I am looking to buy a Galaxy Note 2 without upgrading through Verizon. I've started looking at the information out there regarding this phone and it is thoroughly confusing, which leads me to a few questions which I hope someone can help me with:
1. Can I buy a Galaxy Note 2 N7105 (the 4G LTE model) and have it be compatible with the Verizon network?
2. After a little research I see that Verizon's LTE spectrum runs at Band 13 - 700MHz, so if the GN2 that I'm looking at says that it is compatible with 700MHz, then does the banding matter?
3. Lastly, I am looking to do this because Verizon now requires you to upgrade your plan when you purchase a new phone through them, and they remove your grandfathered unlimited plan. According to the rep at Verizon, you can buy a new phone independently, and according to everything I've found on the internet, you can activate the new note, but it would only be at the 3G speeds. Can anyone speak to this issue with some clarity?
This is my first post, so forgive me if I've done anything incorrectly?
Thanks to anyone that can shed some light on this and I hope that some others would chime in if they are wondering the same things.
ok my question is this,
I am trading up an old iPhone 4s for a T-Mobile Galaxy Note II, is it possable to debrand or install AT&T rom on this phone to make it an AT&T phone?
or any kind of work around to get it running on AT&T LTE network
let me know
Thanks
P.S. i do not have the phone in hand yet so i am asking if it is worth the trade

I know the tmobile note 2 is capable of lte but.it's not enabled in the default firmware, and I'm not sure if the frequencies will be the same as tmo hasn't even started rolling out their lte. My guess is it's the same hardware, but I would do as much searching as possible before doing the trade. If it's possible, I'm sure someone here at xda will get it working if it's possible, but it hasn't been out long enough for any definitive info. (At least nothing I've seen)

It should run on the AT&T HSPA+ (3.5G) network with no problems (as long as it's carrier/SIM unlocked) as the phone should have the 850/1900 GSM bands that AT&T uses. I'm not sure about LTE...but I don't think it will work.

Which Note 2 supports more networks and frequencies; and therefore, which would be more suitable for international travel. Is the Verizon Note 2 even pentaband?
T mobile version because it's gsm which is going to work overseas. Verizon is a CDMA and I haven't read that it has gsm support.

Yup, the T-Mobile version will work in more places overseas -- Especially Europe. Just in case, you might want to ask this in the Verizon area also just to make sure. :good:
I'm confused because on Samsungs website, http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SCH-I605TSAVZW-specs
the Verizon Model has the GSM frequencies,
is it GSM if unlocked; i believe the Note 2 is already unlocked by verizon, will it work on GSM frequencies internationally?
correct me if I'm wrong, thanks
the verizon Galaxy Note II apparently has the GSM radios,
also has LTE; doesn't AT&T LTE work along same frequencies as verizon LTE
or is the verizon LTE exlusively to CDMA?
All Galaxy Note 2 devices seem to have all WCDMA, GSM, and LTE bands.
But what I understand is that Verizon version is considered as a "world" phone. I know that they tell me that I can use their Galaxy Note 2 on the European Networks.
I have played around with the bands on my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 and can get the WCDMA and LTE working. So I don't know if the Modem firmware in all Galaxy Note 2 are the same and just need to be activated by the carrier's sim card or not. Someone please educate us on the this. I know that their is talk of needing OTA update to activate the LTE within T-Mobile GN2. But if the Modem is all the same then can just updating or exchanging the sim card could do the same? Or does the nv file also needs to be updated to activate the band/s as well?
The question is not if Galaxy Note 2 (all verisons) have the bands. But how to (the actual process) activate the band, in question, and get the Galaxy Note 2 in working order with the carrier of choice? What is the method? How to do the process of this method?
Please correct me if I am getting this wrong.
^ good point, and also just to ask about the verizon note 2 again, i thought it carries carries an an additional radio for CDMA, does this mean that the verizon note 2 model has better capabilities worldwide' since it is virtually compatible with all networks in the world (simply tweaks to the frequencies to the radio can get the verizon variant working virtually anywhere) please correct me if I'm wrong here. thanks

