetooth mains connection for significant car journeys whilst connected to my gps car kit - phone has been very stable through all releases that i have tried.
Please don't be as quick to dismiss other people's experiences when you are trying to get your own across.
I have this problem: can't play streaming URL with WMP. When I try to lounch it via PIE or via WMP, appears this WMP message:
Cannot play any items in the playlist. For additional information,...
Did someone experience the same?

I must admit I think I've noticed this too. I don't have any call breaks, but the quality of the sound seems to have deteriorated somewhat - not to a large degree, but enough to be noticable.
I'll try to downgrade to 1.08 and will report the findings.
Sounds to me like you have an intermittent hardware fault with your phone that no amount of ROMming about will solve. Is this a feasible concideration?
Andy
I have Cingular 8525. I tried every possible Mobile 6 image with all the hacks that I could think of. The phone always bonds correctly with my Nissan Sentra but audio is a hit and miss. It sometimes works perfectly, sometimes with a 2 to 6 seconds delay and then it just stops carrying the audio.
Mobile 5 works perfectly fine (Bluetooth wise) and I am running it at the moment.
I know that this is a common issue, Nissan, Toyota, Citroen, Renault and others seem to have the same issue with Mobile 6.
I called yesterday Microsoft and Nissan as I was running out of options specially that all new devices like the Tilt (Kaiser) are mobile 6 only anyway.
Nissan did listen to me while Microsoft was asking for $80 dollars in order to try to help me with this "incident" although they understand that I am reporting an issue and not asking for personal setup assistance. ... go figure.
Anyway, I am not expecting any miracles but simply thought to keep awareness of this issue hoping that either someones manages to find a magic setting or MS somehow releases a fix.
I managed to get a third party stack (windcomm) almost working but it was very instable to consider a workable solution.
I am even considering writing a news article about it next week as I feel that Microsoft's perspective is not to fix it and force the car manufacturers to support its BT stack.
I know I can go with the third party bluetooth route but It pains me that my wife's RAZR phone works flawlessly and my prized device cannot.
Has anyone considered using somethig like this? If so... w
What details can you provide?
Looking at this: amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003ZWGEW8/ref=mp_s_a_3?qid=1286173037&sr=8-3

you should look into Android and bluetooth HID support. A lot of bluetooth keyboards require you to use HID bluetooth profile (which is actually a pretty standard thing) but Android doesnt natively support it.
It looks like theres a way to manually get HID bluetooth keyboards to work by typing in some command switches and maybe writing a script to semi-automate it. Or there is a for-pay program y ou can download but reviews seem to suggest it may not be reliable and might be buggy.
So in short, if the keyboard uses HID bluetooth (like my stowaway/igo bluetooth keyboard) it wont work out of the box with our phones. It'll see and try to pair, but thats the end of it.
Quite sad really, as my 5 year old Dell Axim winmo phone could do it, and so does the iphone/ipad/ipod as of a few updates back...
Apparantly the galaxy s 2.2 supports HID according to an xda member ^_^

thats great! I hadn't seen that. Too bad we don't have official 2.2 yet, could've been very useful for me personally too, as I'm going oversees for 1 month next week, and am going to try and not be bring a laptop.
I sent mine back to Amazon for a refund. I truly wish it worked, the keypad is almost the same dimensions as my phone and feels decent for a keypad. But I have a HTC Incredible and the device driver won't work with the Incredible's lousy Bluetooth stack.
Have any of you tried using a Galaxy player as a bluetooth headset for the tablet to make phone calls? If so, how did you fare?
I'm thinking of picking up a used Galaxy player 3.6 to use as a headset paired to the 3g GN 10.1 I just ordered. I've never been a fan of bluetooth earpiece which have to remain in-ear constantly, I like the idea of answering a pocketable, phonelike alternative that I could also use to spot check emails while I leave the note in my backpack while commuting. I dont care about the performance of the player for gaming and the display size, obviously if I have the time to care about what im looking at I'd be whipping out the tablet. Just looking to see if anyone has done this and enjoyed it, or if I should just bite the bullet and buy a traditional BT headset.
Any suggestions on viable, handset-like alternative from other companies is welcome, too.
While looking into whether the GN 10.1 can be used for voice cell phone calls in the US, I stumbled across this handy - if weird - little bluetooth device.
I'll let the article on this "stylus-phone" speak for itself.

