magisk instructions - Lenovo P2 Questions & Answers

guys please give me noob friendly instructions for installing magisk latest ver on my lenovo p2 15.1 latest build .

Same

First make sure you have USB debugging enabled on your phone, then install ADB on your PC. Connect the phone to the PC and in the installation folder (ADB > platform-tools) shift right click and choose Open command window here. Type adb devices and authorize your PC on the phone. Download the ROM and extract boot.img from it, transfer it to your phone. On the phone install Magisk Manager and patch the boot.img (Install > Patch boot image). Transfer patched_boot.img back onto the PC (to the ADB > platform-tools folder), then boot your phone into fastboot (VOL down and POWER buttons). Repeat the Open command window here step and type fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img. Reboot your phone (fastboot reboot). You are now rooted on custom ROM.

After installing magisk , do I need to install any module to prevent boot loop like f2fs loop module etc .

Check if you can install modules. If you're facing problems, then you will need to change a few things. The "cannot mount magisk_merge.img" issue for example can be solved by patching and flashing boot image from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/lenovo-p2/development/kernel-f2fs-upstreamed-kernel-twrp-t3845976. I tried tinkering with modules for it and ended up bricking my phone. I would also recommend using TWRP from this thread, it got rid of my second problem (which I now forgot).
Just remember that you will need to flash the patched custom kernel after any ROM update.

[root] redmi 4x root

Firstly this is my first helpful post so be gentle.
How to root the Redmi 4x
First off I am not accountable if your fry your device or shut down the power grid etc.
Alright. It took me some research and trial and error but I found the CORRECT way to root the Redmi 4x.
Needed files:
Lasted version of the magisk zip. DO NOT USE ANY VERSION OF SUPER SU. IT CAUSES BOOTLOOP.
TWRP for Redmi 4x
Lazy patcher.
Adb and fastboot files.
Step one:
Ensure your bootloader is unlocked. If not search XDA for a thread there are multiple threads showing you how to do it. Once that's done let's move on.
Step 2:
Alright let's get going with flashing TWRP first.
You need to enable developer options and enable USB debugging on your Redmi. To do that go to settings>about devices>scroll down>continually tap on MIUI version and a toast notification will tell you that you are now a developer>go to developer option under the more options tab and enable USB debugging.
Step 3:
Now that we've got USB debugging we can connect to Adb. Firstly download all aforementioned files and place them in the same folder as your Adb installation for ease of access. Now open up a command prompt in that folder by either typing "cmd" into the address bar or shift+right click and select open command window here. Now you need to connect your phone via USB to your computer and ensure it is connected by entering "adb devices" into the command window.
Step 4: commands
Here are the commands you will need to enter. I recommend making a backup of everything first.
Enter these commands
adb reboot bootloader
Fastboot flash recovery (put TWRPS full file name here including the .zip)
Wait for it to finish.
Now DO NOT BOOT TO SYSTEM.
Enter in fastboot reboot and hold volume up to enter recovery. If you boot to system it will remove twrp and you will have to reflash it.
Once in Twrp check the box to allow modifications and slide right.
Go to advanced and the ADB sideboard.
Now flashing magisk and lazy patcher.
Reconnect your phone to the computer and leave Twrp on sideload mode.
Enter this command
adb sideload (lazy patchers full file name here)
Now I made sure my phone still booted to system after this because every time I flashed SuperSU it would boot loop.
Once your back in sideload mode let's flash magisk.
adb sideload (magisks full file name here).
Once it's done select reboot to system from Twrp and enjoy your root!!
Again I say do not use any flashable root other than magisk. I don't know if I had a specific problem but every single one I tried resulted in bootloop.

Accidentally removed OS in OP3.

Hi all,
While trying to install custom mod i accidentally deleted my original rom as well as the custom rom from my phone. I can access twrp fast boot but while trying to install zip file its missing from phone. Any way to install any custom rom at this point?
Update : Restarted my phone ( well powered off coz of low battery) . When i charged and switched it on , twrp is not there . Instead when i go to recovery mode , the original one plus recovery mode is appearing.

