[Q] Clockworkmod recovery

Hey guys, this is a really simple question, but was not able to find a simple answer for this.
I'm running stock rooted and am thinking about trying a new ROM, the question is:
1) when I do a backup of current ROM through clockworkmod recovery, does this back up all my apps? or do I need to use mybackup pro or titanium to backup my apps as well as the clockwork backup?
2) if I decide that I do not like the new ROM, can I just go restore from clockworkmod and recover my old ROM (stock) or will I need to flash the RUU file to get back to stock?
Sorry for the noob type questions, just wanna make sure I am squared away to get into these custom ROMs

1) Your apps are backuped, it creates an exact image of your phone at that point. If you do a full wipe then thats when Titanium backup comes in handy.
2) Restoring a nand backup as long is the stock rom backup you want will get you back up and running.
You will need Titanium backup or mybackup if ur gonna flash a new ROM. The nandroid will backup apps, but only useful when you restore back to that nandroid. To restore ur apps after flashing a new ROM, you will need titanium.
Hey... I think this thing makes phone calls too!

[Q] Restore Galaxy S Touchwiz

Accidentally `rm`ed instead of `mv`ed /system/app/Touch* so now I have no launcher. I can't get a usb debugging connection when it's loaded, and I don't have root access in the recovery shell. Any help on restoring the launcher?
Your phone is rooted?
You can use Root Explorer to copy the TW launcher apk to /system/app.
Oh wait, you have no launcher at all, and thus can't get to the settings menu to enable USB debugging? Or to any of your apps...
Can you reboot to recovery? I could make an update.zip that you can flash from Clockwork Recovery that would put your launcher back. Quickest way to restore a launcher if you don't have a recent nandroid backup.

I can get to recovery. What all is involved in making this update.zip?

[Q] Backup Apps and settings before root?

I have a HTC DHD and have decided that I want a custom ROM. Is there a way to backup my apps and app settings before I do so? So that I can restore them once the custom ROM is installed?
Also, is here a way to backup my branded ROM before I change it?
Thanks

Yes. I have been through this before :
1. Follow guides to permanently root and radio s-off first. Install Clockworkmod.
2. Back up app: Install backup program. I use Titanium Backup and backed up all installed apps and settings. They are saved for later restoration.
Check up http://matrixrewriter.com/wiki/tiki-index.php?page=TB+-+HOWTOs for official steps.
3. Now get into your CWM Recovery. Make a back up of your stock rom. I still do keep an back up copy of my official stock ROM.
4. Flash the rom of your choice. Flash the radio if necessary.
5. Boot into new rom. Install Titanium Backup if there isn't. Restore your system settings and user apps like in the above link.
6. Become a flash mania. Start your life of flashing tons of different roms...
These are rough steps. You may experience some hiccups during the last step. Usually can be solved by reinstalling from the Market (instead of restoring from backup) and restoring settings only. That's the fun side of this whole stuff.