Holy crap thats cool. I might get one of those just for the sake of having all the available accessories. I'd propbably use something like that sparingly, because I'd need to A) Really keep track of that thing, and B) need to have the Tablet open in front of my to see who's calling. I'm proabably still leaning towards the Galaxy Player to to get the caller function. The 3.6 im watching on ebay is actually cheaper than the Bluetooth S Pen
I guess I go really go old school and get one of the OLD samsung Yepp mp3 players.. they had this functionality to, but with them I need a proprietary charger and I'd lose email checking. Dammit this is complicated. lol.
This would be really great to see come to fruition. I wonder if an app would need to be developed to properly pair the phone to the tablet.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
From my understanding, Its lees about an app than it is about the Bluetooth Profile. The Galaxy Players give you the proper Profile (plus earpiece and built in Mic) to do this affectively. You get caller ID, and headset functionality. You can pair phones to other phones but never have the option to set what type of profile youd like the pairing to utilize. Would/Could an app do this type of thing, or would it have to be a tweak/add to the bluetooth profile?
Lol, I never get too deep in this. When in doubt - throw money at the problem
just got a 2016 toyota camry sE , spec edition with Entune Audio Plus package that includes an upgraded 7-inch touchscreen, satellite radio and HD radio.
is there any way to have google maps app work with this system? toyota says no, but there should be a way as other app function with this android integration system. I am currently using a note 3 on verizon and planning on a nexus 6p
as my next phone. the note 3 pairs well for phone and audio. works well with "approved apps" google maps is not approved.
Can google maps be connected to work with toyota entunes plus?
thanks for any ideas or suggestions. i am not real literate so you may need to dumb down your ansers and tell me the type of person who might be able to help me. i am in miami, fl.
I'm pretty sure the answer is No.
Unless you add/change to an aftermarket headunit like Pionerr 4100NEX that supports Android Auto...
Most other auto OEMs are now or soon(-ish) supporting Android Auto and Apple Carplay, which provide navigation, music, messaging and hands free phone calls.
Toyota seems to be the last major holdout. But since just about every other car company is or will be supporting these Google and Apple "infotainment" systems, I think Toyota will have to as well, eventually...
Beyond this, you could mount a phone or tablet in your car, while being careful not to breach the distracted driving laws in your location.
Unfortunately Toyota continues to keep their head buried deep in the sand and market the Entune "FRUSTRATION" system as a real solution for Infotainment.
They will be following the pack to use Ford Sync sans Android Auto or Apple Auto. their strategy is to keep driver distractions to a minimum and frustration to the maximum.
As a new owner of a 2016 RAV4 Hybrid, (and my last Toyota), I have made numerous calls and sent numerous emails regarding the uselessness of Entune. I can use a Phone hanger on the screen and attach my phone and get much better performance since Entune neglected adding WiFi capabilities to the unit and Cell service thru Blue tooth is required for any "INFOTAINMENT" with the exception of XM, that does not work well either.
I am visiting the lying dealer that sold us the RAV4 this morning they claim they can make some adjustments to Entune to make it more palatable..
IMHO Entune is a lost cause, Voice recognition does not well at all, Navigation requires far to many button pushes and the constant nagging voice and commentary for every turn renders the system more than frustrating. The fact Navigation should be called NaviLost as it seldom find any accurate route to travel.
I could rant on for hours, call Toyota and email your complaints if enough Sucker, I mean buyers complain they may eventually listen.
Thanks for listening..

