Which is the best dark substratum theme that is working flawlessly with OnePlus 3 ?
I have tried both Inversion UI and Swift Black, but both has some of the following shortcomings.
Dialer menu has white on white ; Whatsapp settings - grey on black , Keep - create new label, settings and Help & Feedback black on black; Contacts (this is the worst) - ineligible while menu has white on white; hangout - select options - white on white
You can use swift black substratum with themable gapps ( dialer , contacts )
idk for whatsapp everu substratum is ugly btw swift black and domination is the only thing i found which working systemui and framework
For keep i used domination
Dont use anything for settings
Hangout swift black

Hi HIshan ,
I also tried swift black also. Most of the issues noted in my post also persists with swift black. I am not sure if it's because i applied it over Inversion UI before restoring system default. Also messenger was better on Inversion - Swift black has a gray background instead of black.

Compatible with OSS 4.1.1
Hi guys, any of these themes are compatible with OSS 4.1.1 ??
For best Dark Colored theme, i use the combination of :
1) CoalField Substratum Theme, PAID (For Beautiful Unique system ICONs)
2) Swift Dark Substratum theme, PAID (For Dark 3rd party Apps like Instagram, Tumblr, Facebook, GMAIL, YouTube, etc
3) DNA Project, FREE (This is my MAIN theme that i use to themed everything for my device except for 3rd Party apps, the only 3rd party app i use is TWITTER to make it awesome looking RED Twitter instead of Blue. This theme have 2 color, RED (infected) & BLUE (DNA Default)
& here's my few screenshots for my daily theme
Well, I split dark themes into two categories: dark themes, and black themes. Black (real black and not dark) themes are really good for AMOLED display.
And for the ones I have tested, I go with Domination.
Am using Black Swift Substratum theme
Did anyone have a problem with Whatsapp after updating whatsapp? i have to factory reset phone to get it back working again?
do you guys have any solution? or should i never update whatsapp and other app's?
Hi,
Just a thread to agregate all the infos about compatibilities
I'll keep this first post updated if you give me informations.
Additionnal information :
OMS Support for LOS
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/substratum/reference-lineageos-substratum-support-t3580276
Free themes :
ModernUI : not bad, but black on black on the ambient display (when screen is all B&W). Except that, I love the look.
Inversion UI : not bad, but black on black on the ambient display (when screen is all B&W). Same in the Phone and contact app.
Greyce : No problem with it, but doesn't theme a lot of things. Just have some Grey on white menus on olds app I have. I'll stick on this one for a minimal black UI theming.
Update 8th feb : Contact and Phone is themed (keeping some white areas, but OK for me)
S.i.X themes : I tried even if not supported except Pure Nexus and S.i.X roms. Bootloop...
Paid themes :
I plan to test some of them and report here, starting with the ones compatible with 7.1.1.
Swift black : Reported as really good by @Exodusche . A lot of apps themed
Domination : Reported as really good by @Exodusche . Fewer apps themed, but accent colors
LoNe 4SuBs : seems to require OMS support. Waiting for the dev answer to see if it worth to be tested
Thanks for sharing your views on it if you already tried some of them.

There is no choice I think. Or the ambient display can't show the texts or titles (black on black), or the notification stays white...
Do you have problems on contacts, phone, inbox or Gmail app? All blacked themed with swift?
Swift Black is incredible always being updated and has options for every ROM type also Domination both have never let me down usually ROM issue if so both apply pure black Domination has accent choices where swift does not but themes more like calendar and G maps etc

Not really. Some are trying to extend that :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lineage/general/progress-support-oms-t3546841
But some themes devs make them compatible with it.
Ex from the swift black description :
Boost your stock rooted ROM with this pitch black theme for the Substratum theme engine. It fully supports Android 6, 7.0 and 7.1 / Google Pixel / OxygenOS 4 / LineageOS / OMS + it works without TBO Theme ready gapps! Please read the description below before using the theme.

