Call Record - Google Pixel 3 XL Questions & Answers

I anyone have any luck with getting the recording of calls back up an running? I have memory issues and used to record my calls so that I can go back and listen to what was said so I can write down the important things that I miss. Searching around it says that we need to root our devices, which I have done, but can't seem to find a program or setting to allow for the recording of conversations, legally of course.

Are you recommending that app because you know for sure that it works with rooted phone running Android Pie? Because it doesn't work for me; Pixel 3 isn't listed under their list of phones (root required or not) and I'm guessing because it doesn't work with Pie.
Google's being a d-bag about the whole call recording thing on Pie, eliminating the work-around that let the usual apps work (ACR is/was my go-to).

But maybe Total Recall app will work better for your setup.

I'm using Cube ACR on my non-rooted Pixel 3 and it's working ok.

It sucks I was using acr forever and it worked great until this phone. And it seems that most of the programs that require root require supersu not magisk and the one program that did mention magisk as a possibility was highly geared for a certain rom only.

I ended up going with boldbeast recorder. It was able to get root and it seems to be working pretty good. Thanks a bunch for the ideas!

It actually does seem to work. It was able to find root and it is recording calls like acr was before.
There is a hel thread within boldbeast that takes you to their site and provides the appropriate settings to get the program to work specifically on the Pixel 3.

I tried half a dozen recommended apps last night and Boldbeast was the only one I could get to work using the rooted options and their Also recording option as discussed here.
I am however having some problems with their cloud sync options.
I would like to find a working recorder that has cloud sync and only a one time purchase fee.

I've tried a number of call recording apps including Call Recorder by @skvalex and Boldbeast recorder and am unable to get anything except for silent recordings on either of them.
I am on a Google Pixel 3XL that is rooted with Magisk, but not on a custom rom. I am running Android 10 with the May 2020 security patch level.
Does anyone have a solution for an automated call recorder that works?
Thanks!

The first one you mentioned should be working just fine, so long as configured properly.
Read the last couple pages of that thread and it should help...

After doing more reading and some trial and error, I still don't have a fully functional solution, but I may have made some progress.
I installed Call Recorder by @skvalex version 3.3.6 as a Magisk Module.
By setting it to
-Main:Standard API
-Standard API:Audio source: * [ROOT] CAF
-Recording format: WAV
-Device: Qualcomm (Android 10)
-Sample Rate:8000 Hz (Default)
-Recording mode: Auto
-Don't use AMR driver: (checked)
-When BT connected...: Do Nothing
-Switch ALSA controls: (not checked)
I get a recording of only my side of the conversation. There is no audio for the person calling me.
I tried many other audio sources and devices, all of them lead to completely silent recordings.
Thanks again for the help and suggestions!

I got it off of F-Droid. Just called call recorder

I have been using @Skalex for years over multiple phones I paid for it in fact.
A recent update in the Magisk Module changed the Audio Source from what had always been Root CAF to Voice Call uplink + downlink
I have had no issues

[Q] Recording phone calls possible?

I am wondering how i can go about recording phone calls on my note 2? I need to start recording phone calls from my cable company and some credit collectors...
Ive seen alot of places saying that you must be running a custom rom and a custom kernal, But i would not liek to root my note 2 or lose any of the data on it, or run into the issues ive had in the past with running custom firmware.
Is this possible from stock?

There's a mod that enables an inbuilt call recording button on the incall menu. This needs root. No idea how well they work. Sometimes these things have issues recording your side of the call.

Where could i find this? Also, I am not so concerned with my side, I just want to make sure it gets THEM and what THEY say clearly, so when people try to change their stories, which happens too much now adays and then suddnely, they cant pull my last call due to system errors or something...i wanna be able to say "Well, let me pull MY copy of the conversation, shall we?"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31987959&postcount=8 Is J on the list. Sadly the Villainrom site which holds most of the mods has been down for some time now. There was a temporary site setup somewhere. If you are yet to root, I found Dr Ketan's other posts on this very helpful.

I would definitely use Xposed framework and call recording mod since this only ENABLES what is already built in Note II, there is no extra software running, slowing down your phone etc. And it is logical to assume it works better then 3rd party apps which weren't specifically written for SGNII.
As far as ROOT is concerned I really don't see how it can affect anything, especially what root has in common with messages being deleted etc. It must have been something else. Root has no impact on your phone's functionality, it only removes protection to system files (or better said, changes it from unavailable to available via prompt from the SU app, so there stil is some protection). There is excellend sticky by dr ketan (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696) on how to root SGNII.

So where can i get the xposed framwork and mod again?
And I am certain it was not the root, but i only noticed it on my s3 after i rooted. Not attributing it to the fact, but i didnt like it none the less, because i lost alot of messages and i couldnt send one or two messages wihtout rebooting every 5 seconds, and most hte time that didnt even fix it.

