samsung s9 exynos - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

Hi. I want to buy s9 (exynos version). My question is: what about battery life? When samsung releases this phone in internet people talked about a huge stand by drain. It is fixed now with android pie?

It depends on your usage...
My day starts at 6:30 o'clock (100%) until 1:50-2:00 my battery is 45-55 percent with 1:30 SOT
My usage is simple (Facebook messenger , YouTube, Netflix ,insta twitter etc)
My maximum Sot time is 4:26 hrs from 100% until 1%
(Only twice....most of the time my sot is about 2:50 )
I was expecting more for 700€ phone
My friend has an iPhone 8 and he is getting 6-7sot time with 4g youtube and games
That sot of time i got while testing the redmi 5 plus
I think you should buy the OnePlus 6t instead

I think the battery life with wifi is just OK (of course not for a 700$ starting price...) But it's terrible with 4G, very bad for the price. Fast charging made me less disappointed though.
But my friend has also the exynos galaxy S9 and she get more than one day (complete 24 hours) with more than 6 hours of SOT.
I think the battery life isn't the only aspect you should look for before buying a phone. The S9 is a very good phone in my opinion

how is your battery holding off?

Hi, i have been noticing that my battery its just getting me through the day with 4hs SOT in 14 or 15 hs of use. I have tried many roms and kernels and there is no difference. My phone its not too old (1 year and a half) so i wanted to ask you how was your battery doing. And if mines dying. (Sorry for poor english)
lineage os 15.1
I get from 4.5-6h of SOT depends on how heavy or how many pics I abuse the phone
stock pie, I barely get 2.5h of SOT and if I go heavy use on it, I barely crack 2h
18 months is more than average use, and that usage is normal, and mine is exactly like yours by the way, and the device is of same age too LoL. I am gonna keep using it like this and when SoT drops below 3 hour mark might consider replacing the battery. You can already consider changing the battery anyway.
PS: Tip, stop using those stupid Adaptive ****s Pie brought, both the battery and brightness thingy, those do nothing except drain more.

What about like stock pie with a custom kernel?
Stock Pie here, latest security, just rooted with TWRP.
Get about 2.5 with mixed media and gaming and little gaming I can get about 3.5 hours SOT. Just got the phone about two weeks ago, coming from a 6P. Accubattery shows 71 battery health.
It's not too bad but not that great either. Personally it gets me through work and back home and it charges very fast using the 6P charger even when gaming.
I wish the battery was better, other than that I LOVE my Pixel XL!
Stock Pie, not touched, not modified, not rooted. Perfectly happy with battery life so far, up to 8 h. SOT, up to 1 day of moderate usage.

Can you share some more details regarding what apps you have used, was it on WiFi full time and the brightness of the display?

8h SOT seems pretty crazy for a 2 year old device but I can see it. Mine usually gets upwards of 5-6 depending on what games I'm playing on it etc. Mind you I'm rooted with a custom kernel installed. Either way I am still very much impressed with the Pixels battery life.

Well, in my case is totally possible as the one in my hands is only two months old

Sorry to say, but are you sure you didn't charge your phone to 90 percent and unplug it a few times? That doesn't reset SOT.
Hard to believe that my phone is still bate minimun, stock Pie and can barely squeeze 3.5 hours SOT out of it at 72 percent battery health.
There are legit nothing keeping my phone awake either. I use gsam and BetterBatteryStats.
There is no way you're getting 8 hours SOT on a two year old devices, when even the Note 9 isn't getting anywhere near that.
As I have mentioned before, the one in my hands is brand new, born from Pie. So I am holding barely 2 months old device, far away from two years and it easily last from morning till next morning. 8 hours of SOT is possible depending on usage, double checked. Even GSM arena test says it's holding 11 hours of video playback. Moderate usage, dark themes in every possible app, some YouTube, Facebook, Google Play Music, browsing, on WiFi almost 24 /7, up to 30 min calling per day. But no gaming at all.
My first screen shot may be a bit confusing one as I unplugged my device from charger while taking it and posting. 5 h SOT, half juice left, but it will go a bit faster now, never exceed 8 hours here. If you are using if for processor intensive task I agree 4-5 hours will be most what you'll get.
Stats at this moment.
How do you guys get such crazy battery life?! I'm lucky to scrape in an hour of screen on time! And that's just using it to look at Facebook and Snapchat here and there.
AccuBattery Pro stats
Custom pie rom here. I usually average about 5 hrs sot. Sometimes if im just texting and light browsing I'll get to 3 hrs at 50% but no matter what else i do it magically ends at about 5 hrs even when Im on track for 6. Now if I start using snapchat, youtube, camera the battery drops like a rock and I'll show only 3.5 maybe 4 hours. this is with LTE, not much wifi, but that doesnt seem to alter the outcome much one way or another.
Oh and share, Im getting 1 less with pie compared to oreo. Someone in another thread tried to tell me it was just me and my phone but looks like thread everywhere show pie is a battery bogger.
What's a good app to measure battery health

