Hi,
I'm waiting for my Samsung Galaxy S II to arrive in the mail that I just bought on Ebay for $770 CAD. I was wondering what were the best cases available that won't detract from the phone's, 'sexyness'. Here are a few cases I thought looked nice on Ebay:
Barely There Case:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...00292&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2449wt_1115
Leather 'Wallet' Case:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...58999&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_3824wt_1115
Mesh Case:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/Samsung-Genuine-...Accessories&hash=item2a119b4aec#ht_4050wt_957
Does anyone know what would be the best case for what I'm looking for? I'm focused on quality and looks rather than the price.
UPDATE: I just read the thread rules that stated "no advertising of any kind". Please note that I am not advertising these products. I am only posting them here for comparative purposes, with no intention to sell any products.
UPDATE 2: I bought the "barely there TOUGH" case. It was a little more expensive than the average case (I think it's going for 30 on ebay as of dec 16) but let me tell you, it is probably the only case you'll ever need for this phone. It feels like my phone is wearing a badass suit while still lookin fresh. Buy this case. You'll love it.

barely there and mesh case are similar..both are slim ,light.. both look perfect..
mesh case has holes that might help on heat transfer from the phone, and can be removed much easier than the barely there case..
both do not cover top and bottom of the phone(barely there protects about 0.5cm more)..
in terms of the two in my opinion mesh case is better,,
the other case protects much more..but makes your phone extra large..
its a matter of personal taste
I like the mesh case, but I doubt these cases will protect the phone from any falls. I really like the Rearth case, and the mesh case. I'm waiting now for a Case-Mate Pop case I'm going to review, which will be out in august or september as I was told from CM. The best thin cases? I really REALLY like the Rearth case. I reviewed it just yesterday, check out my sig for that. The Mesh case, which I also own, are very good, and leave the phone all sexy ... The CM cases, I don't like the barely there case series. I don't know why. It makes it look too plain.
ive got the mesh case in black look great on the phone and as already stated really easy to take on and off but it does collect dust and dirty under it like a magnet. plus probably not much protection if dropped
I've got the casemate tough n it is nice, stops dust n grease, would defiantly protect from a fall. However the phone gets stupidly hot n stays hot for ages. Just ordered a mesh case to see how that goes

I have the samsung mesh in white and it collected dust under it like nobodys business! It looks sooo sexy though! Solution? I ordered a Zagg maximum protection and installed it on the back and sides... Like stated before, the case is so easy to put on it wrapped right around it perfect and you cant even tell its there. So i am totally protected (from scratches) and still look sexy and slim.

Don't care for the mesh case... tops and bottoms are completely exposed.
I'm using the SGP Ultra Capsule in Soul Black, fantastic case.
I'm waiting for this case to be back in stock: http://www.senacases.com/samsung-cases/galaxy-s-2/ultraslim/
I love how thin this phone is and I dont want to ruin it with something bulky.
Check these out, not yet available but seems to be really good

Could someone please recommend a good slip-in pouch for the GS2?
I don't feel comfortable with the hard plastic cases, as they tend to harm the phone body after sometime..

Thanks guys,
I think the Ottercase looks the best so far, as it seems to have the most protection. My only concern is that it may make the phone look too bulky.
Any experience with these cases?

I've got both the Casemate barely there and the genuine mesh case (black with italic S character).
Both are thin, lightweight and adds a better grip without making it difficult to put the phone in and out of your pocket (I use tight pants ). In fact they are very similar, but the barely there has a bit more matte color, and is a tad more gray when compared to the completely black mesh case. Also the mesh case feels a tad better in the hand, and is easier to take on and off (it still sits firmly on the phone).
As you are talking about keeping the sexiness of the phone, I would recommend the mesh case But they both are good, so you won't be disappointed either way.

Thanks for your input Hrti!
I heard a few other people saying that the mesh case doesn't quite cover the whole entire phone. And while the 'sexyness' is a huge factor, I am more concerned about keeping the phone completely protected. Cuz I'd be devastated if anything ever happened to my baby. lol.
Keep the suggestions coming!

Is it a good quality case? i.e. will it protect the phone from a fall at waist height?

Got mesh case, now back using the case mate tough. Not sure what the mesh cases point is, top n bottom completely exposed, its a dust magnet. My phone dropped from the arm of the sofa and it came clean off. I suppose it does look nice but if that's the main concern and you're not bothered about the non protection it provides you may as well not have a case. That's just my opinion anyway

Thanks for writing that - I dropped my phone last night indoors on a carpet, and I've always used the mesh case - but it popped straight off and the phone and the case were about a meter apart when they settled.... (phone was fine btw). It got me thinking if I dropped that on concrete or something it'd be pretty badly damaged!
Was looking at the case mate tough - and it's not till I just read your post now that it's convinced me to get one!
Anyone getting this case for the S3?
Any other cases that perform similarly and have decent front-glass protection?
I'm curious about what kind of case I even need.
I'm getting one as soon as it becomes available. I used a commuter on my vibrant for almost two years and loved it. I think galaxy s are a bit thin and light to begin with and preferred the feel of my phone with case on. After dropping my phone about 30 times and there being zero damage I have to say I think the commuter is the is perfect balance of form and function for a phone case.

