Black transparent frames around the display. Do you have them too? It depends on the colors on the screen. If you have a bright wallpaper, you will not see them. I don't know if this is a display defect or firmware bug.

How is that like a burn-in? I see nothing like a burn in here. It looks like lcd backlight bleeding around edges. Hardware issue.
Sad story guys. Someone in miui forum says that he fix this problem with kernel adiutor, but how? For me, this is a small problem, because the appearance of a black bar around the display depends on the background. If the colors are bright, the strip is not very visible. But I still would like to know how to fix it.
That's the screen retention problem, use some custom kernel with KCAL support, set RGB values to 210/215 and you're ready to go.

Thats not screen retention. Do you see any artifacts or shadows of previous display? No, he has a black bar around screen edges, so unless he was looking at a picture of black bar around the edges at full brightness for a day, its not a burn-in and its not image retention. Its backlight bleeding, bad quality display.

I do have the same problem with you, where the display has darker frame around it. but it's disappeared one day. then I begin to play a game and sometimes I fell asleep while playing it, and yes I got some kind of retention of game's UI around the screen. the UI can clearly be seen when I am opening incognito window in chrome.
but recently I flashed a custom ROM, and guess what? the retention is disappeared.
so is this really hardware issue? can't be software issue right?
why don't you try flashing custom ROM

please try this in your phone .set your brightness in lowest .For me it's most noticeable when i'm scrolling slowly, e.g. when in the settings menu, or the twitter app. Try scrolling very slow up or down in settings,.
I think this should be common problem .please test your one .
Yes that happens, but it is not an actual screen flickering issue, rather an optical illusion created by textured backgrounds. I don’t use twitter, therefore not sure what kind of a background it has, but if you look closely at the white background displayed in phone settings, you will see that it has a textured background with very thin diagonal lines. Its more visible when the brightness is low because otherwise the lines are too light to be noticed.
Go to this page and scroll the page, you will see the same flickering effect on your computer monitor

this link shows the problem that I have with my phone .in this link I see same flickering and I understand this is a optical illusion .but I think our phones problem is not a optical illusion .because I tried several htc one x ,30% of them had this problem .also you can find this problem in any white page.
Can you find this flickering in your phone ?
what about others ?
Just as well I'm using auto brightness - no issues for me!
Seriously, are you trying to find problems??
Try with screen filter app. It flickering a lot
I found a new issue - when I look at my screen through my polarised Ray Bans I see random colours and it flickers like mad - it MUST be faulty!!

I can ONLY see the flickering effect in the settings page. It doesn't happen on any other normal white backgrounds. That is why I said it is an optical illusion.

Turn on auto brightness like a normal person
I bought my phone from an online store in Romania on February 22.I have warranty and other things, it was brand new. I kept the screen on full brightness, and Dynamic color mode. That's how I like it. I was aware of burn in so I switched colors with a display tester every 3 days or so. Yesterday I noticed that the spot where status bar is used to be in portrait mode is brighter than the rest of the screen when displaying blue, white and grey colors. Brighter not Darker. I searched on Google images and that doesn't look like burn in. It wasn't here until yesterday when I spotted it. It's barely visible with display tester but in Games videos photos and multi colored things it can't be finded, You need to look with max attention. I used Nova launcher to hide the status bar. I also heard that there are 2 different things, image retention which is fixable and permanent burn in. I searched for something like this but I don't seemed to find something good. I don't know what it is,I never browsed the Web without changing the pixels where the status bar is for more than 20 minutes. I heard burn in occurs in extreme cases. I don't know how this happened so that's why I'm asking you guys. I don't know even what to do it bothers me only in display tester, but otherwise the screen is perfect. Please give me an advice because I don't want to have a faulty screen.. Can it even be repaired under warranty for that?
No one knows what's the problem?
Maybe you could post a photo ?
Look at the top of the screen...That's actually what I'm seeing when looking on a blue test background. This kind of discoloration/brightness where the notification bar usually is when in portrait mode. This is not a screenshot or photo ,it's just a blue image that i modified to show about i'm talking about. It also happens on grey and white and cyan .I couldn't take a photo because i have a crap 7 MP shooter ,and one crapper 2 MP shooter on my old Galaxy Y.I tried them both but noone of them can catch thatstrange discoloration/burn-in/brightness
Xda don't let me to post links..That's the link without the X'es so delete X from this link to go to the image hXttp://i4XX4.tinypic.coXXm/2w4g39j.jpgX
I really don't know what this can be.
I have the same problem! I noticed it a few weeks ago. The bar on top, when in full screen mode, is slightly brighter/lighter compared to the rest of the screen. I can see it the most when using the browser. The screen looks slightly more yellow compared to the grayer (or something like that) bar. Remember the bar is not actually there, just the discoloration in its place. I have no idea what is causing this and I'm hoping it's not hardware related.
It ain't hardware if it shows up in a screenshot. Looks like the exact dimensions of the status bar, almost as if it's compositing it or it's shadow placeholder where it expects it to be. Try a different ROM, or install the Simplistic Framework and try changing the status bar's colour and transparency setting, see if it makes any difference.

I wrote that.It doesn't show up in screenshots.I edited a blue picture to look exactly like my phone screen. The problem I think it's the screen itself. And the reason for why I edited a picture is that as I said my shooters can't spot it.Any ideas? Also I use the stock ROM ,un-rooted..Everything stock ,including the notification bar.I just have a custom launcher wallpaper and widgets...
It shows up when you turn the phone in landscape mode as well. It remains on the side as a vertical discoloration where the notification bar resides when in portrait mode. I'm not pleased to say the least.