hi I'm actually xda passive user from 2011, since then I always using sony devices (xperia arc, xperia SP, xperia Z2 xperia XA2 Ultra, XZ Premium) but this is my first time to have an account and be active user. My pixel XL using custom pie rom (liquid remix) and kingkernel by KingBri, Blu_Schedutil gov can least up to 4.5-5hours SOT in 30% LTE and 70% wifi moderate use (WA,IG,Youtube,Chrome) but it can drop to 3-4hours SoT when I'm gaming PUBGM for total 1hour. I think thats good remind I bought second hand Pixel XL in Indonesia just about less than 2 weeks ago. sorry no screenshot because I forgot to capture it when still in liwuid remix and now I'm in BootLeggerROM 3.5 Pie and wanna test the differences. Thank you :good::good:

Stock Pie I get maybe 3 hours SOT without any gaming... 70 percent battery health.

SOT SOT SOT - Am I going insane, or am I not(e)?

Well at least I still have my (shady) sense of humor.
Hey guys.
2 weeks with the Note 10+, 256GB/12GB - Exynos. I keep seeing those wonderful SOT reports. 8 hours, 9 hours, 10 hours! I'm not even talking about those posting screenshots of 12-14 hours...
They all use WQHD. They all use Facebook. They even use youtube and netflix, on wi-fi and on mobile with more than 50% brightness, and they all get at worst 8 hours of Screen on time.
Little me, on the other hand, uses mostly whatsapp and text, reduce his brightness when possible, check for hungry apps all the time, yet even on Airplane mode, I barely get get to 0% with 5 hours of SOT.
What am I missing? What is the magic trick? Is it possible that I'm having some sort of a hardware failure? Bad luck?
Don't get me wrong, 5 hours of sot, compared to my dying and evil LG G4 is still amazing, but I just can't wrap my head around this difference between exactly the same devices, this huge difference.
Let there be light
and sot.
in the same boat as you are my friend.. note 10 + exynos is a ****ter..

Don't worry mate, those 8,9,10 hours of SOT are for people who watch lots of Videos like YouTube etc on their device and seldom use camera or do gaming on their Phone. SOT is very subjective and differs from person to person. I get 5 to 6 hours of SOT myself and is pretty happy with it
As others said it's hard to compare, for example weak cell/wifi signal can discharge battery pretty fast even with screen off. After saying that, you should disable everything you can that you don't use. Also, forget SOT, see how much your phone discharges overnight when it's not in use. For example charge before sleep to 100%, wake up and see what's the charge after 6-8 hours of standby. If it's less than 94-92 %, then you may have rogue app than runs down your battery and finding it and fixing it may help you a lot.

No, it is not
Anything over 5 hours is not that bad imo! However, i would expect that the note 10 plus should easily be hitting 6 hours minimum for the majority of users depending on there usage! I have literally only got my hands on my device today and after about 30 minutes use plus a software update it has dropped just 6%
my .2 cents , if your phone can last long enough for you to achieve what ever you want to do achieve in day and without you running behind a charger then you got yourself a keeper .
so don't worry about SOT , standby time ... use your phone to its fullest extent and enjoy it

I can totally agree with that, but there's this little voice in my head (Well, there are plenty, but that's not our current burning issue), that's just keep telling me that it doesn't make sense that when both people use the exact same device, with almost the exact same settings, the difference will be so big...

Living in a small country, compared to some people who use the same network in the same city (Maybe 5km from each other). Obviously, it's still not a purely scientific comparison, but it's something/
I used to wonder why there was a big difference between my battery performance and the ones I see on the net. Until I went to Taiwan for a vacation. My sucky battery phone then suddenly lasted the whole day. And that was with constant gps usage, constant checking, messaging, googling, etc.
I think the network strength and consistency is the biggest determinant of battery life given the same usage patterns. I live in the Philippines where the signal is not great which is probably why i get a lousy battery life compared to others.
However, the Note 10+ is giving me the best ever battery life ever. Out of all the phones I've owned, this is the only phone to actually surpass the 5 hour screen on time mark.