Settings are black with Blue neon accent.
Google is themed
For example, Inbox : open the app, the message list is all black. When you open one, all the top is black but the message is on a white zone.

Long pressing power button soft reboots. Also disabling the USB debugging allows it to boot, else just reboots & sticks on boot screen. Any recommendation?

Hi guys,
I've been using the AOSPUI black theme on my Nexus 6P and it worked fine on Nougat.
I now have a Pixel 2 XL on stock rooted Oreo 8.1. The same theme behaves in a weird way and some pop-up windows and the power menu have black on black text. I reached out to the dev and he says it should work properly but I can't seem to be able to make it work.
Now I'm looking for another black theme that works flawlessly on stock rooted. Found a few but need some advice, so would you get:
- Swift black,
- Pi Dark,
- Flux,
- something else?
I need a black theme where EVERYTHING works. Free themes are also welcome.
Thanks!

Swift Black works for me very well. But the first time you install a theme, you can run into weird problems because the theme hasn't been updated for the newest version of the Google apps yet.
When I did a clean install last week, Swift Black wouldn't theme my Google app. An update a few days later fixed this.
So I disable automatic updates and wait for a Swift Black update after the apps which I have themed are updated. This way it alsways works with Swift Black.
But to theme GBoard, you need to read the FAQ (some manual steps are required).
Hope that helps.

Domination is another outstanding black theme that gets updated regularly. Also, keep in mind that it's ok to use overlays from different themes on certain apps while your waiting for theme updates should your base theme not work on a particular app :good:
Swift black FTW

I use Swift Black for system UI and settings, Compound for phone. Swift Black leaves a huge blue frame on the dialer UI for me. Looks horrid.

Like I said above, the only overlay that gives me trouble is the "Android system" one. If I activate it (black with Pixel accent colors), my pop-up windows are black on black and my power menu blue on blue, i.e. I can't see any text. It's odd, it worked well on Nougat.
Edit: I wonder if it's the automatic (and stupid) day/night mode from Oreo that's being a PITA? Because my current wallpaper is dark and it triggers the dark mode for some stuff. Why did Google add this and not a toggle to enable/disable it?!

I think the only elements that are affected by the wallpaper theme (auto dark/light mode) are quick settings and notification bar.

It also themes the power menu, which is one of the areas that don't get themed properly. I also switched to a light wallpaper and all my QS were gone (probably black on black again)! Something is definitely fishy on Oreo :/

I don't have the issue you describe using Swift Black for system.
Same here, I'm 100% stock using swift black and couldn't be happier. No issues at all.
I'm guessing Swift Black is the winner here!
About the power menu, it's actually the advanced power menu that isn't themed properly (the one added by Gravity Box through Xposed). And also random pop-up windows like when I'm connecting a Bluetooth device.
I use Spectrum as my main theme. Domination is my second theme and is used to theme apps that Spectrum doesn't, such as XDA Labs. It also is used for the Google apps when Spectrum can't theme the app, though that can be hit or miss. For example, Photos cannot be changed to black by either theme at the moment.
Google seems to update their apps every other day, which gives the themers headaches. Of course, in Android P it may all end up being moot.
PitchBlack is my go theme... Updates regularly and plenty options..

Are you creating the modules then rebooting before applying? Since March update that's what you need to do. The modules will show up after rebooting.

I'm creating the overlays using the "build & update" option then rebooting and applying them. If you don't reboot, they don't show up in the Substratum manager.
Right now, I'm waiting to get a payment from Rewards so I can buy one theme or two. We'll see.

I would delete the overlays before rebuilding them.
On my Pixel 2 XL stock (Not Rooted) I still have to Build/Enable and then reboot and enable again. Does anyone else have this issue? I should not need to "Enable" overlays twice.

