Bricked after trying to lock bootloader - Moto Z2 Play Questions & Answers

Hello Guys, after unlocking the bootloader and using custom ROMs for some time, i tryed to lock the bootloader again and all gone wrong.
All i can reach is fastboot.
Any tentative of flashing return a validation error.

You need right firmware to lock, must be the signed one.
You need the October one. Locking is tricky, the only way I could do it was as I described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2...igned-boot-t3749041/post78082103#post78082103

That could be the problem, but im not that interessed in locking anymore, just to make it work again.
Anyway, i will look for the firmware and give it a go.
Edit:
After trying ALBUS_OPSS27.76-12-25-11_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC firmware, i've seen in bootloader logs the message "image is too large" in pink letters.

I have some suggestions.
Flash 7.1 first. Then upgrade to 8.0
The error you are getting sounds like you are flashing the wrong firmware. I've seen this same size error once, and that was the issue for me.
Hold tight, I'll put you together a care package together.

I am not sure is this is he correct place to post the question, but I kinda helpless after searching for the answer for my question and not finding it...can anyone please tell me if moto z2 play will have any simultaneous dual 4g support (for example using 2 JIO sim) in any on the custom Roms? does this facility needs any builtin hardware or it just the software that can enable the facility? Any heads up will be appreciated..

After it reboots, if it's still giving you problems , here is what I did.
I re-entered the ADB fastboot menu and on the side, using the volume keys , I selected "FACTORY" and then clicked the power button. I know sounds stupid, but that got my phone to boot to the OS.

It fails at flashing fastboot, but it looks to have stopped without progressing further? Try making a separate BAT file and adding:
Note: I haven't tested this for downgrading, only for resetting.

Then run the BAT file. Lenovo themselves have likely disabled fastboot flashing and re-locking.

At the moment I can not recommend to downgrade an unlocked P2 with Android 7. Found your Post and created a Batch file. It failes in createing and ereasing some steps. But the phone is starting with Android 6, now. I'll investigate the modem functions within the next days and post the results. Maybe QPST-Images are required for correct downgrading.

I have soft brick my modem after I erased the modem partitions.
Since you can't flash NON-HLOS.bin after unlocking the bootloader, it's dangerous to downgrade.
But I can confirm (I did it many times before unlocking the bootloader and after) that you can downgrade for 7 to 6. The system is working fine and you can still install the OTA.
If you find a solution for the modem part, please post the solution

Thanks but I already did that.
After doing it, the sim card was successfully detected but after a few second the signal is lost (like I'm in a no signal zone) and I can't connect to my operator's access point.
I maybe have a wrong baseband driver or something like that, I'm not sure.

can you please confirm that before flashing your phone was bootloader unlocked or locked ! and how you sure that the soft bricking of your modem occured only for erasing the modem partitions ? do you think, it's completely safe to downgrade from stock nougat to stock marshmallow for an locked bootloader ??

I can confirm after downgrading an unlocked but not modified and not rooted Stock P2 with the instructions from Post #2 that the modem is NOT working. This is not supprising as the modem partion is write protected for unlocked bootloaders and contains the updated Nougat code. But I could NOT fix it through an update from Android 6 back to Android 7. The modem is still not working. No SIM Card is recognized. I did a factory reset but that didn't help.

@mishua0: I agree with Kontex -> if your bootloader is locked there is no real risk at downgrading or upgrading through fastboot (I did it 2 or 3 time without any problem).

It didn't fix your problem so it won't fix mine. Let's face the ugly fact. The modem code is broken somehow and it is not possible to fix it without a working QPST-File. I read all your posts. You tried a lot of things.
I'll send my phone back to the seller and hope he will replace it with a new one that has an Android 6 Firmware. Than I do not upgrade it and I can use Xposed again. So far I'm happy with my Lenovo ZUK Z1 and don't need the Lenovo P2 immediatly.

So ? A few post is hardly spam on this small P2 forum...
And if I find a solution, I'll follow by the rules and create a specific topic for this specific problem.
By the way, regarding your problem: I myself didn't fully restored the modem part yet, but it seems that Bardales did.

I'm so pleased to see your reply. I want to downgrade my bootloader locked Lenovo P2 from Stock Nougat to Stock Marshmallow. Actually I applied to unlock already, but I have 2 more days to finish my 14 days period. So, I think even after my 14 days period, if I don't unlock the OEM through fastboot mode, my bootloader would still be locked. Am I right ? @mishua You should be able to use the flash.bat because your phone is locked. And you shouldn't type the commands one by one as you don't know what you are doing. Try the batch file first. As Itchi wrote if you like to play with different firmware images you can go forth and back anyway. Check the guide. The Bootloader is locked as long as you don't unlock it. It does not happen automatically after 14 days. After 14 days you have to enter the unlock menue again while being connected to the lenovo server. If you don't do this your phone is locked past this 14 days.

edit: I know I talking to myself. Anyway "Device Rescue" is not available for the P2 at the moment. Downloads only exist for other models like the P1.

