I have the fire stick, and can't get miracast to work. For those of you that do have it working, can you share your setup?
Devices I've tried:
Moto G with Lollipop
Surface Pro 3
HP Stream 7
Nokia Lumia 1520
For me it just sits on the waiting screen, sometimes my device name shows up saying mirroring will start soon but then it eventually times out and goes back to the settings screen.

I haven't been able to get Miracast on my Fire TV Stick to connect to me Windows 8.1 laptop.
Yes, I've gone to settings->display & sounds->enable display mirroring.
The first time I tried it on the laptop, it showed up in my devices (as a cell phone, which is strange), but when I "projected the screen", nothing ever showed up on the screen and it changed my laptop's resolution. I deleted it from devices and tried again and I can't get it to connect now. It just said said display mirroring is starting soon on the fire tv stick and just times out on the laptop.
On my LG G3, it didn't work last night, but when I tried it again just now, it worked.
Should the Fire TV Stick be able to Miracast with my laptop? My WLAN card does not support 5GHz. Is that the problem? The Fire TV Stick and LG G3 are connected via 5GHz, the laptop is connected to the same router via 2.4GHz.
I also can't get it to work with either my Lenovo X1 Carbon or, Samsung Series 7 tablet (Win 8.1 on both, miracast on the first, Intel WIDI on the second), the firetv is detected but it just won't connect. It worked with my Moto X, so I'm assuming it might just be working with android devices at this point which is a damn shame since this was one of the main selling points of the Fire TV stick for me.
Got it working on my Fire Stick and Nexus 5 running on custom kitkat rom. Had no luck on the first few try, my phone can see my fire stick and when it said it's connecting, the fire tv stick also said it's "preparing" to connect to my android device with my device name on the screen, but it would just disconnect without doing anything and go back to the setting screen after a few seconds.
Then i tried to turn off and turn on my wifi on my phone, tried again, fire tv now put the tv screen into a black & blank screen, but nothing more, it would disconnect again after a few seconds later. Tried a few times later on, same result, and no luck.
Again, i turn off my wifi on my phone and tried again and it now connected wonderfully! Tried youtube video on my phone and it's watchable on the tv, i'm going to try out a local video tomorrow and see how does it perform, so far i'm happy with browsing my photo in my phone alone without lags i found unacceptable on chromecast (but to be fair, it's not build for direct mirroring a device)
I have no luck in setting it up with my win 8.1 DELL e6540 laptop yet, i'm not sure if it even support miracast, would look into that also tomorrow. Right now i'm just happy it works on my phone and the quality is definitely acceptable.:good:
Hope it helps someone to setup your miracast!

3 of the 4 devices you try to cast are Windows, which you will expect problems since this is an Android system. The Moto G might have to deal with Lollipop and Google locking down Miracast for Chromecast only. I have a Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 on Lollipop and both can't cast to Amazon Fire TV. However, my Oneplus One and Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 running CM11 can cast both to Chromecast and Fire TV/Fire Stick. I think this is due to some kind of ROM blocking. Just wait till somebody find a way around it. Most devs are busy porting Lollipop to old Android devices.

That's probably the case, I just thought being Miracast certified meant it was actually supposed to work.
I've both a Note 3 and a LG G3 but can't miracast to my fire tv device from either. The phones can seethe fire tv and their name appears briefly on screen but then it simply fails. Everything is unrooted.

no luck on my nexus 5 with lollipop. stays on the connecting screen and then just stops trying to connect.
Works for about a minute and then stops
Stock Nexus 5 running Lollipop. Activated casting on the Fire Stick, and then on the N5. It seems like I had to get off of the cast screen on the N5 before it would start casting. I simply went back to the home screen. Tried to cast a you tube video which worked for a minute or so but then the TV screen went blank. Eventually the Fire Stick said the connection was dropped.
From what I've seen, it looks as though Google silently dropped Miracast support in Lollipop. The option to cast your screen from the OS appears to only work with the chromecast protocol now. They also broke car mode... Again. ?
I have it sort of working with Moto X KitKat - I can mirror the phone, but if I try to stream a Google Play movie it stutters and hangs. I could be my wifi signal - I have not tried it elsewhere in the house, but that is my next step.

