Questions about a third-party panoramic camera - General Accessories

Hello everyone, I was recently gifted a 360 camera for my phone. Its A "LOLLY360 Panoramic Camera". Its cool. I found it on Amazon and apparently costs $80. You need to download the Lolly360 accompanying app in order to use it though. Which is kind of a bummer.
Herein lies my question: could there be a way to hack this thing to get it to "take over" the main camera of the phone? That way any app can utilize the 2 cameras on the accessory device?
I'm not sure where to even ask this question. Because its really more about hacking. But its hacking an accessory.....or possibly software? Like a man-in-the-middle approach? Any help would be appreciated.
This is what I think, because when I first installed the app and connected the 360cam, a popup asked me if I wanted to launch the app anytime THIS usb device is connected. And then, once connected, how does the camera talk to the app? Could there be a way to hijack this communication and use the accessory on ANY app that uses a camera? My fist instinct was to use it as a dash cam, since it has 2 super-wide angle cameras.
Anyway, thanks to anyone who can give some feedback...or a mod that moves this to the right forum...

I'm still curious if anyone has any input on this....so...bump

We needed the same thing last week. The company that built the software (IAstyle, http://www.iastyle.com) got bought by HTC recently, and it doesn't look like they'll be selling much any time soon.
and one would resell or offer this api? it will help a lot the comunity

Uhh I NEED THAT too
If anybody sdk or any clue how internaly camera comunicates... (does it use direct show system?)
LET ME KNOW pls!
I will try to use classic trick by capturing screen buffer while picture soft is running...
then my soft will put it to jpg remove jpg header and in sequence it will send it to my video stream server which then distributs it on broadband computer to more users which they will see something like this http://spaced.no-ip.com
however camera has 1 bug its picking up GSM-GPRS signal induction lines... anyway there is always way around it.[/quote]
i need the camera specification, to caputure images using my application. But there's no way for achieving this information.
please, if someone have the idea or where i can ask for....

A 'can the Desire/Android do this?' question from newbie

I just got a Desire last week having had a N900 for the last six months and I'm loving both the device and the OS. The speed, the screen, the sense UI, it's all mobile goodness.
But I do want to ask if it is possible to screencast my Desire's screen while providing a voice commentary. I work as a teacher and I wanted to be able to provide video how-to guides of certain educational apps for my students. My first thought was to physically video my phone's screen using another camera, but I discovered that my hardware isn't really up to the task.
So I thought I might be easier to somehow connect my phone to the computer via USB, display the phone screen on my computer and then use software like Camtasia to do the screen capturing.
I've searched on the net to find out if this is possible but struggled to find an answer. There was a lot of stuff about SDKs and rooting and command lines and while I have some tech knowledge, a lot of it was way over my head.
If anyone can tell me if this is possible and how I'd go about doing it in fairly simple terms I'd be grateful. I am willing to chance my arm with the strange world of rooting if I have to, though I am afraid of messing up my lovely new device. All advice and help gratefully received..

You're definitley going to need to root your phone but even at that no app like that exists for Android (Yet). It's fairly doable but you would need to get the help of a developer.
There's an app called AndroidScreenCast, search for it in the G1 forums. This will show your screen on the PC and then use a desktop recording tool to record it (I think it may actually have an inbuilt record video function though).

Thanks for that, sounds awesome and could be exactly what I need. Don't have pc access at the moment but will try it out as soon as I get home. Much appreciated!
Just tried it. Has a really slow refresh rate but works fine for basic functions i suppose!

[Q] Application Query

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but was not sure where to post it.
Just wondered if anyone had managed to find/spot a Application anywhere that does additional camera modes just yet, I know the camera has a half dozen effects builtin but it's missing such as Pencil and Xray.
I had these via a App on my iPhone 4 called Camera Illusion, however I decided to sell my iPhone 4 as soon as I could get hold of a HTC HD7 as I got a little bored of it lol
Thanks for your help guys.
Jamie
Hi Jamie
I don't think any of the launch devices have these abilities built-in, but I'm sure there will be apps that do this in the near future, if there aren't already.
In a mildly related topic, I have read the the Omnia 7 provides advanced camera options for exposure etc as well as having decent camera hardware.