Signal strength affecting battery life makes sense, I have heard that before, but I have tried going a full day with just Wi-Fi, airport mode and no sim installed, and I got just the same results, so I guess that in my case, it's not related (sadly).
During my normal daily use, at the end of day I end with SOT of 3 to 5 hrs and 65-45% battery left. So absolutely I can get 8-10 hrs and this is with highest screen resolution, 50% brightness, GPS, BT, NFC, AOD and Edge screen on. You may have rogue apps running in the background and using your battery, did you check under settings/device care/ battery what is using your power, even if it's not very accurate, could give you some hints.
I check it constantly, no rogue apps whatsoever. I even did a factory reset, installing only whatsapp and disabling some Samsung apps, yet I still can't reach more than 5 hours of SOT, in almost "lab clean" conditions. Honestly, it's driving me mad.
How much do you loose overnight, when phone is not used at all. It should be no more than 0.5 to 1% per hr. Also force stop whatsup for few hours, maybe is searching and updating too often. I know what you mean, I had a phone couple yrs ago, wouldn't last whole day even if not used, drove me crazy until found out I changed some obscure setting in wifi before and forgot about it, once I reversed that setting phone went back to normal 0.5% per hour (it was discharging 10% per hour even not used before fix).

The Exynos SoC is garbage.
I learned the hard way with the Galaxy S10+. I thought to myself: "I'll buy the Exynos version so I can have an unlocked bootloader and enjoy custom ROM's and all the good stuff!" Little did I know, it's tough to enjoy the good stuff with such crap battery life.
Snapdragon users of the S10+ were reporting amazing battery life, meanwhile I couldn't get 4 hours of SoT with very careful use. I decided not to make the same error with the Note 10+ and ordered it with a Snapdragon SoC. I can happily report 7-8 hours of SoT and it was only getting better. I'm back on the OnePlus 7 Pro because I may return the Note 10+ for the Galaxy Fold, but I am leaning towards keeping it because the camera is so damned good.
Either way, never buy an Exynos phone. I enjoyed my S8+ with the Exynos chipset, but made a grave error with the S10+. Avoid at all costs if you can. If you need the radio bands that only the Exynos version has - look into getting a battery case because you'll need it.
Good luck Exynos users

Battery life

Hello
I just received my s20 plus for a week now and the battery life just like my old s7 edge after 4 years .. 3.5 to 4.5 SOT .
Is this normal ?
Same here mate, but this might improve with software updates.... At least I hope so

I hope.. i am afraid that the device has high power consumption design that with time should only get worse.
Give it 4 days to settle down. But yes it does drain faster than s10+. I knew that before pre-ordering but I thought Samsung would have figured something out...
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Guys this is completely normal for the phone to drain this fast, the phone is learning all your usage patterns in order to adjust the battery, use this time to go over the settings and tweak it to your liking. Also in the s10+ forum there is a battery optimisation post, go over there and apply it to your phone. Also maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.
Another thing is if you just restore the phone from a backup, this can bring corrupted settings that might be the culprits do factory reset and install all from zero without a backup.
''maybe you are using the ultra high definition and 120hz, maybe start with that to tweak it.''
thats physically IMPOSSIBLE now
I assume that you are using the exynos versions?

I had 7 1/2 sot yesterday SD 120hz
Second day, 120Hz is lovely but damn, I'm at home connected to my WiFi and it's draining like crazy, I'm worried how is it gonna look when I go outdoors to the college and will be using LTE. I'm on Exynos
I'm getting 2 hours of SOT through my day (7 am to 10 pm)
It's been a week that I've been using the Exynos version @ 120Hz RR. Battery life is way worse than S10+ on similar settings, tweaks and usage pattern.
I have charged my phone for the 2nd time and i get +- 5 hours of sot. I use everything on the phone, 120hz etc. The battery is still in the learning pattern phase...getting same battery life as I got on my S10+. I get roughly 24 hours with one charge and 6 hours is included when I sleep...The battery will get better. With my S10+ I got 24-36 hours of battery time with +- 3-5 hours sot...depending on usage...So if I can get the same or a bit better I would be very happy