Sideloading is the easiest option.
Boot into TWRP, find ADB Sideload mode (I think it's under "Advanced", not sure), connect phone to PC via USB cable and flash ROM directly from PC with "adb sideload rom-name" command.
This is a very short version, if you need me to explain anything in depth just say it

Sorry for late reply.
So, first things first, make sure you have working adb/fastboot on your PC (you can get it >>HERE<< if you need it; select Y for all options).
- download latest TWRP recovery >>HERE<<
- download a ROM of your choice
- in case you go for a custom ROM you'll probably also need latest firmware (CLICK), Gapps (CLICK) and possibly Magisk (CLICK)
- open command prompt in folder where you've put all downloaded files - hold Shift and right click in that folder > open command window here.
- boot phone into fastboot mode and connect it to PC
- type fastboot devices in cmd to see if the phone is properly recognized (should say something like "device #serial-number" IIRC)
- flash TWRP by typing fastboot flash recovery recovery-name.img
- reboot device into recovery mode. Fastboot generally doesn't support rebooting into recovery, but our phone makes it easy with that 5 second timeout on boot. Type fastboot reboot and as soon as it displays that warning screen press a volume button and then scroll to recovery with volumpe up/down.
You should be booted into TWRP now. Let's continue to flashing a ROM.
Assuming you're going for a custom ROM, start with firmware:
- select "Advanced" in TWRP
- select "ADB Sideload"
- swipe to start sideload
- type adb devices in cmd - it should recognize that the device is in sideload mode
- type adb sideload firmware.zip and wait for it to finish
- go back to main TWRP screen and repeat the steps to get into sideload mode
- type adb sideload rom-filename.zip
- repeat to flash Gapps and Magisk
If you chose to flash stock ROM rather than custom then you can skip firmware and Gapps and flash just the ROM (and possibly magisk, that's up to you).
Done! Now you can boot into system.

Want to use Sultan kernel, having flashing issues

Hey guys. Just upgraded to the android 10 October image via the adb flash-all command. Magisk rooted via adb and everything is going great. Want to install Sultan's ported kernel for Android 10. Used adb to flash twrp image and flashed the kernel zip via twrp but it keeps saying it can't mount /system and /vendor upon finishing. Upon rebooting I get stuck at the google G load screen. Have to redo flash-all and instal magisk via adb all over to get back to normal. Anyone have this problem or could offer some help? Would be great.

As long as the kernel finishes the install it's fine. The mounting errors don't matter if it finishes. The mounting errors are just a bug with Android 10. Everything I flash has those errors after it, but I am good. I am on Oct. with Magisk 20 and Sultan kernel.

So the way I'm seeing it is flash the twrp image file, flash the kernel, reboot. Then adb fastboot to bootloader and reflash patched magisk boot.img?

Do this:
Setup:
1. Download latest platform tools for your OS
2. Download latest factory image for Pixel 2 XL
3. Download twrp.img and twrp.zip
4. Download the kernel.zip you want
5. Download magisk.zip version 20
(Keep in mind those aren't the actual filenames, I am just shortening them; plus you will want to rename them for easier flashing)
Install:
1. Boot phone to bootloader.
2. Extract factory image into the platform tools folder
3. Run flash-all script
4. After done reboot back to bootloader (dont do the phone setup)
5. Now remove the factory image from platform tools (or just extract a clean platform tools folder)
6. Place twrp.img, twrp.zip, kernel.zip and magisk.zip into the platform tools folder (rename the files to make it easier to type them out when flashing with computer adb)
7. Run: fastboot boot twrp.img (or whatever you named it)
8. When in twrp, go to settings and turn off "screen timeout" there is a bug
9. Go to advanced then "adb sideload"
10. In your computer terminal type: adb sideload twrp.zip
11. Then run: adb sideload kernel.zip
12. Then run: adb sideload magisk.zip
13. Reboot to system
Should be good! Using sideload allows you to pass files from your computer to your phone, it makes it easy. If adb sideload is "hanging" or "freezing" (you should see a kinda progress bar with it's working) then reboot twrp.img and try a different USB port. There is a glitch when it hangs, where when you remove the USB cable the phone goes black; just hold power + volume down for about 10 seconds and it will boot back to bootloader.

How to root a OnePlus 7T Pro with Magisk, For Noobs!

