What's worse for the battery? - Huawei Mate 20 Questions & Answers

Leaving my phone on a regular slow charger over night or leaving phone off the charger at night and topping up with the super charger in the morning?

Top up to 80-85 in the morning that way u don't waste a cycle. That said don't let it get lower than 20%

SGSII Battery Charge Speed (0% to 45% in 1 HOUR!)

Is it me or does our phones charge super fast?
I drained it to 0% (let the phone die by itself while watching youtube)
Then I plugged it in at 8:05AM this morning.
At 9:05AM it was at 45%.
Pretty impressive.
(Once charged to 100%, should I wipe the battery stats and drain down to 0% again? This is how you would calibrate it correct?)

If you are getting incorrect stats then yes, clear the battery stats. The best way to calibrate is to drain, refill & repeat. Along the way when the battery is 100%, turn it off and charge it till it says its full again. Do this a few times when it's unplugged and you will see better life.
Speaking of fast charge.
I had 17% left at around 12:30pm today. Plugged it in while I went to lunch. Now at 2:50pm, just got notified that it's fully charged. Not bad at all.
Also, I had drained my battery when I received my phone.
How is that even possible!!!!!!!!!
It takes me 3.5 hours to charge it full!!!!!
Damn!!
I have two lines and this is my second SGSII aside to the one I already have...
I got this phone just yesterday and last night was my first full drain....today was my first full charge.
Shouldn't I go into recovery and wipe the batt stats?

I noticed today that the output from the charger for the SGS2 is 5V 1A and all other usb chargers ive gotten recently have an output thats closer to an actual usb port (4.5-5V 500mA) so that might have something to do with it.
My test pool on this hypothesis is quite small though so id be curious if anyone else can corroborate
I notice my battery charges much faster on an official samsung charger. Anything below 1V charges super slow. I want to try a rapid 2V charger but worried it may ruin my battery.. but on the other hand, AFAIK, some samsung car chargers charge @ 2v. They're called "rapid chargers" This is one of those times where you think AH any generic charger would do. I used to be in that camp. But I really found that the Samsung chargers are quickest. Also, they seem less likely to damage the micro usb port due to repeated use due to the fact that the Samsung cables tend to be thin and light weight as opposed to thick and bulky like some eBay cables. The thick and bulky ones feel like they'll give you enough leverage/weight if grabbed the wrong way and tear your micro usb port right off.
In the end, I love the Samsung chargers.

How long do you charge your XPlay for....?

I charge it for about 3 and a half hours just before going to bed. So that's from 8:00 PM - 11:30 PM and take the charger out.
Anyways how long are we supposed to charge the Xperia Play for ?
I charge mine all night from about 10 pm to 6am nearly every night and have had the phone since launch day and never had any problems with the battery or charger but routhly once a month I let the battery completely die to 0% then fully recharge

Oh right. So its okay to leave the phone on charge overnight. I think i'll just do that then and every month just drain battery and recharge fully !
I actually don't plug my phone into the charger. I bought some after-market batteries that are the same as the stock battery. I used to have 2 spares, but one was faulty, so I'm down to my main battery and the spare. I leave a battery on the charger until I need it, then stick the other one in the charger. I'd say they stay on the charger for up to 24 hours.

So you take each battery out of the Xperia Play and charge them ?
Yup. Once you take the battery out, wait about 30 seconds before putting it in so the battery usage gets wiped. Once you put the other battery in, boot up and you're good to go.
Depending on my usage, I usually just charge it over night, leaving it plugged in from when I go to bed, normally around midnight, to when I get up again at 7ish. I've never had any problems doing this, I am however a VERY high usage person, so a lot of the time I have to give it a top up in the middle of the day, before I go to work.
I usually charge up to 100% right before I go to bed and unplug it and reboot it. I've still got 99~100% in the morning.

When i'm just scrolling through menus when having the display on for about 2-3 mins 1% of battery goes. Is this normal and does this happen with yours ?
I charge mine for two hours only
Is it okay to charge the Xperia Play through a extension unit ?
I charge 1-2 times a day. Basically every night before bed I plug it in and it stays for about 6-7 hours, But the bad cell signal at work eats through my battery if I do a lot of texting or anything so by around 4 pm sometimes I plug in for an hour and top up (I'm usually around 25% at that point), or sometimes when I get home but know I'll be headed out I plug in for 1/2 hour or 45 min to get it up around 70-80% or so and I'm good till I get home, even if I play games and stuff or whatever else.

isn't it bad to charge the battery after it reaches one hundred percent?

No because the phone stops charging. It only accepts charging at 99.99% or lower basically.

I used to charge my play about 2hours if the batt completly discharged..sometime at the whole night.depend when it is fully discharge.
So is it better to charge it for longer?

How to do you charge your One X?

Just wondered how most people are charging there One X? Personally I always turn it off and allow it to charge until the light goes green. I've never charged it when it's still been turned on.
I've never switched off any of my android phone's whilst charging. What happens if you get a call? I also try to alternate between charging on my pc and the wall charger.