First read the excellent thread on rooting, triangle away. After you root (trust me it is not difficult, you just have to take your time, read it through a couple of times) here is xposed thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012770. The modules are located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2189965. The one you need is either "Enable Call Recording" or "Exposed TweakBOx", they both enable call recording but TweakBox can do a few more things.
And the best thing is there are a lot of modules for other things, and once you root and install xposed, you don't have to flash them - they're installed as normal APKs.
Best app for crystal clear recording is sanity download it from playstore and set to recording mode from mic to phone..... it works like charm I am using it....

uk 4.2.2
i read i'm not only one but i didn't find solution
So I got the N-5120 LTE version, running Android 4.1.2., a couple of weeks ago. I'm very pleased with this versatile tablet. I intended to use this with Skype Out. Making Skype to Skype calls works fine through a BT headset. However when using Skype Out, calls are initiated through the headset, but as soon as they start, they are then switched over to the phones earspeaker. The loudspeaker function is not available for Skype Out.
Both the BT and the Speaker Phone functions are turned on/off only through Samsung's sofware, it seems, and then only once the call has started.
I can tell I'm not the only one with this challenge. That said, since there are so few complaining about this here I'm wondering if there are fixes?

I did. This is apparently a common problem among Note users on the Skype forum, and according to them, this appeared with the latest version of Skype. What to do?
1. Uninstall Skype through the Play store, as usual.
2. In the Google Play store, click on the uppermost left hand side corner, choose my apps, and unclick auto updating. Otherwise Skype will auto update to the new version again... BTW you will henceforth have to update all your apps manually.
3. On your unit, go to Settings, Security (the padlock symbol) and allow unknown sources of programs, outside of the Play store
4. Go here http://skype.en.uptodown.com/android/download/44494 and install the older version: Skype 3.2.06673
5. Go back to the Security, and deselect unknown sources if you want to lock down your device again.
This enabled me to make Skype Out calls with both headset and speakers. It's not entirely fool proof, as sometimes it starts on the speakers before handing over to the headset, but at least it works.

http://community.skype.com/t5/Android/How-to-create-a-good-Android-issue-report/td-p/211384
So v. 3.2.0.6673 was probably a blessing in disguise. Skype on Android via the loudspeaker or BT continues erratic behavior, although it's better than v. 4.5.. from that sspect I discovered on here that a bug in v 3.2.0.6673 allows an attacker to bypass the lock screen on your Android device.*

Call recording apps?

On ye olde phone (Samsung) I used ACR to record calls. That worked great.
For the Pixel, not so much. I notice on the ACR support forum that they say that it won't work: https://bitbucket.org/copluk/acr/issues/870/google-pixel-xl
Anyone else found a different app or method that does work?
Hi, there's no way to record both sides without root on Pixel XL. But if you get root, call recording is possible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=69380102#post69380102

I'm using Automatic Call Recorder Pro with my Nexus 6p and it works great, you can setup up default actions on how you want the recordings handled including automated backups to your cloud account. I have mine automatically saved to my Google Drive account when on wi-fi. Or alternatively you can choose to handle everything manually in which case you willl be prompted at the end of each calll.
I'm still waiting for my pre-ordered Pixel XL so I haven't yet tried it with that handset at this time.

I'm also using Pro licence, with version 18.6 and use the DropBox integration. But, as I mentioned, it doesn't seem to record on the Pixel and according to the developer shouldn't be working on your Nexus either.
Would you mind answering a few q's?
* What version of OS do you have on your Nexus?
* In ACR, what is the Audio source?
* Are you attempting to record using bluetooth?
* Did you select a profile in the 'Recording issue' setting, and if so, do you know which one?
Thanks.

No Problem glad to help
Android version 7.0 with the August 5th, 2016 security patch, build NRD90M
Audio Source: Voice Communications
Audio Format AMR
App version: Pro 5.20 (103)
Delay calll in: 500
Delay call out: 1000
I haven't tried recording using a bluetooth headset, I do have bluetooth built in to my car and can send or receive calls over bluetooth without issue, haven't specifically checked calll recordings while driving using the built in car bluetooth system.
App works like a champ, hope that helps troubleshoot your settings!

Interesting, thank you.
Just to check, it's the same app. ACR by NLL ('Another Call Recorder). I only ask because that version number is very different to the one for the app I've got.
I'll change from auto to voice communication when I'm back in the country (Monday) to see if that fixes it.

IT works way better in Root, picking up the stream of both Mic and Speaker.
Without root Mic audio is fine but speaker Audio is way low.
I can easily hear both ends of the conversation but it is simply not as effective as when you have Root.
But it works fine enough for the law, Yes i am in a one party state.