Problem I have seen in the past with Verizon world phones is that the game frequencies only work overseas. And lte is gsm band. Which is one of the few reasons Verizon phones have a sim slot to begin with

All recent Verizon LTE phones have GSM radios built in as well as their own CDMA/LTE radio. The LTE radio is only compatible with their network.
Some of these phones are even shipped out of the box unlocked and can be used immediately on GSM networks in the U.S.
If you do get the Verizon Note II and want to use it on T-Mobile, it will not have support for their HSPA+ 42mbps network, I believe it maxes out at 21mbps, as with all other Note II's around the world except for T-Mobiles.
But doesn't Verizon use LTE on the 700 band just like AT&T and future TMobile LTE?

Please correct me if I'm wrong, thank you.

So the Verizon Note2 is like the AT&T Note2 & Sprint Note2 (supporting 21Mbps HSPA+ but not 42Mbps like T-Mobile) but all only with their own respective LTE?..wouldn't it be more cost effective for Samsung just to make 1 phone with all the hardware to support all (isn't the iPhone5 like that now?) or is it cost prohibitive or do carriers not want to make it easier to unlock?
Are we still confident that the T-Mobile Note2 is the best if we want the flexibility to use on all carriers? How often is >21Mbps HSPA+ seen in real world use & why is the disabled LTE not listed at http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1877 ?
So, which is better then, Verizon or T-Mobile? Verizon's Note 2 also includes a CDMA radio whereas the T-Mobile version does not. If you are using the Note 2 in the US, wouldn't you have more flexible options in terms of which carrier to use?

So do we consider the Verizon Note2 even more carrier flexible than T-Mobile's Note2 (as I was about ready to buy the T-Mobile Note2 to try their $30/mo plan but now having some doubts..if I want this tomorrow I need to order soon) ?
-Thnx
Well LTE On the Verizon Note 2 is only compatible with Verizon's Network. Even if unlocked; the phone's firmware only recognizes LTE if only the Verizon 750 band is detected. Verizon has its own exclusive LTE bands compared to AT&T and Future T-Mobile LTE (sharing the same LTE bands)

I cannot speak to the CDMA radio issue, but I am positive that Verizon LTE will not work with any GSM LTE phone. The frequencies are similar, but Verizon is using a different LTE protocol. I asked that question a long time ago, thinking that LTE would finally allow roaming between Verizon and AT&T, but they are too clever to allow such a democratic system to function. They will remain fundamentally incompatible, not because they need to be, but because they want it that way to keep you locked to your carrier by your choice of device. Nice, eh?

The Verizon NoteII will (in theory) connect to any gsm carrier. How to do so, I don't know.
Sent from my very "non-stock" TP.
^^^ Well, the Verizon Note 2 will not be able to work with another carrier's LTE than itself.
my experience
Hey folks,
I've got the Verizon Note 2 and I love it. If you're willing to unlock the bootloader and then install a hack onto your device, you'll easily be able to swap the SIM card out and use it just about anywhere. Yes, the phone is carrier unlocked (not the same as bootloader unlocked). The issue is that in the settings, they won't let you add the specific APNs for the carriers you need. I"m not sure how else to get around that without installing some of the hacks. I managed to do it and it works beautifully on Canada's Bell Mobility, HSPA+ is screamingly fast and the LTE on VErizon in the States is just insanely fast. My recommendation: get the Verizon version because they've built out their LTE much more than their rivals at this point.
On anantech the reviewer stated that the tmobile version would be the most compatible. If you get vzw note2 and switch you wont get lte on tmob or att. Quite frankly vzw is too expensive and the coverage from tmobile is getting better by the month. Not to mention their business pricing is better than any of the other carriers.
Is there and way to get the samsung galaxy note 8 to run on the aws 1700/2100 networks?