Yeah fair statement, I had thought about that. I wasn't sure if it was bad to say plug the phone in at 11pm until 7am (8 hours) charging whilst it being turned on? I assumed if it was going to be plugged in say for that long that you should turn it off.
I just plug it in - went to bed on 80% last night but fair enough I'd hardly used the phone all day (standby battery life is incredible)

So you stuck it on charge just to boost that extra 20% yeah? How come you didn't just leave it until it was low?
Should of asked if people would partially charge it or if they always ensure its fully charged.. Can't amend the poll now though.
I was thinking about trying that - might do that tonight and see how it lasts...
I plug it in to a usb cable
i charge my hox every night on the wall charger while turned on. even if it has 80% left. i am to afraid that my battery level goes under 20% (i heard that falling under that level can damage batteries).

Where did you hear that? Mines dropped to 14% before and I then turned it off and charged it and the battery still seems fine. Wasn't aware you could damage the battery if it got too low...
I killed my battery first 2 charges - never have in the past but thought I would this time
I have always charged with the phone on, all my phones since way back having an analogue Nokia mobile and never had any battery issues. Only time I have ever switched my phones off is if I was getting on a plane or the battery got really low and didn't want it to go completely flat.
Just plug it in whenever. Modern li-poly batteries doesn't have memory and charge cycle life is based on full charges.
Part charges actually increase life due to low % cycling

Agreed.
One thing to note is that you should never let it completely drain the battery, the phone will switch itself off once the battery reaches critical level then it needs a charge. I'd recommend charging it when it reaches 5-15%.
Also I'd never leave it charging over night it interrupts the cycle, if I have to charge it over night I set an alarm to go of after a few hours and unplug it.
i have 3 or 4 charges from different makes-and only htc charges the quickest. the worst is usb cable and car charger. but due to usage i need to charge twice a day

Dude...
I always charge overnight - purely for convenience really.
Can you explain the above to me? I'm not sure what you mean by it interupts the cycle?
How does it effect the battery ?
Thanks alot

You are 100% right most modern phone battery’s don’t have memory any more so no need to worry about it, and no need to do full discharge and recharge cycles to maintain battery health, and if they do they normally tell you in warning labels or in instruction manuals, for example I recently bought a new shaver and it tells you to do a full discharge and then leave it on charge for at least 12 hours every 3 months to maintain battery life.

batteries have safety features built in so don't worry. What for you looks like 0-1% left - what android is showing you, might be actually 10-20% as seen internally by the battery.
Also, I have completely discharged my phone once, I simply left it at 1% and waited until it shut off. Then I charged to 100%. From then on, I charge whenever I want, phone is always ON.
Ebay 2m cable (the HTC one's length is a joke).
I use a charging cable.
My friend sticks it next to his head and uses his brainwaves to charge it.
Both seem to work fine.
Im really sorry for this post. I could not resist.
You guys are ridiculous. Just plug the phone in and it charges.

Is my replacement battery defective?

I got a second battery off ebay for emergency situations. It's advertised as OEM. While the phone is plugged in it charges up to 88% then starts bleeding charge. Unplug and replug makes it charge again. Bad battery right?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/120986142293?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I got a new battery from eBay just the other day too, and the first time I used it, it didn't seem to charge properly at all. I left it in the phone and drained it down to 1%, then charged it again. This charge seemed to take forever, but after it was at 100%, all seemed fine. Now it charges at normal speed again, and doesn't seem to drain any faster than my stock battery. Hopefully this works for you too

This is driving me mad, no more super fast charging?

I charged phone previously and after 70 mins, it was fully charged. Today, left it in to charge and returned after 80 minutes expecting it to be 100% as usual.
But now it was as in the image. What is going on?
And yes, obviously, this IS the factory charger.
Very odd. 13 minutes later, charger is very hot... And not it jumped from 44% to 70%.
But the estimate is still 37 minutes, which seem to be very long time.
I thought the super fast charger is the 45w charger that you need to buy separately?
No, I meant then fast charger, the 25W provided with the phone one.

The charger is receiving an improper voltage from the outlet, either that or it's not plugged in all the way.
I plugged in my Note last night and it started heating unusually, same for the wall charger. Come to find out the wall charger came loose and was halfway into the wall so it was giving an improper charge and making both the phone and the charger heat up. It was reading "fast charging" but not putting the regular ETA of around 50 minutes that it usually takes.
I put the charger in a much better placed outlet and made sure it was in all the way and the problem went away.
This might be the case. I heard the charger or the socket making funny noises so I reconnected it and it went to normal.
I was wondering these days about it and I think the estimated time was wrong... Today I tested it having 80% battery with the original 25W adapter and the out-of-box cable, it took about 15min to reach 100%, but until the 90% mark, the AOD indicates 33min to 100% and it jumped after to 22min and 8min when 97%...
So, IMHO, the problem in with the charge time estimate...

Check that outlet! Sounds like a neutral/ground fault!
Ground wire is acting the neutral return.
All the fast chargers slow down when they reach about 90% charging to keep safe the battery. In any brand of phone.