Just to follow up on this. I'm now at 7.1.1 and, after uninstalling AnotherCR, installed AutomaticCR, but it only records my voice not the caller, regardless of settings. I suspect it's the lack of root. Ho hum.
I just discovered this issue too. Wish I would have checked previously to see if it was actually working. Time to add another thing to check when moving to a new phone. Oh I miss my Note 7 but outside this recording issue, the Pixel XL is Awesome!
Use boldbeast app from Google store, then use these settings : use these settings to record calls:
- Record Mode: Alsa
- Alsa Channels: 2 Channels
- Tune Audio Effect: No
- Tune Audio Route: Group3
- Change Audio Controls: Yes
- Change Audio Driver: No
- Start Input Stream: test Yes and No

What? seriously? Are you people paid to promote this app? DUDE. It doesn't work unless the SPEAKER is on and do you know how annoying that is? Not to mention no Bluetooth. The reason for this is simple. Like the guy said you need to ROOT the Pixel to get the other end of the call. Otherwise you are just recording it from the speaker. Not even the last app posted here (which seems to be ADWARE) can do it properly without ROOT.
The call recording feature of Pixel / Pixel Plus is disabled by Google, as a result it can only record your own voice, the caller's voice will be very weak in recordings, no matter what recorder you are using in the market. However during recording if you switch on the speaker it can record calls well in both directions.
It's inconvenient to switch on the speaker, especially when you are in the office with your colleagues. If you don't root the phone you have no solution in the world to fix the problem. If you root the phone there are several recorders that can fix the problem.
After root the phone, Boldbeast Recorder can record calls crystal clear in two sides, both Android 7.0 and 8.0 Oreo work well.
Android 7.0 and 8.0 need different settings, detailed information: https://www.boldbeast.com/forum/topic1343-google-pixel-call-recorder.html

I have the Note 10+ and I live in Tennessee where it is legal to record calls as long as one person knows it is being recorded but the Note 10+ factory app to record calls is not available and I need an app that will work on this phone if your using it normally or on speaker phone to record calls.
I want one that works, tired of trying them and they only record my voice. I need all voices on the conversation to be recorded.
Someone please help.
That function was removed from the OS. no one can do this with an official build.

That is what I read, is there an app that actually works out there, if so does anyone have the link?
Back when I had my Note 2, 4 I had hacked them from advice on here and was able to do cool things but I have not messed with it in a long time. I forgot a lot of it and not sure if there is a build out there that lets you record calls anyway. Why did they remove it when you should be allowed to record your own calls.
This stems from a situation where I was offered a job and told my rate of pay, what expenses were covered and such, then when the pay was lower and expenses not paid they said they never said that and since it was all done by phone there was no proof they said it. They never sent me any emails confirming pay information so they screwed me because I would not have taken the job at what they are paying me and the expenses they are not reimbursing me for. So if I had a call recorder I would have had proof. This is why I want one that actually works, to cover my butt!

There's none. What apps currently doing is recording what comes out from phone speakers which is absolutely random and bad quality wise.
Use ACR. Don't forget to turn off battery optimization. I am using Note10 + ACR right now, you do not even need to make any adjustments, all voices are recording.
ACR records the phone speaker output using the microphone on the phone. Not as good as what had been used in the past. Direct recording of incoming audio on phone calls was removed from android by Google. This was probably done to comply with international laws.
You would think with all the smart people on this forum someone could make an app that works. I would happily chip in $5 for it if it really works and records both sides clearly.
Can someone make this app, as long as it is leagal in the states the people live in it should be fine.
Does it work on regular calls or do you have to have speaker phone on, thanks. And which one is it, who is the developer, the name, there are like 5 ACR apps, thanks

yes it works both ways. developer name NLL

I use ACR from the Galaxy Store and it works flawlessly. It even recognises my Pro Licence from Google Play Store

I have an app that works well. Don't know if it is direct record but the icon looks like this...

Use the one from Galaxy store as it can show contact names
I'm using BoldBeast. Both sides record and also my names are recorded using the update version that BoldBeast provides on their website due to Play Store policy. I'm using Snapdragon variant SM-N9750

Tried it and with my Exynos, no luck. Any other suggestions?
ACR from Galaxy store works fine with Exynos. Both incoming as outgoing voice is recorded.
Would you mind sharing your setting, because for me it's not working?
I didn't make any settings, just downloaded the app and it records every phonecall.
I don't use any BT headset, just the phone.

Me too, but it doesn't work on my side :/
Cube ACR is and has been working for me. Paid version.
Once in awhile I'll get a call and it will notify me that it can't record. So I have to go into the app, turn off the connector, reboot, turn it back on and I'm good. Other than that it's been flawless for me. This is on an unrooted device.

Question Call recording (no root) solution

I share this because I saw people searching for it
It's the stock oneplus dialer app so it gives you the ability to use the "record" button
Only the dialer changes
I place a high value on call recording. I've always rooted my phones and utilized @skvalex's fantastic app in the past.
I'm considering not rooting for the first time since I want Google Pay and system updates to run seamlessly. I'm aware that there are solutions, but they appear to be cumbersome.
Has anyone found a viable way to record phone calls on the Pixel without requiring root access?
I got the American version from Google.
Which version of 1+ contacts do you use?
Mine is 6.4.5 and a bit buggy