I have the same symptoms - my LG G2 running Cyanogenmod 11 (4.4.4) can usually mirror fine to my Fire TV Stick, but sometimes it can't connect - a power cycle on the Fire Stick makes it work again.
However, my Windows 8.1 Pro x64 Surface Pro (1) can't establish a connection. After pressing the Add Wireless Display button, the Fire Stick is detected as a "Cell Phone." (That's probably indicative of the problem?) Then, attempting to connect to the FTVS results in the stick saying "a connection will start soon to "MYSURFACEPRO" for a few seconds, then the Fire TV Stick dumps back out to the Settings menu. Windows waits for a minute or so and eventually gives an error message.
I ran Windows Update and rebooted, but had same non-result.
I don't think Windows is detecting the Fire TV Stick as a "Wireless Display", so maybe that's why the FTVS is aborting the connection - Windows is negotiating wrong????

Same here. Does not miracast windows displays.
Miracast is such a bull**** standard. How can they certify devicess when they all have different handshake procedures.
Im hopping for an update. I tried with three laptops.
works for me on a stock att galaxy s5 no issues, even video streams from showbox work well. no luck with custom rom note2. looks like its too old for miracast, but streambles app works alright and no sideload needed since its on amazon fire tv app store.
With Fire Stick, works with Galaxy Tab s 8.4, not so much with Verizon S5 or Note 3.
Galaxy S3; CyanogenMod 11 = Successful screen cast but no audio (is audio supposed to work).
Galaxy S4 Stock KitKat = Successful screen sharing, but again no audio.
Kindle Fire HD 7" (2012 version). CyanogenMod 11 = Fail (Screen cast seems disabled on this device with current builds of CM11)
Lenovo Miix 2 11 with Windows 8.1 = Fail (same problems as everybody else)
Dell XPS 12 with Windows 8.1 = Fail (ditto)
Intel NUC ( D54250WYK ) with Windows 8.1 = Fail (broken record)
All attempts to share screen with my Fire TV Stick on current (as of 12/15/14) firmware.

Good point - my audio didn't work either with my LG G2 VS980 running CyanogenMod 11. Forgot about that part of it. And yes, audio is definitely supposed to work.

Update - 12/20/14
My fire tv stick updated to the newest release and I now get audio along with video from my Galaxy S4 (US T-Mobile; stock KitKat).

Were you able to try any of your Windows devices with the new firmware?
Will the pixel be able to connect to smart TVs and miracast/screen mirror?
Miracast no. Requires licensing. Google cast of course.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
But Google cast only works if I have a chromecast? Like currently I have g5 and u can cast my phone's screen to any smart TV that is connected to the same WiFi and has that capability. I won't be able to that with the pixel?
it should work for you also with the Pixel
No.
G5 has Miracast that now is built-in in most SmartTVs.
Google stopped standard mirroring support (introduced in Nexus 4) - SlimPort for wired and Miracast for wireless - starting from Nexus 6. Thus, Pixel XL won't have Miracast support.
The only option for mirroring is Google's proprietary Google Cast way, that works with Chromecast or Android TV devices (either SmartTV - like Sony and Philips - and srt top boxes - like Razer's, Shield TV, Nexus Player, Mi Box, and a few others).
Hi Everyone,
I have a Normal old generation LED tv with HDMI, but no WiFi. and I want to use my Z2 plus as Android tv and connect it through HDMI to tv.
Is it possible? if yes please suggest some...
Also, I am okay with using only the phone's motherboard as device for connecting tv.

You can amazon fire stick and believe it is quite good. You should have WiFi internet in your home. Otherwise chromecast, but amazon fire stick is superior. You can later install kodi

Hi all, I can't use smart view for mirroring to TVs, be it Sony Android TV, LG WebOS TV, or samsung's own (I don't know what's the OS). it connects, then immediately disconnects without even showing the mirroring. It failed to connect, technically. What's the problem?
Are you using any VPN while trying to mirror? If so, disconnect VPN and try again.
Same, no change
smartview has not worked for me once
using chromecast on netflix and youtube works perfectly, however chromecast with any other app gives me same issue as smartview