Made in china phones r crap..made in korea by samsung is gud quality
If you have the warranty the warranty, why not use it? Since the problem is from the phone itself.
This is same like what happen to OG note..i thought sammy already solve the problem when they using RGB instead of pentile on our note 2.. this is not good...
I check mine, so far nothing yet. But i afraid now!!

I always set brignest to auto and screen movie mode. So maybe it did save mine from that problem

My phone was on Dynamic and Full Brightness all the time.I love oversaturated and bright screens.LOVE AMOLED <3
Well I found a solution to the problem. It takes time to pull off and is still a work in progress for me but it's working.
I created an image that matched the resolution of the phone screen. I then made a rectangle at the top of this image that presents the exact size of the status bar and colored it white. The rest of the image was colored black.
I installed an app that keeps the screen on without dimming when plugged into the charger. Overnight I display the image I created with the screen set to stay awake and don't dim at full brightness. So what you see is a black screen with a full brightness white strip where the status bar is supposed to be.
This process quickly "ages" the status bar area and it slowly starts to match the rest of the screen. I've been doing it for almost a week and the difference between the two sections of the screen is starting to diminish. I bet a couple more weeks of this and the difference between the two sections will be gone.
I got the problem as well. And I'm telling as many people as I can because I'm annoying like that. Seriously, I hate the fact that I spent such money on faulty phone...Samsung galaxy note 2. <blech>
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
I don't know if it's an Android M thing or Nexus 5X issue but anyone notice the scrolling looks "weird?"
Meaning when you scroll through a page in Chrome, the text letters on the page kind of fade out for a sec. Once the scrolling stops, the text fades in.
I've been playing around with it some more and the text definitely fades out when scrolling. It's also unclear.
Only when the scrolling stops do the text fade in and the words became clear.
Do you by chance have magnification gesture enabled in accessibility settings? That will cause weird scrolling
No, it's not on.
I swear I'm not going crazy.
Text will fade out/fuzz out when scrolling. Once the scrolling stops, the text fades in and becomes legible.

Very odd. It does this exact same thing with the zoom/magnification gesture on. Have you tweaked anything and forgot about it in dev options maybe? Any apps that could affect this? Just reaching for straws I am
It's brand new out of the box. I haven't touched any of the settings.
Beginning to wonder if this unit is defective.

Could be. Did you get the ~43MB update and install it? Have you rebooted?
Its more seen if the brightness is low right? Yea. Its because of samsung amoled panel. The downside is .. That. Its because the screen controller latency is too high because it need to power on and power off EVERY SINGLE PIXEL. Lol. K

It does it on mine as well, but I hadn't noticed until I looked for it, but I see what you mean, it doesn't do it on the older Nexus 5, but the scrolling seems smoother on the 5X almost as if it is a deliberate thing they have done to help our eyes follow rapidly moving text, but it may just be the way they have decided to drive the panel pixels.
It isn't a fault.
Regards
Phil
I have the exact same issue.
I noticed that in static mode the font is looking good, but when I start scrolling, the font looks thinner and less clear.
I have this issue in all apps (Facebook, Chrome, Whatsapp etc). It looks a bit cheap.
If this is setting, I'd love to know how to fix this.
hey,
is there a fix for this issue?
thanks
It seems that it is an LCD panel feature. I've also this behavior on my nexus 5x (511, Mint).
I've also can clearly see pixels on a white background
Didn't notice anything like that on a Nexus 5 though.
It's the LCD panel. All LCD panels are lazy. Especially when it's cold. Try to use it below 5 or 0 celsius. This lazyness effect is more visible then. It's winter now. You won't see it as much in summer.
so the question is, if i will replace the device this thing will apear again?
I've seen that happen on LCD screens too. I believe the problem might be FPS(frames per second). You aren't achieving 30 FPS or more when scrolling thus making the screen look blurry/ faded text when scrolling. Most likely cause of this is either the GPU not able to push 30> fps or LCD latency(highly doubt).
Try different websites and report back.(some sites are resource hog and might slow down your phone) ex. try sites that you know doesn't have ton of ads
Try different browser. (some browsers like opera mini are less resource hungry and might improve rendering on screen)
Try other apps as a last resort.
if the blurry text is from LCD then LG made a poor decision on picking a low frequency screen. maybe 60hz (LCD screen refreshes 60 times)
Coming from an M7, this is really annoying, especially when scrolling through Twitter.
i am changing my huaweip10lite just becouse i'm sick of the horrible blur when i scroll up and down text espescially on dark backgrounds, maybe it's just a issue with mine but i found someone that buy my phone and so i can change it.
Really guys, can you tell me if there are long lines of blur/ghosting/smearing maybe when you scroll in nova launcher's options, that has a dark background with white text? Becouse mine screen is horrible.
I read some threads where people say that is just amoled display issue but i tried other amoleds and it is totally not as mine issue, and the huaweip10 lite doesen't have an amoled display so it make no sense for me.
I just want to check if oneplus5t doesen't have this issue becouse i see it a lot when it happens.
I think this issue is called smearing, or ghosting, or blur while scrolling. I don't know what is.

i think my issue is similar to this
Thanks for any helps guys! Peace.

Tested on my AppGeek - there's no blurred scrolling on the 5T.
And the scroll is far smoother than whatever is on that video!
thanks!
i'm going to buy the op5t or the pixel 2
I had same issues on mine when i open a lot of popup settings or just scroll down the screen blur goes crazy
Sent from my OnePlus5T using XDA Labs
Oneplus 5t also has this blur when scrolling... Not so much, but it has. Is something normal on an Amoled display...

While trying the latest miui build I noticed that blacks don't really turn the pixels off like an amoled should. You can notice this for example in the camera app at the top and bottom bars that should be black but in reality are slightly red, only noticable in a dim room or if you crank the brightness. I think this is their way of "fixing" gradient issues on this phone and it indeed is less present but at what cost?