[Q] How do I reinstall or re-flash partitions on my XT1922-3

Hi there,
My XT1922-3 had a problem on stock ROM whereby the cell radio wasn't working, (no signal, so couldn't make calls or send SMS texts) so I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP and installed a custom firmware (unfortunately I'm not sure which one now) and it all worked fine (I wish I'd left it like that) but I wanted it back to stock ROM to sell on. So I followed a YouTube guide called 'Moto G6/G6+/G6 Play Unroot | Unbrick |Flash Stock Firmware' which got the stock ROM back, but the no signal issues also returned.
I have since flashed another custom ROM but now I seem to have lost the partitions, as I get "(bootloader) is-logical:bootloader: not found" and the same for other partitions when flashing via fastboot.
I've managed to get TWRP back into the recovery partition, so presumably that is still there but it seems to be missing some options and is not able to mount partitions.
If anyone has a link to the correct and latest stock firmware ROM or a way of re-creating the partitions I would grateful, or if there is a custom kernel or ROM that I can use to get it working again. I am in the United Kingdom and I think some of the ROMs don't seem to be for the UK.

If it's Aljeter retail, use Aljeter retail firmware. It's easiest to flash with RSDlite. You can use fastboot if you like. Just open the flashfile XML and copy the commands from it for fastboot.

If you flashed the boot.img and recovery.img from the stock firmware, you shouldn't be rooted anymore. I wouldn't lock the bootloader. It's not a big deal and can cause problems if a flash goes bad.

I just downloaded the following RETAIL ROM from mirrors . lolinet . com /firmware/moto/aljeter/official/ (remove the spaces, as I can't post links yet)
ALJETER_RETAIL_9.0_PPPS29.55-35-1_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml
and used the following fastboot commands, one at a time.

Don't try to lock the bootloader. Open the flashfile XML in the zip. The commands are there. Or use Moto smart assistant to rescue.

Can you post the output you get from fastboot getvar all
I don't know if that will help folk work out a fix for you but I reckon it'll be worth seeing if it works.

I'm almost positive that you're flashing the wrong firmware. As far as I know, no firmware for the G6 Play has 7 sparse chunk files. I could be wrong, but I had to a lot of digging through aljeter and Jeter firmware to get twrp working, and at best I saw 5 sparse chunks in every firmware that I handled. Can you tell me the name of the firmware zip you're trying to flash, or point me to it?

My friend also warned about this but I used the .bat file
so that it has until the 7, the last rom that ultilive was the
XT1922-5_ALJETER_9.0_PPPS29.55-25-4_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-XT1922-5-BRAZIL-MANAUS_CFC.xml

Download minimal adb & fastboot if you don't have it already. Here's a link to the thread. I use the portable version. Then check the firmware you have right now. Make sure the sparse chunks go from 0-4. There should be 5 total. If there are less, or more sparse chunks than that, redownload your firmware from here. Then follow these steps.
1. Unzip the firmware into the same folder as minimal adb & fastboot.
2. Right click the cmd-here.exe shortcut inside the folder and run it as administrator.
3. Open the flashfile.xml with a text editor.
4. Run the following commands in order.
fastboot oem fb_mode_set
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase DDR
fastboot oem fb_mode_clear
5. Use your volume buttons, select reboot bootloader and hit the power button. You should loop back into fastboot.
6. Run the command; fastboot oem fb_mode_set
7. Read the flash file, then flash everything in it manually, and in order. If something refuses to flash, skip it and go to the next item in line. Do NOT use a bat file for ANY of this!
8. Once finished, issue the command fastboot oem fb_mode_clear then fastboot reboot and your device should start working again.
If there are any errors please let me know exactly what they say.

I hate to say it, but that's very bad. Unless you have JTAG equipment on hand, you won't be able to fix this device without sending it Motorola. Your emmc is locked to read only. You're effectively bricked.

Don't use .bat to flash. Type the commands manually. They are in the flashfile.xml in the firmware.

Trying to unbrick my XT1710-07. Any hope for me?

Today I was using my stock (bootloader locked, no twrp) XT1710-07 and it suddenly froze. I could reboot once, past the PIN screen ok, and then it rebooted and never got out of the Moto Logo screen.
So I entered fastboot, tried to get to Recover mode, but I was getting an error like 'Linux failed to boot', instructing to get Software Repair Assistant.
So I downloaded it, it downloaded the following firmware: ALBUS_PPS29.133_30_cid50_subsidy_DEFAULT_regulatory_DEFAULT_CFC_SVC.
When I hit Rescue, it gets to 47% and then I get the error: "Fastboot Flash failed. Please try again."
Then I started digging all threads here that could help me revive my phone.
Once I got to this, I ran the bat file inside LMSA downloaded rom folder and got this:

No luck: oem fb_mode set and clear don't work, and flashing gpt doesn't work as well.
Now, when I power on the phone, it falls back to fastboot screen with:

Today I was using my stock (bootloader locked, no twrp) XT1710-07 and it suddenly froze. I could reboot once, past the PIN screen ok, and then it rebooted and never got out of the Moto Logo screen.
So I entered fastboot, tried to get to Recover mode, but I was getting an error like 'Linux failed to boot', instructing to get Software Repair Assistant.
So I downloaded it, it downloaded the following firmware: ALBUS_PPS29.133_30_cid50_subsidy_DEFAULT_regulatory_DEFAULT_CFC_SVC.
When I hit Rescue, it gets to 47% and then I get the error: "Fastboot Flash failed. Please try again."
Then I started digging all threads here that could help me revive my phone.