I'm reading pretty bad about the Exynos Ultra as well in different but reliable sources. It's a pain to have a primary driver that dies mid-day on medium usage, that era of "unacceptable batterylife" on a flagship is believed to be over years back. I remember me behaving in an uncivilized? manner with the ones who tried to defend Exynos S9+ in every online forum when the culprit was the SoC itself to start with..
no wonder they didnt want to enable 120hz at 2K res - it would kill the battery in 1h probably

7.5hrs screen on time? How? First person I've heard that high.
I have the S20+ with the snapdragon processor. I think the battery life is very good, way better than my P4XL. I have 4 hours sot right now and have 60% left. I'm using 120 hz refresh rate. I believe it has gotten better over time, either from "settling" or updates, or maybe my imagination, haven't actually checked but some nights I go to bed after a day of light use and I'm shocked at the battery left. I unplug at 6am and at 10pm I've seen 80% battery left. That's minimal use like I said, not a typical day.
I think the battery life is quite alright, on par with my second phone (OnePlus 7 pro)
Exynos/12gb ram/120hz: stranded on 12%, so it would be around 7.5hours of SOT in full day.
Note: got the phone 3 days ago, it's still settling.View attachment 4977585

I have the snapdragon version and the battery on this thing is a BEAST!
Going on 34 hours off the charger and 7 hours of sot. I have done nothing to conserve battery. Loads of apps/accounts syncing. I am super impressed. Way better then my s10+ was.
120hz on, about mid-brightness, I'm lasting all day use with my personal usage habits. Battery life is as good if not a bit better than on my Note 10+. Snapdragon here on T-Mobile. Mostly WiFi. But it's only been about a week of use.
Can't complain at all.
ETA: Also BT always on using with my Frontier watch and Galaxy Buds on occasion.

Galaxy S20 battery: better than he S10e one?

Hi everyone!
I'm relatively new to this forum... I've lurked for a lot of time, and posted something years ago.
I'm back because I need to ask a question to people who already have the S20 in their hands: is the S20's battery better than the S10e's one?
Sorry, I know it's a pretty generic question... but I don't know very much about phone tech.
I'm talking about the Exynos variant, but even comments about the Snapdragon one would be appreciated!
Thank you for your attention, guys!

I'm not very interested in the 120 refresh rate to be honest, I'd be buying it for the camera and for the battery, so I would keep it at 60 hz.
I hope at 60 the battery's better than the S10e's.

I had the S10E. The battery for me has been better trying both 60 and 120 refresh rate. Phone off the charger at 5:30 am. Use all day. 45 min maps and music. Messaging all day. Social Media. 5-6 hours screen time. It is now 8:30 and I'm still at 30%. S10E I would have had to charge on my drive home from work.

That's great news, thanks!
My S10e has a really terrible battery, expecially after the Android 10 update... I have the Exynos version.
I usually start the day with 85% battery (I charge it during the evening while watching a movie, then I spend some time on social media before going to bed), and I arrive at 8:30 pm with less than 40% of battery. The strange thing is that I almost don't use the phone at all during the day. In the morning, I don't use it because I'm at work. In the afternoon, I'm at home, and I use the pc. So I use it very little, but for some reason the battery drains by itself like there's no tomorrow. I don't imagine what would happen if I had to use it during the day for some reason. That's why I wanted to switch to the S20.
Basically, at the moment I arrive at the end of the day with almost your same battery charge, but without having used the phone.
Just resurrecting this thread as I have the same question;
For the Exynos versions, how does the battery life on the S10e running Android 12 compare with the S20 running Android 13? (both at 60Hz screen)
GSMArena battery scores for endurance are 83h (S10e) and 71h (S20) if you use them both for 1 hour of calls, 1 hour of web and 1 hour of video but these scores were with the orignal shipped firmwares.
A lot of reviews of the S20 at the time said it had poor battery life so wondering if the 4,000mAh battery on the S20 is not much better than the 3,100mAh battery on the S10e because of Exynos not being optimised.
Not interested in Snapdragon comparisons as need a dual SIM and only the Exynos version is available here with proper dual SIM support (no eSIM rubbish).

Samsung s20+ 9860 (snapdragon) battery life - not impressed

Hi
Just wanted your opinion on the battery life of my s20+ which I'm not really impressed with.
Pretty low screen on time and already 1/3 down.
Using 96hz refresh rate.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
Your complaining about getting 1 day and 11 hours per charge??? Seriously???
you're fine, by this calculation by 0% you'll have over 6hrs of SOT which is good
