Installing apps on AndroidTV - Shield Android TV General

I'm trying installing apps on AndroidTV 8.0.0 from google play. For long time there is no change, only "Install pending".
I also tried installing from my PC.

Check ipv6 us turned off in network settings and try WiFi instead of lan.
That fixes it for me.

[Q] Location Services / Settings.apk on non-rooted Fire TV sideloaded Android App

Hi folks,
I'm running a non-rooted Fire TV using the latest firmware (51.1.4.1_user_514013920) that is non Rootable.
I'm trying to run NHL Gamecenter, Global GO and other sideloaded android apps that require me to turn on Google's Location Services.
I understand that I can run NHL Gamecenter under XBMC and Ive gotten that to work but I would like to get other apps such as Global GO to work so I can get live TV streamlining working.
I sideloaded the Settings.apk that was referenced in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/how-to-enable-location-services-fire-tv-t2908270
but it doesn't work. The "Settings" app just closes when I attempt to check any of the check boxes under Location Services. If you go back into Location Services, the boxes remain unchecked.
I also found this thread but I couldn't find the specific of Settings.apk that was being used for Bluetooth.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714494
Does Settings.apk work on non-rooted Fire TVs? or only rooted Fire TVs?
If it does work, does anyone have a newer version of Settings.apk that will work a non-rooted Fire TV running the latest firmware (51.1.4.1_user_514013920)?
Thanks in advance for the help
bump! anyone???
im not 100 percent on this....but I'm pretty sure the problem is hardware related since location often relies on gps antenna and i see no such antenna in specs. my setting app simply crashes when i try to select location settings for foxsportsgo app.

you make a good point m0nkeyf00t! However, location services can rely on WiFi if GPS is not enabled. With that said, I'm not sure if its crashing settings.apk because the GPS hardware is not even available. Based on the previous threads that I posted, others seemed to have gotten it working but I'm not sure if it requires root.
Here's a google reference to location services re: GPS, WiFi & cellular networks:
The Google Maps Coordinate mobile app uses the location information on your Android mobile device to provide an estimate of your location to your dispatcher and mobile team. To estimate your location, your mobile device can access GPS satellites, Wi-Fi networks, and mobile networks. GPS provides the most accurate location information, but you'll improve accuracy further if you also allow your device to access mobile networks and Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi improves location accuracy even if you're not connected to a network).
To use Wi-Fi, you'll need to make sure Wi-Fi is enabled on your device.
hmmm interesting im on nonrootable stick I guess im stuck using kobi with sportsdevil or my wifes s5 with miracast for now. pm me if u ever find a fix.
I know the BT settings doesn't require root because I used it to add a BT keyboard to my FireTV Stick which cannot be rooted.

thanks mvanzante! can you do me a favor and try to enable Location Service on your FireTV stick? Can you let me know if that works or doesn't?
Anyone able to get an updated settings.apk that will allow location services to be checked off?

Try clearing cache and data of netflix from settings--->Manage installed application. Try clearing the cache and data from Amazon Prime too and reboot. See if that helps.
Thank you very much for your help.
I'll do it today.

Depending on your AFTV software version, your Netflix client might have been obsoleted. I have 1.0 (old...) and got the following email from Amazon...shortly after, the Netflix client stopped connecting and cannot upgrade it without upgrading the device software. I'm procrastinating for now (running last rootable ROM), but eventually will have to cave in.
In your case, depending how much you care about Super-HD and Dolby+, you can sideload the vanilla Android Netflix client (good for 480p/stereo).
Hello,
As part of a software update, the Netflix app has been updated to improve the user experience. The old version of the Netflix app is no longer supported. You will need to update your Amazon Fire TV software and download the new app in order to continue using Netflix on your Amazon Fire TV.
To update your Amazon Fire TV software:
1. From the Home screen, select Settings.
2. Select System, and then select About. You will see the current Software Version.
3. Select Check for System Update to manually check for a software update. If an update is available, it will automatically start downloading.
4. After the download is complete, select Install System Update to install the update, or it will automatically install the next time your device is idle for 30 minutes or is rebooted.
After you update your Amazon Fire TV software, you will be prompted to update the Netflix app when you open it. The new Netflix app (white icon) is available for download in the Amazon Appstore. When you open the old Netflix app (red icon), you will be prompted to go to the Appstore to download the new version.
To update Netflix and delete the old app:
1. Use the remote to select Apps on your Amazon Fire TV, and then select the old Netflix app (red icon). You'll be prompted to download the new app.
2. Select Go to Appstore.
3. Select the Free button to download the new Netflix app. The new app (white icon) will install in the background.
4. Go back to Apps, and then select the old Netflix app again (red icon).
5. You'll be prompted to uninstall the app. Select Uninstall Now.
If the old version of Netflix is in one of your Amazon FreeTime profiles, you will need to remove it from there before you can delete the app. If the app is available on multiple profiles, you will need to remove it from each one.
To remove the old app from the profile:
1. From the Home screen, select Settings.
2. Select Parental Controls & FreeTime Settings, and then Manage Child Profiles.
3. Select Add Titles to Your Child's Library.
4. Navigate to the old Netflix app (red icon) and press the Select button on the remote. This should remove the check mark from the app.
After you install the new version of Netflix, you may need to sign in to the app again with the e-mail address and password associated with your Netflix account. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
Thanks for using Amazon Fire TV.
Thank you very much for your answers.
This time I've had lucky because I've erased my cache and my data and works correctly.
Thanks a lot gopichandpai

I'm having issues connecting. Always getting the Ui-108 error.
I'm in australia with the root so I'm wondering if it's worth losing the root to get Netflix working again. I've tried all the stuff below
1. Changed DNS settings to google on router and fire tv
2. Cleared cache, data. , logged out, deleted netflix app etc
3. Loaded the time zone changer so it matches the current australian time
I guess if I upgrade I'll only miss the root for directly connecting my 4gb hdd to the USB. I can always keep Kodi and just load movies from a network share. Just not sure upgrading the fire tv firmware will make netflix work anyway.
Any other suggestions?

