Help With Settings Menu - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Hello all,
My settings app/menu keeps clsoing on me. Whenever I go into it, it will stay on the screen for a second and then close. I removed some apps via adb but, none or so I thought, had anything to do with the settings menu. Does anyone know what could be causing this or have a fix for it?

I DO IT, still doesnt let me enable BUT i noticed some options that were not there before the reset. I can now not only stop but also disable apps completely even the ones you normally couldnt uninstall unless you had root. Anyone else noticed this?

can anyone comment on the in call proximity sensor?
In gingerbread if you put the phone to your head to talk and removed it, sometimes the LCD screen wouldn't come back on.
Is there maybe an option now in phone settings to keep LCD on during calls??
Thanks guys.

SOLVED: Unable to install Amazon Appstore?

I am having a problem installing the Amazon Appstore (and the foxfi installer too now that I think about it). I am able to download the APK and run it but once in the program the install button does nothing. I mean I click on it and there is no error message, no program crash, nothing. It's almost like the install button image isn't a button and I'm clicking on nothing. Clicking cancel or show all for the permissions works fine.
I have enabled install from unknown sources and even tried to disable it and try but nothing works. Has anyone encountered anything like this before? TIA for any help.
EDIT: BTW I'm on stock and not rooted.
SOLVED: Thanks to Zerkai it appears that Screen Filter and Screen Adjuster can prevent APKs from installing.
Try to install these apps with an APK Installer. Like the following.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwyLDEsImNvbS5wb3RlbnRlLmFway5pbnN0YWxsZXIiXQ..
See if that changes anything.

Just tried that and it is exhibiting the same issue. Called amazon and they hadn't heard of it and had no suggestions on how to fix it. They did mention security apps might be able to block installs and that led me to look at my apps. I did have Norton mobile security installed but stopping it and then even uninstalling it didn't get rid of the issue.
This is really starting to frustrate me.
May sound obvious, but have you tried restarting your phone?
If you were rooted I'd recommend clearing your dalvik and /cache.
One thing you may try is cleaning up your SD card.. Even try renaming the android folder on your sd card. It holds app data for diff apps. you system will recreate it. just delete the recreated on and change the name back after you've tested it.
The only other option (that comes to mind) is a factory reset. I would try the other stuff first. Something is corrupt somewhere.
By any chance are you using, Screen Filter?

I am not, but I did have screen adjuster installed and figured whatever screen filter was doing might be done by screen adjuster. So I uninstalled and guess what it worked now. Thanks a lot Zerkai, you the man.
But wtf would screen filter do that could cause this?
Beats me. Lol. I was baffled when I figured out Screen Filter was the cause. But all is well as long as it's not active. Have a good day!

Old thread. Yes, I know. Came across this thread trying to fix the same issue. The app causing the issue for me was JuiceDefender. I think JD controlling the screen's brightness level was the issue. Anyway, I disabled JD and I was able to access the button.

[Q] Uninstalled Talkback, still shows in notification bar

I am rooted and uninstalled talkback and after every reboot, I see the talkback hand icon with the "talkback is enabled" in the notification bar. The temporary fix is to go into Accessability and turn off one or everything (varies time to time) that uses it and turn it back on, after this, talkback no longer shows in notification bar. At this point, it is gone until a reboot, in which it shows again.
I have even tried reinstalling talkback, disabling and freezing it then uninstalling, no change.
How can I get rid of this?

Nobody?? This is driving me bonkers and I refuse to believe nobody else has this issue or can help me out
Try uninstalling, then delete dalvik cache and cache in recovery
Do you have Tasker or any other app which interacts with notifications.

tried disabling both others 1 by 1, no change
Using a File Explorer. Go in and make sure to delete the Folder that the app created. There may be something in there, that is causing the issue. Also if you are no longer going to use the App, there is no need for it to have a folder.

I ran a search with Root Explorer and found 4 results for "talkback"... all of which are on my external card as backups to versions of the app. Just got good measure I deleted and rebooted, issue remains.

musta missed this post, sorry. Tried this, issue remains.
I think your not removing the app correctly. It's remaining either in the apps folder or the system folder. There is something which is reinitializing the app and creating all the folders you already fou d.

I am uninstalling the app via ROM Toolbox. I freeze then uninstall it through that app. How might you suggest?
On the phone itself settings>apps, >all apps or go into your root explorer go to system apps and delete it right in there and reboot. Go back in and make sure it's gone. Right now your using a 3rd arty app to remove another app instead of going g to the root source.

Go into Menu - Settings - Application manager - All. Scroll down till you see the App. Tap on it. Tap Force stop. Tap Clear Data. Tap Uninstall. Then just as a precaution Reboot. It should then be gone.

It is not there as I have uninstalled it and can find no trace anywhere with any app or system app.
Reinstalled it so I could follow these steps. Followed EXACTLY as you suggestion. Force Stop, Cleared Data, Uninstall. At this point, it is again removed from the app list (as it was minutes ago). Rebooted and icon STILL shows after reboot. Confirmed Talkback app is not in App Manager. Used Root Explorer to ensure "talkback" is NOWHERE in my phone and verified it is removed from Accessibility screen.
I know how to uninstall an app, but it seems this sucker is embeded into the stock ROM somehow. Other ideas? Nobody else having this issue on Sprint S3?
After opening Accessibility and sitting on that page, the icon goes away after ~1-3minutes and/or clicking on any app that uses Accesibility, but will show again after next reboot.
UPDATE: I went and uninstalled EVERY app that used Accessibility (after MUCH hesitation and backing up the settings several times). Icon still remained. Rebooted and GONE!!!!! OMFG! A complete uninstall did it. Now to reinstall those I NEED and pray!
Hope it stays sorted. Try not to restore any data, or very little.