30 times! Man....you should get something to strap your phone to your wrist! lol
But thanks for the review, I was thinking of defender, but if commuter is good enough, then defender would probably be overkill.
Why isn't it out?! Come on you Otters! Ramp up productions!!! The whole world is waiting!!!
From what I have seen, commuter case don't come with front glass protection right ?? How will it save the screen in case of a drop then ?? I'm also looking out for good case but defender is kinda too bulky for me , also don't want to lose on protection factor...
will try that when it's available
I want to get the commuter case but I'm waiting for a local seller to have it in stock cause i live in south east asia and shipping prices are a *****.

You have 3 basic paths you can take. Flips, pouches, cases, all with some drawbacks.
Flips will cover the screen which is their major benefit. The drawbacks with them are that many find it annoying in day to day use and some while covering the screen do not otherwise provide good drop protection. The ones that do both will be bulky.
Pouches cover the entire phone and usually provide at least moderate drop protection. Downsides here are that you usually drop the phone while using it and the entire time you are doing so the phone remains unprotected. It also puts another step in between you and answering a call. This one tends to be best for people who like to use their phone naked because of the look or feel.
Cases do not cover the screen. Protection otherwise varies widely depending on the case. These have the benefit of providing whatever protection they do provide at all times without having to fuss with the flip or removing and returning to a pouch.
Realistically there is no perfect case, you must compromise in some area whether it be screen protections, drop protection, bulk, ease of use, etc. For myself when I tried a flip case I most def didn't like it. Gave the pouch that came with my N1 a go for a while and I did kinda like that one until I dropped it onto the pavement while pulling it from a pouch. Those were tough phones and it survived the drop with nothing more than a few scratches but it moved me back to getting a case again. I'm fairly big and like to bulk up modern phones as I find them easier to handle so I actually prefer a bulkier case and will probably go with another tough case. Thats me though, everybody has a different take which is why there are so many options.
i'm looking to get a commuter as my last case purchase for this phone. having a phone covered in silicone and backed by hard plating is the best protection you can get for a phone.

I bought a kick stand case off eBay for my vibrant. big mistake! the case itself didn't cover the front and the plastic was gimmick. my phone was completely blowed in the front and the amoled (not glass) cracked. not repeating the same mistake and definitely buying a silicone and hard plastic case that actually cover the front like otter box

"Built-in screen protector prevents scratches while retaining the touch sensitivity of the screen."
So I guess there is some kind of protection for the front side, but it cannot be too thick as it has to retain the ability to use the touchscreen. I guess if you drop it to any sharper object which reaches over the few-millimeter outer casing, your screen will shatter like any other. The third picture at their site shows the screen protector.

yea I know that what I'm looking for is something made out of silicone that raises the screen up to avoid direct contact with a phone. I don't want a flip case as it would get it my way while typing
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well the added protection to your screen is basically provided by the soft silicone. It is a damper and it will absorb most of the energy from the drop before it ever gets to the phone itself. Unless you get the screen directly hitting a corner or a stone you will be fine probably. I have a commuter in my SGS II and it is great, I've had it for a year almost and I've dropped my phone maybe a couple of times and there is not a single scratch/broken screen. The defender is way too much and it will add a lot of bulk to the phone.

That's one of the things I like about the Otterbox too, none of the ports are exposed unless they're in use. Would be nice if they could find a way to somehow put these things on a diet w/o sacrificing protection but I guess it's a very small price to pay ensure the safety of your $600 device that contains information that is priceless
Hey fellas,
Got my hands on the Rearth Ringke Slim Lite case today, this is a thin snapback shell that protects the back and sides of your S3. Made of a polycarbonate material, it features a matte coating that feels terrific in the hand. Adds a good amount of grip, although it gets a little dirty with fingerprints. I really have nothing bad to say about this case apart from it lacks drop protection, I highly recommend it!
Check out the full review below:
I received this case yesterday but unlike you, I hate the feel of it. Maybe it's just the contrast in feeling from my Rock case, but it feels sticky to me. Also, I agree with the fingerprint issue they show very easily.
On the plus side though, this case locks on insanely tight, to the point where it's scary trying to pull it off. I have no doubt it would stay attached if you were to drop the phone. It also covers a bit more area than the Rock case does.