No luck: oem fb_mode set and clear don't work, and flashing gpt doesn't work as well.

Have you tried getting your phone into QCOM or 9008 mode? Look up a couple of tutorials, if you can then i think i can help

It's not that, so much that this issue is kind of non-recoverable, and can be caused by a myriad of things, from dead emmc, to bad flashes, to the security chip on the soc randomly dying

QCOM or 9008 mode can only be accesed that way if you have working system; look up any of the other way

I'm trying everything I find to make it enter Qcom mode, no success for now.
I saw your other post with qcom mode directions, but phonlab lessons are paid, and too expensive for me (in dollars). I wonder what other information those lessons contain besides installing all the right Qualcomm USB drivers.
I tried too this other guy idea to force it in QCOM mode by shorting USB cable D+ to GND, but it didn't work too.
I wonder if is there any way to do it without an Octoplus (or another) box.

Moto G5 Plus totally dead, stuck on AP Fastboot Flash Mode (Secure)

Plz help my Moto G5 Plus xt686 is totally dead. I tried flashing stock rom via fastboot. But it's not working, phone still in fastboot stuck condition. Plz help my Moto G5 Plus xt686 is totally dead. I tried flashing stock rom via fastboot. But it's not working, phone still in fastboot stuck condition. Also tried RSD lite tool and Lenovo repair assistant both are not reading my device. Tried unlocking bootloader but getting read datablock error. Tried flashing naugat and oreo roms. Plz spare your valuable time to help me out. Regards.

Did you Try flashing latest stock firmware, and did bootloader and gpt got flashed successful?

You flashed stock Oreo using fastboot commands or using a zip file and TWRP recovery? Was the bootloader unlocked before flashing? You never want to downgrade the firmware for risk of bricking due to the bootloader version. From the picture it looks like you have the Oreo bootloader.
Just guessing, but if trying to unlock the bootloader then you also need access to Motorola's website...at least that's what this web article says: https://devsjournal.com/moto-g5-plus-unlocking-the-bootloader.html

Mostly you device gpt table got corrupted or your emmc storage is failing. I suggest you to flash gpt table of different firmware ,Maybe it will help.

i never tried any custom ro on this mobile. it was neither unlocked. it automatically got in this condition. i didn't done anything with it.

Here's what I recommend. Download the official Motorola G5 Plus (Potter) Oreo firmware, POTTER_RETAIL_8.1.0_OPSS28.85-17-6_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip from whatever site you can find it (https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/potter/official/RETAIL/). Extract the zip file in the same folder as fastboot.exe.
With the phone in fastboot mode execute each of the following commands one at a time:

If the phone reboots and starts up then great. After it starts go to Settings and enable Developer Options. In Developer Options enable ADB and OEM Unlock.
If the phone doesn't boot properly then sorry. You will have tried to install the official retail version.

Confirm the ROM you tried to install is the correct one for your phone:
Moto G5 Plus = potter
Moto G5 = cedric
Also, the files to be flashed should be in the same folder as the fastboot.exe files.
There are multiple problems with the phones. One is it won't accept a fastboot flash of factory firmware. Second problem might show up after/if the phone reboots and that is the infamous IMEI = 0.
The OP's getvar all command didn't reveal the (bootloader) ro.build.fingerprint information which would tell us the firmware version installed. However, the bootloader number appears to be the current Oreo version. That was one reason for flashing the latest version of the Oreo firmware.
The only other thing to try would be to download the latest version of TWRP into the same folder as fastboot.exe and try:
fastboot boot twrp.img (where twrp.img is the filename of the latest twrp)
If the phone boots into twrp then download the latest twrp flashable Oreo and copy and paste to the phone. Try and Install it. Big longshot because the bootloader is probably locked..

What you have to do is
1. connect your phone to your pc with with a pc or laptop.
L2. Download Lenovo Moto Smart Assistant lll from the Official website. Just search on google.
3. Make sure you install it on the C: Drive only, with administrative rights.
4. Run it, it will ask for your Lenovo login id. Now you need to go to Lenovos website from the browser, register a new one.
And after 5-10 mins login with the same id.
5. Well, if you are unable to login due to un responsive page, use a vpn .
6. After you login go for "Rescue".
7. Choose the option which says, Phone not able to boot or start.
8. It would automatically detect your device if it's connected to a pc with a cable and is in fastboot mode.
9. It fails to detect sometimes, so you can try manually enter your device.
10.Now it would download the latest stock rom, there would be a small download text which is hyperlinked.
11. Once completed it might ask to "Rescue".
It will start working, it might look like it's stuck, but it not, it can take from 5 mins to 30 mins or even more.
12. After the process is complete, just boot your phone normally, or it might boot automatically.
13. Enjoy.

This didn't work. Smart Assistant couldn't detect the device I am trying to Rescue. Can you suggest something else?