I'm also hoping to figure out whether it's possible to enable the 1700MHz band on my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (SGH-i467) from At&t. I'd like to be able to use it on a T-Mobile MVNO such as Lycamobile or PTel. I have seen information on how to enable an At&t Samsung Galaxy S4 for use on a T-Mobile MVNO so I'm hopeful that it can be done with the At&t Note 8.

that is the same network in looking to get it running on, but in toronto. I really like the note 8 even if tho it doesnt have the top tech in it.
If you find out how please post the HOWTO. Im not getting the at&t cersion but the one from asia. If the at&t on works then i'll get that one a mod it

Chances are I'll either go with an Att MVNO (Consumer Cellular or H2O - if they do reduce their PayGo data rates as expected) or try the 1900MHz band from a TMobile MVNO first. However if neither of those work out well for my situation I'd definitely like to figure out how to enable AWS on the Note 8 so I could get full coverage from a TMobile MVNO. So far I really like the device itself but finding true Pay As You Go data is tough.
Either way I'm not necessarily a developer so a detailed solution would have to come from someone else - perhaps someone who knows Samsung devices well. I haven't tried posting to a Samsung specific forum yet but that might make sense at some point. Good Luck, I think you'll really like the Note 8 if you get one.

Well I found you the answer Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 GT-N5100 that will work on TMOBILE.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0Cq2Qlt8w0
Why do you claim this model will work on T-Mobile? Looking at the specifications it does not have the 1700 MHz band (just like my At&t device doesn't). The video just says he is going to do a 30 day trial, nothing about modifying it to work at 1700 MHz.
My device and probably this one as well would work on the T-Mobile 1900 MHz band but that is just being implemented now so coverage isn't great. As I mentioned I'll most likely try an At&t MVNO first. Do you need the 1700 MHz band so you can use AWS in Toronto? I can't seem to find an international version that already has it enabled but I could be wrong. Good Luck!

I watch all the video about the note 8 in that guys video and he tales about running it on the T-MOBLE and being on the network. Watch the other vids. I think they also have the edge to run it on. I would like to be 100% sure before i buy the international version. Cell prices are too much up here. I will not pay more than $30 or $40 for a cell a month. I have unlimited everything for under $40 but that data suck but i can live with that.
Could someone tell me if SamMobile made a typo?
It say that both non wifi versions of the Note 8.0 support AWS.
Dear Friends,
Hope everyone is well. As a side effect of having wealth of knowledge, reading through the forums here I believe the answer to my question is still, "yes" however, I would still like to confirm and make sure:
If I buy a Verizon Note 8 today, whether it's from Ebay, Swappa, Craigslist and etc and whether the user did or did NOT update to the latest Bootloader version and firmware version (Oreo)... Is it still possible to use some combination of firmware, Bootloader, CSC and etc to convert the Verizon Note to an AT&T Note or the unbranded US Note 8 and still have unrestricted, full functionality on AT&T?
If, yes, indeed, can you please point me to the right guide and files so that I can go through my purchase?
Appreciate your help in advance!
Any input, friends? Trying to buy a Note 8 based on your expert opinions ?... Thanks!
I converted my VZW note 8 to AT&T and used it flawlessly for a few months. This was before Oreo was released. I've since switched it back to VZW.
While on AT&T, volte & wifi calling worked as well.

It is always best to get the carrier brand you intend to be on....
But if you can't pass on a deal, yes you can follow switching carrier guide to turn a Verizon Note into an ATT Note....
On the one hand if you need to move between carriers or around the world, it be better to get the Verizon phone even for the AT&T network because it gives you CDMA + Quad-Band GSM. If you are going to stick with one carrier, if you get a newer phone, it will probably support 100% of their current and soon-to-be bands while the Verizon might only support 90%. That might make a difference in aggregation. Depending on the company, they might not allow you to use aggregation or VOLTE or Wi-Fi calling without their branded phone, although ajent above has had luck with at least 2 out of 3 of those by using a Verizon phone on an AT&T network.
