Secure Folder app permissions - Samsung Galaxy A3, A5, A7 (2017) Questions & Answe

Hi. I have an A3 2017 (Oreo) and my problem is that there is no way to allow or deny app permissions in the Secure Folder. Basically every app has all its permissions enabled and greyed out, giving you no option to change the current status.
Also under each permission says "enforced by policy".
Is this how secure folder is supposed to work? And is there any way around it?
Thanks.

Anyone? Any ideas about this?

I am having the same problem.

I am having the same problem and there is no any documentation about it in Samsung site

Same problem here. After deleting the secure folder and setting up a new one, the app permission management works for a couple of days. But then somehow stops working (update? restart?) and the "enforced by policy" error comes up.
Any solutions?

Xposed for A7 2016

Hello Sirs
I want to install xposed on my (SM-A710FD) phone which is 5.1.1 android
This is a 2017 series.
For what do you need Xposed? I have tried it on my tablet and there is little to no use for Xposed. Maybe I change my mind if you tell me some good modules.

The problem with Xprivacy is that it is quite hard to understand. There are no community driven settings like in uBlock Origin (adblocker for pc). Nor there are options for temporary allowance. Besides, Android 6 already has permissions per app.

What is there to understand? My 13 year old nephew managed to set it up.
Android 6 does not offer this many options. Can you stop an app getting your IMEI or Phone serial details? Why does an app need your IMEI?
It comes with default settings such as location (Christmas island) IMEI 00000000 etc.
1-Install the correct version of Xposed for your device.
2-Install Xprivacy app.
3-Launch, allow Root, click on Template and set each permission request to block.
4-Reboot phone, launch Xprivacy, see if template has been applied.
5-Install an app or game. You'll get notification from Xprivacy with template applied.
6-Allow the permissions that the app needs. Eg Firefox browser needs Internet,Network,IPC,System allowed to work.
For games I don't allow any permissions and it still works.
If you need to allow temporary permissions just launch Xprivacy and turn it off for that app.

Blocking everything isn't a solution as apps need for example the shell and filesystem to store setting files at first startup.
There are sub permissions which are quite unclear if you can disable them. Plus, after every app update the new nag screens come up and apps might not work anymore. You say Firefox needs ABC. But how to know what each app needs at bare minimum?

You are not blocking everything for ever.
The template is set to block all at first app install so that the app doesn't get access to sensitive information that it doesn't need. You can deny the sub permissions if you want but this can effect how the app behaves. You don't need to mess with the sub permissions.
At every app update Xprivacy will re apply the permissions that you've already set for that app. You don't need to re do it.
As to allowing Shell and system at first start up go back into Xprivacy and allow these permissions/ re launch app.
The ABC for Firefox was an example. Firefox is a web browser so obviously it needs data access. Root Explorer obviously needs Shell, and System and so on.It is easier then you think.
Once you have setup all the permissions for your apps and they are working Xprivacy has a function to save or export your setup. So that if you change ROM all you need to do is import it and it will do the rest.
If you read the link I included all the answers to your questions are there. Google is useful too.

android.process.media keeps stopping - so annoying

Dear all,
I have been using RMN5 for a while and this is the most f**cking annoying error in this phone (or MIUI's error - i got it in my LG F180L running MIUI7 a long time ago and it happened too)
Every time i connected the phone to PC, i got this problem, I've followed the tips on XDA about disable media storage and download (force stop only in RMN5) and reboot, ok it fixed for a while, but not for long, next time i connect, it happen AGAIN.
I'm so tired of this sh*t and want to get rid of it.
Please, somebody please show me the way.
Thank you
Don't disable those apps instead go to the app settings media storage and download and clear both cache and data, hopes this will solve the problem and move this post to question and answer thread. It belongs there.
you disabled critical system app and complained why you get error messages
This is the Android Media Scanner, looking for files to index on your storage.
Some options are:
Try creating a file called '.nomedia' in every folder, and the problem should dissapear. In that case you may have a corrupted file somewhere, so try to delete the .nomedia file in some of the suspected folders to see if the problem comes back (or google something like 'android.process.media .nomedia' for a better explanation or solution.
You can also enable debuggind (via developer options), to inspect the problem with adb logcat, or to install a logcat related app from Play Store, in case the dump that should appear at the time of the error contains some hint.

I'm having this issue after updating my Samsung GT-N8013 to lineageos 16.0. When you say to put a .nomedia file in every folder, do you litterally mean every single folder on both the tablet and sd card or a certain level of folder?

The .nomedia flag file will stop the scan in the directory it's placed and all of the directories contained in it.
I ended up reinstalling the the OS 16.0 rom for my Samsung N8013. It took a total of running the installation 3 times but it finally became stable.

Usable secure folder patch for DTC5?

As title, after upgrading to DTC5, all of the previous fix no longer works.
For those one figured out how to fix secure folder in DTC5, would you please share?
Or is there anyway to enable work profile on rooted stock Rom?
Currently struggling to find a working method to have apps like secure folder, island, or shelter working.
Have tried multiuser, but has to switch whenever needs to launch the copy of my apps, which sucks.
Thanks

[Privacy] Modifying Permissions for System Apps

Hi there,
For the benefit of increased privacy, how can I modify the permissions (such as microphone, camera, body sensor access) for system apps, like System UI or Accessibility etc?
I wish to have access to such permissions to choose what I feel is required/necessary.
My phone (G985F) is rooted with Magisk and I have already removed/frozen a bunch of bloatware but like I mentioned would like to revoke some permissions for 'system apps'.
Please can someone assist me or point me in the right direction, thanks heaps.
Andy.

Thanks for your reply. I think you may have misunderstood what I'm asking here, while what you've shared is relating to modifying app permissions installed on the phone, it does not allow modification of 'system app' permissions as I stated I'm trying to do in my post. Currently, upon attempting to do this for say System UI (a system app/service) for example - I am unable to revoke microphone permissions due to it being greyed out and saying "Device needs this permission to operate".

Its probably because those permissions are a must for the phone to operate. Somethings are just needed to make a device work.

Not exactly what you want but Package Disabler Pro can disable system apps completely without root, I tried disabling certain permissions but couldn't find a way, just to disable it completely

Theres also CCSWE app manager which also has the ability to disable system apps and i think individual processes within the app, if you know exactly what your looking for.

Question How can I disable grayed out permissions on some of the installed and system apps?

Recently I got this new phone and I very stupidly updated to android 12 to check it out, expecting that I can revert back to android 11 with a simple factory reset (why doesn't it revert to factory settings, but instead stays on the update wtf???). That's an annoyance and I could live with it if it weren't for the grayed out permissions on some apps which I can't turn off. I don't remember all the apps / system apps that have this, but the "Settings" app is one of them and also if you go to the file manager, there will be apps which are normally not found in the standard app viewer and one example that has grayed out permissions is an app that has "12" as an icon and might be the theme for android 12 or something related to it. How do I completely turn off location for both of these for example? Is that even possible? Would I have this same problem of grayed out permissions even if I had stayed on android 11? Please someone help me, thank you.

Hello,
It was never possible to restore to an older version of Android by factory resetting the device. Factory reset only removes user data. Doesn't remove the OS, doesn't downgrade it.
I haven't tested this particular thing, but it's very likely that Android 11 might have had the same permissions. And yes, some of the permissions can't be changed, since they are used by the system.
However, at least for what Location is concerned, you should be able to simply disable Location access altogether. Not sure if those system apps can still access your Location even when turned off, but that's another story.
Hope the answer above help you at least a little bit.