You have 3 options.
Option 1) If you are getting the UI-108 error during playback, you log out of Netflix and login again. I think there is an option to reset Netflix in settings of Netflix. You can try that as well
Option 2) Try clearing cache, data of both Netflix and Prime Video from Manage your applications of Fire TV. Restart your fire tv
Option 3) Clear cache and data of Netflix. Uninstall Netflix. Restart the fire tv. Install the Netflix again
I have a feeling that one of these 3 options should work for you.

One more option is to, login to Netflix from your browser, go to settings and select log out from all the devices.
If none of this works for you, try contacting Netflix. Netflix is supported in Australia and they should be able to help you.
Thanks for the advice gopichandpai but no luck.
Tried clearing the amazon video app cache and data. Already tried the log out of all devoces from the web page
I'll gove netflix australia a call.
I was having the same problem like you and yesterday I've restored my device.
I've lost root in my device but netflix works correctly that for me it's the most important.
Have fun
i found the issue if you have kodi and playing some video and press pause and go to netflix wont work it! YOU HAVE TO STOP THE STREAM on KODI for there work on netflix. WHY? I DONT KNOW! i think is a kodi bug.
I have some issues with Netflix video lagging, like stuttering from time to time, or slowing and then catching up.
Seems like this app is not perfect?
Streaming Amazon content is flawless and works in 1080p, dont think this is a connection issue.
Rebooting seems to fix it for the most part.

ChromeCast using Phone's HotSpot

So I've been trying to figure out how to get my chromecast to connect to my phones hotspot and then how to screen mirror from that same phone running the hotspot. Well apparently this feature has been added to Google Play Services starting with version 11.5.03 beta. I've installed 11.5.03 beta and 11.5.07 beta and they both support the functionality. I got the play service update apk from www.apkmirror.com just a google search. From what I read I guess you can sign up for the google beta program for Google Play Services Beta updates. Anyway I'm always taking info from this site glad to share some for once. Hopefully this isn't just news to me
I've been looking to directly cast to my chromecast (using the phones data hotspot) for ages.
I've downloaded the beta apk you mentioned.
Could you please explain how you set this up and which version of Google home you use?
You know what, I got fed up of messing around with Chromecast and hotspot streaming.
Grabbed myself a fire stick, connected it via hotspot, use any number of available apps to stream content directly using hotspot.
Job done.

Sorry I never got notified that someone had posted in this thread. In any event just to add some more info I'm using Google Home v1.24.37.7 and on a samsung s7 flat running android version 7.0 using the latest sm-g930u firmware.
How do you stop Google play services updating itself?

I haven't I've actually been updated to Version 11.5.09 now and it's still working. Not sure if once you install a beta play services if you get the beta play services updates from then on but I haven't had any issue with losing functionality of being able to mirror to a chromecast that is connected to the hotspot of the phone.

Install older version of netflix?

Is there any way if not rooted to unistall the default netflix app as I want to install an older version to use a dns service to get access to the american netflix ? I have done this on my nexus player but netflix isn't a "system app" like it is on the shield which has no unistall option. I have tried to install an older version over the newer one but to no go. Thanks.

Es file explorer. Just said the app was corrupt but I know it isn't as it installed fine on my nexus player.
So what if I were to root, would it then be possible somehow to uninstall the netflix app?

Rooted I had two versions of netflix installled, the original that came with the shield and a netflix apk I downloaded and pushed through abd link
I am not rooted and can access US (and Japan) Netflix just fine on my Shield using a smart DNS.
You have to set the DNS up in the network settings by changing your IP to static. Then input the DNS servers you want to use.
Afterwards, double tap the home button to check if Netflix is at all open, if it is, kill it. Then re-open.

Thanks for the news that it actually works. Can you perhaps share the DNS setting (adress) you used?

OnePlus 3 cast screen problem after Oxygen OS update

Hello, a fellow 3T owner here!
Just installed the latest OxygenOS 5.0.1 update and after that I am unable to cast my screen to my cars screen via Miracast. I am able to connect to my car via Wi-Fi but after turning "Cast" on I get the error message: "Connected, no internet". Before the update everything was working fine.
Does anybody have a similar issue? Any solutions?
Thanks!
Yea doesn't work here either when connecting to my TV. Same on Open Beta. Give it some time.
I had an issue on Nougat with Chromecast connected to phone's hotspot, but it had nothing to do with OxygenOS, but Google Play Services. When devices are connected to network, try to force stop Google Play Services (you need root, possible for example with Titanium Backup).