Yeah I completely understand, your Rock case probably has a smoother feel. There are different kinds of 'matte' finishes and I feel this one has a heavy coating, whereas other cases have a slightly smooth texture.
prefer my ebay thin case but not a bad option thanx mate
So I used my Uag case today after having my phone in the otterbox commuter since purchased it...but I've notice my phone's temps seem to be running hotter today...I mean it doesn't feel any hotter then it did with the commuter case one but the phone keeps giving me overheating warnings...could it be the case is not giving proper ventilation for the phone to disperse the heat? Anyone else with the case have the same issue?

I use a UAG White case, and have never had any problems.
I only had one overheating problem which was when I was driving and the sun was beating on the phone while I was using Navigation and playing music, so it was kind've expected.

I read a review that also said that his/her HTC One was overheating in the UAG case.
To be honest, I think all cases, short of metal ones, will retain some heat in. It will probably be best to not use any case if you want your phone to remain as cool as possible, which is what I'm doing atm.
I am thinking about getting a case for my phone, but I also want to get the leather back, but it seems like a waste to put a case over the leather back. Do you guys think a case is necessary to protect the phone?
It is a waste if choosing a back case. But a hybrid kickstand case is a good choice for your g4.
have you considered a bumper case so you get the best of both worlds?

get a bumper.
you won't have to worry if you drop your phone on the front, sides or the corners, and your leather would get as much wear as if you're going naked.
Yeah I didn't even think of a bumper. Can you guys suggest some good ones?
yes, case is necessary for me. and i am using a wallet type leather case and it's function is useful for me.
A case is not necessary if you're careful in general. That's me, but dropping your phone is practically inevitable. If I don't drop it, someone will do it for me.
Naked is always the prettiest choice, but you gotta protect your investment.
I bought a bumper, the QuickCircle, and a wallet case by Goospery.
I dig the aluminium bumper because it's discreet, but it doesn't protect the back cover that bulges out.
I like the QuiCircle flip case because it actually adds functionality (and wireless charging in some cases), but the flipping is inconvenient to me and it hides the phone
I like the Goospery wallet case beacuse of the colors and wallet convenience, but it's HUGE, it adds at least 2 cm in height to the phone
In all honesty, I'll be playing around with them, but eventually I'll go back to naked
Hope this helps
Edit:
Aluminium bumper
QuickCircle
Goospery Wallet
I got the leather-backed model, so putting a case on it sounds a bit like a waste.
No case or anything for me. I'm waiting to find a good bumper that hours on and off easily add I plan to replace the battery semi regularly. I have yet to find a bumper that goes on and off easily yet though.
I bought a cheap rubber case from Amazon (£1.50). I have the plastic backed phone so no worries about the leather but the case gives me a little more grip and a little more protection without adding much bulk. It'll do me!
I think a case is an absolute necessity. But I just have the plastic-backed phone. I wouldn't want to cover up the leather back if I had it.
I LOVE the Slim Exact Fit Hard cases. Especially the Incipio Feather because it has a nice soft matte rubbery feel, but they don't make one for the G4. Instead I have the Spigen ExactFit case. It fits exactly the same but the finish (while matte) is slick, not rubbery.
But YES a case is needed. As little protection these "slim" fit cases provide, they do a whole lot surrounding the phones body. I have dropped mine, slid it across a parking lot, and all kinds of stuff. They do help keep the phone body from getting scratched and dented.
They are like $6. Well worth it. I have sent emails to Incipio to try and convey them to do a Feather Case.
Yes a case is necessary, I dropped my g4 2 days after i got it thank god i had a case on it
Had my g4 for a week and it slid out of my pocket getting out of my truck yesterday. Cover fell off and battery spilled out and everything and now my shiny new phone has a mean scuff on the very top left corner ((
I'm looking to get a metal bumper now.. Just wish there was one of those fancy Japanese brands available for it but do they even sell lg phones in Japan?
It is not necessary if you have lots of money to change phone every month.
Case is absolutely essential. The brown leather is really slippery compared to the plastic back, I managed to launch my phone within 2 days of recieving it. The screen may have survived the impact with a case - the plastic surround certainly wouldn't have had chunks gouged out of it...
The encouragement of going without a case so that the leather wears is going to cause an awful lot of broken glass.
Yes, a case is an absolute necessity if you want to keep it safe from drops. I recommend a Spigen hybrid or something similar that can shock absorb. I had a slim hard case on my nexus 6 and after a relatively minor fall it cracked. My insurance wrote it off and gave me a cash payout. I gut a neo hybrid straight away for my G4. Breaking your phone and having to wait for insurance is a right ball break.

I usually go with a case, however I feel that the G4 with a case will be a little too large for my hands.
For me the look of deep blue back is too nice to just cover up. I've opted for no case this time as the phone feels very nice in hand.
I do want to state that the shiny metal band has already shown scratching already.
