For whatever reason, I can't get my photos to display on my Pixel Stand when docking my phone (it only shows the current time). I have that option switched to on--and selected the albums I want to show--in the stand's settings. Have I missed a step?

It takes a very brightly lit room to trigger the photos album feature. I was wondering why mine wasn't working in my bedroom until I opened the window during the day. It will not work at night in my bedroom with my dull lighting
Ahhh! I didn't think of it from the brightness of the room aspect. Thank you!

Hi all
Can anyone else confirm if they have this "feature"
In Google Photos (not the old? google+ photos or whatever it was), when flicking to a photo so swiping to next photo, a split second after the photo is on screen it then changes colour tone or whatever.
There seems to be an auto enhance feature and its doing my head in.
No option anywhere to seemingly turn that off!
Hopefully I have not just made anyone aware of it which will now drive them insane
If others can confirm / deny and share my hate for this "feature" then maybe we can present our case to Google to at least allow that to be turned off.
Yeah man I've noticed that before but never thought much of it. There is definitely a little bit of a shift shortly after loading a new pic.
Am I just so used to Moto phones that I didn't realize that screens down light up when picked up? Laying in bed reaching over to turn my phone to me I have to push the power button? Am I missing a setting? I'm so used to it lighting up to show me time and notifications just tilting it.
sadly, this phone doesnt have this feature

Nope it's not one of the three options there. I found a app called Gravity Screen and once you select the right options it works pretty great. Took me a second to figure out how to get it not to block unlocking with my finger. Not great I need a secondary app but at least it feels right again.

Turn on ambient display: A feature of Android Wear and Motorola devices, it's now on Android Nougat by default. Head into Settings > Display and you'll be able to glance at monochrome notifications.
Seems they have also changed how this works, so your current solution may be better.
Apparently it (ambient display) now only illuminates the screen when a notification comes in, not again when you lift.
Can't believe this phone does not come with such a simple yet very convenient feature

I miss it as well, but I guess the Pixels should be getting a tap to wake update soon, that will help some.
Whoa, if so that's amazing. How sure are we? What's the source?
Android Auto has come a long way especially now that it has OK Google voice commands in it. Before I didn't like it because when a message popped up, I'd still have to touch the notification in order to have the message read out. Now I can "OK Google" and say "read my messages" and it will read them out loud.
My biggest worry is burn in. That navigation bar at the bottom of Android Auto doesn't change at all. Has anyone had any issues with Android Auto causing burn in on their screen? I used to use drivemode which ran int he background but it gets finicky at times especially if Google has update their Google search app.
I tried to turn on screensaver and while it comes on when android auto is activated, I can't see any notifications while the screensaver is on.
Any advice?

I use Android Auto 45m+ 2x/day 5days/week for the last 2 months on my Pixel and haven't noticed any hint of burn in. Mine is typically left on the map view, but I do switch to the audio view occasionally. I know that's only one data point, so take that for what it's worth.

That's more than I use it so that's a good sign. Thanks for the input.

You should be fine honestly. I've used mine for 7 hours straight in our last road trip to visit family couple weekends ago. Had it on high brightness because the dang rental want tinted.

FWIW I've noticed burn-in on my Note 4. I've been driving for around 2 hours a day for the last few months, and have it on map view. There's a definitely yellowing where the map sits with noticeable light patches where the button bar is at the bottom, and the info panel at the top.
you'll get burn in. it's amoled. i've come to terms with it for the simple reason that i probably won't have the phone for more than a year or 2, so who cares
I use a app called "Navbar Apps" by damian in the play store. it changes the nav bar colors based on the app in the foreground. this keeps the black away, and gives my pixel a nice look.
I have serious burn in on the S7 Edge, can see the bar at the bottom, the arrow button for getting to maps and the search button on the top right from the maps interface (round circle with a magnifying glass in).
Didn't notice until yesterday. Now can't stop seeing it. Have used Android Auto for about 4 months 60 mins a day at least split into two commutes.
Looks like my next phone will be IPS LCD
You will get burn in. Thats just how amoled works.

Has anyone been able to get "now playing" songs from spotify or google music to show on the always on display?

now playing is for ambient music that is being played, not music played on the device.

Yea....sorry, not what I meant. On "other" phones, your items playing would appear on the always on display. That seems like something that should be on by default if you are using AOD- on any phone.

you are confusing me even further!
the pixel 2's have a feature called now playing, which will show the title/artist of music that it hears (not being played by that pixel) and is in its database.
this is exclusive to the pixel 2's as far as I know, its not on any other phone.
the music has to be coming from any other device, EXCEPT the pixel phone itself.

YES- I know exactly what that is. I'm not talking about that.
I'm talking about the phone LITERALLY showing what is playing. (Or "now" playing on the phone lol) For example- on my 'old' S7

Since I turned it on, it's been working great for me. No issue
As far as I know. AOD does not have this ability on the Pixel. Stock wise at least. AOD is only icons.
Lockscreen however, will throw a notification showing what is being played. Google's AOD is ver bare bones basic compared to other OEMs.
I just double tap the screen and look at the Spotify notification
Anyone have any success with this? Seems like an oversight to me, the lockscreen is null and void now, the always on IS the lockscreen. I should be able to choose what's 'always on'
heck I can't even get Google Play Music to show up on my lock screen, let along my AOD. I would be perfectly happy if it showed up on my lockscreen so I could control music while I am driving without having to unlock the phone. And yes, my app notification settings for Google Play Music are turned on.
There's a root app for that.
It was even featured on XDA main page...

But to be fair, Google ****ed that one up, really.
Found
I managed to have Spotify "now playing" appear just by having lock screen notifications on. It does not give you a full screen view of Spotify, but it still appears as a bar that lets you change songs and shows the title. Hope this helps

Where did you turn on lock screen notifications for Spotify?
Edit: I know what you mean. Lockscreen, not AOD (derp). I believe the people on this thread are all asking for always on display music controls. Like Samsung has on theirs.
Gotcha. The AOD isn't what I was referring to. All I have is some sort of playback/visibility options on the lock screen when the app is running; it makes it convenient when driving or during workouts to quickly switch songs. Somebody did mention an AOD app above if the basic lock screen visibility isn't enough for everyone.

wow didnt expect this to work but it does and it even has a double tap to open spotify from AOD
I think I have enabled this feature in the settings but the screen still goes black after a few seconds. Please advise.
Display>Advanced>Ambient Display
Yes, i enabled it there
since we are on the subject of displays, how do you get the pics to stop scrolling on the always on display when you are charging from the pixel stand?
I don't know if restarting my phone or the screen protector was interfering with the sensor but I removed it and it seems to work now.
is there no way to add an image to the ambient display or any other customization?
settings have a search function just type anything in there that you may want to change or generic phrase to narrow it down like screen will give you all the screen options only.