Black EMUI 9 themes on Huawei Mediapad M5 10.8
Hi Guys and Gals
I've made some tests with offered EMUI 9 themes by Themes Manager. There are a lot of dark themes which are suitable for our Mediapad. I found best solutions with Deep+Black-1.9-NL.hwt and Evanescence-v.4.NL.hwt both developed by XDA Recognized Themer maurydes.
Unfortunately there are some problems especially with Settings and Contacts. There is an ugly white background behind Settings caption. The subheadings on Contacts changing from good looking in portrait mode to bad looking form in landscape mode.
Chris
Dark theme
I have long searched for a theme with a dark background in settings, contacts and other Huawei programs for my Huawei Mediapad M5 10.8 with EMUI 9.1. With the large number of themes tested, problems typically arise when displaying texts or symbols in various fields of the respective programs. Either there is light text on a light background or dark text on a dark background, so that in extreme cases there is no legibility. The best results in my tests were Evanescence-v.4.1-Full-9.1 (although I don't like the icons - OK, you can change them).
However, there are still some rough edges.
As with many other themes, the narrow gray delimiters between the groups of contacts when changing to landscape mode mutate into wide white stripes in which the letters visually disappear. Well then you have to use the contacts program and only in portrait mode.
In the themes program, individual symbols disappear in the same color background - e.g. the trash icons for deleting themes.
So far I have not found any serious problems in the settings. If you disregard the fact that the switch in the settings is not easy to recognize and that you cannot recognize the trash can in the themes program here either.
Enjoy !

Mediapad M5 Themes
When a service was carried out by a authorized workshop (the well-known USB-C wobbler), a 'proper' Themes app was also installed on my media pad (CMR-AL09), in which, in addition to the few pre-installed ones, some new themes appeared in the store. These are all 'real' Themes for the media pad with a large screen and landscape and portrait view. Among other things, can be seen from the thumbnails in the topics. Themes for phones include no preview images for landscape mode and therefore cannot be displayed in landscape mode in the Themes app. The Magazine Unlock Method is also defined in some of these Themes, and I had no idea how it worked before.
Theme files with the ending .hwt are actually zip files with picture elements - called drawable - and xml files, in which the modifications are described. These are evaluated by the EMUI system for EMUI's own elements. The individual files such as com.example.android.notepad are also zip files that in turn contain drawables and xml files. They are evaluated by framework-res for general Android apps or its extension by Huawei framework-res-hwext for Android and EMUI apps. The file com.example.android.notepad is therefore responsible for the Huawei App Notepad.
A lack of all offered Mediapad Themes is, however, that no apps change their appearance. For example, no dark Themes for settings, contacts etc. are realized
I have modified one of the offered Mediapad Themes. I have inserted the program components for modifying various apps from other Themes that are actually intended for phones. I have among other things uses the themes Evanescence Full (LCD) .hwt, Nightlike.hwt and Skyline.hwt from the range of the Themes Manager app from the Google Play Store. I've also experimented a little with a few different lock screen solutions. E.g. a dynamic lock scene realized with the help of the ZookingSoft Theme Engine.
Sounds like you've done a good job creating a theme that best imitates dark mode for use on the mediatab. You should upload your theme for us to download and use?
Puzzles me why Huawei would remove a feature that's already built into android 9, overall I am not keen on their take on android in general - it seems a bit butchered.
used to be able to do this a few android versions ago with substratum. there was a theme called aosp dark which was great. I find the stock instagram dark mode hard on the eyes it's so black. i've trawled around looking at current substratum themes but nothing so far. my p6p is rooted.
Check out this post
Substratum + Swift Dark Theme (same colour as other Google apps when using dark mode). See screenshot.
I use this to theme Whatsapp, Instagram, Twitter, Google Files app ... now at least 95% of my apps have the same 'dark' colour and are 'consistent' in terms of UI color.
I have also set debug.hwui.force_dark=true at boot time to turn a few light apps into dark.
Only exception is strava ... white is king for strava.