At this point I'd recommend a Full Wipe, and Flash.
It will always show up after reboot if u have anything turned on in accessibility-services settings. Go to accessibility scroll down to services and see what u have on and turn it off and the icon will go away turn it back on to use whatever u had turnded on

Selecting Security under settings cause Settings to force close

Is anyone having issues with security setting under personal? When I select it, the settings application force closes with Unfortunately, Settings has stopped. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Standard Verizon note 4. no root.
Played around a bit and decided to do a settings reset which corrected issue.

I had the same issue, factory reset fixed it but now 2 days later the problem has returned. Can't access the security settings without it force closing.

Thanks for the feedback. Reset settings worked for me. Only had to change a few things back from default. Did not have to redo apps. I spoke with Verizon and a patch may be coming in Jan. Some apps and wireless charging have been causing an issue with the security setting.

Problem returned for me last night. This time I had to reset. Did the problem come back again for you?
Resetting the settings didn't work for me and I don't feel like factory resetting my phone every couple days so I guess it's gonna stick around a while.

I had to start in safe mode to get security settings to open up for me. Not a great long term solution but it worked so I could change the unknown sources setting.
Thanks for the reply, how do you start in safe mode?
These are the instructions for the Note 3 but they work:
With the device powered off, press and hold the Power button until the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 logo appears then release.
With the logo on the screen, press and hold the Volume down button until Safe mode appears in the lower left of the screen then release.
Note This may take up to 45 seconds.
Thanks!

Thank you. Just got this device today, and one of the first things I tried to do was install an app I am testing. It kept crashing trying to get to security. I tried Safe Mode, and it worked great. Thanks again.

That kept happening to me and I finally figured out a solution! I kept having my apps reinstalled from Google and, whenever an app that I had previously used that required root access was installed, Settings would crash whenever I tried to open Security. So, it was a long process but I reinstalled only those apps that didn't need root access. Afterwards, I kept testing to make sure I could still access Security without the crash and, when something was installed that caused the crash again, I knew which app it was, uninstalled it, and all was fine again. I had to reset the phone 6 times to figure this out but all's good now!

Glad you got it working. Would you be able to tell me what app it was? I have the same problem.
I had so many apps that needed root that it just made sense to not have Google install my apps after resetting. I really can't recall specifically which one it was. What I do suggest, which will take a while but is so worth the time, is to make a list of what's on there now and only reinstall like 3 at a time and then check to make sure that everything's ok. If it is, install a couple more, etc. That way, if one screws it up, you'll know which one to uninstall rather than having to reset it all over again. At least if you do install one that needs root and, therefore, screws it up for you, you can just uninstall that one program. Good luck! Let me know how it goes. ☺
Was finally able to figure this out (for me anyway). Its my S View cover. With the cover off I have no problem getting into security put it back on and it forcecloses. I went to Best Buy and tried 2 others and they both caused the security to forceclose as well.
Was chatting with a Samsung Rep where they remotely control your phone and she came up with the conclusion that it is a bad app and wants me to do a factory reset and add the apps back 1 at a time. I will wait till I flash a ROM and do it then. I am leaning towards that it is a app. If every Note 4 with a S View cover had this issue then it would be more widely known.
I had the S cover and that wasn't the problem. Like I said, it was cos I was having Google automatically install my old apps, some of which were apps that needed root like Titanium Backup, Rom Toolbox, etc.. I was able to put Apex as my home, just not apps that needed root. Titanium is the reason I want root so much. Being able to clean up or delete apps I don't use.
Yes, i had the same problem with my s view cover. Once i took it off, i was able to go back into the security settings.

Screen overlay errors

Hi, Oneplus 3 with 3.1.2 stock OS. Whenever an app tries to set permissions such as at install I get the dialog Screen Overlay Detected and have to go to settings, turn off overlay for network monitor pro, then try again. After that I have to switch network monitor pro overlay back on so I can see the download speeds.
Is this expected? Coming from a Nexus 5 I have never seen this before, if it isn't normal can anyone suggest a remedy? Thanks
Its generally caused by some app you have installed recently. I can say Facebook or Facebook messenger. Remove them and set the permissions again

I haven't got Facebook, no apps installed that weren't already on my Nexus 5 that I moved from. Is there any way I can definitively find out which app could be causing the problem?

Network monitor pro is the problem like you said.
I'm using screen equalizer to 'fix' the OP3 screen and that's also an overlay I need to switch off when I install apps from sdcard.
Just do this...
Reboot into safe mode and enable the permissions required for every app and then boot back into normal mode.
This will fix it...!

Unfortunately not, turned off all screen overlays, rebooted into safe mode, enabled network monitor mini pro and then rebooted into normal mode. When an app wanted to change a permission, listronic wanted access to contacts, I got the screen overlay message again. I had to disable the screen overlay, retry listronic and then reenable screen overlay again.
It's driving me mad! I take it nobody else is getting this, why me when I'm entirely stock?