The Toyota Dealership could not anything but a full reset, still no change in Voice recognition dysfunction.
I am working directly with Toyota on the issue, I have requested a refund for the cost of the entune system. will update this thread once I have more information.
E-Mail call and bug Toyota to get Entune working. you may get some traction.
I too want to bash the stupid entune system. 2016 RAV4 hybrid limited, love everything about the car except the headunit.
1) they screw up the polarization of the display by 90 deg. When you put on polarized sunglasses, the screen is dimmed out compare to the display between the speedometer.
2) voice recognition is slow and retarded. > Half of the time it guesses wrong.
3) it will freeze on you occasionally and you have to hold the power button to reboot
4) USB support sucks. no playlist support, no search by folder
5) JBL greenedge is lame...bass is not rich even with the subwoofer. My prius with JBL kicks ass in comparsion.
6) And of course they lock you out of destination input while driving...but why can't I search POI via voice while driving? (same as my prius though)
These are just off top of my head, I am sure there are more...

I have 2015 Prius V- trim 5 and DON't even get me started on the navi/entune system. Everyday I can't imagine they EVER attempting a product test and have this thing ever "pass." All I can say is be grateful... grateful you didn't buy your vehicle a year earlier. The 1st gen of that headunit would randomly turn off at daytime temps above 75F. Toyota put out a TSB and the entire cluster%^&* took 3 months in supplier (Panasonic) delays in fixing. FYI - check your map date... it should be at least a year old. They update them in the fall and for you to get it updated I've hear it costs HUNDREDS of $$ @ the dealer...just to load an SD card.
Miralink would definitely fix your problems so as far as a solution...
I have found 2 wiring options but tried none as of yet.
A company called CRUX makes an adapter to free up the A/V input and allow A/V inputs to be ran while vehicle is in motion (VIM)
The adapter for my vehicle - and likely yours - is part # VIMTY-05 (I'd post direct links but I'm not sure about url rules... it should be easy to find). $100
I've also found a company out of Russia called "car-solution" that supplies a similar product with part # 843116 that should do something similar as well. $45 + shipping (select HK warehouse, not EU)
From there both kits should allow you to connect a 12VDC miracast w/ analog a/v inputs and allow you to connect Apple/android devices via wifi.... these are commonly available on Amazon/ebay for $60-$100 range
Total cost to do it yourself should be less than $200.
Both option will likely void some warranty... just like going aftermarket... and as I mentioned before... I haven't verified it YET. MY frustration is getting to the point I might make this a project this week.

I pushed back hard and got an 8 year platinum warranty at no cost. I e-mailed everyone I could find at Toyota and finally got national sales to get involved.
The dealer offered to buy back the car at very big loss... At any rate The Toyota engineers indicated the unit is working as designed... When I can get the cash together I will be replacing that abomination of a "Infotainment" system.
This is interesting.
Just got a 2016 Highlander Limited Platinum AWD for the wifey and was thinking about this. OEM i know toyota won't do this. Coming from Jeep forums as i have a 14 JGC there are a few hacks. But someone has to do it. And the hack is part software and there is an adapter you have to connect at the back of the radio. Meaning you have to get behind the Dash. Luckily for the GC getting to the back of the radio is simple as you need to simply remove the trim around the radio and ac vents, unscrew a few screws, unplug a few things and plug in the adapter. The adapter is straight plug and play and enables the text input while driving, provides video for up to two video outputs for cam or anything you want to play on your head unit. I have it and set it up with a push 2 tv so i can mirror my android screen.
Will need to speak to them and see if they can get into the entune system. Its really based on demand though. I'm sure its not cheap to do so.
2018 And nothing has changed.
What a huge bungle on Toyota's part. My 2018 Highlander XLE with the "Premium" Entune is still abysmal. Toyota is giving everyone a good reason to my a Honda.

Based on a YouTube video (which I'm not allowed to post, because I'm new here) , if you live in the UK, it is possible to send google map directions to a Toyota navigation system. I guess Toyota USA is not smart enough to do this.