In this guide, ill be showing you how to root your device using Magisk. This is done at your own risk, i am not responsible for corrupted images, bricked devices etc.
*NOTE: This guide is for the OnePlus 7T Pro only*
What you will need:
A windows PC - idk buy one lol?
Platform tools SDK - https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
USB cable that came with the phone
Magisk Manager APK - https://magiskapp.com/apk/
Your phones current software boot.img! You can either get this from the vendors website, or if you are running a custom OS, you should already have the file.
*Ill be assuming you are familiar with cmd, fastboot commands, and that your bootloader is already unlocked, and you are running a custom recovery! For a guide on how to do the last two things, part of my last guide can help you - https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-install-android-12-derpfest-for-noobs.4385171/ *
Step 1: Download the magisk apk from the website and install it to your device. After this, copy over the boot.img file that is from your current rom into the downloads folder of your phone! Now, open up magisk manager, and press install beside the 'Magisk' Section on the home screen. Then press 'Select and Patch a FIle'. Now you can select the boot.img file and let Magisk do its thing.
Step 2: Once that process has been completed, you should have a file beginning with 'magisk_patched....img' in your downloads folder. Copy that file over to the platform tools folder in your computer. Now boot your phone into fastboot mode and connect it to your computer. Then on your computer, go to where you placed the magisk_patched file and in the search bar in file explorer type cmd. This should open a cmd window. Then type 'fastboot reboot fastboot' in order to enter your phone into fastbootd mode.
Step 3: Type 'fastboot flash boot 'PATH TO MAGISK_PATCHED FILE'
Let this run and once its done, reboot your phone.
Go to Magisk and Voila you should be rooted!
If you have any questions please dont hesitate to ask!
If i have made any mistakes in this guide, or you guys think i should make any changes, let me know, im new to this!
Thnx for the post , and confirming that this worked perfectly with OP7T PRO Android 11 official ROM
Do I assume correctly that I would wipe everything?

Hello, up to step 3 everything was fine. I let it run its thing, and reboot, BUT it became stuck in fastboot, forever. What can I do? I tried to wipe data and everything, but it's still stuck. Is there anything I can do?
Okay, so I manage to get my phone unbricked and is now running TWRP, which it was not before doing this. Am I correct to assume that doing all this without TWRP breaks the phone?

Same here, not work too.
For OxygenOS latest, in Android 12.
--- EDIT ---
Personally I install TWRP to do mostly backups, if needed.
But you have to use this twrp for Android 12 :
OnePlus 7T Android 12 TWRP?
Hello! I'm very new to building custom recoveries, and haven't even completed a successful build yet. I have a OnePlus 7T model HD1905 (aka North American model/Global) running OOS 12. I've tried to find guides on how to make a TWRP recovery, but...

For the moment, after flash boot.img builded by Magisk is not work. But i dont try with this twrp. I dont now if this have a link...

Oppo A83 [CPH1729] TWRP RECOVERY

⚠Warning: This is not official TWRP, use it at your own risk!!!
Data will be erased. Back up if neccessary
This device is kind of weird so to flash twrp you need these things:
1. Prepare materials
Install driver so as to have access to preloader (Just install automatically and no need to do anything in device manager)
This software to access to preloader -> fastboot (fastboot is somehow not available via adb methods) Enter fastboot
This tool for flashing
2. Unlock bootloader (need testpoint, python, git (optional) - you can search on google)
Use this tool - go to this section. Follow guides to unlock bootloader (remember to use testpoint not hardware buttons)
3. Enter fastboot mode
Use latest MTK META Ultility tool
Select Reboot Fastboot Mode in BRom section
Hold volume down button. While holding connect it to your computer
*Now your phone is in fastboot mode4. Flash
Open platform-tools folder in Downloads folder
Shift + Right click then "open command window here"
Input these commands into cmd
fastboot flash boot drag twrp file to cmd
fastboot flash recovery drag twrp file to cmd.
fastboot reboot. Swipe to allow modification in twrp (to make sure that stockboot wont replace twrp). After that reboot to recovery to make it installed on your device permanently.
Now your recovery is ready to flash file you can push stock image file to your root folder using adb command: "adb push. Drag the stock image file. /" (Because Decryption right now doesnt work on my device yet)
Enjoy
*Sounds crazy but it is required to make sure twrp is installed correctly*If successful, when you power on, you will get a red section on top of your device. If you want to recover to stock recovery, flash the recovery.img below.*Also, if you want to make your own twrp, you can try recovery.img below.
Also thanks SebaUbuntu and Mofadal El-Tayeb (مُفَضَّل) for awesome apps