Panono: Panoramic Ball Camera

Hi there,
Some of you might have already noticed our project, a ball shaped camera you can throw into the air to capture a fully spherical panorama. We are currently running an Indiegogo crowd funding campaign to raise the funds needed. We see that many campaigns nowadays launch with apps, usually only iOS and most of them don't really put much effort into their apps. We want to go a different way as I am a long member of xda-devs and include the community into the app development. As the camera is supposed to be used with a smart phone or tablet, the app is essential for the Panono.
So what does our app actually do? Well, you can re-experience the situation captured with the Panono camera by navigating the 360x360 panoramas by moving your phone/tablet like a window into the captured moment. If my English failed to make it understandable, please have a look at the video starting from 1:22.
We are facing a problem with our app which is caused by the different implementation of the gyroscope sensor reading in different phone models. Unlike on iOS, only few Android phones have a correct algorithm to calculate the current device orientation. The result is a shaky experience in our app. We are trying our best in optimizing our app to work with all devices. To address this issue, we are also having a talk at droidcon in Stockholm right now.
So what help are we seeking right now?
We need people who have a android phone with built-in gyro test the app. The following feedback would be interesting:
Device model: (e.g. Samsung S4)
Shakyness: (e.g. image is jumping around but the orientation is correct)
Lag: (e.g. it takes a while until the correct orientation is displayed)
Jumps: (e.g. the orientation jumps into some random direction for a few frames and returns to the right direction afterwards)
You can get the app here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.panono.panonoviewer
If you have any question about the Panono as the next-gen accessory for your android device, you can also post here, of course.
Thanks!

USB Accelerometer on Joying radio

Hi,
Sorry, I had already posted this on another section but I think this one is more appropriate and can't delete other post.
I have a Joying JY-NL124 android car radio, which does not have an accelerometer. I bought the Yocto 3d V2 http://www.yoctopuce.com/EN/products/usb-position-sensors/yocto-3d-v2 to see if I could get it to work with torque and other android apps for the track but although android sees the device the apps do not. I am not a programmer, but is there a way to get the apps to recognize an external accelerometer like some do for an external GPS?
Very interesting. I would like to know as well. It might also be usefull in navigation to get a faster direction orientation.
I was reading up on this again and this bit means someone with the know how would probably need to code something
The main advantage of this solution is that you don't need to install a driver to communicate with a Yoctopuce module, as the HID layer is always present. You only need to add our library, that we provide in source form, to your driving software for it to be able to directly talk to Yoctopuce modules.

Have you tried contacting them directly and asking if they can do this for you?

Uff, sorry for the late reply. Life has a way of getting in the way of interesting projects. I'm about to restart this project since I'm using the car a lot on the track. It's weird that the units don't come witha compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, etc, considering they are meant to be used in moving vehicles.
Definitely post up if you figure it out.
It would be nice to get it to work with Android as a whole. If that's the case you might need to talk to one of the ROM developers to see if it's something they can do ROM wise or even a custom kernel.(the kernel bit might be a little harder)
Did anybody get this right. It would be cool if these usb accelerometer could work in the apps

I'm very interested to understand whether this is possible as I am thinking about a similar setup. You tried the three Bluetooth tips in the roll up thread?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...roll-joying-2gb-sofia-mtcb-mtcd-tips-t3555249
"Bluetooth Tethering & BT Settings", "Difficult to pair BT devices" and "Modified stock bluetooth app to allow connection to all devices"
Have you tried external GPS for higher refresh rates or is the Head Unit gps refresh good enough for the track?

Sorry....USB not Bluetooth... Also discouraging. I was hoping USB would be an alternative to BT for track add-ons...
I too have an Android head unit and do track days, and have the exact same interest as you. I use Harry's Lap Timer. I have the Pumpkin AE0273B head unit. It too lacks the compass and accelerometer. I too found this to be a very unfortunate omission.
I have developed apps actually so I do know Android program to some degree (although I am sortof a hack, not a pro). I have apps on the Play Store (since I can't post links just search Play Store for developer JimRoal). I saw the Yocto stuff. When I get some time I will look into this some more.
Any update on this? Would also like to add a compass / accelerometer to my joying.
Also interested. But on a newer 10.0 unit. Something I am going to look into.

Sad that over 4 years after I first posted this we still don't have a unit with these features. I finally gave up and bought an AIM Solo 2 DL.
I'm looking for a newer radio though, since mine is older than this thread
Still waiting as well.
Looking forward for solution, we have also WIMOTION sensors in the market with sample android apk but I'm not a developser so, put things together is hard for me !
I think the hard job is try to mock the sensors in Android AS IF external accelerometer was factory embeeded (allowing apps to recognize it)
Nothing new about this project / idea ???

Once you've figured out how to modify the kernel, you should be good to go!
Another option could be sensor to serial over USB, via a compatible adapter, write an app and there you go. Of course it won't be standard Android though.
Drivers are here
https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v4.14.133/source/drivers/iio/imu/st_lsm6dsx
The problem is adding them to kernel !
You dont need to add them to the kernel. You will need to implement an Android HAL that can read the values of these sensors. Its not a trivial task but also not very hard if you have access to the source code
